Re: Soapbox: Endless Zelda Remakes Are A Poor Substitute For Backwards Compatibility

@CharlieGirl How does Nintendo had anything to learn from Xbox there? Since the Xbox brand existed, it always used 12cm disks format (DVD and then BluRay) making it realy super easy to make the games usable on the next consoles.

How was Nintendo supposed to do that with the Switch? putting a freaking DVD player on the back of the console? Besides, Nintendo always tried to be backward compatible when possible : GBA played all GB and GBC games, DS played GBA games, 3DS played DS games, Wii played GC games, WiiU palyed Wii games (and GC with modding), I really don't see how they could do any better

@Effortlessgamer My thought exactly, and even if we take the WiiU instead of the cube, it is also a disc based home console, impossible to compare it to the Switch. It's totally different for Playstation who always had the same disc "size" (format would be wrong) frome de PS1 era to this day.

By the way the PS5 SHOULD could be able to play PS2 and PS3 games natively (or at least PS2, even if PS3 emulation came a long way)

@alexybubble When I was in Japan Mech simualtors were exactly what were taking a full floor at many arcades, games likes Gundam Battle Pods for exemple (https://otakuusamagazine.com/Uploads/Public/Images/Newsletter/1-8-13/GundamPod_02.jpg)

I tried to play one, really, you need a diploma to get it right, it's super complicated. I believe the machines were connected online, you were battling with other people at the same arcade, or maybe even on the whole Japan, I thought it was amazing

@alexybubble To be fair, especially in Japan, a ton of games come out with controllers that wouldn't be possible at home (Music game machines, but not only, look at Dance Central or the Densha de go with the crazy full sized train cabine)

For the rest you mention, I don't think that it's still possible for the arcade material to surpass home entertainment anymore. Most cabinet are PC based today, with the exact same components that are available to the general public.

It is far the time where arcade machines were so much ahead of everything we could get at home, sadly.

The real question should be : Why the hell did they lost themself in all the s*itty 3D Sonic since then and never continued with SOAD3? Why a werwolf? Why a freaking knight?! WHY SONIC BOOM??? Don't get me wrong, SOAD 1 and 2 were far from being perfect, but that was hell lot better than all those awfull games we got since 20 years now!! I just don't get it

As much as I love my PS5, it is true that it has little to play on it despites some PS4 games that I haven't had the occasion to play back when they came out. I play my Switch way more than any other consoles since years now, and 2022 won't be any different. Looking forward for Xeno 3 and Bayonetta 3 primarily, but smaller project like Mario Striker are in fact not far behind for me, especially in terme of fun, which is the most important factor after all
