Netflix has shared the full trailer for the upcoming Tekken: Bloodline anime, based on the long-running Tekken franchise from publisher Bandai Namco.
The series will feature a host of iconic characters from the series, including the likes of Jin Kazama, Hwoarang, Heihachi Mishima, Kazuya Mishima, Nina Williams, Paul Pheonix, and more. From the looks of it, the anime seems to be taking a lot of visual cues from Tekken 3 specifically, with many of the characters retaining the same costumes from the classic 1996 release.
Here's the official breakdown from Netflix:
"Power is everything." Jin Kazama learned the family self-defense arts, Kazama-Style Traditional Martial Arts, from his mother at an early age. Even so, he was powerless when a monstrous evil suddenly appeared, destroying everything dear to him, changing his life forever. Angry at himself for being unable to stop it, Jin vowed revenge and sought absolute power to exact it. His quest will lead to the ultimate battle on a global stage — The King of Iron Fist Tournament.
The anime is confirmed to release on Netflix on August 18th, so if you're a fan of the franchise, you may want to set your calendars!

Character design look totally off to me
I would prefer not using CG but pure hand drawn animation. I know it costs less but judging from trailer, if you compare it with the old SF2 animated movie, still SF2 is way better!
I've never really been into Tekken, and probably for that reason this looks alright to me. I bet for real Tekken fans it would be a little off maybe?
So this animated show starts at Tekken 3, make sense considering the old animated movie retold Tekken 1 in flashbacks only and ends after Tekken 2 with Jun and Kazuya getting murdered by True Ogre or so we thought.
Never been a fan of Tekken, but did enjoy playing multiplayer Tekken 3 on a whim with cousins on the PSX. This seems worth checking out.
@F_Destroyer they look spot on to me. It's based on Tekken 3, not the newer ones. It's the animation that looks weird to me.
This CG style is looking more or less alright, not a fan but it could have looked worse I guess. Atleast its watchable.
Also seems its confirmed that we will see more "post-TK3" characters beyond Leroy. I saw Feng (0:55) in there, thats neat.
The lighting they're using is super distracting, just a great big angular highlight at the top of every character regardless of lighting conditions.
Everyone's sporting an obtuse angle on their hairline.
All this show news lately? Is there even a Tekken game on Nintendo? I'm confused.
Why not review/post news each time a South Park special airs? I at least KNOW they have games on Nintendo thus somehow making it just as relevant.
Or do you only do news if it's related to that dying beast we call Netflix?
CH anime animators are starting to learn how it should look. Not 100% there yet but this is getting close. Looks pretty good.
@SteamEngenius So far only three Tekken games are on Nintendo and all were not main games: Tekken Advance for GBA based on Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken Prime 3D for 3DS based on Tekken 6 with online play and a free movie, and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for Wii U with every character from Tekken 1-6 (except Gon, not sure why Namco didn't include him since they do own him) in the game. The latest Tekken thing for Nintendo is the Heihachi Mii costume for Smash 4, Project X Zone 1 & 2 for 3DS, and Kazuya Mishima guest appearance in Smash Ultimate, otherwise Tekken was never that important for Nintendo. It's okay though, the story of Tekken was all about the Mishima families fighting each other so you're not missing much if you hadn't gotten into it.
This looks so damn badass. I don't even care if it's drawn crudely or weird sometimes, that paul looks straight up ugly, that they change the story or that the cgi is a little jarring. This is the kind of trash that I love to watch on netflix and I will enjoy it for what it is
It will be a fun watch even if it is pretty cheesy looking. Makes me wonder why Kazuya was put in Smash over Jin however, considering Jin is more or less the main good guy protagonist in Tekken.
@Axecon I'm guessing Namco couldn't decide which one of the three Mishima (Heihachi, Kazuya, and Jin) to include in Smash Ultimate so they did a drawing and accidentally got Kazuya. I would had pick Jin as well or at least make him an echo of his father though Heihachi wouldn't work as he had no devil form.
@Serpenterror From what I recall for Smash Ultimate's fighter development, I think Harada wanted to retire Heihachi because his voice actor passed away and Heihachi had officially been killed in Tekken 7 (Heihachi was actually strongly considered for Smash 4 but was relegated to a Mii costume due to development constraints). Regarding Kazuya over Jin, I'm curious the exact reasoning but it was refreshing to get more villain representation in Smash
@Axecon I always felt Sephiroth and Jin were good representations of Ghaleem and Dharkon.
Man I wouldn't compare SF2 movie since that one is fantastic and designs for the characters the CG looks okay not amazing but I will give it a chance never know might be good.
