Earlier this year Zordix AB announced Aqua Moto Racing Utopia for Wii U; it'll be an expanded HD follow-up to Aqua Moto Racing 3D on the 3DS eShop.
For fans of water-ski racing who mournfully wait for a certain Nintendo franchise to return, the upcoming download release is sure to grab attention; it'll feature local and online multiplayer, too, mainstay features of racing titles like these. With the developer stating that this project will have a far greater budget than its predecessors we're left with the vital question — will it be any good?

Following up from a short tech demo released around E3 time, Zordix AB has published some extended footage to show more of the title; you can check it out below.
Is this making waves with you? Let us know.

It looks pretty good. I hope it has gyroscopic controls like Mario Kart 8.
well still looks kinda cheap but could be fun.
i really like the name though! they use the U from WiiU but not just as a letter but as a word...Utopia
It looks like it's from 2005 or 2006, but hey, if it's fun, who cares.
I would buy the 3ds version if it had online races. I think the Wii-U version will be very good because you can race online. These kinds of games really need online multiplayer play to succeed. There are so many games in the 3ds Eshop which would have benefitted with online multiplayer play. Bowling, aquamoto, the soccer games, Darts, and Baseball just to name a few.
Needs more waves and splash.
Massively improved from the 3DS version, so that makes me happy. If it doesn't have online, though, I likely will pass.
That's pretty cool. I'm a fan of the Wave Race game so this should be fun too.
Online would definenently help but regardless it looks good.
Still waiting….. Seems like they announced this last year. Hopefully it's almost done.
The physics when performing tricks off the ramp seems a little iffy to me...
The music isn't really my cup of tea either.
Eh. I would've wanted Super Mario Wave Race.
This looks quite cool but I know as soon as I buy this game or FAST or a Snowboarding Racing game, Nintendo will announce WaveRace, F-Zero and 1080 reboots.
If Nintendo don't put balance board support in a 1080 game soon then Iwata should quit. It's just stupid to not have one.
Please, please: upgrade the super cheap-looking UI elements. Hell, I do this for work*, so if you need someone to do those fairly cheaply, **I will do them**.
*I'm obviously not in sales, marketing, or tact, but I do solid work.
Looks okay, but the music...no. The need to go back to Wave Race 64, and listen to how a real jet ski game soundtrack sounds like.
@Nintenjoe64 - I bought a Shauwn White snowboarding game on Wii looong ago and it was fun to ride the balance board. I would have bought Sonic and Mario at the Winter Olympics day 1 if it had board support. Not sure I could see it working to well with a jetski game but HD snowboarding is way overdue. Wii Fit U has a few fun games but its not enough for me to change the batteries.
As for this - I like the realistic backgrounds and I like the cartoon cell shaded riders but I do not like them together, too jarring a juxtaposition.
Hopefully this turns out well. I desperately want another Wave Race.
Something about this looks VERY off but I can't pinpoint exactly what it is...
This is what Wave Race 64 HD would look like. The developers are obviously fans of that title. If it controls as good as it looks it should be a hit on the e-Shop.
oohh...a stunt racer!
I need something to scratch that itch after Excite Truck and Excite Bots.
This game looks like it's shaping up pretty well. I almost wish Nintendo would send some people to work with this team to give it that extra bit of polish and secure it as a Nintendo exclusive.
looks fun, but it still looks like the water physics aren't on point. the turns look at little to easy compared to Wave Race.
Hey guys does anyone want a free wind waker hd code? I got this from the mario kart 8 promotion but I wasn't able to use it as today is the last day an I haven't gotten a wii u yet because of financial issues so if anyone wants it just reply back
I enjoyed the 3DS one despite the low critical praise for it. So I'm looking forward to checking this one out whenever it releases. Would definitely love for Nintendo to bring out a new Wave Race and 1080.
@Videogamer123 I'd love the Wind Waker code, but what time does it expire? As I'm not home were my Wii U is at the moment.
Add some green shells and I'm definitely in. All kidding aside though, I might pick this one up after I have some spare change, which could be a while with SSB on the way.
@Draken18 I'm assuming the code will probably expire at 11:59 PT, so it should still be good, but I'm not positive on that.
@Draken18 jjmesa16 is right do you think you will make it in time?
@Videogamer123 No I won't make it I work till the morning 0630 EST. No worries pass the code on to someone else that is home in time to use it. Thanks though.
@Draken18 Ok and no problem I just don't want this code to go unused
If anyone wants this code it's still up for grabs
@Lightningturtle ok sure how do you want me to give it to you
this actually looks pretty good and i wasnt a big fan of wave racer back then so that saids alot. just hope its online.
@Lightningturtle no idea but why not ya know? You can just delete the comment later
@Lightningturtle "I'll take it PLEASE"
There,fixed that for you
As a huge wave race fan i am very excited for this, shame Nintendo as usual couldnt be bothered to give us what we want, How about a new F-Zero, Punch out etc etc
Online too? Day one for me.
@Videogamer123 If you're still giving out that code I'm on my Wii U right now? If its gone good luck to whoever got it, VERY generous!
Just hope they fix the music.
not bad but it seem to be far from the quality of wave race and the music stile is tedious hope it get better while waiting for a new wave race.
The Only thing I want from this game is that feeling you got in Waverace when you were jumping and diving straight into the water. If the game can replicate this, I have absolutly nothing to add to it ^^"
Kinda lacking in you know ... waves. Also the physics seem to be really off, graphics are plain terrible, too.
I loved Wave Race, but this is just not it, and certainly not a modern, HD take on it.
@MJKOP yeah the code is gone now I gave it away. It kinda sucks to have to give it away but hey, at least somebody will end up enjoying the game
I think I'll pass on this one: I agree with everyone that says that something about this title just looks really off, on several levels as far as I'm concerned. The water seems strangely synthetic and too viscous and/or unresponsive (missing huge splashes and waves), the jet ski physics seem too light and they don't really seem to make contact with the various surfaces in the way they should. Besides that the music is horrible too. This actually makes Wave Race Blue Storm on GameCube look good. The water was way more realistic, and the gameplay and controls were spot on. The fact that a game that clearly wants to be Wave Race being released so many years later can't even equal that quality on better hardware is either a testament to the prowess of the people behind Wave Race or a typical example of how cloned wannabe games just never quite seem to get it right...
Just look at what an HD update of Wave Race Blue Storm could look like on Wii U:
(fast forward to the 4:10 mark if you want to skip the tutorial)
And that is just upscaling. If they'd add some of the effects they used on the Wind Waker remake, it would look even better.
And here's a nice and recent review of this title:

@Videogamer123 yeah definitely they'll appreciate it I'm sure, good on you!
If its inexpensive, and fun, I'll dive in , however the music is ghetto, and the waves seem mediocre at best, but until nintendo announces a new wave race, this will have to wet our noses for the time being.
I second that they should bring Wave Race (or the GC sequel) to WiiU in HD instead, or the N64 original to 3DS as a 3-D Remake
This is not even a Wave Race clone, but rather a 90% copy... still, if it's inexpensive, I'll give it a try.
@Nintenjoe64 Then buy it day one so those games can release
@njblair143
I was hoping that buying the N64 and Gamecube versions was enough to guarantee sequels! I even rebought them on VC!
I might still buy this just for a laugh but I still haven't completed Waverace on Expert on VC
@Ralek85 I couldn't agree more. This isn't even in the same league as the Wave Race games. I wish it was, but it's not.
I think this looks both good and fun. If they can pull this off in 4 player multi, or even better, 5 player, then this could be really good. Also, the video says tech demo, so perhaps additional tweaks to physics and such will be made to make things feel more realistic and water-ish.
