I mainly play these newer Paper Mario games for the atmosphere and the dialogue. So this game is right up my alley. However, I’m really bummed for my fellow, old head gamers who wanted some more RPG meat on this game. Hopefully Nintendo will bring back to life Mario and Luigi, and give us a proper RPG.
day one purchase for me (unless nintendo releases a sweeter looking switch pro with bluetooth and a slightly more powerful processor for better framerates), but all in all, the series x looks sexy as all hell.
been playing Dragon Quest 11 for the last couple of weeks. The story and writing are not something to write home about, not awful (looking at you Octopath traveler), but not Witcher quality either. Love its sense of adventure and the gameplay tho. Plus, it performs incredibly well on the switch. I’m so glad i put down the PC version when I found out there was a switch version coming out. More people should try it out
seems like I’ll be playing astral chain then. Just got my copy of Fire Emblem, but seeing how everybody loves Astral C, how well it performs on the hardware considering its limitations (Digital Foundry video), and it being shorter (15h) than FE, i’ll start with it.
@Lizuka i guess each to their own. I’ve put more than 200 hours into RD2, got the 100% achievment, and I’m taking a break now. I understand your pov, it seemed too slow and all that initially, but around the 50h mark something just clicked for me. Going back to the witcher 3 or botw seemed odd. the games just feel empty and lifeless in comparison to rd2 (botw less than the witcher3, which makes up for the lifeless world with the best voice acting direction ever). If i had to sum it up, it would be like this
Red dead 2 - best looking game of this gen, best flora and fauna BotW- best environment interraction, best cooking in a video game ever TW3 - best voice acting, best script Nier Automata - best concept and original score
I know it’s an exaggeration, but I’d rather wait another 3 years, lets say, for games that i love, like animal crossing or cyberpunk, than have them early and filled with bugs or incomplete.
The demo was ok, though the writing was bland, lacking anything to keep me invested:( It’s really nice that they’ve addressed some issues, too bad they didn’t rewrite the story and characters
@geox30 LA noire has an amazing story (around 20h or so if i'm not mistaken) and intriguing characters. It's not your typical rockstar game, i played it when it came out on the ps3 and i was surprised by the lack of action/shooting sequences, by comparison to gta 4. Solving cases on the other hand felt rewarding, and they really do test your atention to detail and your patience.
Skyrim on the other hand is a game which i never got 100% into. I've purchased it twice and clocked 30h on the ps3 and 40h on pc, but i never finished it. Unlike, let's say, Breath of the Wild, skyrim does a terrible job at explaining the mechanics and the crafting system. It's fun though due to the random s*** that can occur at any time. one minute you re ambushed by a mob of wizards, then suddenly a giant appears and kicks eeveryone's a** Have fun, either game is a good choice.
PS From what i can see, there s a lack of marketing for the Switch version of LA noir. Skyrim reviews are popping left and right, wereas there are bearly 4 reviews for la noir
DK Tropical Freeze is in my opinion one of the most overlooked Wii U titles. Platforming perfection and a soundtrack that brings tears to my eyes. I would love to see it making its way to the Switch where it could find the appreciation that it deserves.
A new DK game however, would be even better. In 3D. With mltiple playable characters. An open world with lush jungles and abandoned factories on top of mountains. And vehicles, like mine carts and mini airplanes. And the option to grow your own bananas!!! Ok, I'm getting a little bit carried away.
My opinion regarding fifa 18 on the switch so far:
I’ve been playing the fifa series since 2004. Despite having the 2004 game on the Pc, I always found myself playing it on the GBA, due to the portability factor. It was miles beyond the pc version, but the gameplay was solid and the “championship mode”, although lacking the depth of the pc version, kept me hooked for tens of hours.
Today, after over a decade, i ve played the new portable version of fifa on a nintendo console. It damn well ROCKS, and here’s why:
-60 fps with no noticeable drops. As much as i like to hate on EA for their business practices, i understand the lack of frostbite and game modes. The game runs butter smooth.
-player animations are buttery smooth. This is not fifa 16 or 17 for a portable device, but fifa 18 with not so good graphics, BUT
-despite the not so good graphics, the game looks amazing on the switch screen. This looks like the fifa game i ve always dreamt to have on a portable
-you can DAB!!!!!!!
-menus are faster than fifa 17 on the xbox one. This might change with time, but for now, it all runs flawlessly.
-Despite having not tried it, i ve read there s no online play with friends. That s a minus, hopefully they ll patch it
All in all, amazing game. yes, it lacks features, but let s judge it for what it is: an amazing 60 fps game on a portable console, a machine a fraction of the size of an xbox or playstation.
People seem to forget that, in order for the switch to be popular, the console needs popular AAA games like Destiny. It's not about about what YOU, as a Nintendo player, want to play, it's about what the mass of people that doesn't own a Switch wants to play. It's in Nintendo's interest to sell consoles after all.
Yes, Nintendo makes great games. But I can't believe the fanbase respects a company that pulled off that nes mini stunt, and now people have to buy a glorified emulation box on ebay at twice the initial price. You guys deserve to be scalped.
@Drummertist It's baffling that people still find excuses for Nintendo. It's in the company's interest to sell the consoles, not the other way around.
Nintendo's general ideology is weird, and I can't see how on earth people still defend this company. Yes, they DO produce great, polished games, however the lack of respect for the general consumer, and most of all, for its loyal fan base is staggering.
Another sneaky move on Nintendo's behalf. They're just creating false demand, by announcing there's a limited quantity of consoles. In consequence, people who were previously on the fence whether to buy one or not, preorder it now. Shame on you Nintendo.
Don't panic people, there will be enough Switches for everyone
"Specs don't matter" is just more Nintendo propaganda. They DO matter. Better specs - better performance - better frame rate - better gameplay experience. Also, no specs, no 3rd party support.
Oh, Wii U had 3rd party support, you say? All I see are older games (they were 2-3 years old when the Wii U came out, they're ancient now), which even today remain unsold in the barren Wii U section, because the Ps3, 360 and PC versions were superior. Specs matter, in order to remain relevant and competitive.
HOWEVER, what people seem to omit is that the Switch is a PORTABLE. The smaller the console, the harder it is to cram components into it. Those components also need air flow and ventilation to keep working at high processing speeds. And then there's the battery life, which needs to be decent for the Switch to even be considered a "portable" handheld. This means that it needs lower specs to keep power consumption at a minimum.
People expect Scorpio performances from something that costs half/ a third of a gaming tablet, and a fifth of a decent gaming laptop. Get your minds strait people! If it's graphics and smooth frame rates that you want, give Nintendo a reason to build 700$ machines, or get a gaming PC.
now just imagine for a second that the wii u had the power of a ps 4---current nintendo games+3rd party games=overkill. they could have been both cool AND nintendo. they chose the easy route, with old rusty specs and an expensive tablet. im not in the position to judge nintendo, but i feel they are afraid to expand. as opposed to other companies, they do not have hundreds of people working on just one game, their teams are small. thats why we dont get enough games on the U. i have respect nin for their games, but other than that i think they are a bunch of greedy ppl, they are a company afterall
Don't wanna be a troll or anything, but these question poles on Nintendo Life are a joke. Only people interested in Nintendo enter the site and take their time to check the articles and answer the questions, so all answers regarding feedback towards nintendo will be 90% positive. There is nothing besides Smash that could sell consoles in 2014. I am worried for N.
reasons why the wii u will surely not have 3rd party rpgs, at least for now: 1. expensive to develop in comparison to the 3ds 2. not many wii us in home 3. in japan ppl prefer rpgs on a handheld simple maths: why spend tons of money and sell a maximum of 2 mil copies when u can spend 1/4 of the money for a 3ds release and sell 4-5 mil copies at the cost of earning 5-8€ less per sale..
haha, check this out! in Romania we already have som1 who sells wii u mario kart 8 bundles, and we've been having him for 1 and 1/2 weeks now on a website. he is a private seller. weird
I bought my wii u BECAUSE of youtube users posting let's play videos!!! i chose their console because of those people's videos!!! i would have bought an xbone to play forza, but after watching videos of dktf and sm3dw or wwhd, i changed my mind! doesn't nintendo aknowledge that those types of videos are in fact free adds?! the difference between movies and games is that just by watching the let's play you dont get the full experience, you need to buy it, and play it for yourself. its not like nintendo is doing bad games, and these users have a negative effect on the potential costumers, on the contrary, they repeatedly say through out the lets play positive aspects about the game, thus encouraging people to buy the game!
