We know, we wish Microsoft didn't own Banjo-Kazooie either, but that's what happens when you buy Rare and (if the rumours are true) even bigger publishers and studios, but that doesn't mean we can't have some form of the much loved bird 'n' bear pairing. We have Playtonic's Yooka-Laylee and now we have some officially licensed skins for the Nintendo Switch (and Wii U) versions of Minecraft.
Skin Pack 1 brings with a whole host of new looks for your Minecraft avatars, including Banjo-Kazooie, Halo and Fable. So it's a Microsoft exclusive blowout on both Nintendo Switch and Wii U. Would've thought it, eh? The pack drops today so fill your boots, kids.
Ever wanted to slap cows into raw meat while dressed as Master Chief, and do it all in handheld form? Well now you can...

Dat tease though
I'm sad because, if we ever see a 64 Classic, B-K, B-T and many other Rare games are going to be missing.
That's bananas.
Amazing.
@Devlind Unless Nintendo and Microsoft work out some kind of deal.
Well everyone's dream of seeing a Banjo Threeie ain't happening any time soon or ever. Rare is hardly themselves anymore, Playtonic's efforts with Yooka-Laylee was bury by critics and Microsoft only knows how to tease than actually make a game so I guess putting Banjo and friends on Minecraft is the way to go just like their many past efforts with shoehorning characters into other games like Project Spark and Sega All-Stars Racing.
The first part of the title...
But where's the better together update?
I still haven't recovered.
Banjo K and Diddy Kong Racing are probably the two retro games on past Nintendo systems I'd like most to revisit on the Switch's Virtual Console. I'm aware such a release of these games and the existence of a Switch VC are mere flights of fancy but an N64 lover can dream, lol!
Sigh...
This may pave the way for a proper Banjo-Threeie coming to both Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, I mean, it is Banjo-Kazooie's 20th anniversary.
Minecraft skins in general is some kind of alternate universe joke where punchlines aren't required but it's funny anyway.
Microsoft is going to be the last company on Earth still supporting the Wii U.
This means no Freezeezy Peak MC world, huh? Microsoft is the worst.
@Aerona It's junk. I highly recommend any Switch owner interested in Minecraft to buy the current Switch version, which is a great port. The BT update has so many problems on XB1 from performance to crafting to world transfers...
I don't have high hopes for when it comes to the Switch, either. And if Microsoft is true to its word the original MC Switch edition won't be purchaseable anymore after the update, but still playable as a separate software.
EDIT: This includes anyone waiting for the retail version, which is destined to be the Better Together version. If you download the current version, you will be able to get the BT version for free according to MS.
Eitherway, if you want Minecraft on Switch, the current version ("console" edition) is likely to be the one you want (vs mobile edition in BT) and it may disappear at some point.
No bad ending Grunty, though
Did Xbox also get the Mario Skin Pack?
Cool. Would never convince me to buy an Xbox though. Btw, you forgot a "Who" in front of that would've there my man.
@DillonatorWright They don't care about the anniversary cause the original wasn't on Xbox on that date. I don't think Microsoft has ever done any anniversary stuff with any of their franchise or franchise that they bought.
But Nintendo wouldn't allow Link on Soul Calibur II HD so that we could finally have a version with all 3 characters.
@AWeirdGlacier Nintendo didn't allow it cause Namco, Sony, and Microsoft never ask for it.
A sign of things to come, perhaps?
gonna go cry
Omg that’s crazy
I don't care if Nintendo doesn't own Banjo, the character designs aren't all that amazing (but worked really effectively in a N64 polygon world) and Odyssey was easily the best Banjo game ever made anyway. The appeal of the 2 Banjos, IMO, was the way the open world worked coupled with the personality of everything in the game making the exploratory time enjoyable. With Odyssey they've trumped that.
Not sure I like how you put "and Wii U" in parenthesis.
@rjejr I mean, they just updated the PS3 version as well, so I don't see what's funny here. They'd update the Wii version if it existed as well, but then I guess Ubi still releases Just Dance there...
Waste of a "partnership"
“Banjo-Kazooie” is a singular word. Great English in the headline, there. If you want to use the plural form, just say “Banjo and Kazooie”.
Instead of Nintendo, I wish Microsoft would go 3rd party and release games on PC, Sony and Nintendo products. Can have Sony for dedicated home consoles, Nintendo of portables, and PC remains PC.
@ACK "but then I guess Ubi still releases Just Dance there..."
Wii may get games longer than Wii U. And Sony still promotes the PS3 more than Nintendo does Wii U, and PS3 is about 4 or 5 years into it's obsolesce now, Wii U just got the Zelda BotW DLC a couple of months ago, after Nintendo turned off Miiverse. PS3 gets games every month w/ PS+, I never played Sacred 3 so looking forward to trying that out w/ my kids.
@ACK From what I understand, Just Dance actually sells best on the Wii for whatever reason. Guess not everybody's shoved theirs to the back of a closet yet. I know my 76 year old neighbor still has hers hooked up. To watch Netflix but still.
@Heavyarms55 I don’t think that’d be a good idea. Competition helps innovation and the continuing of a healthy ecosystem.
With Xbox out of the hardware race and Nintendo don’t even trying to compete, what’s there to keep Sony and Nintendo and, in fact, everyone, improving their products then?
@maruse PC and tablet/phone games. Consoles have always chased after PC and portable gaming now has major competition from phone and tablet games. (my excruciatingly low opinion of tablet/phone games does not blind me to knowing they are a serious threat.)
Could this be a sign of things to come?
Lol, even blockier then their Nuts and bolts counterparts!
