@EaglyBird Sony is much more aligned with Microsoft in this regard than a potential victim of them. Nintendo would never sell to MS if they didn't sell to Sony already.
Hard, hard, hard disagree. Nintendo has typically followed N+1 for all of their consoles except for major switches in media formats. This is a scenario where it will be beyond unacceptable - coming off of a platform that had us rebuying games from the previous generation to have next generation updates to them. This generation should improve performance of the older games, and obviously, be able to play them. Going forward, all consoles will be this way.
@OldGamer999 Add that library size to what you ALSO have on Switch and PS5. That's where MS belongs in my gaming landscape, it's the filler around the exclusives the other guys have.
I cannot stand Bethesda RPG's of any kind so that's a bad example. Doom and Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein, the occasional game like Hi-Fi Rush, that's what I look forward to from them. I love Nintendo and some Sony exclusives but Nintendo's hardware isn't the best for graphics heavy games and Sony's controllers are not what I would prefer for a serious FPS game - not to mention, the Xbox usually has the slight edge when it comes to power...and with third party games being so inefficient cross platform, it usually makes sense to pick up on Xbox if it's not already on Game Pass.
@OldGamer999 There’s nothing average about Bethesda and Activision. I think you underestimate the size of the library and what can be offered with Game Pass. The PS5 has maybe 2 exclusives a year that I play, Switch, Xbox, and PC are what I’m playing most of the time.
@OldGamer999 I don't think you'll ever see those types of games from MS anymore. They will be the go to platform for multiplatform games and have all the big Bethesda/Activision stuff.
@OldGamer999 Obviously they bought these companies because their exclusives and lack of studios were weak. These aren't excuses, this is the reality of it all. Phil here was willing to take the blame for Redfall, but that doesn't mean it's his fault.
@OldGamer999 Anything coming out of Bethesda has still hardly had any Xbox interference as far as development goes. When the dust settles, then you can start pointing fingers - but this game wasn't even exclusively developed for Microsoft's platforms until the near end.
@Vertigoat When people bring up polish, they're not just referring to the game running smoothly and looking great. Talent trees and progression systems have been added as well.
I have never been a huge fan of the Pikmin games, I played through 1 and 2 back when they released, but barely even touched 3. But, I went back to play them all before this release...and was kind of ho hum about playing yet another one. However, I completely changed my mind - this makes the last three seem like tech demos. It is fully fleshed out, with multiple modes of play in the campaign alone. Now, I really want this franchise to keep going.
@Maxz Likewise, a good way to comprehend what you're reading is to not read everything from a perceived position of authority with intent to insult someone's intelligence. It's clearly an issue for you.
@Maxz Clearly not comprehending what is being said. Nobody is upset, no feelings are hurt. It's a disservice to what might be a great game to just slap a 10 on it...the article even calls out that giving it a 10 is a risky move. If you gave my all time favorite game a 10, I would still be very skeptical.
@Maxz Uh huh, it makes impressively little sense to you from a perspective that completely ignores this being a published review from a professional reviewer.
I’ll make it simple, the score is so off putting for a game of this scope that I don’t even want to research further out of sheer offense.
@HotGoomba The "good guys" in this situation would definitely be the one listed in the top 10 places to work in the entire world many, many times over. A corporate culture like Microsoft's is non-existent in the video game industry...a subscription model like Microsoft's means more "funny money", which leaves more room for experimentation and games that don't rake in cash every time someone plays them. From virtually every perspective, these studios should want to be under Microsoft and we as gamers should want Activision to be gone.
@EarthboundBenjy I haven't liked FE since the GBA games really, I do not enjoy all the extraneous crap. If a new Advance Wars arrives, it better not add that stuff.
@PinderSchloss Also, whomever told you Monolith made a significant part of Breath of the Wild was lying. They were given a role to design landscapes and topography, they did no coding on the game whatsoever. They didn't write the story, they didn't create the game mechanics, they didn't build the engine. Exactly how significant of a role do you really think they played?
@PinderSchloss Maybe you missed out on the news but Nintendo has its own animation studio.
"Nintendo announced their intent to acquire Dynamo Pictures and change its name to Nintendo Pictures on July 14, 2022, citing the focus of the company to strengthen the planning and production structure of visual content. The deal closed on October 3, with the company becoming a full subsidiary of Nintendo, as well as adopting its new name."
@garfreek You think putting work into things that are no longer on the market doesn't show that they care about their products? They still care that you bought it, and they are continuing to give you support beyond what anyone else would.
It's certainly still possible to access these games, as the vast majority of them are physical releases.
As for things like button mapping, it's probably not a priority but at least you get it on the switch. Nintendo is converging on one final online platform, finally, so consider this a parting gift for the old.
@Cia I'm totally with you but movies at 24 fps always had "motion blur", the frames contained the image and the blur of the movement. 60 fps in movies is jarring, but that doesn't really apply to games so much. A third person game at 30 fps is absolutely fine, depending on how fast the camera moves.
@KoopaTheGamer It's true, who knows, and does it even matter? You know the rules when you're streaming Nintendo properties - and claiming this had no Nintendo assets is ridiculous. The guy is using the game's title in the video title... Nintendo views their game content the way Hollywood does a movie. Like it or not, at least realize it.
@Williamfuchs420 League of Legends (DOTA) was allowed by Blizzard, calling a custom map a "mod" is really stretching it. Modding is fine, many games include tools for it. But they aren't typically set top box games and they aren't done to a company whose IP is on the level of Disney.
BTW, Blizzard wasn't happy with how Valve took their assets to make DOTA 2 and briefly complained. Then they changed their TOS to say that all custom maps are property of Blizzard going forward.
@glennjohn22 Nobody uses hall effect in current consoles controllers because they released so long ago. Yes, hall effect sensors have existed in other applications but they are a solution to a current problem.
@Debo626 What kind of company do you think Nintendo is? None of the claims you make fit the context of a quality hardware producer like them. Do you think the RROD also happened to 360s before Microsoft launched?
I'm not being combative, you are simply being unreasonable.
Nintendo did not create the portion of the sticks that is going bad. It's an industry standard and Nintendo does not own the patent. It's a part of their product that has been installed in controllers going back decades but it seems they can't handle the wear and tear that a handheld has, unexpectedly.
I didn't realize using the word "hell" meant I was starting a flame war with you...
@Debo626 The issue with the joycons, as with all of these types of sticks, has to do with wear and tear. These issues did not appear outside of the norm in testing, which is why Nintendo shipped them. This company has traditionally had the most solidly built consoles and handhelds out there, it's not something they just overlooked. What in the hell are you expecting here, for Nintendo to send a white glove service to your house? If you can't print it, you go to the UPS store and have them scan the code and they'll print one out for you. They're repairing these outside of warranty to make things right.
As for the early days, no company should ever open up the doors to legal liability until they're 100% sure they're at fault. Show me the company that does this and still exists, I'll wait.
@Debo626 If you go to the site and enter a repair, they provide a shipping label. As far as I know, it's always been that way, since long before the Switch even. Sure, improvements to make like making a new system entirely. This was an issue they didn't catch until too late - it's a shame for everyone involved. Nintendo doesn't want unhappy customers. And Nintendo didn't create or champion this style of joystick. It wasn't a matter of cheaping out on poor materials, so it's hard for me to point fingers.
@Switch_Pro It's really not the point of the Pocket...which is why it has a developer studio built into it. One of the major selling points of this console was the additional FPGA for development. Having a cartridge in this scenario is really pointless anyway, the ROM is not being emulated.
@Unapologetic No need for mental gymnastics. I was a contractor for 20 years, you should NEVER ask your CUSTOMER (Nintendo) a question like this. It was his contracting company that fired him, not Nintendo, and that's because it put his company in an awkward position.
As for yourself, you seem to have the most cliche comment in the entire thread.
@sword_9mm Yeah, I can totally understand being fine with emulation - just that FPGA lends itself to a different game type more than it does for someone looking to be super serious about games. Games that require reaction time would primarily be fighting games, shooters, some platformers, but not everything. Nintendo's stuff tends to be more forgiving because it was already polished to death and can handle a few ms here or there of input lag.
@Coalescence FPGA isn't even popular enough for marketing hype yet. It's not emulation as there is no emulation layer, this is 1:1 logical recreation, not emulation. Hardware emulation would be a chip designed to create an emulation layer, not a chip designed to replicate the logic of the original chip. Something along the lines of a video decoder - not what the FPGA is doing.
And literally none of those software emulation portables can replicate these games respectably enough to compare. For the pocket to be overrated, you'd first have to rate it beyond what it is, which I don't see anyone doing.
@sword_9mm I think it's a mistake to assume you'd want FPGA's advantages just to play "professionally". These older games are typically built for twitch reflexes, pixel perfect jump timings, are more difficult, and in some cases made around hitting the limits of the CPU to slow down (shooters especially).
It's definitely a feel thing, if you played any of these games on original hardware then played them with emulation, you'd feel the sluggishness of it. Some games are practically unplayable.

@OldGamer999 It's nearly impossible to be lazy at Microsoft. The constant push, churn, review, change, etc. don't allow for that.
My best guess is that most of those studios are empty. That employees have left or been laid off and not replaced.
