Speedrunning is an impressive feat in and of itself. Gamers spend countless hours of their lives memorizing games' structure and design to the point that they understand nearly every bump, crack, and crevice, all in order to beat the game as fast as humanly possible. Very few are capable of competing with the very best in this field, but some people just take it to the next level, such as a gamer who just broke the world record for a run of Super Mario World while blindfolded.
The run in question was performed on a Japanese livestream, where a fan completed a run of the game in 17 minutes and 46 seconds all without seeing anything. He doesn't utilize glitches to do it, and while there isn't much fancy platforming going on, the fact that it's all being done by audio cues and raw muscle memory is nothing short of amazing. Check it out:
What do you think? How long will it be before the record is beaten again? Have you managed to complete Super Mario World at all? Drop us a comment in the section below.

I have finished the game but speed running is not my thing. Congrats to the dude that broke the record! I do enjoy watching people practice speed running on twitch!
Okay, that's taking it to the next level
Behold: the modern form of Bushido at the height of it's mastery, the blindfolded speed run. It is not enough to know the game. You must BE the game. Let it flow through you...
Honestly, I don't understand how you could manage this. How does he remember it all?!
@MitchVogel A sneaky capital A stuck its way into the last paragraph.
HAve you managed to complete Super Mario World at all?
that's amazing! speedrunners are awesome anyway, but that's just incredible.
@MitchVogel Much as the blind swordmaster feels the wind and kinetic movements in subtle, wavelike patterns, the blind game master must feel the movement of Mario's legs as if they were their own. They must be able to see as Mario sees, in their mind's eye. Yes. They must BE the Mario.
Or just use The Force. That works too.
@Knuckles Gah! How'd that get there?
I'm playing through Super Mario World right now and by golly it's a challenging game.
I believe he's excited. Nicely done, kid. Very cool.
That's pretty darn impressive! SMW is my all time favorite Mario game. Have been playing it since the day it came out and I probably couldn't beat it in twice that amount of time WITHOUT a blindfold. Major props!
Need some steak and shake now.
Let me know when someone finishes a game blindfolded AND with no sound. lol
Impressive run, almost didn't make it at the very end.
