Huge missed opportunity by Nintendo to extend the life of this console by not upgrading the processor.
The one and only thing I was holding out for was a better CPU with possible 4K support. Never have and never will play the switch undocked so this doesn't interest me whatsoever.
I couldn't care less about an update to the Switch's screen or battery life. I have no interest whatsoever of ever playing my switch in handheld mode.
Please, Nintendo, just give me a dedicated tv box that's powerful enough to play next gen games without compromise along with all of the great first party stuff.
Overall, I'm not too pleased with everything that I've been reading about this collection. Emulated ports of old Mario games with very little, if any improvements all sold at a premium price. In the case of Sunshine, apparently the controls are WORSE than they were on the GC. All seems like a lazy cash grab opportunity to me.
If I weren't such a huge Nintendo/Mario fan, I'd probably would have skipped this one.
I've owned almost every major console from every big player (Nintendo, Sega, Sony, Microsoft) since the N64 generation of consoles. I couldn't imagine owning JUST Nintendo consoles my whole life. I would have missed out on some amazing games over the years. That said, some of my most memorable gaming experiences have been on a Nintendo console. If I HAD to choose only one console every generation, it would most likely be a Nintendo console.
Took the day off of work to try and secure one after I found out late last night that pre-orders started going live. Spent the whole morning / early afternoon refreshing retailer's landing pages and scouring the web for real time info about when it was going up for sale at each retailer. Sad to say, I was unable to pre-order even just ONE SNES Classic. I'm am so disgusted with this whole fiasco, especially after getting my original pre-order canceled from Walmart. I've come to the decision that I will no longer try to give Nintendo another dime of my hard-earned money. If a friend or a loved one can find one and wants to buy it for me, that's fine, but I refuse to give Nintendo my money when they obviously don't want it. Also, I absolutely refuse to bend over and pay a scalper hundreds of dollars for one. Never thought I'd say this, but I will by buying a Raspberry Pi to emulate Nintendo games in the future.
PS - Even though I'm super salty about not being able to snag one, I still want to congratulate the few of you non scalpers who were able to beat the bots and secure one for yourselves or a friend.
WTF are these retailers doing?!? Walmart canceling all their pre-orders, no email notifications from BB or Amazon, opening orders when most people in the U.S. are sleeping? Ninty isn't without blame either. They're the only company I know of that has people begging to give them their hard-earned money for their products and they don't seem to care. This whole situation has me so disgusted I might just say F-it and not even buy one even if I do get the opportunity.
@Nico07 Just checked Wal-Mart's site out of curiosity and my order is still "processing" as well. Hopefully it'll slip through the cracks and not get cancelled after all. I know not likely, but it's a nice thought.
F my life! Just got the dreaded Walmart pre-order cancellation email... Thought I might be in the clear considering i didn't get one right away. I was so excited that I was awake and able to secure one when pre-orders went live. Now i feel like Walmart just cowpied all over me. A big F you to Walmart for this whole fiasco and an F you to Nintendo for not manufacturing enough of these to meet customer demand!
@Henmii This is exactly how I feel about the Switch! I very much dislike the concept of the Switch, but I'll need to get one eventually if I want to play the latest and greatest Nintendo games.
On top of that, there are really only a few Nintendo franchises that I care about these days - Zelda, Mario and Metroid. Essentially, I'll be spending hundreds on a console I don't like only to be able to play a handful of games over the course of it's life.
Never thought I'd say this, but it's time for Nintendo to go software exclusive. I'm playing BOTW right now on the WiiU and while I find the game to be incredible so far, I find myself wondering how much better it would be on a more powerful console like the PS4 or XBone. At the very least, frame rates would be more stable.
Specs definitely matter. They matter more to some than others, but they matter none-the-less. They don't matter as much as well designed games with great art direction, but the better the specs, the better said games will ultimately look, play and feel.
F*** scalpers and f*** Nintendo for not even attempting to meet demand for the NES classic. They did the same thing with the Wii.
As much as I would love to have one now, there's no way in hell I would pay some scumbag scalper on scambay hundreds of dollars for one. I'll be patient and wait until they're overflowing on store shelves.
I just want a HOME version without the screen and silly "Joy-Con" controllers. I don't even care if it's underpowered for a home console, as long as it has great first party games. There's no need for people who don't game on handhelds to buy a console with a screen and detachable controllers if it's never going to be taken out of it's dock.
Not sure how I feel about the black and grey. Looks a bit industrial and not very Nintendo like. Would like to see it in white with different colored A, B, X & Y buttons.
Also, not a big fan of the name "Switch" or the logo. Just seems a bit generic and uninspired.
Hate to sound like a negative Nancy, but this is almost the exact opposite of what I was hoping Nintendo's next console would be. Have never been interested in handheld gaming in 37 years so the whole hybrid / portable aspect doesn't interest me in the least. Fortunately, the reveal didn't come as a huge shock because of all the leaks, but I'm disappointed none-the-less.
That said, however, I am happy to see a general overwhelming positive reaction from the majority of people. It seems as though most really like the hybrid concept even if I and a few other don't. Perhaps this system will help turn the tide and push Nintendo back on top. That would be good thing for all gamers, fans of the NS console or not.
Pretty much exactly what everyone expected. Personally, I couldn't care less about portable gaming so this new concept doesn't do anything for me. Still holding out hope that the base unit is more than just a dock and will include an additional processor to improve the fidelity of games when plugged in. I will still get one because I am a life-long Nintendo fan and love their games, but I was hoping for something a little more traditional. I am glad to see, however, that it's generating a lot of excitement among gamers.
Nintendo is just going to give us a little taste this year, just a reminder that the NX is still coming next year and little else. If they unveil everything now, the hype will get lost over the holiday season with all the excitement and marketing surrounding the PS4 Pro, XB1S and the big holiday games. I expect a full unveiling in January with a launch, hopefully still, in March. If the NX gets pushed back, I would expect it to get pushed to holiday 2017 with perhaps an unveiling at E3.
60FPS>30FPS in most cases, but I'm fine with 30 as long as the game is visually stunning. I would rather see a game with better textures, resolution, draw distance, etc and sacrifice some FPS as long as it's a stable 30 minimum.
I think $299 USD will be the launch price of the NX. I feel like it'll be a hard sell if it's more than the base PS4 / XB1. Less than $299 would be nice, but I can't see Nintendo selling these at a loss.
Nintendo will want to get these into as many hands as possible. The only way that they're going to do that is to price the system aggressively. Let's be real for a minute. Nintendo is in a rough spot and their consoles are secondary consoles in a lot of households these days. No matter what the NX ends up being, most non-diehards aren't going to jump on the bandwagon unless it's priced to move.
I feel it's aged fairly well. There are some frustrating camera issues, but it's mostly still a solid game 20 years later. I go back and play it again once every couple of years or so.
Would love to see Ninty remake this game with modern graphics, updated camera and include all the things they had to leave out of the original. Probably never happen though.
Welp, that just confirmed it - I could never be a game coder. He may as well just been speaking in gibberish because I didn't understand a thing he was explaining. My head hurts after watching that. Anyway, the actual glitch is interesting, but I could have done without the in-depth explanation of how it was accomplished.
Thought it was just an OK Zelda game. Definitely not my favorite, but not my least favorite either. I also didn't mind the motion control 1 to 1 sword play. That said, I would play it again, but only if it were remastered in HD. Can't stand going back and looking at those blurry, grainy SD Wii graphics. I would think / hope that Ninty would eventually remaster it seeing as they gave WW and TTP the HD treatment.
I have never been less excited for a new Nintendo console in my entire life and I've been around for the launch of all of them. I hate to sound like a pessimist, but nothing about these rumors of the NX sparks my interest - and it definitely sounds like I'm not alone.
That said, I am happy to hear that there are fans that are genuinely excited for the NX. The last thing I want to see is Nintendo struggle with another unpopular, lackluster console.
Trying to stay hopeful that Nintendo comes out and surprises and delights us all with the official unveiling.
@Sasafras I sincerely hope that you're wrong, but I have a feeling that you hit the nail right on the head. I'm an old school gamer and long time Nintendo fan, but I, like many other 'hardcore' gamers, aren't really the target demographic for Nintendo and haven't been for a while. They've been stuck on trying to capture, or recapture as it were, the casual and younger crowd with their 'blue ocean' strategy since the Wii. This means a lower spec'd out console for lower barrier of entry and more 'casual' types of experiences across the board.
@A01 I honestly wouldn't be super surprised if Nintendo waited until the last second to officially unveil the NX. I dont think they necessarily will, but it's a possibility. They could be afraid that revealing it too early might affect sales of the WiiU and 3DS for the remainder of the year if the NX ends up being a replacement for both.
It's really neat to actually get to see the genuine article after hearing about the fabled Nintendo Playstation many years ago. It's also very interesting to think about what might have been and where gaming would be today if these two industry giants continued to collaborate throughout the years.
That's pretty darn impressive! SMW is my all time favorite Mario game. Have been playing it since the day it came out and I probably couldn't beat it in twice that amount of time WITHOUT a blindfold. Major props!
Don't know about all this Doki Doki Panic stuff, but Mario 2 was easily my favorite NES Mario game and probably my second favorite Mario game of all time. I must have beat that game around 50 times when I was a kid. Have been meaning to go back an play it again on the VC.
I don't get Nintendo. They are obviously innovators in the gaming space introducing things like motion controls, second screens, etc., but they take the 'wait and see' approach far too often with other important technologies, things like HD visuals, online and VR. They want to be bold, but conservative at the same time which ultimately leads them to fall behind the competition. It's almost like if they didn't come up with the idea themselves, it's completely unimportant. In that regard, I feel like they don't genuinely have gamer's best interests at heart. Why can't they be innovative while also keeping up with other industry trends? I get that they don't want to be just clones of their rivals, but they don't have to be. They could still provide gamers with up to date tech while also creating other new, fun and innovative ways to play their games.
I'm very curious to see what people's reactions are to the demos, but I will not be watching any footage, nor would I play a demo if it was released on the eshop. I would prefer not to spoil anything for when the game eventually comes out. I'm hoping Nintendo doesn't give away too much in these demos because It'll be tough to avoid coming across any spoilers after E3.
I LOVE the idea of the NX using cartridges in one form or another! The prospect of this has me more excited than any other rumor I've heard so far about Nintendo's new console. I'll admit, disc based games were cool when they first came out. They also definitely had some key advantages over carts, but a modern cart could potentially negate those advantages. Not only that, but they would have faster load times and less of a chance of being damaged by careless kids.
On a side note, I know it's pretty much inevitable, but I'm not a big fan of the current trend of everything going completely digital. For me personally, a digital version of a game has far less perceived value than a physical copy of a game whether it be disc or cart. I understand the convenience of going digital for a lot of people, but I dread the day when I'll no longer be able to purchase a physical copy of a new game.
