Re: Mega Man Creator Keiji Inafune Working On Spiritual Successor Mighty No. 9

@ricklongo

I layed down in the wet grass outside Nintendo and peered into the basement window and saw Miyamoto and let me tell you, he's going all out on the one. It's called "Turtle" and you play as, you guessed it, a turtle, that, while he looks exactly like a SMW turtle, he's totally different because he has an orange shell, not green.

It's sort of a stealth game where you have to walk around these big Italian Plumbers (don't worry, they're dressed in blue) and you hide in your shell when they turn to face you and sit and wait to trip them.

Needless to say, I think he's on to something here and you need not worry about him recycling ideas. Before security lifted me off the grass I managed to sneak a glimpse of the title and saw the word "Curtle", so I'm guessing it might be a play off the name Curt and the wors Turtle.

@kirk @darkcooledge

Now, play nice, boys!

Realistically though, Kirk, I thought the same thing upon reading your comment, but let me answer in a more pleasant, if still slightly aggressive, manner. I'm no business major or math genius, but lets look at this real quick.

They're taking a loss at the 350 price point. How much of a loss we don't know, but being that we're told one game sale brings them back in the positive, let's estimate 25 bucks of every game sale is profit, after what the retailer makes, packaging, development costs, etc. So this would mean the loss is no more than 24 bucks. So, let's say they lose 20 bucks per console, and that 1 game sale brings them to $5 profit between Console / 1 game.

You're suggesting they drop it 200 dollars. They nowlose 220 bucks every single time a system goes out the door. At 25 dollars profit per game, they need to sell 9 games to make 5 dollars profit. I mean, come on.

How could that ever become profitable for them? I am pretty sure the average wii owners owns only 3-4 games by the numbers, right? I don't remember exactly but I know it was lower than both ps3 & 360.

So, since they obviously can't make a lower powered system since people already complain it's not powerful enough as is, how would your proposition EVER be reasonable for Ninty, bro? We love their games, let's support them.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda (Wii U eShop / NES)

@Relias

Lttp convinced you Zelda had lost it's magic? Eh?? Hey, opinions, everyone's got 'em, but I honestly can't understand liking Zelda1 and disliking Zelda3. It is literally just a version of the original that is improved in absolutely every regard. It would be like loving your broken down Dodge Dart because it gets you around but then feeling like the car indusry is losing it's magic when you try a Mercedes S Class.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Mario Party: Island Tour Dated For North America

LetsGoRetro

@Unrandomsam

Absolutely calling BS on this! Unless, of course, you aren't referring to the original and you mean something along the lines of "Your first time playing it was one of it's rereleases and anytime you got stuck you jumped on the internet for the answer"

Granted, we were 9-10 when it first came out, but I used to have sleepover parties with 4-5 kids and we'd all put our minds together to get through the game and it still took weeks. That is, admittedly, because there were maybe 2 or 3 times where we literally spent days trying to figure out what to do next. And there was no internet. If you couldn't figure it out, you didn't move on.

It's nowhere near the difficulty of the first 2, and less difficult than Link's Awakening after it, but it struck the perfect balance of fair difficulty.

Are you telling me in one day, you managed to find the book of mudora and know to bring it to the desert palace to open it, find the flippers, find all 3 medallions, figure out where to dig up the flute (trying to think of the parts that weren't marked on your map for you), beat 12 dungeons including the castle, etc.? Just the way the overworld map was created threw a wrench into getting around sometimes. I remember specifically in the dark world, to the right of the castle, there's this obscure little area you have to hookshot across and man, did it take us a while to figure that one out. I also vaguely remembering being incredibly relieved to get inside the Ice Palace because there was some difficulty with that.

Ah, the memories on this game.. Kids, LBW is for us, the grownups who grew up with this beautiful series. We developed a crush on her with LOZ, second guessed if she was really that pretty when AOL rolled around, and then realize we had indeed met out soulmate when Lttp popped up

Re: Nintendo and Capcom to Announce Upcoming Collaboration

LetsGoRetro

Please, nothing along the lines of silly costumes in games. Tekken, Rayman, it was fun but it's run it's course. Please, please let this be something of quality like a brand new, unique game, either Monster Hunter or Mega Man. Not an old game with new numbers and letters slapped on the title. A new, quality experience, and PLEASE put it on your system that desperately needs it- The Wii U! Give the public reasons to need this system when they already have a 3ds or Sony/Microsoft machine!

Re: 3D Gaming is Very Much A Part of Nintendo's Future Plans

LetsGoRetro

@Ronoh & @KnightRider666

This device also appeals to someone like me. Growing up, I had an SNES & my friemd has a gameboy. I had zero interest in portables, and for the most part, still do. Then, Link's Awakening happened. And ever since then, I buy every Nintendo handheld when it's Zelda comes out, beat it and trade it in (I never replay games unless multiplayer)

I will admit, now that handhelds are powerful enough to duplicate an SNES generation-level+ experience, there are more games to interest me as time goes on (Advance Wars was tremendous)

So, for someone like me, 29 years old, that'll probablyown this thing for 6 months to a year tops before trading it in for some Wii U credit, and will only buy Link Between Worlds, Dream Team & POSSIBLY Monster Hunter 4, this is great.

The cheapest possibly option for me, please =)

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Surprises Us All With the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut

LetsGoRetro

I don't have time right now to read through 120 comments, but I'm guessing this has already been said:

Nintendo is already taking a loss on hardware. You guys suggesting a 100 dollar price drop are asking too much from them. So, every system they sell is 110-120 loss for them If they cut it to 250.

What does each piece Of software net them in pure profit, 20 bucks or so? So they have to sell 5-6 games per console to break even? I'm pretty sure the average games to console ratio is much lower than that for them. I know last gen they were lower than Microsoft and Sony. And keep in mind that this bundle comes WITH a game. One of the only potentially system selling pieces of software they even have right now. How the heck could they make that up?

If they dropped it to 250 with a 60 dollar game included... You're saying this console is only worth 190 bucks? Come on...

Re: Say Hello To The Nintendo 2DS - A 3DS without 3D

LetsGoRetro

Ugh, come on, guys, think a little here.

The 3ds took off like crazy when what 2 things happened? Good games, price drop.

Well, the games are already there, and this releasing the same day as Pokemon could hint at a bundle with it. This is made for kids. Who is Pokemon's target audience? Kids.

What was the 2nd thing that made the sales skyrocket? Lower price.

Putting this all together now?

And Ps- What is everyone saying will ruin portable consoles? Oh, tablets. What's one of the reasons that'll never happen? Buttons.

Oh look, what is this, essentially? A tablet with buttons.

This works. In every way. Nintendo just decimated the portable market even MORE.

Re: Ubisoft: Nintendo Has "Some Of The Best IP In The World", But Needs To Work On Communication

LetsGoRetro

Another concern I have, regarding the sales, is that Nintendo should've STARTED this whole influx of games with one of the 2 system selling titles (SM3DW & MK8).

As the first few sales weeks are the most important for most titles, it's really important to have the userbase there when these titles come.

Pikmin3, W101, WiiPartyU, Sonic Lost World all look great, but they arent system sellers. While Zelda usually is, i fear a 10 year old remake of an entry that didnt sell great, isnt. DKC im guessing isnt a console mover, but again, its a guess, maybe someone can correct me. But i cant see non-mario 2d platformers being too must-have in 2013.

Anyway, my point is, the better strategy would be to release a system selling game, move the units, THEN start dropping all these games. By the time these games sell the system, this whole year (er.. 2nd half of the year) of games is going to be old news.

Obviously the games arent ready yet, but they had a long time to do this, whether it meant pulling the Pikmin team to help with 3d world or whatever it took. I just hope this works out...

Re: Ubisoft: Nintendo Has "Some Of The Best IP In The World", But Needs To Work On Communication

LetsGoRetro

This looks great, but one thing concerns me. The "hook" for this game is the anti gravity, but the camera follows you upside down from what ive seen, so you dont look upside down, other than the backgrounds. I pictured it that your kart actually appears upside down, with switched controls (left to go right, right to go left). Am i missing something, or is this basically just the same Mario Kart as always but with upside down backgrounds at times?

Re: Review: Super Mario Bros. 2 (Wii U eShop / NES)

LetsGoRetro

@DrDingus ..I don't mean to be a jerk, but "I don't know if i'm willing to pay 2.50 for a game I've played several times already" I mean, really? 2.50? How much lower can it get? Do you actually have a set price of what games are worth to you or is it just "Whatever the company initially asks is automatically too high"? I mean, why do I get the feeling thT if they priced it at, say, 3.99, your thought would be "I don't know if I'd drop 3.99, that's too high. 2.50 would be more reasonable". Again, sorry if it sounds like i'm attacking you, but people are always bashing the pricing in these comment sections and I would REALLY like to know what they're basing their ideas of fair pricing on, geesh.

Re: Industry Analyst: Nintendo Is "Positioned Perfectly" To Capitalise On Second-Screen Trend

LetsGoRetro

@SteveW When they talk about a Mario game helping, they mean 3d Mario. 2d Mario isn't going to set the world on fire in 2012/2013. However, the Wii U actually sold well in comparison to other recent console launches, with NSMB being the driving force, arguably. But one game isn't going to help the system 8-9 months later. Only consistent software releases will result in consistent hardware sales.

Re: Madden NFL Is Skipping Nintendo Systems For The First Time Since 1991

LetsGoRetro

Wow. Nobody is a bigger Ninty fan than me but this is NOT good. Things are very much becoming Nintendo does THIS, everyone else does THIS. Which is fine in some cases, but c'mon- You don't wanna be the only one in your group of friends not playing a game... It's becoming where a PS or MS console is essential, and a Nintendo console is essential only to those, like me, who just can't imagine themselves missing one of Nintendo's own 20-plus great franchises. Any way you spin this though, missing out on one of the biggest selling franchises of all-time on your consoles is never good...

Re: Shigesato Itoi Says Mother 4 Would Be "Impossible"

LetsGoRetro

I had a deep love for all 16 bit RPG's such as FF2&3, Secret of Mana/Evermore, as well as adventure games likeZelda and the Soul Blazer series as a kid. This game was always pretty cool, but didnt stack up to the others in my opinion. I had no idea this game would come to be as highly regarded as it is. It is by no means bad, but why does everyone act like it's such a good story? I like it's quirkiness, but it is almost too random for it's own good. Giant pencils sticking out of the ground instead of boulders, characters named Apple Kid and Orange kid who invent weird machines. Im only to the town where the guy has the police force in his pocket (current playthrough, farthest ive ever got) but so far, this game is just a sequence of random, quirky events. Its no FF3, thats for sure. What is so amazing about this game?

Re: Eiji Aonuma Speaks About Zelda 3DS and its Lengthy Development Time

LetsGoRetro

Wow, look at some of these comments- "bland environments" "nintendo must have extremely inifficient developers" ... what? You can criticize this company's hardware decisions over the past decade-plus, but the one thing that has NEVER changed is the quality of Nintendo software. Why do people continue to doubt this company, only to be proven wrong again and again? Their second-to-none software is the reason they can make harware missteps- it is that good, that it makes up for anything. The Light World may be very similar, but the Dark World, where most of the game took place (9 dungeons vs the Light World's 3 + castle), has been vanquished, so atleast 1/2 of the game will be different. Either something replaces the Dark World (Golden Land?) Or maybe just the Light World borders have expanded. So this game'll be half seeing whaT's Changed in an old world and half exploring a new world. What's cooler than that?? Also, I haven't heard anyone else say it yet (although they may have), so I'm putting it out there that the "hyruglph link" (I know, I spelled it wrong) is related to th. Dark World's pyramid. We're getting a sequel to "everyone's favorite childhood game", and you guys still find things to complain about?? C'mon people!!!
