Update [Thu 2nd June, 2022 09:30 BST] Well it seems like everyone wants a piece of Kirby's 30th birthday celebrations!
HAL Laboratory shared an update on Twitter today that will please many Kirby fans who are desperate to attend the show in person. A second daytime performance, which will open at 11am JST and begin playing at 12:30pm JST, has now been scheduled. A nice little lunchtime soiree for those in Japan! (thanks to Robert Sephazon for translating on Twitter!)
This daytime show won't be streamed, but the evening performance — opening at 4:30pm JST with the musical extravaganza kicking off at 6pm JST — will still be live-streamed. So, if you don't live in Japan or can't afford to attend either of the concerts in person, you'll still be able to watch the show online!
If you want to attend the daytime show on 11th August, you can enter a lottery period from today to 8th June, and you'll find out if you were lucky enough to win a ticket between 11th and 14th June. Tickets will also go on sale from 19th June. All of the details are on the concert's official website right here.
The concert will be streamed on YouTube — details of which will be shared on the official Kirby Twitter. The show starts pretty early for most of us around the world, though — 2am PDT / 5am EDT / 10am BST / 11am CET on 11th August — so it'll be one for a cup of coffee rather than something fancier. The show will be archived for a limited amount of time too, so you'll be able to watch it a bit later in the day if you're not a spring chicken or a night owl.
Original article [Mon 14th Mar, 2022 17:00 GMT] The Kirby series' 30th anniversary is fast approaching, as is the release of the pink puffball's next game, Kirby and the Forgotten Land. And it looks like we're going to have a big music festival to celebrate one of Nintendo's most recognisable, and cutest, characters.
For a moment, we were ready to be disappointed. Nintendo UK shared the Grand Opening from the series' 25th Anniversary concert. And, as good as that concert was, we thought that was all we were going to get. Luckily, just a little while later, the official Kirby account shared its plans for the round guy's next big celebration (thanks, Nibel).
The Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Festival will take place on 11th August, and it will be streamed online via the official Kirby YouTube channel for free! That's better than a Maximum Tomato.
While we don't know anything specific about the concert — such as prices or what time it's airing — the official website does have this to say:
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Kirby, a one-time-only music festival will be held featuring a large big band-style ensemble of 35 musicians performing in a variety of genres!
This event is a musical event in which you can enjoy original medleys of songs from past titles in the series while reminiscing on your memories with them. A large LED monitor at the venue will also feature a moving Kirby! We look forward to having an exciting festival together with everyone.
We hope to meet you all at the online venue!
We imagine, along with a Kirby-sized mouthful of classic songs, we'll be given a few appetizers of Kirby and the Forgotten Land tracks to celebrate the new release.
Japan is getting a little something extra, too. On 15th April, the My Nintendo Store will be releasing a collection of medals to celebrate all things Kirby. These feature our rosy, smiley friend doing all manner of Kirby-related activities, such as sleeping, surfing on stars, and floating. There's even a medal that's a nod to his much-earlier Game Boy design, with slightly pointier hands.
We hope these will make their way westwards, otherwise we might need one of Kirby's wands to make them a reality over here. Or just a good shipping budget.
Kirby's 30th anniversary is on 27th April, which is the Japanese release date of Kirby's Dream Land. We wonder if we'll get a year-long celebration. Though, looking at the fact that Nintendo didn't acknowledge the Switch's 5th birthday, or even do much for The Legend of Zelda's 35th anniversary (though Skyward Sword HD and that Game & Watch were pretty neat!), perhaps we shouldn't expect too much.
Will you be in attendance at the concert? Do you have plans to celebrate Kirby's 30th anniversary? Let us know in the comments!

If it's just an hour of pop songs with every lyric replaced with 'Poyo', I'd buy a ticket.
Where's the Kirby Game & Watch with pink trim? Same place as the Metroid one that wasn't released last year I assume.
If only it was in person and in the states. But great that its happening at all. I look forward to it. Wondering which or how many game's music are being represented in this.
@Enigk I saw the headline and immediately thought about a Game and Watch too!
I feel like Kirby would be an Opera singer.
Im SO Excited For This Im Happy That It Streams On Youtube!
I really hope more franchises do this in the future to celebrate anniversaries. I would DIE for a Metroid version of this.
@StarPoint Metroid would be great. The symphony of the goddess would be nice to see again. Along with Xenoblade, Donkey Kong, and Fire Emblem getting their own bands and orchestras.
Conductor Kirby when?
@FishyS Ever used the Mic ability? Kirby's a rock star.
@Enigk its still possible we get one, the year is young
I'm so hyped to watch this and listen to my fave tunes. I'm glad ppl overseas will be able to watch it. I wish it was sooner then August but honestly gives me more Kirby joy to anticipate this fine 30th year.
@Erigen You and me both!
@Kirby_Girl Can't wait! 😍
YES!!!! I dunno. There are some real bad things about gaming these days, but I feel like there are so many awesome things like this too.
I guess ya takes the good with the bad in life, eh?
Almost a disrespect flex to Zelda's 35th....
@nowthisisepic We can cross everything and hope!
Kirby music in general is something I don't have enough of on my phone, and has a lot of standout tracks across the series history. I am partial to the SNES era mostly, with some love for The Crystal Shards.
But more importantly, I kinda really want those medals...
Thats great.
Also, we need figures of the Kirby characters in those outfits, especially Dedede.
Hmmm...is this that secret project Sakurai was hinting about? I think it could be time for him to have some involvement in his own creation.
@Vriess
The idea of a Zelda anniversary is so far down the drain, to be honest. However, I'm also not too disappointed given how messy it could've been.
Streamed concert? Cool! I hope they include Stellar Way and other delightful tunes from Kirby's Epic Yarn in the program
Poyo hell yes! It's the year of Kirby and I'm so glad HAL is going all out! Next up: an old game collection and a retro Kirby game and watch!! (hopefully)
Gee golly so swell
Why would people want to go to a Kirby concert?
Don't they know the lore?
When Kirby sings, people die.
@FishyS Now I can't unhear the Magic Flute with Poyo
@Erigen That sounds like a nightmare...where can I get a ticket?
@ModdedInkling Not sure how he will be involved in a concert unless he’s a musician. I imagine he will be present or in the audience. Maybe he’ll go there with the Kirby voice actress as I’ve seen them do events like go to the Kirby Cafe.
Excited that it is streaming! I went to the last Pokemon Symphonics concert held in Grand Rapids (unknowingly, I had wanted to attend for years and finally made it happen, I was pretty surprised at the announcement) and it was such a great experience, I only wish that I had a CD copy of the music. Live orchestrated video game music is beautiful and hearing Kirby tracks that way would be fantastic!
Might watch it on youtube. Kirby music is great.
bring back the anniversary collection or go to hell!
Here's hoping for a Blu-ray release of the show like they've done for Splatoon and Zelda.
So happy that the stream in my timezone is in a comfortable 12 AM.
I wonder what kind of musicians were among those 35 performing in different genres? Did anyone connect to that live festival show that night? I'd like to know the names of the performers because I'm interested in music. I really hope there were some rappers. As far as I know, rockers are more popular in Japan than rappers, but there are also a lot of subcultures in that country that respect the rap genre as well. I know several famous Japanese streamers who often listen to Travis Scott's tracks while playing various shooters. Does anyone watch Japanese streamers? One streamer once said so many compliments about Travis that some viewer chatted him up about Travis Scott's annual profit at the time, LOL. https://www.lolwot.com/travis-scott-net-worth/
