Next week a rather unique feat will be accomplished by HAMSTER: the company has managed to release a Neo Geo game every single week for an entire year! You read that correctly, Nintendo Switch's first anniversary is coming up fast and there will be no less than 56 Neo Geo games available on the system! If you are thinking the math doesn't add up, you'll recall the service began with five games available on launch day: Waku Waku 7, Shock Troopers, World Heroes Perfect, Metal Slug 3 and The King of Fighter's '98.
The honour next week will go to Sengoku 2, a 1993 release that sees the first game's concept vastly improved, providing a solid game for any scrolling beat-'em-up fans. You and a friend will be able to once again summon different characters to help you fight your way between time and space until you reach the decidedly '90's goofy looking and very properly named 'Sovereign of Darkness'.
Sengoku 2 will release on 1st March for the standard price of $7.99/€6.99/£6.29. Will you be slashing bad guys left and right next week? Do you carry a small fortune of Neo Geo titles around on your Switch? Let us know...

Nice! Another arcade classic!
that looks amazebaws!
Sweet! Sengoku 1 was "so bad it's good" type of beat-em ups. I'm hoping this one is better polished. Looking forward to more laughs
Just like with shoot-em-ups, I can never have enough beat-em-ups. I skipped the original Sengoku as it looked pretty bad but I'll be getting this one and hopefully the superior 3rd entry for sure.
Never played it but I have heard good things about this one and its sequel. Will get.
It was 5 games on launch - you missed out The King of Fighters '98.
Oh yes!!!!
Let me know when Sengoku 3 hits.
Been waiting for this and 3 to show up. I’ll get this
@OorWullie My sentiments exactly 👊
And huge congrats and well done to Hamster. Keep the Neo-Geo alive!
@OorWullie I'm really into beat-em-up games as well. I've played probably an unhealthy amount of those games. Good call skipping the first one. It didn't do much for me. I have it on the SNK collection for Wii. The second is a nice improvement, but the third game is one I really love.
I do wonder if this is the prelude to having Sengoku 3 finally available somewhere to purchase in the future?
@antster1983 ops! My favourite game in the series no less. Fixing it...
@Shiryu Star Force is the next Arcade game.

@antster1983 Was already writing the post, thanks.
Hamster...stop taking all of my money...
@antster1983 Oh very nice!
I think I haven't played the arcade version of Star Force before, only the Famicom port.
Will pick this up for sure.
I wonder how far of Terra Cresta and Elevator Action are.
Sengoku 3 is pretty fantastic, so hopefully we'll get that one soon.
@OorWullie I'm personally waiting for sengoku 3. The sprite work in that game is amazing!
Ah, the one I've never played. Can't wait!
@Shiryu Well, when Sengoku 3 does come out, it would make the series the first one to come out on the Arcade Archives in release order Super Sidekicks might be another one down the road.
@masterLEON At least when "Aero Fighters 3" is released it was after "2" as well.
Finally. I am not a big fan of Sengoku these days but I thought it was kind of odd to only be offering the original game.
@Shiryu You can actually buy Sengoku 3 on the original Wii Store, it is still available there for now.
@JayJ eh!? I was released on Virtual Console!? I somehow don't remember that!
@Shiryu Yeah it is one of the few hidden gems that you can get on their Neo Geo VC. If you are interested I would recommend checking out while you still can, you won't be able to buy anything on the Wii Store in about a month and then it's closing for good at the end of the year.
Ah, Sengoku 2... This sequel of the original, and Sengoku 3 are most definitely the two best games in the series, and very easy and definite recommendations for anyone that likes side scrolling beat em ups.
The sprite work is amazing, especially in the third game, but Sengoku 2 is already a VAST improvement over the first game, and has more content and variety as it's predecessor as well, so if this is your type of game, I'm all but certain that you would not want to miss out on this one.
Here's hoping the third game in the series will follow as well, because that only builds upon the improvements that have been implemented since the second game described here.
Far as I'm concerned, this is a solid 8, and maybe even an 8,5 out of 10.
For those still on the fence, take a look at that video at the top of the page, if you haven't done so already...
And speaking of recommending it: oh, @NEStalgia...
I'm starting to think not having a virtual arcade on the Switch has actually been a good thing. Hamster is now so ingrained on the system it's probable that even the most casual of gamers have tried a couple of titles. And it could be argued that a new generation of gamers are being taught how to play fighters an schumps. If virtual console existed we'd put all our cash into the old Mario, Kirby games and so on. Hell, look at how well Mario VS. I,m not saying the VC is not wanted, it's just been unexpectantly good that it's been delayed. Retro fans are in heaven, and new fans re being created. Gamers experiment, obscure titles are released. Hamster have created such a good business model that other retro outfits - psyiko, tiger shark- are following it very closely. It seems that Hamster were not bluffing when they said they want 800 games from them on the Switch. Winners all round really.
Will be buying this game so fast your head’ll spin!
@JayJ I was wondering if you could still add points to our Wii accounts, thanks for letting me know!
@Shiryu I think Sengoku 3 was either the last or one of the last NEOGEO games released on WiiVC, and perhaps one of the last VC games period. You actually have until March 26 to add points to the Wii Shop, then January 30, 2019 to spend them. I'm still paring down my list so I can bring it within a couple hundred $$, but to me this is the most excruciating part about not having Switch VC info. I don't care if it's late, I just want a game list so I don't double dip, Especially when we can potentially have crisper visuals and portability.

@masterLEON It really is a bit of a gem that one, and most people never even heard of it since it came out so very late in SNK, mid bankruptcy life.
Sengoku 2... FINALLY! Looks like 3 is a lock then.
@sdelfin I've got a few so far on my Switch, Double Dragon, Mutation Nation, Robo Army and Burning Fight. Other than Sengoku, I believe that's all the Neo Geo ones released so far.I've never played any of the Sengoku games before, I really like the look of them though, well 2.and 3 anyway . I've got Wulverblade too which is fantastic but a bit too difficult for its own good. My all time favourite is Final Fight on the Mega CD, it felt like I had the arcade machine at home and at that time, that was something to brag about.
I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, we've got something awesome going on in the forums where a group of us compete against each other for high scores on the. Neo Geo shooters , with a different game each week. This weeks game is Shock Troopers. We've got a nice little community going, would be great if you could join us.
