@Indielink True, there are games that benefit from being shorter. My favorite example, which isn't a horror game, is ABZÛ. The atmosphere and the experience seems longer than the few hours it takes to finish it, plus it gives you the option to spend more time in exploring, kind of like Alien Isolation where many places open up for you to explore early on.
The problem with horror games, or games in general, when they become too long is that they tend to make you feel like you're doing the same routine.
Personally, I tend to judge a horror game by how dieing in it is handled. If I inevitably die often, then I lose the tension I had built up and the atmosphere drops completely, especially if they're cheap deaths. A good horror game is one that makes you always survive by just the smallest margins, though having the screen constantly blink red is just annoying...
@aresius I've played every big horror game, and Alien Isolation is still on top as the best one in terms of gameplay and atmosphere! I don't get why people complained about it being too long, it's more bang for the buck...
Personally, I find these controllers to look horrible. Double dpad? What were they thinking? Why not just make dual 3ds control sticks?
@Lordplops It's definetely possible with a hardware modification to get tv out, though that wouldn't be very accessible to the masses and probably too extreme for many.
This kinda looks like a continuation of those 3D contras that began on the PS1(or was it later?). My favorite contra game is still Contra 4 and if they'd just licensed a remaster of that I'd be happy. That game needs more attention than it got
1. Even if some of the cost is used to maintain the rom servers, this is not a thing to do towards games that are currently available to be paid for.
2. Since the Switch got hacked so quickly I've been disappointed in Nintendo for not spending more on security. Sure the exploit was on nvidia's side, but that doesn't leave Nintendo without any responsibility. Just look at the other companies, there's hardly as much talk about hacking them because either it's too hard for the average user, or it doesn't open many possibilities. Switch hacking, however, gives people many possibilities that were strangely omitted by Nintendo, and almost everyone can do it. Actually, all consoles are made from components from other companies. Cpu from AMD? GPU from Nvidia/AMD? Sure, it's a bit different this time since the whole console (basically an Nvidia Shield) was delivered from Nvidia, but there's nothing saying Nintendo could've spent more to ensure the systems security was better.
The other companies have been able to drive users away from hacking their systems by offering a good online service, as well. Some features are clearly lacking from Nintendo's side, though I do applaud them for the VC features like online play.
Also, if we shouldn't think we have a need to preserve things, then let's just stop and watch rhinos go extinct within the next 50 years (probably a lot sooner). The rhinos never told us they wanted to be preserved so why should we make sure they still exist for their specie's sake and for our own and our future generations' sakes. Preservation is such a bad thing, no? What if I really wanted to experience Chrono Cross in my life, but I never could because it never got a rerelease/remake and maybe by the time it did let's say in 10 years I had already died in an accident, then oh well. Too bad. And yes, I am aware that certain humans are responsible for killing too many rhinos. My point is an argument towards the "preservation is never needed" argument above.
Either that or you can look into Discounts on my Nintendo. Every remake of a game is preceded by a discount of a previous version, usually just before its announcement.
When I read SNES on Nintendo Switch Online I immediately thought it would be a list of multiplayer games, but only a third of them were. Weird when I feel the main attraction to the Switch online VC is its ability to play multiplayer online.
Nintendo and 2nd party games are a given, so we will definitely see these:
Super Mario World 1+2
Super Metroid
Super Mario All-Stars? (would be great to have with online play too)
Super Mario Kart
Kirby Super Star
Kirby's Dream Land 3
TLo Zelda A Link to the Past
Donkey Kong Country 1-3
Super Mario RPG
Now let's get into the multiplayer games I'd love to see:
All Super Bombermans (especially a translated 4 and 5)
Final Fantasy V
Final Fight 1-3
Ghoul Patrol and Zombies ate my Neighbors
Pocky and Rocky 1+2
Pop'n Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventures
All 3 Mickey's Magical Quest games (even if the third game is in Japanese)
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Lost Vikings 1+2
The Great Battle IV+V (in Japanese)
Personally, I'd love a Crash Bash remake. Such a great mario party game boasting a sweet 2 player coop campaign. Although, I wouldn't mind if they lowered the difficulty in single player a notch or two...
@Priceless_Spork I was gonna say I was surprised Activision made Archon but I saw the later posts about how it is EA. Gladius would be nice but I'm afraid it caters to few people, which is different from Spyro and Crash that had a big established fanbase.
I came here looking for what other franchises they own but it seems like they don't own many I care too much for.
@SpicyBurrito16 Finally someone else that enjoyed Re:Coded. I never understood why people hated it. The graphics are amazing for the DS and the leveling up system is sweet.
Just finished going thru the database and there were 32 pages so I don't know about those 19 pages mentioned in the article.
The DS is among my favorite systems. The games I gave the top rating are the ones I would still return to. Some of the less mentioned ones are:
Contra 4
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (Yay for the 3DS Fan-Translation!)
Final Fantasy 4 Heroes of Light
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time
Pac-Pix
Sonic Colours
Sonic Rush
Losing ownership? OK, let's forget about the fan backlash, and think about how one of the original creators of Sonic, Yuji Naka, went out and apologized for how the first CG Sonic looked. Why did he have to do that when he has nothing to do with making the film? It's because he has some ownership, maybe not legally, but creatively of the character. If he is so disappointed about how a character he co-created turned out, then maybe changing the character is a good idea.
If you ever wanted full ownership, you should have invented your own character. Sure they might have paid all the licenses to use Sonic for this movie, but by no means do they have full ownership.
If I borrow someone's bike for 1 hour does that make me the owner of the bike during that hour? Partly, yes, but if I break the bike while borrowing it I have to answer to the true owner.
"Taken on its own merits, Team Sonic Racing is a fun karting game that doesn’t quite match Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in terms of either performance or sheer level of content."
I don't care much for this game, but what does this sentence even mean? If you take it on its own merits you shouldn't go straight to comparing it to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. That is not what taking something on its own merits means....
@Bankaj @Racthet916 Haha no problem. I've put more than 80 hours on this game in local coop purely so this error got spotted quickly. I found this game when looking for a modern take on the Heroes of Might and magic gameplay though ultimately I find the game more similar, or maybe a mix, of that and Dragon Quest IX.
I've been playing this a lot on PC with two friends. Do note that what the Review says in the beginning about the characters being randomly picked is completely wrong. You pick your class and customize your looks before you start the game.
@retro_player_22
What? The Analogue Mega SG plays Mega CD games? I thought you had to get the 200$ addon for that and that it was just supported. In that case it's a steal.
So far only 4 games for the west have been announced that are compatible with the 6-button controller:
Beyond Oasis/Story of Thor
Comix Zone
Shinobi 3
Street Fighter 2 SCE
For Japan there's only one more game in total:
Comix Zone
Dyna Brothers 2
The Story of Thor
Street Fighter 2 SCE
Yu Yu Hakusho
Either a lot more 6-button controller games are yet to be announced, or the reasoning for this choice is a bit thin. I don't really mind though. I don't play Street Fighter.
@Morrow Also, I have both DS Lite, DSi, N3DS and N2DS and for DS games the colors look less washed out on the DS Lite than all the others.. However my hands have gotten too big to use the DS Lite over time without no hand grip attached... Plus the DS Lite is insanely cheap. Not that the DSi can't be found for cheap now. One benefit to it is that a very few games have enhancements, like Pokémon Black 2/White 2 allowing wifi through WPA connection, and btw there's a fully functioning wfc replacement up and running that just requires some adjustments in the settings.
@k4therin3 Yeah, good points, but why would DS ports be so difficult? I mean Ff3 and FFIV both got ports and remasters so I totally see a port of 4 Heroes of Light as possible since it's from the same team and probably uses the same engine as those two.
For the Crystal Chronicles, I don't know. It would be nice to have a collection of them. I don't know much about wiiware ports that have been made other than.... Hmm... World of Goo, some TellTales games, LostWinds 2, and Swords & Soldiers. None of them from Square Enix anyways.
@k4therin3 Thanks. So I checked what games actually are exclusive and only spin-offs/side stories come up. If we ignore android/ios as a platform Nintendo has most exclusives, not to add any fuel to the fire. Basically Nintendo currently has: FF Mystic Quest FFCC Ring of Fates FFCC Echoes of Time FFCC Crystal Bearers FFCC My Life as a King/Darklord FF 4 Heroes of Light FF Tactics Advance FF Tactics A2 FFXII Revenant Wings FF Explorers Many of them being in the Crystal Chronicles sub-series. Hopefully they'll get ported like the first one is being now, so that we can get an update in the graphics and accessibility. Sony on the other hand has: Dissidia Dissidia 012 Dissidia NT Dirge of Cerberus FFVII Crisis Core FFVII
@k4therin3 I'd never thought about FF8 only being on PS1, thanks. However, characters from it have shown up in other games on different consoles. Kingdom Hearts is the first to come to mind for me. Though, I don't know if Squall etc. shows up in any of the releases on non-Sony consoles, but I would be surprised if he didn't.
@calcetto About the Nintendo directs. Could you ever imagine Nintendo straight up come out and say "We're not adding Western characters because we are cautious about it. That's why we add Piranha plant instead. Next up Goomba and then maybe we'll consider a Western Character." I don't either.
Of course they are gonna say that it is because it has to have been on one of their consoles, even if that is kind of weak as an argument. Many western characters have been on their consoles several times, even more so than ones they have added (like Cloud). Easy examples are Rayman, Banjo-Kazooie, Steve, Spyro, Crash, Assassin's Creed guy etc..
Also, I realized Halo and Xbox is not that popular in Japan so I see it quite difficult that MC gets added. Erdrick/Roto is a good example why popularity of a character in Japan matters more than the opposite for third party franchises.
@Mattman1156 yeah and I liked your post cus you're right about K.Rool which the same is valid for Diddy Kong. However, I looked up Starfox, and Argonaut (the UK devs) made the 3D stuff, Nintendo did the character designs. Still K.Rool and Diddy Kong are the most Western characters we have. Whether you consider it as adequate or not to say that Smash has Western characters because of this, is up to you. I feel it isn't truely Western since Donkey Kong is Nintendo.
@Sabrewing Thanks, I didn't know. I only checked Fox since I knew Argonaut was involved in development of Star Fox but I found Nintendo made the Characters. Figured they did the same with DKC but I was wrong. Still no western franchises. Assist trophies don't really count in my opinion since they are so many. I'm sure there's more than Shovel Knight, though?
Adding Master Chief should be easy. Edit: There was a Spartan character in Dead or Alive 4 for the Xbox 360 already.
Also, all characters in Smash have Japanese origin. Edit: They all come from Japanese franchises. I have difficulties seeing Crash, Spyro and Master Chief being added for this reason, but Master Chief would be my best bet.
So, I just came back from amazon and what sega seriously needs to do is to get rid of or at least get the official new mega drive mini to show up before the hundreds of others that have been made...
@retro_player_22 Does it say that it uses usb controllers? I haven't found anywhere where it says that but it would be great in that case. So many good controllers for the MD are coming out and have come out. Like the 8bitdo or the officially licensed retrobit controllers, they're all usb so they would make a perfect match.
@BlueOcean Concerning S3&K, what would be a great solution would be if SEGA get someone to make custom music for it, of course inspired by the originals, and just patch it in, like let's say Tee Lopes of Sonic Mania fame! It would be the best way to shut those money-sucking people up.
Btw let's take a moment to celebrate fact that they add the option to change region and make that change the name of the game, this was a shame with the Snes where you had Contra 3 and not Super Probotector. That means Castlevania will change name and so I imagine they will have to have both roms on there (since there are distinct differences between them). This makes me believe there will then be the possibility to run the games in the pal 50hz standard for those that prefer that out of nostalgia. After all that is what this system is for.
I speculate that they wouldn't go through the hassel of doing this unless there were more games that would change names, which brings us to the possibilities we have: Contra Hard Corps/Probotector Crusader of Centy/Soleil Beyond Oasis/The Story of Thor Sonic 3D Blast/Flickies Island (would be awesome to get the new director's cut version) Streets of Rage 2/Streets of Rage II TMNT Hyperstone Heist/TMHT Return of Shredder
I would hope some sports games would be there, just cus I know many people in the west went to sega for that but I imagine licensing would be hard for these.
@Elvie yuzu koshiro is making the menu music. That should be evidence enough that streets of rage and shinobi will be there. I mean there's almost double the amount of games compared to the snes classic.
Having said that, all the phantasy star games will probably be there as well seeing this
Personally I hope they include some of the now expensive genesis games, which Castlevania is one they already added. Other games that go for a lot of money now would be:
MUSHA
Crusader of Centy/Soleil
Alien Soldier
Also, if they add Turtles Hyper Stone Heist, that would be a blow at Nintendo for not adding the equivalent for the SNES classic, since it's probably the game most people were wanting.

Re: Sega Mega Drive Mini Launches Worldwide This September
So, I just came back from amazon and what sega seriously needs to do is to get rid of or at least get the official new mega drive mini to show up before the hundreds of others that have been made...
Re: Sega Mega Drive Mini Launches Worldwide This September
@retro_player_22 Does it say that it uses usb controllers? I haven't found anywhere where it says that but it would be great in that case. So many good controllers for the MD are coming out and have come out. Like the 8bitdo or the officially licensed retrobit controllers, they're all usb so they would make a perfect match.
Re: Sega Mega Drive Mini Launches Worldwide This September
@BlueOcean Concerning S3&K, what would be a great solution would be if SEGA get someone to make custom music for it, of course inspired by the originals, and just patch it in, like let's say Tee Lopes of Sonic Mania fame! It would be the best way to shut those money-sucking people up.
Re: Sega Mega Drive Mini Launches Worldwide This September
Btw let's take a moment to celebrate fact that they add the option to change region and make that change the name of the game, this was a shame with the Snes where you had Contra 3 and not Super Probotector. That means Castlevania will change name and so I imagine they will have to have both roms on there (since there are distinct differences between them). This makes me believe there will then be the possibility to run the games in the pal 50hz standard for those that prefer that out of nostalgia. After all that is what this system is for.
I speculate that they wouldn't go through the hassel of doing this unless there were more games that would change names, which brings us to the possibilities we have:
Contra Hard Corps/Probotector
Crusader of Centy/Soleil
Beyond Oasis/The Story of Thor
Sonic 3D Blast/Flickies Island (would be awesome to get the new director's cut version)
Streets of Rage 2/Streets of Rage II
TMNT Hyperstone Heist/TMHT Return of Shredder
I would hope some sports games would be there, just cus I know many people in the west went to sega for that but I imagine licensing would be hard for these.
Re: Sega Mega Drive Mini Launches Worldwide This September
Re: Nintendo Forgot That You Can't Complete StarTropics Without The Original NES Manual
So essentially anti-piracy from 1990 still works. Fantastic
Re: Rumour: Link's Awakening Might Not Be The Only Zelda Game Released In 2019

Re: Nintendo Celebrates Mario Day With Lots Of Mario Game Discounts (North America)
Why is only North America getting the discounts lately? We want the ubisoft and these rewards too...
Re: Review: Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn - A Timeless Classic That Feels Right At Home On 3DS
I feel they ignore too much the fact that COOP has been omitted.
Re: Hardware Review: 8BitDo M30 - The Best Retro Controller On Switch
