I guess I play video games?

Re: Backlog Club: Have You Seriously Not Played Portal Yet?

Eeros

I was a pre-orderer of Portal 2 on steam back in the day. If these ever get a physical copy I'd be open to buying them again, not so much on digital I can just go play the digital copies I have. Never the less, they are a great time if you've never played them before.

My best friend and I spent so many hours playing the multiplayer in Portal 2.

Re: Video: The Unsolved amiibo Dilemma - Boxed Or Unboxed?

Eeros

I have the Octoling tri-pack unopened from when I bought it. Just never got around to opening it and now I don't think I will with the price tag on those. 😅

Most of my other amiibos I have opened, (Guardian, Wolf Link, a few Mario related ones) I hate not using things for their intended purpose.

Re: Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Coming To Switch In 2023

Eeros

Very excited. I've been looking at picking these up on original hardware for a while, some are quite expensive! I never had copies of my own and always borrowed neighbors carts to play, despite not really knowing anything about Megaman. All I knew was that he was super cute, and that I loved the artstyle which is still true. Can't wait to snag a physical copy.

Re: Feature: Remembering Klonoa's Dreamy GBA Platformers - Empires, Champions, And Puzzles

Eeros

I played both of these and have both carts for GBA. I'm pretty bad at puzzle platformers in general and these ones are pretty challenging! I loved the artwork and characters, those have always been the draw for me.

I cant wait to try the originals, I never had a playstation as a kid. Did manage to snag a copy of the wii version for a steal at gamestop years ago and from what I did play of it, it was enjoyable. I hope we get to see more of Klonoa in the future, he's too cute.

Re: How To Prepare Your 3DS And Wii U For Retirement - Hard Drive, Battery, Backup Tips

Eeros

@ralphdibny Lol I do feel like i've missed out now!! It's definitely higher up on my acquisitions list. It sounds like a charming console, I'm sad it didn't receive as much attention and glory as the switch, or even the 3DS at the time. Just kind of there in that awkward territory of handheld/console hybrid that Switch knocked out of the park. I'll start picking up games when I see them, which is hardly ever. I'm going to pay attention to your recommendations, I wouldn't have thought Sonic Lost World and Splinter Cell would be mid tier games. But maybe that means I can pick them up for a song.

Honestly I think it would be a lot of fun to play BoTW on wiiu with the game pad? Probably has some interesting gimmick to go along with that.

Re: How To Prepare Your 3DS And Wii U For Retirement - Hard Drive, Battery, Backup Tips

Eeros

@ralphdibny I'll have to try and get my hands on a wii U, even for the DS VC/playability alone. £90 sounds pretty good all things considered, just have to find one at the right price.

I've always been sad that I wasn't able to play the windwaker/twilight princess HD remakes either as both of those games are excellent. Not to mention all the games I have never heard of. Seems dumb that you wouldn't be able to custom map controls or orientations, but its better than nothing I suppose. The feeling of power when you push games to run on hardware that they aren't 100% intended for is amazing lol.

I agree 100% with your sentiments, play the games however you can, by the rules is great and my default method. But if you're expecting me to pay $300 for a game cart you are out of your mind there. Games for games sake. They were meant to be played and enjoyed!

Re: How To Prepare Your 3DS And Wii U For Retirement - Hard Drive, Battery, Backup Tips

Eeros

@ralphdibny I think you have the right idea there, an official one and one to have fun messing with. I agree it would be awesome to be able to play DS games on the TV with the touch pad! That would be the ideal use for it, I missed out on the Wii U and never knew anyone who had one. Now they're all a bit too out of my price range right now (I know I'll be kicking myself even further down the road for not picking one up now). Maybe this summer I can get lucky at some unwitting garage sale. A guy can dream. :v;

I wish there was a good way to play 3DS games on a TV as well. As with everyone, i've been playing the 3DS a lot more recently and wished it was bigger! The downside would be the graphics I suppose, and the lack of touch screen which is what I think emulators let you down on most. Maybe someday we will have some fancy Retron device to play them on.

I agree I would always rather have an official way to pay and play games, but since they don't make it easy, they shouldn't be surprised when modding becomes even more prevalent. If they no longer support the machines, what people do with them shouldn't be their concern.

Re: How To Prepare Your 3DS And Wii U For Retirement - Hard Drive, Battery, Backup Tips

Eeros

@Roibeard64 I agree, threw in the towel on my original launch day wii, the optical reader fried itself many many many years ago, (Even when the wii was still relevant) so instead of lamenting having a big brick, I homebrewed it to actually get some use out of the dang thing. It's working quite well, even though I'm rather inexperienced with getting all of the different emulators working.

I am hesitant to brew my main 3DS unit, but I think there will be a time soon that I'm more worried about losing all of my data than somehow messing up the process. I'm all for 'original software purity' or whatever, but on the other hand. Why not love yourself and make things easier. One is not more morally right than the other.

Re: The Aya Neo Air Is An OLED-Packing Handheld That Can Run Cyberpunk 2077 And GTA V

Eeros

@Williamfuchs420 PC Master race this PC Master race that, wish we could all stop using that term. PC is great. Console is great. People pick different things for different reasons. I used to only play PC games and now I hardly touch my steam library. The ease of throwing a disk in and starting the system and it just boots up and works trumps better graphics/performance on PC. Everyones different though, not to mention the fact that there is a barrier to entry on custom PC's. Not one that is impossible to overcome, but daunting none the less if you know nothing about PC's. Plus the parts price tag is...yeesh.

Physical games may not be here forever, but I will gladly take them over digital exclusive games. They can't unlist it from my games collection when I have it physically. ¯(ツ)/¯ All of your points are true and valid, but i'd rather own something physical than stream it/rent it/buy it digitally. Everyones different, future is always changing. Worlds just getting more anti-consumer.

Re: Nintendo President Says "Most" North American Switch Online Users Have Upgraded To The Expansion Pack

Eeros

Pass for me, I have NSO mostly for the (terrible) backup service and online service for certain games. I went a year without it and didn't miss it that much. The expansion games are not a selling feature for me, i'd rather own a copy of the game than one tied to a service that I might not always have.

If only there was some....virtual console.... or something. Ah well. I don't think i've spent more than 5 minutes with a N64 in my entire life so the games aren't a draw for me. If I want to play old games I'll play an old copy I own or emulate it.

Re: Rumour: Here Are The Supposed GBA Games "Tested" For Switch Online So Far

Eeros

I'd much rather have these as virtual consoles/eshop titles or physical collections rather than NSO. I have NSO online but I hate that they would be pay locked. TBH most of these games I already own carts of, Astro Boy, Kirby etc. But it would be great for a wider audience! Most everything on this list is a banger, only a handful I haven't played. Would be great to get main line pokemon on there.

Re: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Writer Reflects On The IP's Strengths And Appeal

Eeros

The Mystery Dungeon games are fantastic, the writing is great and more profound than the main line games. Blue Rescue team is still a game I remember fondly, and due to the nature of the story it allows you to bond closely with the characters and the setting. One of the few video games that has made me cry real tears. Plus the music is great!

That being said the Mystery Dungeon DX remakes really put me off on the artstyle. I don't care for how the models are shaded to look painted, I feel like they could have pushed that effect more and it might have looked better. Not sure, just the 3D assets interacting on the 2Dish background. I do want to pick it up eventually, maybe it will win me over once I actually play it.

I hope they do another Mystery Dungeon game eventually, the series has so much going for it. I just think they could tweak the art style a bit more.

Re: The Pokémon Company Is Buying The Firm That Makes Its Trading Cards

Eeros

From a printer standpoint their facility looks sick. Absolutely huge with 7 presses. Two of them being 8 color inline UV/Aqueous coating. Wowie plenty of dream machines there. It would be so neat to work on printing that kind of stuff, never thought to look up where that was printed before. Interesting article, thanks for the info!

Re: Random: "Chunky Cute Aesthetic" In New Pixar Movie 'Turning Red' Influenced By Nintendo Games

Eeros

Wowie, so much distaste in the comments. I thought the art direction/style was great, and the story was fine enough. I'm sure if I was a 13 year old it would have hit closer to home. Still relatable even though I'm older now. Some of you may not have been around in the early 2000's but yeah boy bands were very popular. (Never understood them though, I was an odd child)

For everyone saying "its cringe", jeez, kids are cringe. Kids do stuff all the time that they later look back on as weird/cringe. Let people be cringe and do what make them happy. That's part of growing up. (One of the themes of the movie 🙄)

Plus you can take inspiration from something but not directly reference it. They also took inspiration from Sailor Moon, Ranma ½, Fruits Basket, and Inuyasha. Some you can see more than others (Sailor Moon, Inuyasha) vs Fruits Basket. Though you can probably make an argument for all of them in some way.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Tops 1 Million Sales Worldwide

Eeros

SMT V looks cool! I hope to pick it up soon. I'm 13 hours into SMT IV and enjoying it more than I thought I would! I think the protagonist looks really slick, I thought it was a girl until coming to the comments section. I much prefer it if a protag is gender neutral, though I think I was just seeing they use gendered pronouns in game. Love the long hair!

Re: Atlus Dominates 3DS eShop Chart As Pokémon Crystal Falls Off Top Spot (North America)

Eeros

Not a big surprise here considering the great sales they have going on right now. I picked up SMT4 last week and have already played 11 hours of it. That's crazy since I wasn't even sure I was going to like an SMT game! Plus my attention span these days is terrible! Would love to see more re-releases/remakes of these SMT games stuck on the 3DS.

Not sure about picking up the Etrian Odyssey games, I don't really know anything about them.

Re: The Pokémon Trading Card Design Competition Has Been Narrowed Down To 300 Finalists

Eeros

I wish they would do a contest every year and then have make a special pack of fan submitted cards that would be dated the year/the theme with a limited release for the year or 6 months or whatever. Saying that I would be fearful of all of the card hoarding/scalping that might occur over limited run cards.

All of the top 300 are excellent, and I am sure the other 9,000+ not listed are of equal caliber!

Re: Video: Check Out This Japan-Only Club Nintendo Game You Likely Never Heard Of

Eeros

This looks so interesting! I hope Nintendo can bring games like this back/to a wider audience in the future. Interest in Japanese culture has been extremely high due to the influx of anime over the last decade. A game like this could probably do pretty good with the right marketing.

The game itself looks intriguing and the art style is great! It's a shame it's getting 'locked in the vault'.

Re: PS1-Inspired 'Boreal Tenebrae' Is Coming To Switch This Week

Eeros

@Ogbert ooh good catch there, watched the trailer and was intrigued. Thanks for noting their NFT support I haven't heard of this publisher/dev before and have heard about that news. I will not be getting this game! Any publisher that is touting NFT's and NFT "games" is one I would not like to support.

Re: Talking Point: Should We Still Be Pre-Ordering Games?

Eeros

@Tallicalynn Sorry to hear about your predicament! I've been told the same thing by employees, "Oh yeah well we started giving them away to whomever" ugh. Or I've had them try to tell me I didn't have my preorder in early enough so I wasn't counted in the total preorders for the store, so they weren't sent enough to cover all of the preorders they ended up getting.

Maybe give a $5 refund or whatever to whomever pre-ordered but was unable to receive the bonus, that would take a little sting out of not getting the items. Or maybe not give away the items until all preorders have been picked up. Seems to be a challenge. Hope we can both get any cool items next time we preorder!

Re: Talking Point: Should We Still Be Pre-Ordering Games?

Eeros

I pre-order a lot of first party Nintendo games. That being said I didn't preorder the new Kirby game since I was planning on saving that money for something else. I am going to pick Kirby up today (launch day) because I could use a little Kirby after the week I've had. So that didn't really work out to my advantage haha.

I pre-ordered Pokemon Arceus from Gamestop and wasn't even able to get my bonus art cards (the only reason for purchasing a preorder) because I have a day job and wasn't able to pick up my copy until after 5:00. Sure I get first come first serve, but if you pre-order it you should be guaranteed to get the item. :/ Whatever, its made me remember how dumb pre-ordering is again.

The last game I was salty about pre-ordering was the PC release of Assassin's Creed Revelations, shipped late and had no bonus items if I remember. And I didn't really end up liking the game...probably because my computer couldn't handle it.

Re: Feature: The 20 Best Kirby Copy Abilities

Eeros

I've really liked Wing and Yo-yo Kirby myself! Fighting and UFO are favorites that made the list. People didn't really like Squeak Squad? I haven't played it in a really long time but I loved that game!

I think Amazing Mirror beats it out as my #1 favorite though because I did have 3 other people to play it with and the wireless communication blew my mind as a kid.

Real question is what is everyones favorite color of Kirby? Emerald, Grape, and Carbon were my 3 favorites.

Re: Kirby Is Getting An Official Concert To Celebrate His 30th Birthday

Eeros

Excited that it is streaming! I went to the last Pokemon Symphonics concert held in Grand Rapids (unknowingly, I had wanted to attend for years and finally made it happen, I was pretty surprised at the announcement) and it was such a great experience, I only wish that I had a CD copy of the music. Live orchestrated video game music is beautiful and hearing Kirby tracks that way would be fantastic!

Re: Nintendo 64 Platformer 'Glover' Returns, Just Not On Switch

Eeros

@RupeeClock Yeah they've bought the rights to essentially fix up the game (I've read that they edit and change original source code, albeit this is all on a twitter thread so I take that with a hefty grain of salt as I have no development knowledge) and repackage it however they want, however. Supporting NFT's, being rude AF to folks online, and threatening legal action over ROM's that have been online two decades leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

If they are re-releasing a game with edited/fixed up code why worry about an obscure old unfinished demo hosted on a handful of sites. Especially if their stance is quote: "What's the point? What historic value does a Rom with unfinished graphics or freezer bug have?" When asked about releasing/hosing old original ROM's. To me it's just saying "This is worthless but also I'm going to be upset about it because legally I can be upset about it" You wouldn't buy the rights to an old cartoon and then go to a museum who has a display with the old cartoon running for the enjoyment and sake of education of patrons and say "Hey I'm doing an HD re-release of these cartoons please remove them and stop showing it." ?

I'm not trying to argue, they are technically within their legal rights (Maybe? I mean I haven't read their ownership agreement). I'm just in disagreement with their whole ethos, not that you have to agree or disagree with me personally. I was just tacking it on to your comment so the whole situation could be easily readable together as one. Adding to that convo!

Re: Nintendo 64 Platformer 'Glover' Returns, Just Not On Switch

Eeros

@RupeeClock I'd like to pop on and add to your thread. Not only are they Not Great at game conservation they also support NFT's! (Please do not get into an argument about NFT's. I am adding the information for you to make your own conclusions)

Re: Netflix's 'The Cuphead Show' Gets A Refill For A Second Season

Eeros

@Noxide Oh I'm well aware! Netflix (among many companies in many industries) is experiencing Job Creep, cutbacks and higher workloads. Many new series have already experienced this season splitting technique (We Baby Bears just got picked up for a "season 2" as well) and it isn't just a Netflix thing. I'm also afraid going forward this will be the norm, in corporate efforts to maximize profits over providing a fair wage and safe working conditions to their artists and production staff. That is why it is important to speak up on these topics, the more people who know about it, the better we can affect a change! Artists create important and profound works that can bring joy to many folks, especially in such dark times as these. They deserve our support!

Re: Netflix's 'The Cuphead Show' Gets A Refill For A Second Season

Eeros

@Z-Core

I've heard that a lot too, I'm more inclined to believe the animators over what corporate Netflix says.I hope they can get all of their demands met and have better a work balance. Animators everywhere deserve it for bringing us such wonderful shows. (search # NewDeal4Animation on twitter to learn more.)
