It should absolutely be a better iteration of the switch. Better meaning newer tech. They can add some kind of new innovation or gimmick of course, but they shouldn't stray from what is currently working.
If you look at the history of their consoles, the big new innovation always comes after 2 generations. For those 2 gens in-between, they're just improved versions of the same console with a twist usually. The SNES was an improved NES, then we got 3D graphics for the N64 and the Gamecube was the improvement. Motion control innovation led to the Wii, with the WiiU being the (half baked) improvement. Same thing with handhelds. Gameboy/GBC then the improved GBA, and DS then the improved 3DS. It should be the same thing this time, with an improved hybrid console that's hopefully backwards compatible with the switch.
@Giancarlothomaz last year Nintendo said the switch was only halfway through its life cycle. Kirby doesn't mean anything. Especially with tears of the Kingdom coming
Plenty of big titles in 2022, it was a great year for the switch. Especially if you compare it to PlayStation and Xbox.... they had what, 2 big games each?
Honestly, the switch is pretty much what's keeping me interested in gaming. At least gaming with recent titles.
Jungle green. Came with a copy of a yellow DK64 and the better jump pack. I ended up with this one since my family couldn't afford one for the first few years it was out. Still got it and it works!
"Nintendo's successor to the N64 felt oddly child-like by comparison, with its bright colours"
This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The N64 is way more child like than the gamecube, especially when talking about bright colors of the consoles. The N64 came in TONS of bright colored variants of see-through plastic. Not to mention special Pokemon editions and the toys r us exclusive extreme green. The N64 controllers just look like toys too.
If the games originally came in a cardboard box, I'll stick with loose carts. But if they came in cases (Sega, Sony, gamecube, ds, etc.) Then I absolutely want the case and manual.
@Would_you_kindly Pokemon is game freaks fault though. That's been discussed on here extensively.
As for 3rd party games, I haven't experienced it. Doom and no man's sky both work great. Seems like people are just exaggerating. Either that or myself (and quite a few other people on here) have just really kicked out and haven't had issues. I doubt that though.
Reminds me of fallout. I played new Vegas first and fell in love with it. I think playing 3 first would've been about the same reaction. But if I had started at 1? Probably never would've gotten through it. Pivotal I appreciate them now, but they're not the same games. Same thing can be said of a lot of the Nintendo series. The first metroid would be a tough sell now.
@Duncanballs yeah I kinda feel like they're gonna need multiple models. A switch 2 "max" or something. They definitely need to maintain affordability. They've acknowledged that a lot of their current sales are families adding more systems to their homes because of affordability
@jrt87 ridiculous claims. It's sales performance alone blows your argument to nothing.
I haven't had any performance issues with my switch. If I were to compare it to an Xbox or PlayStation, sure, it doesn't perform as well. But it's not supposed to. That's the whole point of Nintendo blue ocean tactic, they aren't directly competing with them and aren't comparable.
Also the gamecube was more powerful than the ps2 or Xbox, and had quite a few adult games. So I'm not sure what you're getting at there
The transition should be no big deal so long as the next console is a hybrid that's backwards compatible. Malke all the specs better, improve the joycons, and bam. Easy transition. They don't need to reinvent the wheel again
@Would_you_kindly except it isn't crap performance at all. And why limit themselves like that when the switch has done so well? They'd have to be idiots to do that
@nitrolink 2 years definitely isn't "instant." I'd say giving it 2 years worth of game releases and holiday sales should definitely tell you if it's a success or not.
Why would anyone pay for games they don't actually own? Eventually that service will be shut down, and that's that. Not surprised it runs poorly either.
Got it day one back in 2002 (I was 12, wtf) and loved it. The train was obviously great, another mansion was fun again, I didn't mind the plot, and we got some great lore and back story. The lack of item chests was super annoying, but I have no ther complaints. Here's hoping Capcom remakes this one and Code Veronica at some point.
@Jokerwolf that's not obvious at all, lol. They said the switch was only halfway through its life a year ago. We have 3 more years at least before a new switch. Wouldn't make sense to release the successor that quickly after the OLED, especially when they're still selling well.
@Poodlestargenerica what? The switch is already more powerful than a ps3. And of course they can eventually make one more powerful than a ps4.....do you think technology stops advancing for some reason? I'm sure people thought we couldn't get 3ds graphics on a handheld smaller than a gameboy too, lol
@Captain-N yeah but the president of Nintendo said it was halfway through its lifespan only a year and a half ago. We have 3 more years at least. That's why all these articles and comments about getting something new confuse me.... they literally already told us how long we have.
@Soylentcuck Jesus Christ. You can't sacrifice a child that wasn't even conceived. I've seen a lot of awful people online attack others for some dumb crap, but you have to be the king of triggered butthurt attacking. Some people don't want kids, simple as that. It doesn't make them selfish, stupid, man children, irresponsible, or any other nonsense you incorrectly claimed. People like you are what's wrong with the world, and the exact type of person that shouldn't be breeding and teaching the next generation. Go take a nap or something.
@WoomyNNYes that's definitely something they need to do. If they want the next console to be even close to this successful, they'll need backwards compatibility. It would be even better if accessories like controllers, as well as digital downloads transfer over.
@Ogbert I didn't make anything up. I've seen how they were made, and how they changed up the design teams. They brought people on to capitalize on the popularity, and the designs suffered. They were considerably less picky about what made the cut.
@Dilly-Mick nah. A lot more work by a small group of devoted artists went into the first 151. After pokemon blew up, they brought in way more people and rushed everything to make as much money as possible as quickly as possible. That's why we've been getting so many more awful pokemon ever since. The ratio is way off. Same reason they over saturated the games with legendaries
Also known as, clearly a Rip off of animal crossing. Seriously, right down to the talking animal villagers? Won't be rewarding them for stealing, I'll stick with animal crossing.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo's Next Console Have To Be 'Another' Switch?
@napabar not really. The wii essentially had a gamecube in it, which they removed later on. It was just backwards compatible

Definitely teal. Mine came bundled with Pokemon Yellow.
