Re: Guide: Which Pokémon GO Companion Device Is Best - Pokémon GO Plus, Poké Ball Plus Or The Go-tcha?

KittyKatta

I love the Gotcha. But my problem with the Gotcha is that its "too fast" and too low a catch rate. On a typical jog I'll ue 150 redballs but only catch 50 pokemon. And since PokeStops aren't prioritized then most stops in my route don't even get spun.

I really wish there could be more customization in these auto-catch devices so you could whitelist/blacklist pokemon you dont really care about. (Yes, random catching is part of the game but Nantic keeps bringing back common pokemon to appease new/returning users so at this point spawns are so specifically targeted that nothing is "random" anymore).

Re: Niantic CEO Explains Just What Went Wrong At Chicago's Pokémon GO Fest

KittyKatta

@Shugo it really has everything to do with attitude. Sure, things didn't go as planned, they had a GREAT time because their primary reason for going wasn't "Stand in a chicken cage and catch Pokémon". They talked to people, experienced the game in another city and got to be part of a disastrous but unique event. And when the event ended and they got into the city then things were incredibly social and fun.

It really seems the people most angry and vindictive are people who didn't even attend.

Re: Pokémon GO Cheaters Get A Nasty Surprise In The Latest Update

KittyKatta

The reason I rarely play is because Niantic is the one cheating with their fake steps counters.

I'll do 2 mile jogs or walk 10 miles during a theme park day with the app on (and draining the heck out of my phone batt) and every time my Apple Watch or FitBit gives an accurate step count but PoGo gives me a kilometer or so. It's frustrating.

Re: Poll: Where Do You Currently Stand on ARMS and Splatoon 2

KittyKatta

Splatoon 2 = Full price for an inferior version of a game that came free on my WiiU

(I'm not really against Splatoon 2. I did test fire and it's... fine. But this isn't the controller that the game was designed for so it did feel more like a port than a sequel. Also, while portability justifies the port of MK8. I just don't have any desire to play Splatoon outside of a big TV so Splatoon 1 is good enough for me)

Re: Review: LEGO City: Undercover (Switch)

KittyKatta

THE FUTURE OF SWITCH GAMES... is old WiiU games.

Seriously though, Nintendo needs to find a way to get WiiU purchases transferred to Switch. Because its pretty difficult to justify rebuying old games for the full $50-60 pricetag (especially when you bought the WiiU version for $25-30).

Re: Guide: How to Farm Dragon Parts in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

KittyKatta

Gamespot really got me on that Ancient Key prank.

I hate April Fools stuff but I'm not mad at all because without the prank then I wouldnt have known about the third dragon and the Naydra mission. And so far, that has been the most satisfying "battle" of the game for me simply because I felt like such a hero by freeing that beautiful dragon.

Re: Poll: A Month of Nintendo Switch - Do You Think It's Heading for Success?

KittyKatta

I'm mot sure what to think. The 89% Attach rate for Zelda means that it's clearly a success with that one game. But the lack of interest in pretty much everything else means that for most this is pretty much a $400 Zelda machine.

I view the current state of the Switch to be in "Soft Launch". Zelda and the hardware were ready, but the ecosystem, partnerships and online are still way off. For what it is now then it's fine. But this system can't succeed based purely on hype and they need better titles than WiiU ports and classics to get the mass market.

Personally, Im getting worried because I'm not sure what I'm going to do once I finish Zelda. Mario Kart I already played on WiiU (and can't transfer saves) and Platoon was kinda worse on Switch than WiiU. So I have no idea what I have no "Next Game" for the Switch.

Re: Random: Princess Zelda's Voice Actor Had To Pay For Breath Of The Wild Just Like Everyone Else

KittyKatta

Nintendos marketing campaign for the Switch involved giving just about any low-subscriber unqualified YouTube channel a Switch and tons of accessories in favor of disgustingly biased reviews to increase the hype. But then didn't give the voice actors or employees free copies of the game?

So sad. Oh well. At least we got 900 identical Switch reviews that say the exact same press release lines about "Listen to that satisfying click" , "1-2 Switch is amazing" and "You can literally feel the marbles in the JoyCons".

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire on Nintendo Switch?

KittyKatta

People seem to be getting very angry here but I think that he argument on both sides are both valid.

This is a Port but it's not a Port.
Its a new game but it's still the same thing
This is for a new console but it's a lesser experience than the old console

Personally, I'm on the side that THIS IS A SEQUEL. It will offer a new 1 player campaign. It offers new local multiplayer options. And it has some gameplay improvements.

BUT... to me Splatoon was the crown jewel of the WiiU and if it doesn't offer much more beyond "New single player campaign then it may be a little too familiar to spend another $60 on.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire on Nintendo Switch?

KittyKatta

Any other WiiU players feel kinda bad for people playing Splatoon for the first time?

I played the WiiU version in between TrstFire sessions and was reminded of how perfect that game is. I think they did as good (great!) a job as they could in porting It to switch, but single screen is not the way Splatoon was designed to be played. So the experience of Switch players can't reach that of original WiiU players.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire on Nintendo Switch?

KittyKatta

I hate to be negative but Splatoon on Switch is INFERIOR to the WiiU because this isn't he hardware the game was designed for.

1) Gamepad + Splatoon = Intended Splatoon Design

2) Gamepad controller is more functional and comfortable. (Map. Secondary Sound. Wider grip.)

3) Portability adds little. While I love the hybrid concept, a 7" screen is crippling if you're fighting people on big TVs.

4) Cost. $60 for the game and now online play isn't free. That's a lot for existing WiiU players.

Overall Splatoon works on Switch and Nintendo did as great a job as possible. But single screen is not what this game was initially designed for so unfortunately it does feel like a port and a compromised experience.

Re: Nintendo Says There is No Design Issue Causing Left Joy-Con Connection Drops

KittyKatta

I have a pretty consistent Left JoyCon connection issue. I called it in right after Reggie said "Its not a big deal since nobody is reporting anything real". They offered to send it in next day air to "fix" it but said it's a 3week turnaround.

I didn't want to wait that long so I bought a 2nd pair of JoyCons and a Pro Controller. So it looks like Nintendo won again.

Re: Developer Survey Reveals Worrying Lack Of Interest In Nintendo Switch

KittyKatta

I've already made the same mistake I did for the Wii and WiiU where II impulsively bought into the Nintendo Accessory fever and may end up with more controllers than actual games.

With the Switch then I already have 4 JoyCons, a bunch of charging solutions, cases and a Pro Controller. But every time I look at the game schedule I keep wondering if I'll ever put all this gear to use or if it will all get filed away with my Wii and WiiU stuff.

Hopefully, IF Nintendo fails to deliver on games again then they'll at least go to their classics in some sort of emulator.

Re: Nintendo Switch Cloud Save Video Gets Hopes Up, But Is Apparently Debunked

KittyKatta

My conspiracy theory is that they are intentionally leaving out cloud saves and any form of transferable save in order to keep people from returning their Switch.

I know, thats crazy talk. But think about it.
If someone spent $5-600 ONLY to play Zelda and feel that there isn't another game they want on the schedule, then it isn't so crazy for someone to say "Hey. I'm almost done. Maybe I should get $500 back and return this and just buy again when the hardware gets revised or Holoday Bundles are released".

I don't condone people returning game systems like this. But if you know it's going to end up in a drawer or if your system is defective (like mine) then it does sink to have your save file burned in to a single system.

Re: "No Widespread Technical Problems" With Switch Joy-Cons, Claims Nintendo

KittyKatta

It's really sad to see people think they are doing Nintendo a service by shutting down legitimate complaints from their own fellow Nintendo Loyalists.

Think about it. Who exactly do you think is going to be more forgiving? The Nintendo Mega Fan that got the system on day one but ran into a problem or the casual indifferent user who gets their Switch in May.

The best thing Nintendo (and the fan base) can do right now is address the problem exists and fix it. Because if it gets swept under the rug or if these Nintendo Defenders succeed in minimizing the "whining" then it will just erupt even bigger when less-than-loyal Switch buyers run into even smaller issues.

Re: Here's Why Nintendo Switch Games Cost More Than Those For Other Consoles

KittyKatta

So... why don't digital downloads sell for cheaper then?

Game Cards are expensive. When a game like Zelda is on a 27GB cart then that makes sense. But if cart price is the issue then why charge so much for digital downloads?

  • Digital has no resale value
  • No physical manufacturing
  • Locked to user accounts

It seems it would benefit Nintendo to make digital significantly cheaper.

Re: "No Widespread Technical Problems" With Switch Joy-Cons, Claims Nintendo

KittyKatta

I wonder how many people use a Pro controller and don't know they suffer from the issue.

From what I've seen then everyone I know has encountered the left controller issue a few times (due to obstructions or distance or general randomness). It's not that big a deal because it eventually pairs itself but I kinda expected Nintendo to say they're working on it rather than dismiss affected users for not complaining loud enough.

Re: "No Widespread Technical Problems" With Switch Joy-Cons, Claims Nintendo

KittyKatta

The problem is real for me. But Zelda is so good that I just play through it (and save before every enemy battle).

I'd return my console completely except for one thing. Nintendo locks save files to the console.... what?!? No cloud storage like with iOS games? No memory card storage?!?! No cartridge storage?!?! So my dozens of Zelda hours are forfeit if I want a console that works?!?!? Aaaargh!!

Oh Nintendo. My love for Zelda is the only reason we're even acquaintances...

Re: First Impressions: 1-2-Switch is an Ideal Pack-In Game That's Missing Its Chance

KittyKatta

The biggest reason this should be a pack-in? Because 1-2 Switch should be on the hard drive.

The biggest (initial) appeal of the Switch is its portability. Take it to a friends house. Play it in the car. Sneak a game during lunch break. As much fun as A 100hr Zelda adventure may be, having a quick portable gaming session is going to convert a lot of people. But without the game being internal then most people won't see it and therefore will assume "My iPad is better for portable gaming".

Re: Pokémon GO Creator Niantic Taken To Court Over Beach Mobs

KittyKatta

I'm against Niantic when it comes to their response time to pioke locations.

Complaints range from "Get off my lawn" to "Get out of our protected wildlife preserve" and I think the entire range has a legitimate gripe. Like it or not, most people are jerks. And especially with a game like this then I've seen so much complete disrespect for boundaries and property.

People in the comments dismiss it as nothing but in the bigger picture then this kind of invasion is very short sighted and Niantic needs to have a better response team to handle complaints.

Re: Pokémon GO Has Lost 79 Percent of its Paying Population

KittyKatta

There are many reasons people quit. But I think the biggest reason is that the game stopped being fun and became a chore.

The turning point was that one update where they increased difficulty to such a degree that even catching a common Pidgey became a 10 Pokeball task. People would deplete inventory so quick that they'd have to start skipping certain Pokemon in fear of wasting balls, and eventually they skipped the game.

Re: Buddy Pokémon Confirmed by Niantic for Pokémon GO

KittyKatta

Giving users a choice in starter Pokemon never made sense because they were all so low CP that they were useless. So this would've been great to gradually level up our starters rather than giving it to that butcher Professor Willow who grinds them up and turns them into candy to turn you Pokemon into cannibals. (yes. That is exactly what happens when you trade in Pokemon)

Re: Build-A-Bear's Web Exclusive Eevee Plush Goes On Sale Early, Promptly Sells Out

KittyKatta

Ive always had a problem with Buuld-a-Bears that you can't put clothes on.

Yes, I know half the fun is building it yourself. But when it's a My Little Pony or a Finding Nemo or a Dragon then it always felt wrong because all you can do to customize it is awkwardly put on a cape. These don't feel like Build-a-Bears, these seem like regular plush dolls like you find at Walmart or a carnival. And now here's Eevee... wearing a cape (?!?!?).... For $62?!?

Don't get me wrong. I guess it's cute and all (despite being way darker than it should be) but for that much you could buy an import from the Pokemon Store in Japan and still have a lot of money left.

Re: Weirdness: Pokémon GO Triggers Massive Trainer Stampedes In Taiwan

KittyKatta

I'm very excited for Sun/Moon but I wish it was in development AFTER Pokemon Go came out.

SuMo (S&M?) looks great for old school players but it also looks like more of the same old formula we've had for years. PoGo may not even be a complete game yet but it does have some elements that would be nice to have incorporated into a traditional Pokemon game.

Re: Niantic Pushes Out a New Pokémon GO Update

KittyKatta

It's interesting that people are getting so few 10k eggs. I'm a Day 1 player and I've gotten at least 20 in the first month (where we played pretty heavily). Since the update trough I've received one.

I originally blamed the capture difficulty and 10k egg distribution as the game scaling to my higher ranking but I now travel with people who range from starters to Level 10s and they never get 10k eggs and have the same difficulty level in keeping low CP Pokemon from fleeing.

I'm not saying the game isn't good. I still play it a lot. I'm just saying that it's just not as fun when it feels like new rules were created to block users from "winning".

Re: Niantic Pushes Out a New Pokémon GO Update

KittyKatta

@aaronsullivan I say "unfairly" because it puts people who are leveling up now in a different boat than those who did it a few weeks ago.

For the month of July then:

- Pokemon were easier to catch

- less pokeballs were wasted

- iV on wild Pokemon were generally much higher

- 10k eggs were abundant

So someone grinding in July was able to reach level 20 fairly easy. But AFTER the August update then everything changed to slow down the advanced players but it actually stopped ALL users.

So the way it is now then the playing field isn't level. People who got in early are up to level 30 by now and those of us who played more casually at first have a much harder time to catch up. So that can be considered "unfair" (and the biggest reason many people gave up on PoGO)

Re: Niantic Pushes Out a New Pokémon GO Update

KittyKatta

Is that the same as the Pokemon iV calculator?

I've used that to determine which of my Pokemon are any good and I've discovered that almost all of my "Great" ones (75%+) are from before that infamous update where they crippled players and nerfed Vaporeon.

With an exponentially high escape ratio, decrease in wild rare Pokemon and making 10k eggs less common then it seems like Niantic is trying to slow down users unfairly. So it is odd that they would allow a calculator in-game that confirms how weak new let found Pokemon are in comparison to old ones.

Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools

KittyKatta

@Kit Seriously? You're going be snarky by pretending that you read the TOS?

And if by "rules" we are stating the ones written by Niantic in "How to play the game" then it says in there to use the footstep tracking in order to determine distance from the catch you are after. So.... you know. "Rules" are obviously flexible.

Tracking sites are escalation to problems introduced on Niantics side. While I don't agree completely with the Pokevision guys comments, he is correct in mentioning the incredible amount of patience users had during those first few weeks of login issues and all the growing pains Niantic went through. As users, we WANT to love the game.

Keep in mind that the thousand of people using Pokevision equals an incredibly tiny percentage of PGO users. So these "cheaters" that you are talking down to aren't actually the people who developed this ill-will towards Niantic. The negativity is coming from players who are noticing a negative change in the user experience. Difficulty increased. Pokeballs wasted. Characters nerfed. And blinders put on those so-called "cheaters" who simply wanted to accomplish this video games tagline and actually "Catch them All".

Anyone responding to this thread has an interest in the game. WE want to like it. So your attitude and blame is misdirected because the rules you claim to follow so closely don't seem to have any actual direction.

Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools

KittyKatta

What does "...play the game the right way" mean?

A lot of the Niantic defenders say "...the way the game is supposed to be played" as some sort of closing argument. But in a game where the reward is an sense of emotional satisfaction then is there really a "right" and "wrong" way to play Pokemon?

There's no physical prize for "Catching them All" (other than the benefit of physical activity) so if someone is out there in the streets looking for an elusive Pikachu then what exactly is "wrong" with wanting to find where the heck he really is by using a 3rd party helper? (rather than sneaking into someones yard)

Pokemon Go is successful because its a fun activity. But trying to dictate "right" and "wrong" ways to play takes the fun out of it and turns it into a chore.

Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools

KittyKatta

The two worst parts of the original Pokemon Game. Finding Pokemon and Catching Pokemon.

1) Finding Pokemon - When you're 10 years old then endlessly walking through grass for hours until you find a worthwhile catch was tiring but accepted as part of the game. And lets be honest, what else did you have to do that week? But as cellphone carrying users (which means age 18 to 81) then hell yes we have things to do. So being impatient in finding EXACTLY where our next catch may be hiding is essential to long-term enjoyment. We simply don't have time to wander across REAL neighborhoods looking for a VIRTUAL Squirtle. So Pokefinder lessened that problem.

2) Catching Pokemon - Hearing that click of capture triggers such a satisfying emotional response. I got him! Fist Pump! But that emotion of accomplishment is replaced by anger because Niantic has increased the capture failure percentage by 95,000%. Instead of an "Easy" catch using 2 or 3 pokeballs then we're now wasting 10-12 great balls on low CP characters and having rare ones run away.

The game is broken because Niantic doesn't understand what makes the game fun.

Re: Nintendo Clarifies Reasoning for Pokémon GO Plus Release Delay

KittyKatta

@nickoftime90 it may not be a great game but it is a very fun experience.

The success of PGO was the perfect storm of weather, summer vacation and a dry gaming industry. It's new, interesting, social and promotes physical activity. Also, it appeals to both casuals and obsessive collectors so it's a wide audience.

I understand that overexposure from the media can make PGO news annoying but let's be honest, not much is going on in gaming.
