Re: Review: Fire Emblem Warriors (Switch)

MFD

@Browny The irony in your words, when combined with your avatar. Waifu has been in FE since the beginning, it's just become more pronounced. This whole "fan war between old and new" is absolutely ridiculous.

Re: Sony is Publishing an Indie Title, Tiny Metal, on the Switch

MFD

@FragRed You say fanboy, but gaming, as many have said many times, is an expensive hobby. You'd be getting games for 2 consoles, the accessories, pay the monthly online fee and so forth. I can manage a PC and a Switch, but the PC is definitely suffering for the Switch right now (needs upgrades).

Re: Video: See the True Grunt of the Switch with Fire Emblem Warriors & Hyrule Warriors Compared

MFD

I, for one, just want to enjoy FE: Warriors without letting the whole "It's missing these old characters, it's not a true FE homage!!" taint my view. After tangling with a particularly tenacious case from the old fanbase, I would love to actually play this one.

@JaxonH The contribution if something looking good, compared to it looking, say blobby because the textures don't work properly is undeniable. That said, in my book, great graphics can't solve crap gameplay, whereas the other-way around is possible (hence why some of these really old games still hold up today)

Re: Here Are the Key Lessons that Nintendo Learned from the Wii U

MFD

@electrolite77 Sure, I can see that. But it also has to remain profitable in the long term. Firing off all one's ammunition is bound to have effect, but you'll be out of ammo afterwards as well!

@MsgBoardGamer I've said why they need third-party aid, if only to let their own devs catch their breath in-between releases and to preserve the quality of their games. They've done it with Mario + Rabbids and I can see them do it again. (give the spotlight to a third-party in the same way)

Re: Here Are the Key Lessons that Nintendo Learned from the Wii U

MFD

@MsgBoardGamer "Most gamers who have or want the Switch don't care about third-parties." This will not pay Nintendo dividends if true.

Nintendo has great IP, but it is finite. What other choice do they have, but to eventually crank out their IP, most likely crunching developers and causing the games to lose in quality, or to face droughts yet again ala Wii-U?

@electrolite77 The same as what I said above to Msg, but I'd like to ask you something in addition. What if the portability the Switch offers, is no longer enough? Nintendo needs the aid of the third-parties, as explained above, so what more could they do to differentiate their offering?

Re: Here Are the Key Lessons that Nintendo Learned from the Wii U

MFD

@BlueOcean True, but I do believe the portable premise will keep selling third-parties games. Question is, will it be enough? And will this premise keep strong, in the face of experiences when docked, being less than other versions?

It's hard to say. I thought FIFA 18 would sell like absolute bonkers due to it's portability, until recently, when I saw the UK's sales chart come by, and FIFA 18 Switch was below even Xbox 360 and PS3, which baffled me. Is it brand loyalty? I don't get it.

At any rate, I think Nintendo will need more than "just" portability at some point.

Re: Here Are the Key Lessons that Nintendo Learned from the Wii U

MFD

@the8thark And yet these gritty games find their way into Switch as well, being the premise of playing it portably, something impossible until now.

In the end, no matter what console we own, we all play games, and most people don't have as much time to dedicate to them as they would like, something the Switch slots in perfectly. I doubt there's a game dev out there that wouldn't want their game to slot into the busy lives of someone who otherwise wouldn't bother.

Save for motion-controls and portability, why else would one get a Switch version over another? (I buy my games Switch over other versions, though I am not a good example in the slightest and don't even use the Joy-Cons nor the Switch's portability.)

Re: Here Are the Key Lessons that Nintendo Learned from the Wii U

MFD

@the8thark I'm not sure if they have much added content to be frank with you. It's usually the DLC's and (Which might be what you mean) added functionality in the likes of Xenoverse 2 and it's Joy-Con motion-controls.

Other than that, they sometimes even lose some functionality (FIFA 18).

I see people type that, if they want a portable version of a game, they'll see if it's on Switch, but otherwise, they'll go for their PS4/Xbox One, which does kind of disregard the ability for the Switch to go docked, doesn't it? But then, it doesn't compare to the others in that aspect, simply due to the difference in specs.

Re: Here Are the Key Lessons that Nintendo Learned from the Wii U

MFD

@the8thark I'm pretty sure most old ports on the Switch sell primarily off of it's portability right now.

@MegaVel91 Looks at Vel silly What's a Joy-Con? (That's how rarely I use mine, but when I do get local co-op opportunities, I'll slot them into that holder and just play that way.)

Re: Video: Digital Foundry on the 'Custom' Merits of FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch

MFD

@electrolite77 So, on a productive note, what's required here to smooth things out? Third-parties making better ports? Or people accepting that the Switch version is the same price, with portability being the enticing feature unless something special is added?

Portability is enough for a lot of people to live with the down-grades, but discussions like these will never change, unless Nintendo were to release a stronger Switch that blurs the line, if such a thing even comes to pass.

How much does co-op and local play slot into all this? How much does it even still hold, in today's online environment?

Re: Video: Digital Foundry on the 'Custom' Merits of FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch

MFD

@MsJubilee From what I gather, the price-tag is for functionality the console itself has. It's basically leaning 100% on the Switch's own function to sell, at least that's what I'm seeing here.

And I doubt this will be any different for any other third-party multiplat. Maybe they should give a discount for a version that can only play docked eh?

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch and Third-Parties - Let's Be Realistic

MFD

@rjejr I daresay that the Switch's third-party support is better than it has been in quite some time though, and I'm not even someone who plays these games portable! The more great games that otherwise would've been missed, due to whatever reason, the better it is for people that use their Switch home-console, as that's what they can get from the machine, as opposed to being handheld being the all-great definer here.

But to get back to the topic at hand, I don't have any expectations, so I'll be content with what comes my way and is a game I'd like

Re: Review: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (Switch)

MFD

@sillygostly Ah well fair enough, I just noticed there was a patch, had no idea what it was for.

@Agramonte I could've easily paid less than that on a Steam sale, but one must also consider how lively the community on Steam is, and in my case, I wanted to play with friends, which is also a fairly big factor. That, and Switch can definitely use the support.

Re: Review: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (Switch)

MFD

@Agramonte The significant amount of people in Japan seem to disagree, and I get a feeling that the West agrees on that part. The game runs well docked, I've no complaints about it, and I've been playing it near-non-stop for about 2 days now.

Re: Review: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (Switch)

MFD

Funnily enough, I've been playing it since the 20th now, my retailer has a tendency to ship early for some reason. Great game, and I was under the impression that it was region-locked servers, but it seems I was wrong, as I came across Japanese avatars to fight during missions.

Re: Doom Will Bring Hell to Switch This Holiday Season

MFD

@ValhallaOutcast Well, a PC does at least allow one to change their control scheme to their liking, whether that's a keyboard and mouse, a controller, a joy-stick, a racing wheel or what have you.

Some games just lend themselves better to some control schemes, not barring preference, of course. For example, I'd never play a fighter without a controller/fight-stick.

Re: Doom Will Bring Hell to Switch This Holiday Season

MFD

@timson72 Tried those. Doesn't compare to a mouse for me. Nicely requesting you to respect my opinion and leave it.

Told you before that I've tried those and used them, among others, with Splatoon 1. It just doesn't work as well as a mouse, and so I will stick to a PC for my shooters. Again, I'd like you to respect my opinion on this, instead of trying to convince me of something I already know about and won't change my perspective on. I don't have the luxury to buy 60 euro games to "see if I like it" especially if I know I won't due to the controls.

Re: Doom Will Bring Hell to Switch This Holiday Season

MFD

@timson72 No, because I've got a disorder that reduces my reaction. A slower stick vs a faster mouse, which do you think will have me enjoy things the most? I've played shooters on console before, so this IS my own opinion, but it shows that you don't read all that much do you?

Let me cite where I've said this before, albeit not stipulating my disorder "I have a reaction-delay that makes traditional controls with a shooter hard for me to handle"

Re: Doom Will Bring Hell to Switch This Holiday Season

MFD

@timson72 @ValhallaOutcast Subjective lads, that's the key word here. I've stated my reasoning, and I'll stick with mouse and keyboard, I know others will do the same, and yet others don't care. Those who don't care, will buy DOOM on the Switch. Those who do, will stick to mouse and keyboard.

Re: Doom Will Bring Hell to Switch This Holiday Season

MFD

@JaxonH Motion controls are VERY subjective. I have a reaction-delay that makes traditional controls with a shooter hard for me to handle, and motion controls aren't my thing, tried those in Splatoon 1, not going there again. A mouse offers precision that nothing else has so far, that is my take on it. And I can see his point when he says that DOOM loses something if that precision is lost.

And yes, he didn't take that into account, because we don't even know if it's supported. People who buy DOOM on Switch, great, but those few of us that won't will not make a difference.

Re: Doom Will Bring Hell to Switch This Holiday Season

MFD

@JaxonH True as that may be, it's unwise to buy third-party games, just for the support of it. It also sends the wrong message to third-parties, as they use those sales to determine if there's a market for more of those likes, and yet part of those sales would be false in that regard.

Re: Doom Will Bring Hell to Switch This Holiday Season

MFD

@JaxonH Loyalty is meaningless in either context. It's expected of us, to show support, yet a company can do what they please. Quite the reverse world we live in.

At any rate, how else do you suggest people let Capcom know that, in the face of this good support from Bethesda, Capcom is looking really lacklustre? How else are people to prove their discontent over that Megaman Collection, the Disney Afternoon Collection, the XX non-localization and the skipping of Okami HD?

Re: Switch Continues to Lead in Japan as Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Makes Chart Debut

MFD

Peeps, just for the record: http://nintendoeverything.com/bandai-namco-says-dragon-ball-xenoverse-2-is-a-big-hit-on-switch-selling-out-in-japan/

"Yesterday, Bandai Namco published a tweet saying that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is a big hit on Switch. That was followed up by another message earlier today stating that there’s a bit of a shortage for the physical version. More shipments are planned towards the end of this month."

Looking forward to picking up my copy at the 22nd.

@retro_player_22 Well, do excuse me, because I skipped XV2 when it was on sale on PC to both support the Switch version, and play with friends on the Switch, which is also an important factor in my honest opinion.

I don't feel much hype for FighterZ, I'm content with XV2 as is.
