@Andrew: The problem was that people wanted a relastic Zelda game and when Wind Waker was released many people were diassapointed. For me Wind Waker was the game that got me into the Zelda Franchise and I really enjoyed it. The reason why Nintendo made Twilight Princess the way they did though was because everybody wanted another Ocarina of Time and thats the way it ended up. Personally Twilight Princess is my favorite game in the Zelda series because I love the story and Midna was my favorite character. However, I think the game suffered also from lack of voice acting with all those cinematics.
You know its funny I completey forgot about VC releases and Wii Ware releases last week. I barely remembered for this week and that shows how much I care about the VC anymore. And once again nothing I wanted came out this week. This year for me has only been good because Harvest Moon got released. All I can do now is just wait.
I still don't understand why they priced this stupid looking game at 1000 Wii Points other then paying for the name "Pokemon." I agree with your review and it has the same score as on IGN.
I was so interested in this game now I am not. It looks like a waggler but if it isn't priced at 1000 Wii Points and maybe 500 Wii Points I will pick it up. But I doubt that is going to happen.
Here we go again with more people bitching about video games. Why don't we bitch about all of the horrible things being shown on TV and in the movies then? Isn't it easier for kids to access the internet and see inappropriate things?
@ WarioFan63: Well it used to piss me off when people generalized Canada with the U.S. when it was being released in North America but I got used to it. I wish the site would put NA like they do with EU but whatever. I always just change it myself and say North America. And with that being said I hope that "North America" gets Super Mario RPG soon because I only got to rent it as a kid.
A Pokemon week and I can't believe how many Pokemon games there is out there now. I got to agree with the person who said Red and Blue were the best I agree with you. There was inventory issues and the boxes are annoying compared to the newer games but they were the best due to being simple. Also I think the Gold/Silver/Crystal were excellent due to adding in Kanto (but sadly no Safari Zone).
Anyways, I think they just released Pokemon so people would focus on it. I don't think this game is worth 1000 points and I wish they would start pricing certain Wii Ware games a bit cheaper. I am not interested in this game though. It reminds me of Pokemon Box.
@Objection_Blaster: I know how you feel. When I wanted Harvest Moon I was 100 points short and got a Wii Points card. Now I have 1900 points sitting on my Wii.
On Topic: Good week for imports and nice to see a solid week. Interesting to see Pokemon Ranch was released even though it was expected to come out soon.
@Mike: I got to agree with your comment 100% it took the words right out of my mouth.
Europe has had excellent VC releases lately while North America has been getting crap. However, while North America at the end of 2007 was getting tons of titles, Europe was only getting one title a week. So the tables turned and then out of nowhere Europe gets zero titles? You can't have your cake and eat it too. Europe got the better launch line-up for Wii Ware.
Although across the board I must say in either region Nintendo has dissapointed me a ton. I have to agree with the people who say they were/are loyal Nintendo fans and feel like they are being screwed. I feel in the same boat and am starting to go more towards Sony.
@firebrand: I agree with you 100% in regards to that extra $1 for Toki Tori. I wanted to wipe out my Wii Points and 900 points would've been perfect but now they go ahead and make it 1000 points. If I buy that once again I will be 100 points short of a game!
Also this weeks VC release sucks IMO as usual. I remember in 2007 when people said "I hope 2008 is a good year for the VC." Well here we are 6mths later half way through 2008 and the VC has been for the most part crap.
Either way I think Nintendo is promoting Wii Ware and want people to look there.
Darn it 1000 Wii Points for Toki Tori that ruins my plan to wipe out my Wii Points. I only hope that when Super Mario RPG comes to North America now it will also be 900 Wii Points. But its awesome its here now =D!
Well I guess the saying is true "You can't have your cake and eat it too."
Oh well I was looking forward to Toki Tori and don't care about Dr. Mario RX. But I can't complain at all. Its a good week overall and Metal Slug did come out.
Well I do enjoy Metal Slug but due to space issues I might not get it. However, at least now people will shut up (don't mean to be rude about Dr. Mario. Although I am dissapointed that Toki Tori wasn't released. But I would have to admit that this week is a very nice week for North America. Its a hit and miss really. Two good games and two well not so interesting games.
@ toffeeman30: I never played ET for the NES but it would be funny if the VC got the Atari 2600 on it. If you really wanted a 1-Star Week then they would have to release only one game. And that would be ET for the Atari 2600 the game that almost single handedly made the Video Game Crash of 1983. And that would go down for the worst VC Release Week in the History of the VC.
In all seriousness I would like to know what is being released tomorrow (or I should say today) although I know I will be dissapointed.
I want to see Tiny Toons on the VC the game is cool! But don't these big sites even check the VC and also Nintendo even announced there would be no VC releases for May 12th.
I only read your reviews and info for VC stuff anyways, so I was oblivous to this whole thing until now.
I was looking forward to this game but seeing the trailer now has kind of bored me. And I also hate the bathroom humor stuff and the game looks kind of repetitive. Maybe if it is 500 Wii Points?
I can't believe nobody even noticed this in the trailer. I guess you were all getting worked up with the shovelware in the game but didn't anybody even see?! What an amaturish trailer that was because guess what?! THE PEOPLE IN THE TRAILER DIDN'T EVEN USE THEIR WII WRIST STRAPS! I hope that the remotes all fly into the TV while they are drunk so there goes their money.
I don't see why people are getting worked up though about this. There will always be a bad apple in every bunch. Hell the PS2 was arguably the best system ever made and it had its fair share of shovelware. However, the good titles out did the bad titles. So if Wiiware still gets more good titles then bad titles then the service won't be bad. And I am looking forward to the Major League Eating competiton game.
That "harr" or whatever it is was driving me nuts. Also I personally found the video to be a bit boring. I don't mean to be harsh on the video though and I appreciate you guys bringing us the news first. I think the graphics are very good though from the quality of the video which isn't bad. But the game just looks kind of boring. But I would hope that it isn't overpriced like some games are being thinks of Critter Round-up
@Rapadash6: Don't throw your Wii out the window or else when the games you do want come out, you won't be able to play them. And remember patience is a virtue, and before you know it Monday will come. Heck we are almost half way through 2008. Also I know you were joking about throwing your Wii out the window.
Anyways, to all the Europeans complaining please don't. You guys got a good Wii Ware launch line-up compared to the North America, and at least get a VC game this week. Now I realize that this doesn't compare though to how many times Nintendo gives you the short end of the stick i.e. Brawl taking three months to come out and some games never being released. But at least Nintendo is being a bit nicer to you right now.
Yay for the barnyard game =P. Nice review on the game. I don't see how a barnyard game can be $10 though. I am suprised at Konami for charging so much but I guess it also has to do with royalties and contracts with Nintendo. But still with Toki Tori coming next week which will be a superior puzzle game which costs a $1 less then this I don't get how they could charge so much.
In regards to SSBB for all those Europeans out there and Australians the online SUCKS! I saw two friends online who couldn't connect to each other and I lagged with one of my online friends. Yet in Mario Kart Wii with the friend I lagged with on Brawl there was 0 lag. The Mario Kart Wii online is SUPERIOR to SSBB. So just don't get your hopes up with the online. Also it takes forever to connect for a random match or sometimes you can't at all. I am not sure though if this was fixed since I haven't done online for almost over 2mths.
Wow Europe got a nice launch the only dud in there per say is TV Show King. The rest in general opinions are excellent titles. I would like Toki Tori and I hope it does come to NA next week . Maybe then I will also get Pokemon League for the N64 to get back to 0 Wii Points again.
@lockelocke: I feel the exact same way you did. The moment I was watching that video of E3 and Nintendo said VC with a whole huge library I was so happy. I thought "WOW I can finally play all those N64 games I never got to experience and play Super Mario RPG." Well that is all long gone. But at least I got many of the games I did hope for.
Well I think this is due to Wii Fit coming out on Wednesday. Europe doesn't have any good releases to look foward to from NIntendo until Brawl is finally released.
I could careless about Dr. Mario but be happy its going to come out next Monday.
@Rapadash6: Saying we only get 1~2 VC games a week and Europe is getting more now is kind of umm not fair. In the respect that near the end of 2007 Europe was mostly only getting 1 VC game a week while the U.S. was getting 3 or 4 a week.
I am personally not happy with the way the VC is working right now but I have other things to play. I understand people are dissapointed and so am I. I have had $19.00 sitting in my Wii Shop for months now just because I was short 100 points for a game. But the point I am making is with the release of Mario Kart Wii and GTAIV as well as other titles try to pre-occupie yourself.
Wii Fit is coming out this week so maybe thats why Nintendo is holding out to balance out the releases. I quit waiting for Super Mario RPG as thats the only game I would like to see on the VC now which won't come forever.
Now now remember what Reggie said in an interview with the guy from Gametrailers "We at Nintendo like to space out our releases so gamers can have enough time to enjoy every game and not have so many games thrown at them." If we all think about that we have Wii Fit coming out on Wednesday so Dr. Mario would ruin everybodies chance to enjoy Wii Fit. /sarcasm
@Chipmunk777: You might want to purchase a cleaning kit with a screw that will open up your SNES game carts because the battery might be dead. I don't know if that is your problem but the batteries for old cartridge games do die over the years.
I signed the petition and I wouldn't expect to see Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger or Super Mario RPG released on the VC sadly. It seems like Square Enix only enjoys milking the Final Fantasy Franchise with many spin-offs and ignores all of Square Softs earlier IPs.
I don't care about the old Final Fantasy games as I own all of them through the PS1 re-releases (aside from FFIII). What I want to see released is Super Mario RPG since I never really got to play it and I would be happy.
I am not suprised with what Square Enix's statement though. Seeing they released FFI and FFII on the PS1, and then on the GBA, and then on the PSP. How many remakes of those games does this world need?
That sucks for people who want this game to be released for Wii Ware. I never did like Dr. Mario much but the online part of the game is really awesome.
Not my cup of tea. And to some people having to use two Wiimotes might be a turn off. I also think though that 1000 points is a bit pricey for this game.
@Corbie: Thanks very much for answering my question about the DLC.
@ReaperJ21: "Pay 2 Play" is Downloadable Content (DLC) so the prices depend on what you are buying. I know the costumes are 1000 Wii Points a piece. And there is other packages like dungeon packs and packs to buy different races. According to IGN it costs $40USD for the game and all of the DLC combined.
Thanks so much for the excellent and informative review. I have been waiting for the review on this site for my final decsion on downloading this game. I will definently be purchasing it once I am done with GTAIV. But I hate DLC and I want to just know if the Dungeon Pack is really worth the price and does that Race pack only add different races? I don't care about different races of characters.
Thanks again for the review and very well written.
@SuperSonic1990: There is no review but there is for other WiiWare games. Even IGN till now doens't have a review because I guess its the way the game takes a long time or something. If you want a review right now though I know that 1up.com has one. But I am waiting for this site to get a review up until I purchase the game.
Thanks for the review. I wasn't interested in this game but I thought it had all casino games in it. I agree with you its a tad over the top being $7 for just black jack.
Excellent review and very informative, and well written.
Collin very good review overall and enjoyable to read. I can tell you wrote it honestly and tried to throw a bit of humor into it which worked.
I do have a few sugestions though personally as to what I would've liked to have known about. The first suggestion is the controls. I notice in the screen shot that the answers to the multiple choice questions are a bit covered up. How do the controls work in this game? Also you might want to mention that a Wiimote is needed for each person.
My second suggestion would be that you mention how often the same question pops up. There is 3,000 questions in the game but the computer could randomly spout out the same question. It happened to me in the NES version of Family Feud.
And also to be very techincal say his/her lol.
Overall though I really enjoyed reading the review. I liked the way that you introduced the review with talking about classic boardgames to warm the reader up into going the review. And thanks to you I have decided not to purchase this game.
