@JaxonH I'm very sorry Jaxon, but are people seriously not allowed to complain about a bad product? Am I seeing you say that correctly here?
Or are you trying to invalidate the majority of Steam reviews, by quite frankly being a D?
WOE BE ON THE PEOPLE WHO DARE EXPECT SOMETHING FOR THEIR 15 EUROS! Jaxon, please.......
As for the rest of this article's comments, it's good to see that "It's not my system's version that has issues, so it's all good" mentality going strong. Ah well, fie on me for expecting better
@Paraka For the creative fans, great. But I'm someone who would rather build a huge castle and know it'll be tested against attacks, than just build a huge castle for the sake of it.
Massively enjoyed the story in the first one, felt completely aimless once done and entering Terra Incognita, built something and just stopped, the drive was gone for me. But MP will bring that drive back, now to hope that it's online MP and not just local.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE How do you mean? Unlike Zelda: BotW, Odyssey wasn't targeted for Wii-U first, and unlike Xenoblade Chronicles 2, it isn't made on just an upgraded XCX engine.
@electrolite77 Majority rules, I get it. Just recognize that the docked can use a serious amount of work and loving, and that there isn't equilibrium in the Switch as a handheld, which bothers me as user of the underdog mod.
@SonOfVon And it'd be a handheld only title for touch-screen since stick controls wouldn't work well at all. Sure go for it, it just emphasizes my point that the Switch is all about handheld anyway
@RunninBlue I've never heard of that one before, but as I said to Son above, it's probably due to touch-screen and probably a once in a go thing. DS had a Settlers game, but there was never a follow-up. Some genres just work better on PC/are exclusive to it, and games like RTS and I believe CIV is there as well, are among those.
@JaxonH Look, all of the above I can live with, if it was a separate device. The fact that it isn't is what makes this the way it is. I have a 3DS, I have followed it's line since Gameboy, and it does what I'd want out of a handheld.
If Nintendo was still making home-consoles as well, I'd never have even brought up this topic. Because now, we have a handheld dictating everything home-console as well, and that's where I go "Hold up, that's not good" as that means that all those accepting portable quality also dictate that those that play it docked have to as well, and I don't know about you, but that isn't fair to me.
@JaxonH I'd have no problem with people buying what they want, if it weren't that we'd both be using the same device for different purposes.
I've explained my stance on this plenty of times, and I remain adamant that hybrid in it's current form is not the right way forward.
And on a side note, I see people clamouring for unreasonable games these days, on account of DOOM running on Switch. All for portability. I just get so sick of that entitlement that it brings that it makes me want to vomit. Give people one taste of games everywhere, and they want everything that way, soon enough game experiences will be downgraded to fit on Switch, and prioritized that way. Well excuse me, but I'd rather we still get good game experiences, and not having everything cast aside for portability's sake.
But at the end of the day, I'm a minority and the majority just wants their convenience. Fair enough, I'll just watch the boulder roll down the hill.
Does this need to be equal to other versions of the game? Switch owners will buy it anyway, because portability warrants any game, regardless of state and how good it is.
@electrolite77 Well, if home-console falls out of favour due to people's busy lives demanding they move around all the time, then I can see it disappearing.
And this 100% guarantees that they'll never invest in improving it, which is a crying damn shame.
@electrolite77 You're being a bit of a derp there mate, dissecting my post, and then putting pieces apart, that actually directly relate to one another.
"Your entire post is baseless conjecture but this bit especially. Nintendo's survey suggests 70% of users utilise the dock. Why would Nintendo cut them off? They don't have to develop specifically for it, I'm pretty sure selling extra docks is very profitable due to a high mark-up, they don't even have to update it. Money talks, and while the dock is helping Switch sell there's absolutely no reason for it to go anywhere."
I said, when those that used it mostly as double, MOVE ELSEWHERE, which also ties into this comment of yours.
"Or because they use it in both modes. Like the surveys say"
If those people, like with the Wii, move on to something else (and as with the Wii, there's a good chance of this) Then the Switch will be a handheld before you can take your words back. It already is severely biased towards handheld, since that's what it sells the most on, and that's what people happily defend when it comes to quality. Suggest a purely docked game for performance's sake, and watch the pathetic fools leap at your throat with "but I won't be able to play it everywhere!" or "That goes against the Switch's message and what it was meant for!" so what was it meant for? Oh right, games on the go, with an optional side mode that some, if not many HAVEN'T EVEN REMOVED FROM THE PLASTIC. That's it's defining feature, what truly matters. It's never "I want it for docked" It's "I want it because it can do both" or "I want it because it can do handheld". If that inspires hybrid confidence to you, then I've but one thing to call you: Naive.
The only thing baseless, is to think the Switch will remain a "hybrid".
@GrailUK How quaint, you just wait until that day arrives that you go out to buy Nintendo's next system, and it's a pure handheld with nothing else to it, and no home-console to buy.
@Hikingguy Well, look around at sites like these, around the internet, hell even Nintendo's commercials and what they say, and what kind of image does that sketch for you? I'm very much in your boat in terms of Switch use, but it hasn't passed me by how people are all over it for portability's sake, or because of convenience, which is both modes, but the main reason is still portability, as since without that they wouldn't care overall.
@Hikingguy "Not like the game won't be available for years and years after release." Ironic, isn't it?
People pay 55/60 euros for a AAA, pay more over-time for the DLC, probably end up paying 100 if not more, and others pay a 5er for it on a Steam sale a few years down the line, and yet if everyone were to wait for such sales, the industry would collapse and cease to exist.
@KryptoKrunch @GrailUK @electrolite77 I'll leave you all with a thought.
Those people, from Nintendo's survey that use both modes, are the only thing keeping their, heh, if you can even call it that, foray into the home-console market alive. If they should for any reason move on, then Nintendo will only have handhelds.
Many are the games that are brought to Switch on account of portability, none are the reasons why it's brought for docked. It's merely there to sucker people in. Those that buy a Switch for docked mode, do so because they have no choice when it comes to Nintendo's IP, and those people are but a minority that don't matter in the face of money.
Dock's days are numbered, it's a matter of waiting until it disappears, and then we'll no longer have a choice.
@Ryu_Niiyama And equally do Switch gamers clamour for the impossible, and wield eyecaps like they're glasses, demanding everything on account of some games being possible (DOOM).
This knife cuts both ways.
@Agramonte "That it is "portable" is irrelevant - that just means I won't want to play it at home or on the train. No idea how that makes it "better"
And 3rd party are not stupid. If they see they can just cash in by dumping $50 old games on the Switch that is exactly what they will do."
And yet people herald these prices with open arms, and ignore anything wrong on the very account of that portability. It will only get worse from here on out, as the majority of Switch owners have proven not to care.
As @KryptoKrunch proves, portability is the sole factor of purchase for many of these: "are willing to double dip for the portability." And people fault me for seeing the Switch as only a handheld. The delusion is with those who don't.
Well, to each their own I guess. As a PC player in regards to shooters, this is a 100% skip for me anyway, and I don't agree on the Switch tax in regards to old ports, which this game most certainly qualifies for.
But eh, I'm just one person. It'll sell on account of "Muh portability" as always /shrug.
@GrailUK And thus people are not allowed to check it out first? To see if it's worth their time? As a wise man once said, if your entire game can be watched, and not invite someone to try it for themselves, it's probably not a good game.
You sound incredibly corporate there. "Don't you DARE check out if you'd want this game! Just slap down the money and buy buy buy!"
@ThanosReXXX Aye, that I do. That boulders' gone rolling for too long to stop now.
I just hope that Nintendo's overall offer is worth it. Now this is just my thinking, but I'd rather have the option to just pay for solely online.
EDIT: As for the up to snuff part, doesn't PSN and Xbox Live have their fair share of usual issues, and yet people pay for that, and even say it's great anyway? I'm sure Nintendo can mess around quite a bit with no whining here
@johnvboy But even here, power is still a subject matter. Games that really push the PS4/Xbox One, cannot feasibly be put on Switch without such severe downgrades, to the point, that, it's probably not even worth it.
The above, is what I feel, many Switch owners just love to overlook. "Just port it, just give me this game, where the hell is this game? Do you hate money?!" Without ever thinking about implications.
@johnvboy Sure, and in many cases, the handheld version looks great, I'll admit that. But that doesn't mean we should ignore how it looks docked.
True, it isn't the only thing that matters, but it's a huge part of games, regardless of HOW MUCH power we're talking about. Just pushing power won't do much, but being behind the curve will just make third-parties less likely, if not far less likely to port games, since it takes them all the more effort cross the hardware gap between A and B.
@johnvboy The Switch is already a huge success, why are you bringing that up? Also, I've seen this comment so many times, I'd be a billionaire if it got me money whenever I read it "If you or other people want cutting edge graphic triple AAA titles you are better off with an Xbox or a Ps4."
Nintendo IP, sir. Where do you find it, other than Nintendo hardware? Exactly.
@johnvboy I do realize that, but I see this cramped mentality among Nintendo fans of slamming down on wanting good performance and graphics, which I find asinine. How are games going to improve with that silly attitude?
"Nintendo do not need third party support to be a success." I need a facepalm picture for this. On second thought, make that 2.
"You again have to consider the switch's more mainstream audience, who couldn't care less if a game was running in 4k HDR and 60fps." You say that, as if 60 FPS is a bad thing.
Depending on the genre, it can be a deal breaker. For example, a streamer I frequently watch was absolutely psyched for Dark Souls Remake on Switch, until he heard it was 30 FPS, and so you've got many cases to make for Fighters, but less so for turn-based strategy.
This has nothing to do with "Mainstream audience".
"And on the whole a big percentage of the hardcore market couldn't care less too....it's only the very niche tech head people who post on forums that seem to think this is very important." So basically you're horribly biased, and wouldn't give people who want a good experience the light of day. May your games be buggy, your FPS dropping like bricks and your graphics look like Enclave: Shadows of Twilight on Wii.
@beazlen1 I've tried Splatoon 1, and I didn't enjoy it. Gyro-controls are nice, but not something for excessive use, more something to mess around with when the mood hat flies south in games like BotW.
@NinNin That is fair, I suppose it's too much to ask Nintendo to put their backs into both sides equally.
@electrolite77 "It sells to Nintendo fans because it's where Nintendo's games are and will be in the future" Like they ever have a choice. Those are fair points.
@electrolite77 That it is, portability is a strong reason for selling, but is that the main reason? What of exclusives? And are people really content with this? When I see the Switch, I see handheld brought to the next level, but when I look at the hybrid picture, I see a lacking side that could be so much more.
It is possible to make that more, is it wrong to hope for as much?
@electrolite77 True, but like a friend of mine said on Discord, in regards to DOOM on Switch "so it looks little bit better at handheld mode but probably has more fps issues "We can't stress enough how impressive this looks as a mobile shooter " and that is again big problem with switch games are good for handheld but not for home console"
Sure, portability is the main feature as that what sells it, but is it wrong to want more from docked?
@electrolite77 I've explained you that many a times, but if anything it's because there should be more to Switch than that, but I can't fault people for not talking about the other part, since it isn't anything worth mentioning, which then leads me to wonder: Why does it even exist?

I might try Metroid Prime, but since there's no mouse, I'll probably stick with PC for shooters.
Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes on Bayonetta 2 on Switch Compared to Wii U
@NinNin That is fair, I suppose it's too much to ask Nintendo to put their backs into both sides equally.
@electrolite77 "It sells to Nintendo fans because it's where Nintendo's games are and will be in the future" Like they ever have a choice. Those are fair points.
Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes on Bayonetta 2 on Switch Compared to Wii U
@electrolite77 That it is, portability is a strong reason for selling, but is that the main reason? What of exclusives? And are people really content with this? When I see the Switch, I see handheld brought to the next level, but when I look at the hybrid picture, I see a lacking side that could be so much more.
It is possible to make that more, is it wrong to hope for as much?
Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes on Bayonetta 2 on Switch Compared to Wii U
@electrolite77 True, but like a friend of mine said on Discord, in regards to DOOM on Switch "so it looks little bit better at handheld mode but probably has more fps issues "We can't stress enough how impressive this looks as a mobile shooter " and that is again big problem with switch games are good for handheld but not for home console"
Sure, portability is the main feature as that what sells it, but is it wrong to want more from docked?
Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes on Bayonetta 2 on Switch Compared to Wii U
@electrolite77 I've explained you that many a times, but if anything it's because there should be more to Switch than that, but I can't fault people for not talking about the other part, since it isn't anything worth mentioning, which then leads me to wonder: Why does it even exist?
