Yuji Naka, who you'll no doubt know as the lead programmer on the original Sonic the Hedgehog games, has revealed that he is working on an "original action game" at Square Enix.

The Sonic creator joined Square Enix in January 2018; at the time, he said that he wished to "develop an enjoyable game" without sharing any further details.

In a new message posted to his social media channels this morning, in which he thanked fans for congratulating him on his 54th birthday, Naka-san refers to an "original action game" that is currently being made at Square Enix. Here's the full message:

"Thank you for your birthday message. Today I'm 54 years old. How many games will I be able to make by the retirement age, including the original action game that I'm currently making at Square Enix? I'd like to work hard to develop a game that everyone around the world can enjoy."

Naturally, at this stage, it's impossible to know exactly how such a game might take shape, but we're sure you'll agree that the whole situation is rather exciting.
