I loved this game. On one hand, this probably frees up N to farm it out to someone else, but it’s hard to imagine it being built by a team that’s not Platinum. The quirkiness, style and action would be hard to replicate.
This. I really loved the original, and why a sequel doesn’t exist is beyond me. Maybe Snap sales will change that.
I would also be TOTALLY GOOD with the TCG being integrated into the next mainline series a la Gwent in Witcher 3. The engine’s already there, and I think fans would be excited even if it was more of Sword gameplay plus TCG.
But we’ll probably get a Pokemon calorie counting app before that happens.
@rdrunner1178 some might. Think Call of Duty titles sell 20-30mm generally, though I’m not sure how many copies sell in their first eight months. It’s not an easy comparison with Call of Duty hyped for holiday spending and - to be fair, I would expect AC to sell a ton in the next two months with the holidays, assuming they’re able to print them. Either way - pretty dang impressive attach rate for the big N.
@John_Deacon a Nintendo Selects line for Switch would be awesome. I don’t think that’s going to happen with games looking cheap compared to xbsx and ps5, but maybe some price reductions for your Kirby and Yoshi games that probably have leveled off and aren’t evergreen sellers.
Keep selling, baby! The more that sell, the more likely the business case will make sense for niche titles. And third party support that develops specifically for the system.
@saiyantrunks79 agree on Shadows of the Empire. That and Mario 64 were my first two game’s. I vividly remember battling IG88 in the junkyard.
Honestly? Pretty good list. I would probably swap some mario party and THPS games in favor of 1080, Yoshi, Shadows of the Empire, but most deserve the spot.
@Sszx09 Astral Chain is awesome. Can’t recommend it enough.
The 25% back on Eshop credit if you have the credit card is a pretty good deal, especially if you have your eye on digital only games. There’s also a $10 credit if you buy $40 of Amazon gift cards. Stack those together and you could get a $50 eshop card effectively for $28. Use that on something discounted from full price and that’s a great deal. Kind of surprised by the negativity here.
I picked up a physical copy of Fire Emblem for $40 with the prime member deal after doing the gift card thing. I’m treating that like a $30 purchase and calling it a win. Nintendo games are never that cheap.
Hoping we get details and revised dates for what was coming soon... Bravely Default, No More Heroes, Bayonetta 3, Sports Story. If at least one is covered, that would be nice from a goodwill perspective. I’d also love the EA update (makes sense) and a surprise. Could we see something like Battletoads on Switch? Older GTA games?
Good stuff. I really enjoyed Sonic Mania, and I’ve heard TSR is fun too. Lot of complaints here for Sega putting the two best recent Sonic games on one cart (maybe that’s debatable... I don’t think so).
Wish list - I also think Sega could make some good money by bundling the classic Sega Genesis (and maybe the CD and Game Gear) games with Mania on one cart.
Dang. That’s it - the final straw. The only thing I wanted to see tomorrow morning.
We now have confirmation that 2020, which was originally expected to be delayed until 2022, has now been officially canceled. By me. Fans would be upset, but 2020 has less fans than Geist on GameCube. So no one is mad.
@MeowMeowKins I mean, I wasn’t saying it was amazing. But it kind of was the “killer app” for the Wii that everyone and their grandmother (literally) owned. Maybe pack-ins are excluded from this list though?
@SwitchVogel Agree that this whole list is really interesting. Yes, the more niche entries are surprising, but it also makes me wonder about the games with broad appeal that are not on the list. I would have thought Wii Sports and Mario Kart 8 might be on here, for example.
This is a little bit of a silly argument. It’s not ransom to say that you won’t make a sequel if the first in the series doesn’t sell. Doesn’t that just make business sense? When a developer decides to fund a game or not, they have to consider how much they think it will cost to make and how much it would sell.
@WhiteTrashGuy me too. I loved that game as a kid. The platforming was fun and the sound effects and music were great too. Hearing “Wipeout“ always makes me think of the ending.
Banana blitz hd was just on free play for Xbox... could have been a way to get people invested in the brand and characters before an announcement. I’m not a marketing guy, but that would make sense! Sega’s going to announce something in the Guerilla Collective showcase between today and Monday. 1&2 remaster sounds right!
I picked up Firewatch too. That’s the game I’ve been waiting for a sale on, and it was a big one! Considering getting Thronebreaker, but haven’t taken the plunge yet...
@JeanPaul Astral Chain is worth it. It’s oozing cool, feels like you’re playing a Hong Kong action version of a monster movie and is really unique. Plus new IP that’s really good!
@Francema I think Tropical Freeze is worth the price. It probably wouldn’t be my top choice at that price, but it’s a fun, charming and actually pretty dang difficult game.
There are tons of great EA games that I’d welcome on the Switch. It’s kind of silly that The Sims and PvZ Garden Warfare haven’t made it over - and I’d be surprised if EA isn’t looking at Animal Crossing and realizing that they have games that work well for that casual gamer.
Just like everyone else, I’d love to see Mass Effect and Dead Space and Dragon Age. I also think the arcade-y sports games in the mode of SSX, NBA Street, NBA Jam and Fight Night. The older Burnout games would be cool too. I don’t think Jedi Fallen Order could work without huge compromises - it kind of chugs on the other consoles already.
@PlayedNSlayed @Nye1779 I’m not, but the EMEA sales are often discounted same day and not marketed in the US or end up being discounted in the US shortly after. Thanks for the heads up on retail being cheaper! It looks like it’s 25% off physical here too.
@Milton_Burle I know! It’s too bad it hasn’t been ready sooner. Wouldn’t it have been awesome to have that come out when all real sports were shutting down? Hopefully it’s coming soon!
I actually think these look really pretty cool - and at face value, four games and a mini console isn’t that bad of a price if you compare it to the price of something like the Mario LEGO set. Toys are way more expensive than you remember! This could even be a good starter handheld for kids since you can’t upsell on the device and it’s not that expensive to replace.
My only issue is that they look too small to actually enjoy playing if you’re, you know, over the age of 5. Which is funny, because when these things came out originally, they were kind of huge.
@Tyranexx ha! I never played Other M. Was it really that bad? I actually enjoyed Sticker Star and would be game for ports of all the Paper Mario and Marion and Luigi games. The art style and humor totally holds up and would be perfect for Switch - not sure how many had weird mechanics that would need to be reworked though. Not that I’d be sad to no longer have to blow air at a microphone or use a stylus.
@HarryHyruleHero ha! That may be my personal worst case scenario. I never “got” the appeal of Pilotwings. But there are other options like the Mario time travel game to consider
Lower your expectations, people! You’ll never be disappointed that way. Here’s my worst case scenario prediction:
Nintendo Game 1: Geist HD Remaster Nintendo Game 2: New Zelda! But it’s a port of Wand of Gamelon Nintendo Game 3: Pilotwings reboot Nintendo Game 4: Mario Paint (Mouse and keyboard required)

Re: Astral Chain Is Now Fully Owned By Nintendo, Says PlatinumGames
This could also be a defensive move ahead of a merger to avoid a case where an IP is owned by competing platforms.
Re: Astral Chain Is Now Fully Owned By Nintendo, Says PlatinumGames
Grasshopper Manufacture would make sense maybe, and Next Level games has a lot of talent building iterations of established ideas.
Re: Astral Chain Is Now Fully Owned By Nintendo, Says PlatinumGames

Re: Soapbox: It’s Time For A Pokémon Trading Card Game Reboot On Switch
@Archius9 agree! I love the conceit in Hearthstone single player and Gwent that some cards are locked behind specific opponents.

@Chimera_Police quick correction, the 25% back is only if it’s charged to your card. But still.

@Silly_G nice. I would wear a ridiculous police dog costume for some Astral Chain merch.
