No favorite yet but I'm going to play the demo soon and maybe I'll have one then!
It's not everyday a modern JRPG manages to stand up to the old SNES/PS1 classics, back when the genre was at its strongest, but I think this game did it. I really enjoyed my time with it.
This game is a gem. I love it.
I am a bit sad neither went for my favorite character: Sylvando. Seriously, I think he is the true hero of the whole game!
But man, this game is so beefy... I “finished” the game but nowhere near truly finishing it! Never expected post-end-game content to also have cut scenes, voice acting and actual plot progression! I just won’t be done in time to play Pokémon when it arrives on my mailbox tomorrow.
Btw, now I wish so much they do a DQ3 remake!
DQ11 is such a masterpiece. I knew it would be good since this game got praised a lot when it launched on PC/PS4 but I didn't expect it to be this good.
My favourite character is Sylvando. I was expecting him to be obnoxious but it turns out he is one of the most likeable characters in any game I have ever played. There's a certain sequence featuring him at the start of Act 2 that put such a massive smile on my face during the whole thing
Jade is queen
I accept no objections
Gemma is adorable. I don’t know how he keeps producing at this level but Akira Toriyama is so good at visual character design. Even the side characters manage to pop with the scenery
I'm totally gaybones for Erik but Slyvando is def a highly entertaining character. Top notch entry all around finished the game and "post game" (really just a part 3) with 92 hours clocked. Didn't yet finish up the tockington quests, tho.
As a whole, Erik and Hendrik all the way.
And yes, this game is just a masterpiece. As the review says, if you like RPGs, do yourself a favour and get it whenever you can.
Hero is my favourite character
Said no one ever!
DQ11S was the best game to come out for Switch in 2019 IMO. I absolutely loved it and can't recommend it enough. A 10 out 10 in my book. As characters go Veronica was my favorite as her sarcastic attitude made me LOL a couple of times.
@Expa0
We really need that era back
@Edelgard
Coming from someone that started a war...
One of the few games I don’t regret buying full price.
Just binged the game through its final story contents (before Pokemon releases) and I've enjoyed every second of the 120 hours I played. I encourage those to play through the "post" content because the story really wraps up nicely (not to mention the challenging battles) and gives a more satisfying farewell to the friends you've made throughout the adventure. There's still the Tickington content I have not played through and I hope to return to it someday.
My favorite character would have to be Serena. Didn't like her at first, but totally fell in love with her in the second act. Enjoyed her character growth and development throughout the game and an awesome support character in battles.
I just rolled credits on act 2 last week. It’s such a great game, but I took a little time off to play Luigi’s Mansion before I tackle act 3. Looking forward to it.
Oh my gosh people actually like Sylvando? I cannot stand him, he ruined the game for me. He has way too large of a role in my opinion. I love the rest of the characters but ugh I hated every second of hearing Sylvando's voice. Its not funny, its just annoying to me.
Jade and Veronica here
@ILikeStake
I actually got to like him with time. But yes, the game could have done without his comic relief. I am coming darling, lmao.
The mardi garb thing was just silly.
@BeefSanta This is my third (of four) times playing the game. I dropped 398 hours into the Japanese 3DS version (mostly grinding for rare drops, because I didn't know that one of the Pep Powers forced rare drops), 190 in the PS4 version, and I'm 80 hours into the Switch 3D version (after which I'll tackle the 2D version).
It's a labor of love.
@Edelgard that's because his looks is generic... people aren't really attracted to that look in the way like in the past games and I agree. Just don't feel it
Erik and Veronica are definitely my favorite. I love their charecter and accents. But if I had to pick one, erik.
Sylvando is definitely the best character.
Favorite for me is Jade best girl, and least favorite was Sylvando.
@ILikeStake booooooooo 👎
@dougphisig Jade is so boring and nothing but fanservice. I want to like her but outside of wanting to have helped the hero more like what else does SHE want? At least Slyvando wanted to make the world a more entertained place, be a performer like his mother, make his father proud as a knight-like hero, help save the world, and teach others and be a performer. I dunno what Jade wants other than maybe a super supportive bra and to make sure the male lead is ok.
I want to love her but she was the gist of bunny girl jokes and she didn't have more of her own dreams and desires. She deserved better.
@Kirby_Girl
SPOILERS
I liked Jade's story arc. Don't want to spoil too much, but my perspective is that she wants to rebuild her relationship with her father and rule as Queen of Heliodor, but wouldn't know how after being away from the Kingdom and in hiding most of her life.
I also liked the big sister dynamic with the hero and her mother relationship with Eleanor since she herself has no siblings and grew up with no mother.
Thank you for creating a wonderful game! Dragon Quest XI is now in my top favourite 10 games of all time. It was my first foray into the Dragon Quest world and I was blown away. Just hearing the music in this interview gives me joy and a bright smile. I'm saving the Switch version for a year or two down the road when I want to revisit this classic. Amazing game.
@Kirby_Girl I just didn't like Sylvando's overly flamboyent personality personally, he was my least favorite character by a lot. I only used him when I had to pretty much . @shining_nexus I also agree in enjoying Jade's arc.
I wanted to finish before Pokemon but since I haven’t been able to have enough time to I am holding of on Pokemon for a week.
Currently 65 hours in and loving it. Easily the best game I have played this year.
One of the very best games I ever played.
My game of the year and I don't even do JRPGs. Something about it intrigued me when they let slip it was coming to the NX all that time ago but then it got delayed. I spent over 140 hours in there before beating the final boss and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. I didn't finish everything but the main story is complete.
Favourite character? Hard to say as they all had great highs and lows in the game. Probably the Grey Gordon. That was funny.
When I played the game, I always like to meta-envision high levels of diversity, especially with games like this where everyone is (yetch) white. So for me EVERY character was gay. To that end, Sylvando was the clearly best of them all.
@ILikeStake To quote Sylvando: "Honey, you have no taste."
I loved the whole cast personally. Sylvando was legitimately amazing. If he were nothing but attempts at comic relief, I'd find him bad.
But he's a deeper character than that.
The likable characters are what made this game so good. The main plot was pretty meh, but characters like Sylvando (especially the with the English dub) just make the game a treat.
My favorite character from dragon quest 11 is sexy jade.
Erik is my favorite, he had the charisma and moxie to lead his own game. Which is rumored to in fact be in the works.
@Kirby_Girl Jade is minor fan service compared to Jessica in DQ8 , the truly voluptuous waifu. <3
@WiltonRoots have you considered playing the rest of the series? DQ 1-3 are very old but you can treat them as a trip to museum - boring but kind of fun. XD
DQ 4-6 NDS remakes are old, too but much more fun and still hold up very well thanks to the brilliant writing!
And DQ 7-9 on 3DS/DS are just so much fun. I doubt these will ever age.
Then there's also the spin-offs (DQ Builders 1-2, Heroes 1-2 and Monsters Joker).
@Shonenmon thanks I should look into those! I can’t believe I’ve overlooked this series so long. I do get the impression there could be a reimagining of DQ3 off the back of this game though. We can only hope.
@Mrillustrates yep he was a very loyal friend throughout the game. Another character had a brilliant character arc in acts 2 and 3, I don’t want to mention their name for spoiler reasons but their loyalty was amazing. That was probably my favourite companion in the game.
@Patron I choose Erik as my life partner. I pretty much did the same as you. Hendrik and Sylvando and Jade and Serena
@WiltonRoots yeah!
