"I'll answer that question when you answer this one - Why would Ntindo announce hat it would only take 4 years to make a game that they knew would take 5? I'm not the one guessing how long it takes to make a Zelda game, they are the ones telling me how long it takes to make a Zelda game. Shouldn't they know better than I do how long that should take? Isn't that what they are being paid for?"

Well, I'm no developer, but there is obviously a lot that goes into development that is hard to account for, given how delays happen very often to all different companies, no matter how talented and/or knowledgeable they are of the industry. My personal opinion is that when the game was being developed early on, the priority was getting it out to help the Wii U sell well but as time went on and they realized nothing was going to save the console, they probably figured they might as well put more into it to make it a really special experience for the next console. But, who knows?

"It's that bigger and different fancy physics engine that worries me to think they could decide to take it off of Wii U. They really wouldn't want to, too much anger, but they'd rather put out a good game on NX than a 5-10 frame per second slide show on Wii U."

Personally, I think they would be wise to take it off Wii u and essentially "force" Wii U owners to upgrade to NX, from a business sense. But it seems it's a dual release as of now.

It is wicked impressive how you always know about things before they are posted here. Please do me a favor and continue to point out when you knew something before this website posted it.

Please just go into a little more detail than you have lately, though. Like instead of juat telling us that you knew about something 54 minutea before it was posted, maybe you could also fill us in with the first name of the person you were with when you found out and what beverage you were drinking!

I look forward to staying up to date with when you first heard information that i hear later! Oh! And PLEASE make sure to let me know every single time you tell NintendoLife news you read on other websites! Thanks!!

Re: Editorial: Rediscovering the Gems of the Wii U Library

LetsGoRetro

@MarioPhD

I feel the exact opposite. What franchise received it's best iteration on this console? I dont think anybody would dare argue 3D or 2D Mario did. Zelda didnt receive an exclusive. Everybody hated Star Fox. Yoshis Wooly World was good but i havent heard anyone claim it better than SNES yoshis island. An argument could possibly be made for DKC but most would feel that the SNES iterations were superior and defining, i feel. Maybe MK8 but most would agree Double Dash was the series' pinnacle.

Zero franchises received their "defining" entry. At best, they got "good" entries.

Re: Editorial: Rediscovering the Gems of the Wii U Library

LetsGoRetro

I truly don't understand people who think the console is great, i.e. "best since snes!" or "favorite console ever!".

Of course everyone has their own opinions but it seems so clear to me that the Wii U lacked games that felt monumental, legendary, industry-changing, etc.

In fact, none of the home consoles seem to have games with those kinds of feelings to them.

The 3D Mario entry is a very important factor in this every gen, and this is the only entry in that series that failed to live up to the seriea' high bar for me. And, I mean, DRASTICALLY. It felt like a 2d game masquerading as. 3d experience.

Speaking of 2d games, some of the console's top games bei g 2d, a style largely moved on from 20 years ago, contributed to this lack of a feeling of innovation I am referencing.

I thought Rayman Legends was the best 2d platformer I had ever played, and it still gelt like retreading old ground that i moved on from since I was a kid.

I have heard that DKC TF is even better and that Yoshis WW is tremendous, too (and hard, which is really attractive to me) but I still struggle to find motivation to buy either.

The 3d zelda entry is another mJor contributor to how legendary a nintenso console gen feels and we havent gotten that yet. And the fact that its releasing on NX also hurts the Wii U even more from this standpoint. Because while this happened with Twilight Princess, too, the HUGE difference is that we had already received the monumental Windwaker for that gen.

The combination of no exciting 3d mario, no exciting exclusive Zelda, a good portion of the systems great games being of a style largely moved on from, and this being the worst console yet for 3rd party support really combined to make this generation feel flat for me.

Other factors like Splatoon just not being of interest to me and thus just happening to be the gen where Mario Kart went from "cant get enough" to "sick of the formula no matter how good the game is" really gurt thia gen for me, too.

This gen just really did NOT do it for me as im sure you can tell but i am super excited for the possibilities of the NX and believe Zelda BOTW is the PERFECT NX launch title.

Re: Video: Nintendo Releases Showcase Video for Paper Mario: Color Splash

LetsGoRetro

@rjejr

While BoTW has seen 2 delays, and each killed me, it's worth noting that barring majoras mask for obvious reasons, 3d zeldas always take about 5 years to make, so the original 2015 was too ambitious, especially conssidering this is the biggest one. Why would it take a year less than usual to make a bigger one. The new release window represents the typical 5 year window and a little extra time to make it bigger, different, and with a fancy physics engine.

Nintendo would be wise to majoras mask a title or 2 to make waits easier.

@Ikramali

Every setence is correct in your post. It is alright to make kiddie games. It is also where Nintendo went wrong.

When i was a kid, gaming wasnt really cool, like at all (im 32 now). It evolved to be something that was cool and for adults also, and continued evolving to where adults and the "cool crowd" probably make up the majority nowadays.

Nintendo didnt evolve with it.

Re: Microsoft Blocks NESBox Emulator On Xbox One

LetsGoRetro

@Kirk

Yes i am a pre-crime expert. For example, when i see a book called "How to get away eoth murder" my common sense meter kicks in and goes "Hm, that book is going to teach me how to get away with murder".

NESBox. It is in the title. Nobody is going to play your clever little games about "determining" what a product is for when its both in the title and shows PICTURES of actual nes games.

This is big business. Again, grow up.

Re: Microsoft Blocks NESBox Emulator On Xbox One

LetsGoRetro

@kirk

Grow up. These are multi billion dollar corporations that have reputations to maintain.

Just like you claim Microsoft is using "clever wording" to get their way, emulator creators try to be clever.

"Oh here is a product that blatantly advertises its sole existence is to play illegally downloaded roms but because they're not included with the app we're TECHNICALLY not doing anything illegal! Hehehehe! Arent we clever?"

No, you're not. Microsoft wouldn't want the reverse situation on nintendo's consoles. Virtual consoles resell these old games, and making them easier to download free on a competitor's console is DIRECTLY stealing from Nintendo's profits.

Re: Fresh Nintendo Patents Reinforce Concept of NX Featuring Detachable Controllers

LetsGoRetro

@Alexkidd1985

You expected to get 5 years out of it and you will get an absolute minimum of 4 years and 4 months (assuming you stop using it the second the NX comes out).

Is it really that bad?

You didn't "invest". You bought something for fun, and at most, got a few months less than average.

I can't understand why people are acting like it was dropped after a year. You got plenty of quality software for your measly 250-350 dollars purchase (measly for something that lasts nearly a half decade)

Re: Video: Five Super Mario 64 Secrets You May Have Missed - Part One

LetsGoRetro

@JHDK i think the Galaxy games are among the best games ever made. You could probably make the case for them being THE best. But, I am a big believer in "new games over remakes" by almost any measure.

Galaxy already looks great. I dont want to have to wait, say, another year for a new Mario adventure because guys that would have been creating it are busy changing Galaxy from a great looking game to a phenomenal looking game. And it is so easy to find and play in it's original form that it is just silly to waste resources remaking this game.

I can see if you are a gamer that loves to replay games 100x that you would love remakes, but i am a play it once type of guy. 2 or 3 times at most. Once the newness of it is gone, it just isnt exciting to me.

This is all my opinion. But when i game, the excitement is "i wonder whats around this next corner?" and not "wow, this looks sleek!" i personally dont care much about graphics, and think most games from ps2 on look just fine.

Re: Leaked Legend of Zelda Image Shows Link Scaling New Heights

LetsGoRetro

@gcunit

Your comment was funny until i remembered how much truth lies behind the joke. Nintendo unfortunately has lost all sense making things "worth it" to the player for exploring.

They actually do believe rupees are worth the exploration, in a game where you always have too many anyways. It's bizarre because they are so talented and intelligent in 90 percent of what they do, but then they make weird decisions like that and it baffles me.

Does nobody stand up and say "An optional item or two would be way cooler here"?

Re: Nintendo Plans Corporate Changes That Point to Diverse Business Moves

LetsGoRetro

Id love it if Nintendo took the Dave and Busters business model but replaced Arcade Cabinets with home consoles and couches/chairs. Groups of 2 to 6 could gather and game together, with the agreement that if yoy bring leas than 6 your party will be rounded out by others.

They could have waitresses bring you food, coffee and beverages, including alcohol.

A bar where the gaming couches are the centerpiece, not a dance floor.

Really bummed that you don't value my opinion, but I predicted that.

For reference, here was the initial prediction: whocares?.com

You can cross reference it with this one, also: I'mabsoutelydevastatedrightnow.net

Re: Review: Star Fox Zero (Wii U)

LetsGoRetro

@VanillaLake

Sorry, my friend, but it's just odd and, quite frankly, pretentious: "Hey everybody, look at me I guessed the score, here are all the links to prove it". Who cares, man? Why should people go through these links to see that you got a score right?

Re: Rumour: More Claims Made For New Legend of Zelda on Wii U and NX, Gender Choice For Playable Character

LetsGoRetro

Everyone complaining about it also being on NX needs to seriously stop right now. You're lucky it's still even coming to Wii U after how hard it has failed. Nintendo is a company that has to make money, and using this game to promote it's new system is the best option available.

As a sidenote, the console you bought is not "your investment". They put plenty of games on it, and are probably putting this one, too, so you got your money's worth. Consoles are not "investments".

Re: Soapbox: No, Star Fox Zero's Controls Are not Bad or Broken

LetsGoRetro

@crimsontadpoles

Edit: Can't we just assume that whenever someone says that something is good/bad, it's always going to be subjective? Adding "In my opinion" or "I expect it'll be" seems a bit redundant in a forum, which should be full of subjective debate.

THANK YOU! I was just scrolling down to type this exact thing and caught this comment. It drives me NUTS when people say "you are acting like the whole world thinks this because you didn't say imo". So silly to think you have to qualify every single thing you say by stating it's your opinion. OBVIOUSLY it's your opinion if you're saying it.

This is one of the things on the internet that drives me nuts. ASSUME it's someone's opinion, as 99.9 percent of what they say IS their opinion. Having to qualify should come if you're saying "THE WHOLE WORLD THINKS THIS". THAT should be the qualification.

It's like these people want these redundant statements:

"My feeling on it is that it's not good. They shouldn't have done this, in my opinion. My view is that it just wasn't necessary. They should've went another route with it, in my view"

Yuck!

Re: Soapbox: No, Star Fox Zero's Controls Are not Bad or Broken

LetsGoRetro

@Xenoguner Yet, you have n issue with the hundreds of people who say "the controls are good" in every one of those articles, though. So, your argument essentially is you don't like to continually hear the opinion if it differs from yours.

Sorry, but he has just as much right to post on the article that he doesn't like the controls as the many people that post on every article that they do like the controls.

Re: Soapbox: No, Star Fox Zero's Controls Are not Bad or Broken

LetsGoRetro

@Project_Dolphin

Both of our sides of this are childish. However, mine atleast makes sense.

You are stuck on this extremely odd idea you have that commenting on Alex's video meant he "stated Alex's opinion". Word for word you say he "stated someone else's opinion". No, he didn't. He stated his own. This is stating someone else's opinion: "Project_Dolphin thinks this". That is not what he did.

Stating his opinion on Alex's video does not = stating Alex's opinion. This is so odd.

Re: Soapbox: No, Star Fox Zero's Controls Are not Bad or Broken

LetsGoRetro

@Project_Dolphin

"Let other gamers state their opinions" What an ironic thing for you to say.

  • "Let other gamers state their opinions"
    "Hey man, don't state your opinion on Alex's video if it's different from his because he made the video and you didn't!"

Really?

You seem to have set up this rigid system of the opinion only being valid if the person themselves did the blog or wrote an article. You don't have to do those things for your opinion to be valid. He watched a video that explained how they worked, and determined they were bad, in his opinion. In your own words, man, "let other gamers state their opinions"
