Re: Review: The Last Faith (Switch) - A Moody, If Stuttery, Blasphemous-Style Soulslike

Not liking how in 2023 even 2D metroidvanias are experiencing performance troubles on Switch. Afterimage is another metroidvania with 2D graphics released earlier this year that’s on sale currently and looked interesting to me, but then I read that it too has performance issues (mentioned in the NL review and elsewhere). Seems like no game is safe from stutters and framerate dips on Switch these days, not even the most basic 2D ones. Come on developers, do better.

Re: Splatoon 3 Version 5.2.0 Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

That catalogue bonus is a nice surprise. I’ve been completely burnt out on Splatoon recently due to the seemingly endless grinding needed for the catalogue. I only got to level 10 in this season as I just couldn’t force myself to play every single day for the daily points bonus anymore. Anything that makes progressing the catalogue less of a slog is welcome.

Re: Random: This Drink Driving Game Is A Nasty Blemish On The Switch eShop

Cakefish

As others have pointed out, this is no different from the dangerous driving, theft, and murderous rampages you can do in games like GTA or Saints Row etc. Or how about those strategy games where you can enslave your opponents or genocide them.

So the only actual issue here is the age rating. Plus, the fact it looks like a poorly made shovelware game.

Re: Nintendo Updates Pikmin 4 To Version 1.0.2, Here's What's Included

Cakefish

Super interesting that Nintendo would specifically call out faster loading times on internal storage. I can’t remember them ever communicating that to customers before so it must make a decent difference in this game if they bothered to mention it here. Time to shuffle some games around so I can fit Pikmin 4 on internal storage.

Re: Beyond Good And Evil 20th Anniversary Edition Has Been Rated For Switch

Cakefish

Nice to see another old classic come to Switch (psst Microsoft, port Psychonauts to Switch!). I just hope they have done the game justice in the remastering and been able to remove some of the jank in way the game controls. It’s a game with a lot of heart, but is showing its age, so hopefully gets some nice QoL upgrades in this version.

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo IP Should 'Switch 2' Launch With?

Cakefish

I was holding out hope that Metroid Prime 4 would be a late 2023 release, but after the latest Direct it’s clear that’s not happening and it’s very much 2024 release. So seems inevitable it’ll be a launch title. I think it’ll be cross-gen with Switch, in the same way as Breath of the Wild or Twilight Princess were.

Re: Switch Sales Have Only Now Surpassed The Xbox One In The UK

Cakefish

Surprising, as I know many people around my age group in their 20s-30s that have one and not just my immediate social circle but work colleagues too. So maybe this is more of a sign of how shockingly well Xbox One did rather than how poorly Switch is doing?

Also, the small country thing is a bit odd reasoning. We have the worst public transport system in the western world, so there’s plenty of long journeys to be had!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 10th)

Cakefish

Splatoon 3 of course. Loving it so far. All the little improvements really add up to make it a more refined experience vs 2, which was previously my favourite Switch game until now. I’ll have very limited internet connection over the next couple weeks so I’m making the most of the multiplayer modes while I still can and I’ll sink my teeth into single player when I go offline during my travels.

Re: It Looks Like Splatoon 3 Will Be Using Nintendo's In-House Server System

Cakefish

@Shredderlovespizza
Same story here. Lost it when upgrading from regular model to OLED model. At least I only lost my Splatoon 2 save and not the other games I have that also don’t support cloud saves (Dark Souls, Pokémon Sword etc.). I replayed the single player modes (including Octo Expansion) but with 3 just around the corner it seems pointless to try and level up in multiplayer again.

Re: Random: Pandemic Shooter's eShop Page Makes You Wonder If Anyone At Nintendo Checks These Things

Cakefish

I see nothing wrong with the description. It’s poking fun at conspiracy theorists and racist, homophobic grandpa - it’s not laughing with them. I think such mockery of dangerous ideologies is a good thing, no? Better to address them directly and openly mock and criticise, than try to sweep them under the rug and pretend they don’t exist - kids will find out either way and trying to keep censoring all of the nonsense will make it easier for them to fall victim to being brainwashed by the conspiracy nutcases.

Re: Nintendo's Switch Exclusive Metroid Dread Is Already Being Emulated On PC

Cakefish

@somebread Prime 4 is indeed too far into development for Nintendo to pull the plug now but what about after that? If Dread does not meet Nintendo’s sales expectations then that puts the post-Prime 4 future of the franchise in a very precarious position. I’m incredibly excited for Prime 4, but I don’t want it to be the swan song for the franchise! I want Metroid to appear on the Switch successor too, in both its 2D and 3D forms.

Re: Nintendo's Switch Exclusive Metroid Dread Is Already Being Emulated On PC

Cakefish

Infuriating. Not because I care about defending a multi million dollar company, but because this puts the future of the entire Metroid franchise in jeopardy. If this isn’t the best selling game in the series yet and if it doesn’t reach a decent sales milestone relative to other Switch games then bye bye Metroid forever. Honestly it’s kinda irresponsible for these media publications to advocate for piracy. They’re potentially going to be responsible for killing off Metroid forever. Not cool.

Re: Review: Tropico 6 - This Enjoyable Empire-Building Epic Comes With A Few Technical Niggles

Cakefish

I find it quite disturbing that Americans are so keen to censor British English from the internet. I recently saw an enraged commenter on another website bemoan the alleged overuse of the word ‘whilst’ in an article that apparently made it totally unreadable. Niggle is a perfectly common English word that has absolutely no connection to racism whatsoever. Why not try to understand and accept other cultures, rather than trying to censor and eradicate them?

Re: The Switch Version Of Shantae And The Seven Sirens Has Been Delayed In Europe

Cakefish

Very disappointing and frustrating (seeing as it's only Europe/Oceania impacted). This was going to be my main weekend game. I just completed Pirate's Curse for the second time yesterday in preparation for this game and it reminded me just how good the series can be.

Maybe I'll buy Half Genie Hero to fill in the time or maybe I'll try and find a workaround to buy it from the American eShop.
