@topsekret Also, using ASTC compression is efficient up to a point, as heavy use can reduce the overall quality of the game, especially in textures, lighting, and even causing shimmering. Not to mention, the game has higher assets than XII, multiple voice lines uncompressed in different languages, and detailed particle shaders.
@topsekret Because the game is already priced at $39.99 instead of $70 and putting it on a Game Card would've cut in $16 each copy? Also, again, you're forgetting that VII Remake Intergrade still uses unique assets, which fill in file size, even with compression, the game on PS5 is almost 100gbs, they got it down to 87.9gbs on Switch 2 while on Steam it's also 100gbs.
@topsekret Your talking about the original Final Fantasy VII Remake, the one on Switch 2 is the Integrade version, which brings in the graphical enhancements SIMILAR to PS5, as even Digital Foundry stated it looks better than the PS4 version on Switch 2, as well as the Yuffie DLC which was made exclusively for the PS5 at the time and took advantage of SSD speeds to avoid the loading tunnels seen in the base game due to hard drive speed constraints and could handle loading in an entire level.
@Vyacheslav333 Not sure where you got that figure when even the Digital Premium edition is $90 and the Expansion Pass on other platforms is $34.99, with the base game being $59.99, that amounts to about $95.
@OrtadragoonX That's why I enjoyed Rebirth more personally, I know there was an overexcess of minigames, but the exploration, minus Gongaga, was quite fun and rewarding for me personally.
@Whyarewestillhere Handhelds in the same price point as the Switch 2 aren't reaching the performance of a PS5. The last generation of consoles were the Xbox One and PS4, which handhelds will be in due to their size and affordability. If you want a handheld closer to PS5, it'll cost double the price of a Switch 2 most likely or even triple, and will have considerably less battery life playing those titles.
@Whyarewestillhere It's a handheld console. Handhelds will always be a generation behind for consumers, while PC handhelds might close the gap, but it's not without being extremely expensive for consumers.
@MasterGraveheart It probably won't be on the game card due to the max size being 64gbs and the game being over 100gbs due to using unique assets for each of its areas, it wouldn't be without major compromises to cut down at least 36gbs.
@VoidofLight Which isn't the blonde people think of for Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword isn't blonde in the traditional sense either as it's darker.
@Abrammchi There are no clear signs of recessions. I am not clueless, especially considering my knowledge comes from years of economics at the graduate level and through monitoring.
@Abrammchi First off, unless you deeply understand economics, especially macro economics, you would understand that while there are concerns due to tariffs, at least for the United States, for the time being, there's no clear indication of a recession. Secondly, it's much cheaper to develop a handheld version of a Switch 2, similar to Switch Lite, hence why Nintendo did it, among the other reason that data straight from Nintendo shows users prefer handheld mode a lot more than docked mode. Thirdly, Nintendo will not fall back on the Switch 1. They've clarified that the Switch 1 holds them back on their ideas with Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, hence why they went with Switch 2. They're not going back on 8 year old tech. I'm thinking they're betting on what the rest of the industry is heading towards, starting with the PS5 Pro. $600-$700 consoles being the standard for PS6 and the next Xbox. That in itself would make the Switch 2's $450 price tag much more appealing to consumers and is what helped draw in so many consumers during the beginning of the Switch era, by undercutting the competition. The next PlayStation or Xbox will most likely not go back to $500, it'll be priced higher, making the Switch 2 a steal to consumers' eyes in terms of video game consoles.
@Flapflop A dual release wouldn't have been possible, they mentioned the game didn't run as smoothly on Switch and that they had to abandon certain ideas due to the limited performance.
@Abrammchi The Switch was supported for eight years. That's an extremely long time. The Switch 2 needs exclusives so that the console has a future and a reason for consumers to buy them, not to mention those who buy the Switch 2 need games that take full advantage of the hardware.
@DarkTron I even heard at the time Genki bragging about how there were Switch 2 units out in the wild and correct me if I'm wrong, but even how they might have one of their own.
@Fulgor_Astral As much as I would've, I would rather Nintendo not be forced to innovate, as that can lead to terrible mistakes, i.e., Virtual Boy and Wii U, and instead improve upon the Switch itself. However, they may continue to innovate with the console in other ways. The DS and 3DS looked similar, but the 3DS was innovative in its way as well.
@Yoshif3 We won't have Zelda back to form just because it may lose awards. The game already almost got perfect scores by reviewers and is considered the fastest-selling Nintendo game of all time.
@Itachi2099 @Itachi2099 I would agree as Final Fantasy did start on Nintendo, but Sony and Square has been close since VII. Sony’s the reason VII exists. If you actually read on their relationship back then, Nintendo exerted tight control over their games. Back in the 90s, they literally had to release games with bugs or cut out multiple parts of it because Nintendo refused to let them use bigger-sized cartridges. Sony on the other hand, gave them funding on the marketing and development on VII. You can actually look up the Senior Vice President of Nintendo saying this about VII, “Most of our customers wouldn’t want or appreciate such a slow and tedious game such as Final Fantasy VII.” So, while it did start on Nintendo, Nintendo screwed up their relationship with Square.
@SeantheDon29 That's the same thing for the Virtual Console. If you forget to redownload it after the servers shut down, you lost it forever. Granted, they're keeping the servers open for redownload, but who knows for how long?
I don't understand people's frustration. If you see the gameplay videos, this requires only a few Zonai Charges. Which constructs drop a couple upon defeat and they seem to be the common enemies in the sky islands, like how bokoblins are in the ground. Not to mention, it gives you a lot more than what Xenoblade 2 gave you to the point you only need to do this once or twice.
@Serpenterror This wasn't developed by Hylians, they seem to be developed by the Zonai. Age of Calamity and Breath of the Wild aren't in the same timeline.
@Cia No, the official Nintendo site has confirmed this takes place before the events of Xenoblade 3. So, it won't contradict or change the ending of the main story.
@PinderSchloss Games back in 1999 weren't as expansive and expensive to make as now. You do realize this is probably Nintendo's most expensive game ever made right? Nintendo is very critical of Zelda and it has been shown time and time again especially with the multiple delays of Breath of the Wild. They are hiding a lot and I mean a lot about this game. The fact that it has taken them over 5 years to make this game shows that much.
@Browny They probably won't do that as they feel confident people would buy the game without one. I would like one personally as well, just don't see it happening.
@BLD Transferring Pokemon over right from the get-go sounds unfair to those who play Scarlet and Violet as their first game. There does need to be a balance, just transferring most of the Pokemon from the Pokedex from the start of the game ruins the fun. It ruins the exploration because there would be no need to. These games are explorable because of the different Pokemon. Without the need to do so, there would be no reason to do so. There would be no reward.
@Jmjfrank This game is actually a lot easier than the first one. Leveling up is a lot quicker and easier. Battles are also more streamlined. There's even a fast-forward ability for battles that doesn't make it too fast, but just fast enough.
@Ralizah According to a former Nintendo employee, the reason this time is because they know that Breath of the Wild has become somewhat of a household name, that a sequel will market itself. That they feel they don't need to promote it as much as the original. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzZX6kEG0l8 Around the 35 mins mark.
@blockfight What about the cross-gen versions? Why is one version $60 and the other $70? When it's mostly a graphical update? On PC you can upgrade the graphics on the settings of the game provided the PC can support it for free. In terms of the DualSense's controller features, that should be natural for a game company to support the latest and unique features of each console, which wasn't something they charged for in the past. For cross-gen versions, I don't believe there's any justification to increase the price to $70 as this wasn't done in the past with past cross-gen games. New games on the next gen consoles, however, can be considered $70.

Re: Review: Persona 3 Reload (Switch 2) - A Great Remake, But Still Not Definitive
@fenlix The PS4 cannot run Outlaws as the engine behind it uses ray-tracing and the hard drive is too slow for the game in terms of asset streaming.

@topsekret Also, using ASTC compression is efficient up to a point, as heavy use can reduce the overall quality of the game, especially in textures, lighting, and even causing shimmering. Re: Atlus Rules Out Persona 3 Reload Switch Port
@topsekret You do realize that for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the issue wasn't the read speeds, but the actual size of the game itself? Which wasn't fully compressed as the developers have stated in the past they wanted to use more unique assets. Not to move the goal post, but just wanted to clarify that.
https://www.ign.com/articles/final-fantasy-7-remakes-file-size-is-100-gb-because-devs-wanted-to-build-so-many-unique-assets
Re: Atlus Rules Out Persona 3 Reload Switch Port
@topsekret Without potential stuttering, texture loading issues, and significantly longer loading times that some players report up to 40 seconds.

@Whyarewestillhere If the Steam Deck which is comparable to a PS4 in almost every way couldn't run it, then the PS4 couldn't either.
Re: "The Best-Looking Thing I've Seen On Switch 2" - Digital Foundry Talks Final Fantasy 7 Remake
@Whyarewestillhere They couldn't as Outlaws is an open-world title that is a lot more demanding than Jedi Survivor which isn't open-world.
