Re: PSA: Metal Gear Solid 4 Is The Headliner, But Master Collection Vol. 2's "Bonus" Is One Of GBC's Best

@RCGamer from a completionist's standpoint, it would have been nice to have twin snakes, but that game was kind of a dud, despite being one of my most highly anticipated gcn games at the time. The first person aiming mechanics brought over from mgs2 completely broke the game, and the cutscene direction is really lame, with snake performing superhuman feats of agility and strength, like he's neo in the matrix.

Re: Nintendo Suggests Metroid Prime 4's Tortured Development Meant It Was "Divorced From The Changing Of Times"

It's a good game. I think a lot of the hate from hardcore fans comes from within - they have valid issues with the game, but reading between the lines of that discourse and what they say they wanted from the game, it sounds a lot more like people getting older and desiring a return to a simpler, more carefree time in their lives, when it was easier to be "immersed" or whatever. Unfortunately, a video game is never going to take you back to how to felt to be 15 years old on summer break.

This has been one of my most beloved series ever since the first time I got my hands on Super Metroid as a little kid - I only had about 30 minutes with it, and was absolutely perplexed by it, I'd literally never played a game where you could go left if you chose to. But the vibe of the game got its hooks in me in a strange way, where I'd look at the box in the video store every time I went, but was too intimidated to actually play it until well into the 32-bit era, once I'd gotten accustomed to more open, exploration based gameplay. It's a game I've revisited probably a dozen times, along with the rest of the series (aside from the outliers like Other M, Hunters, and Federation Force which I never played.)

Which is all to say, I've been greatly anticipating Prime 4, but with a great deal of apprehension, based on the troubled development, the tone of early previews/footage, and Nintendo's history of giving the series short shrift. Thankfully, Prime 4 absolutely delivers for me. The vibe is intact. The lack of innovation people complain about is, is a non-issue to me - games like this are scarce as it is, and it's been such a long wait since Corruption, that the familiarity is comforting, like hanging out with a friend you haven't seen in forever, only to find you still have that same easy connection. Even the NPCs don't bother me, and overbearing NPCs that constantly yap and steer you towards the goal have made me tap out on numerous big games (GOW: Ragnarok and Horizon FW, to name a couple.)

tl;dr I've been a Metroid fan for 30-ish years, I am absolutely loving Prime 4, and I hope it achieves the success it deserves.

@Dang_69 Yeah, a big chunk of the Nintendo fandom has a very "don't talk bad about muh toys!!" attitude. Even light criticism is twisted and construed as a targeted attack not only against Nintendo, but the fans themselves. It's beyond childish.

Playing Romancing Saga 2 on the Switch 2, which is quite stunning at 4K/60fps docked, then hopping over to the P3R demo, is quite jarring. Really seems like whatever team worked on the port hasn't done a great job optimizing it.

Re: Demonschool Gets Last-Minute Delay To Avoid Silksong

Hollow Knight was just a fairly standard Metroidvania with weird floaty controls and graphics that looked like a Newgrounds flash game. I feel like most of its success is due to a lot of its audience not being familiar with the genre, and the fact it was routinely on sale for less than $10. It felt pretty unremarkable to me from a gameplay standpoint, and the art style was very generic.

"...not even Jeff Minter has managed to bag one yet."

Hahaha, okay... it's nice that the site got to interview him, but guy has been at the very margins of game development for decades, and no project of his has made even a tiny splash since Tempest 2000. He's lauded for his work 30+ years ago, but he's largely irrelevant now. A guy like him not receiving a dev kit yet means absolutely nothing.
