Re: Pokémon Boss Didn't Think Switch Would Be A Success In The Age Of The Smartphone

MFD

I'm an old man, so my phone is for calling, texting, and a bit of YouTube before going to sleep, and that's it. I'll always use a 3DS or something similar for handheld gaming, something with the games and dedication to play it properly, without suddenly leaving me without battery to call/text.

But sure, Ishihara, let's hope the Switch fails by what you'd have loved to see. Then what will you do? Make your game for 3DS again, that's on the way out? Wholly embrace mobile?

And what does he even mean by "wider audience"? The Switch has far more reach then any other home-console as is, what wider audience do you speak of? The mole people?

Re: Feature: The Switch Report - Six Months of Nintendo's Hybrid System

MFD

@JaxonH "And will continue to be. Nintendo made a hybrid console, not a power console clone. It has and always will play second fiddle with regard to 3rd party games (even if it wasn't a hybrid, it'd be the same story)" Third-parties can do well on Nintendo systems, as they're reporting pretty good sales so far, Rabbids, from what I've seen, is making a blast, and in the end, that's a third-party game, even if it has Mario in it.

I'm a home-console player, but I'm not blind. Handheld offers access to a market closed to PS4/Xbox One, make no mistake about it. The Switch will probably have less people like myself, that use it as a pure home-console, but have people in addition that buy it for the handheld part.

Nintendo are doing a damn fine job of supporting the system, and if third-parties can find ways to utilize the hardware for games like Rabbids, then I do not see why they can't have a good relationship. Sure, the multiplats won't be there, but if we get other games in their stead, that will probably run better and play just as well, then I'll be all aboard.

@CrazedCavalier Do let me jump in your boat and sail along with you, since I share that sentiment whole-heartedly. It'll be like FE: Fates' Camilla all over again. They won't remember anything of Pyra other than her form, and how her physique stands out (It's funny, considering what the artist drew and in which vein he probably drew her)

Re: Some Retail Nintendo Switch Games Will Require You To Own A MicroSD Card

MFD

@Switch99 Well, we both have a permanent problem saddled up on (probably) the inside, and I reckon we both use games for the same purpose: To stay entertained while dealing with said problem and all the others that come around. At least the Switch is a system that gives us both what we seek, more or less (I'd rather have had a stronger system, if only to alleviate some of that third-party whining, god does that grate my nerves)

Re: Some Retail Nintendo Switch Games Will Require You To Own A MicroSD Card

MFD

@janfritz I'd be inclined to agree, if the Switch's internal storage weren't extremely small, and the purchase of a home-console (since that's what Nintendo markets it as) cuts into one's budget. Then factor in games + pro-controller and you're 400-500 (euros in my case) in already.

I'll keep digital purchase at an arms-length, preferably for as long as possible, because even if we're going digital, Nintendo didn't bother to give the Switch some proper internal memory, and as such, I won't bother to pay extra just to fix that.

Re: Some Retail Nintendo Switch Games Will Require You To Own A MicroSD Card

MFD

@SanderEvers Is it really that back-breaking to pick out a card (which is easy to do) and put in the box, then put in another one? I'd much rather do that, and not have my Switch clogged up right away. Games get updates, and patches, and all kinds of crap down the road, it'll be filled soon enough, even if you've got all physical, so I'll maintain it as long as I can.

Re: Switch Sales Fall Dramatically In Japan, But Splatoon 2 Passes The One Million Marker

MFD

@Aaron09 Possibly aye. And yes, it is business, but consumers don't just buy that way, they also buy with their emotion/heart, otherwise boycotts would never exist, and people would never get annoyed over exclusives, timed or otherwise.

Let's take Capcom and MH, I've been playing MH since I picked it up on my Wii, and part of me is happy Capcom wants to advance the franchise, but part of me is also dismayed that the Western Nintendo owners will not be getting any game (so far known). So the people that have seen a clear line, see a sudden cut that one couldn't have predicted. There are people out there that have bought a Switch for MH, relishing the opportunity to play home-console again, while Japan keeps their all important handheld, or heck, just play handheld on a far better screen/controls.

The whole ordeal has made me far more hesitant towards Capcom has a whole.

Re: Ubisoft Will Announce More Nintendo Switch Titles "Quite Soon"

MFD

@GimpySpaceman Yet historically, third-parties have seen poor, if not, at least, sub-par sales on Nintendo platforms (Switch seems to change this, but it's still a young system). Why else do you think they're so hesitant, water-testing (A lot of publishers) and even DOUBLE water-testing! (Capcom)

Power is a part of some games: http://nintendoeverything.com/developer-a-plague-tale-innocence-not-coming-to-switch-because-of-the-systems-lack-of-power/ but power is irrelevant in the face the developer wanting to put it on or not, thinking it'll sell or not etc. The prime issue here, is that they don't bother explaining us consumers why decisions are made, except in some rare circumstances like the above article. Anyone that has the guts to properly explain their decision, even if it's negative, has my respect.

Re: Secret Of Mana Is Getting A 3D Remake, But Guess What Console It's Not Coming To

MFD

@JaxonH Agreed on the turn-off part, but what can one do? It'd need a serious out-cry to have a publisher give anything more than a hearty laugh. And I do think you've a point in regards to thinking the Sony might be up to something, but if they are, they're doing it sneaky, and so we'll never know for sure.

Only thing one can hope, is that Nintendo fights fire with fire, but I doubt they'll do that honestly (unless paying for exclusives fits this, which I can see them do)

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Compares Monster Hunter XX on Switch and 3DS

MFD

@JaxonH I'll stick with waiting, or hoping the Dauntless developers come through where Capcom is being a D.

Far too much effort for my tastes to play XX when Capcom doesn't even bring it West as is. I'll probably base on whether I'll continue to play MH on MHW, when it eventually makes it's way over to PC, as I doubt they'll bother localizing any other MH if that one does well.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Compares Monster Hunter XX on Switch and 3DS

MFD

@JaxonH Personally I am convinced that this game will never reach the West now. First off, if it does get localised, will it come with the 3DS version? As there is then to consider that the small base it'll have in the West, will be split between those 2.

Then, if it doesn't come with the 3DS version, the Switch version will have been adjusted (longer loading times etc) for cross-play with a game that isn't coming.

I see too many risks for Capcom to care about localising this.

Re: FIFA 18 Sales Are Important for Future EA Support of Nintendo Switch

MFD

@Kirgo I very well may be overestimating it, I don't know jack about FIFA

But that's a personal perspective to take, and the question is, how many people really care about the missing mode vs portability?

The fact remains, however, that EA is banking on the Switch to truly sell the game vs other versions, which I find rather lazy on the developers front. That said, it's great that the Switch has an edge in this alone, and a regular handheld that couldn't dock wouldn't have this power, so 1-Up for Switch.

Re: FIFA 18 Sales Are Important for Future EA Support of Nintendo Switch

MFD

@Kirgo Look at this from a objective stand point for a moment: On one hand, we have FIFA for other consoles, being fully-fledged with all the modes. On the other hand, we have FIFA Switch, with that story mode missing, and having only the console's inherent portability as real difference.

EA is basically banking on the Switch itself to sell this.

Re: FIFA 18 Sales Are Important for Future EA Support of Nintendo Switch

MFD

@InternetBowser Soccer in general is lost on me, though I get what you're saying. I suppose a lot of third-parties reason that "Portability is your extra feature!" which is quite lazy considering it comes inherent to the damn console...

That and as a home-console only Switch user, it is equally lost on me
