Anyone else notice that at no point in this review is the gameplay/object of the game explained? I read it all and I haven't a freakin' clue about the gameplay. The WiiU review does talk about it, but you could have at least said more about it in this review.
@TheWindWaker Don't believe everything you see on the internet? Since when is the internet used to disseminate inaccurate information? That's just crazy talk.
@Deanster101 I don't want to compare this to F-Zero because each game is brilliant in it's own way, but the highest speed class in Wipeout 64 is faster than F-Zero. Yeah, this game has some bad pop-up issues, but the control is excellent, the track designs are good, and it's too darn fast to even notice. lol
@BulbasaurusRex Bombed? It wasn't a huge success by any measure, but it did sell a million units. It made Sega some extra cash at the end of the Genesis' life cycle. I think that's all Sega expected to accomplish with it.
@unrandomsam Agreed. My TurboExpress' screen is still beautiful to this day! Back then it was truly amazing. I remember secretly watching TV on it in bed when I was supposed to be asleep. lol I think it was even more of a battery hog than the Nomad, believe it or not. The TV tuner also has a video input so you can do some interesting things with it, like hooking it to a VCR/DVD player or playing another game system on it's screen. lol Good times, good times.
Nintendo isn't a company that, for the most part, would support having a game on their systems that is supposedly degrading, etc... It stands to reason then, that Nintendo doesn't have any issues with this game, and neither do I.
@ToxieDogg @Kirk Well said.
@3MonthBeef I don't know, that screen looks an awful lot like my 3DS does when it's in power save mode. Also, the "official" pics of the screen in this article don't look the slightest bit off-white to me. Considering all of that, I'm not convinced that the new screen has lousy whites.
At least I hope it doesn't. All the other new features aren't enough incentive for me to settle for an inferior screen, and honestly the current screens are already not that great. Going from playing a Vita back to 3DS the difference is striking. Maybe that's an unfair comparison, but please Nintendo, don't take a step back to an even cheaper screen.
I will NEVER buy a digital version of any game if it's also available as physical retail. The only things I download are the eShop games that you can't get elsewhere. I think the whole digital download thing sucks for reasons that I'm sure are obvious to some.
...and shouldn't a digital version of a game be cheaper than it's physical counterpart? We're getting screwed with direct downloads, and the game companies love it.
I could rant about this forever, so I'll stop here.
@xj0462 The free YT app gives you YouTube, but I agree that browsers on handhelds should, by default, have the ability to do it. I guess it all comes down to Flash compatibility. You'd think nowadays it would be a standard feature of all browsers.
@ryanator008 Agreed. If they're determined to view pr0n, they're going to find a way to look at pr0n. I used the browser once or twice as a novelty. Although I have used the YT app quite a bit. I do use the Vita's browser often though. It's got a number of advantages over the 3DS', but of ourse it lacks Flash.
Who cares about the placement of the SD cards? It's not like you'll be swapping it all the time. Jeez. It's sad to think that's a dealbreaker for anyone.
@AVahne Original 3DS flimsy? I got mine on launch day and have played it daily ever since. This thing is as solid as a brick out-house. Say what you will about the design/aesthetics of it, that's totally subjective, but for me the build quality isn't in question. Then again, I've always taken good care of all my stuff, and try not to beat it to hell.
@yuwarite Yeah, in my mind I do consider those systems to be retro now, if maybe to a lesser degree than "2D" systems. But this is a subjective thing to me, and not really that important when it comes right down to it.
And systems such as DC or Saturn (and PS1) have a number of "2D retro" style games. 2D isn't the decider of whether or not a system/game is retro, and by the same token, 3D doesn't arbitrarily dictate non-retro. If that makes sense......
@Luffymcduck Oh jeez...please don't even remind me of Wave Race on Gameboy. If anyone is wondering whether it's a good game or not, I'll just say this: Remember Street Fighter II on Gameboy? 'Nuff said. Some things just aren't meant to be.
Anyways, I love the N64 and GCN Wave Race's. Two of my favorite games ever, and no other water themed game since has even come close,... whether it be graphics, game play, or water physics....nothing can touch what was accomplished with Wave Race. They're also technical showcases for each respective system, and they set the bar pretty darn high. To this day the GCN sequel looks stunning to me, and I still play it all the time. Blue Storm running in high-resolution on Dolphin is a sight to behold, if your PC is up to the task. (Yes, I own a copy of the game)
A new Wave Race on WiiU would get me to buy a system, guaranteed. Sadly though, I don't think Blue Storm was enough of a financial success for the bean counters to justify another sequel. That's a travesty IMHO.
One reviewer said the GCN sequel was too hard for it's own good. Not too sure about that. I've mastered both games because I love them so much. Sometimes a game isn't "too hard", sometimes you just aren't that good at it.
The PAL version is 17% slower? That's insanity. I already wish the game had a bit better sense of speed than it does occasionally. A 17% drop would be totally unacceptable....unless I didn't know any better. Ignorance is bliss I suppose, but I feel sorry for people in PAL regions. lol
@retro_player_22 Yep, microswitches are a beautiful thing indeed.
I just wish Nintendo would've used a "regular" analog stick. Having said that though, I don't dislike the slide pad design, I'm just saying they could have done even better. Afterall, Sony went down that road with the Vita. Again, not a perfect implementation of it, but it's better than the PSP's "stick". Oh..and...let's not forget they actually put TWO sticks on it this time. I bet Nintendo now wishes they had launched the 3DS with dual sticks.
Anyways, back on topic.... people must be really abusing their systems to have that happen. That's pretty much all I can say. I've never noticed the slightest hint of damage on mine.
I can't really speak as to the durability of the circle pad when frantically playing an intense fighting game, because I never use anything other than the d-pad for fighting games.
@Usagi-san Oh you're right, man. It's an unforgiveable transgression perpetrated on all of humanity. The huge Nintendo fans who commit such an act are what's wrong with the world today.
Btw, that's called sarcasm. Sadly, I feel a need to point that out to some people on here. In a fit of rage I ripped the tag off my mattress today...I should probably turn myself in to the authorities. That is the level of absurdity being demonstrated here.
@AdmiralThrawn Does pointing that out make you feel more important or superior?
@Yasume The deadline is past! Talking of this ancient news is pointless and laughable. I mean who talks about news that's like a week old? Come on.
The two of you should discuss over dinner and a movie how ignorant we all are for talking about something that happened so long ago.
Love the candy buttons. Please let the NA versions have them....please.....oh and pretty please give NA a white model....please.
That new controller addition reminds me of that little red input device that seemed to exclusive to IBM laptops or now Lenovo...the "trackpoint" or something like that.
Anyways, it all looks promising to me. Every new feature seems like a genuine improvement...from what I see.
@JimLad A world without Nintendo handhelds sounds like a bleak world to me. I for one would hate to see that happen. It's also downright depressing for me to think devices with touch-screen controls only are the future of mobile gaming. Playing Angry Birds on an iPhone isn't my idea of mobile gaming, but sadly that's becoming the minority opinion.
@GamerJunkie While the Vita's OLED screen is absolutely gorgeous, it actually isn't HD.

Abyss relaxing? I have to disagree with that.

Ok, I feel kinda dumb. I JUST NOW realized that all of these N64 reviews are 64 words long. lol
EDIT: Or, at least, they are no longer than 64 words.

Why even do this? Well, if you have to ask "why", then you're not the kind of person that likes tinkering with stuff.
