NA's ended months ago and it sucked. They had a game case and a Puzzle. And they put all the games they ever offered on there up. That;s pretty much it. You have no idea how lucky you are.
I have to say, the Japanese version is more bizarre. Probably because I don't know a word in Japanese, but still, something about it is just more...Mind-numbingly insanity-inducing.
I can feel it turning my brain into mush just watching it...Heaven forbid they start doing something even more potent.
@thatguyEZ Yeah, I have kinda mixed feelings on it too. If you're going to make a glorified action figure (a cheap on at that, really a display figure) and charge 13$ a pop, with it's only other functions a basic storage device and unlocking a tiny bonus feature in an already expensive game, I can see why people would want to pirate it.
If Amiibo were a way of unlocking DLC for a cheap game to get full access, then maybe it would be worth it. But 20$ for a mega mushroom or a costume in Super Mario Maker? Really?!
There just isn't a compelling reason to buy an Amiibo unless you're a collector.
@Miss_Dark It was actually quite good in my opinion. Was it a full game built on plot? No, but it was a really fun party game. Good controls, no glitches, excellent use of the gamepad (honestly the only game I have played that used it very well). Clearly a lot of time and effort was put into it. They used variations of designs rather than reusing old sprites and gave a fairly unique gameplay, different from a bunch of 20 minute Demos for upcoming games.
I thought DK tropical Freeze was the uninspired one. Another sequel platformer trying to recapture the profits of an earlier game.
@readyletsgo I think it's more likely that it will be a double release, like Twilight Princess. I think they've made promises it would be released for the Wii U, there would be huge backlash if they didn't.
@BakaKnight Well, Splatoon is team based, right? I doubt that it will be that much of a massacre. Us noobs will probably be at a disadvantage, but that's how you learn best, isn't it? You spend a few matches getting killed learn the ropes and you get better.
@Great_Gonzalez Hence your name? Haha. I love Paper Mario. I'm sad to see that they're fusing it with Mario and Luigi. I just don't think it will be all that good, and if it is, they popularity will probably be from the Mario and Luigi side. I'm afraid they'll downplay the Paper Mario elements after the failure of Sticker Star.
Despite some of the mistakes he made with the Wii U, Iwata's Nintendo directs were a really great idea. They take somewhat obscure Indie games and show their progress to mainstream Nintendo players. It helped great games get the spotlight and anticipation they were due, and probably helped console sales a bit.
I seriously doubt games like Splatoon would have sold anywhere near as well without Nintendo hyping them up.
It also makes you feel like work is still being done on new games for your console without having to dig up kickstarters and small nintendo fan websites and such to find evidence of it.
Definitely a smart business decision to continue them. They keep the community involved and excited for what comes next.
What Nintendo really needs to fix/change can basically be summed up to 2 things: 1. It needs better launch marketing and advertising, especially in the west. 2. It needs to rebuild bridges with third party developers like Square Enix.
Porting Japanese releases would also help. I think they've underestimated the popularity some of their games would have in the west. And if they're not getting third party support, they might as well be porting their Japanese releases.
@gruntmints Well, the N64 and Gamecube were both commercial failures despite having some of the greatest games of all time (frankly many of them are better than 70-85% of the games out there today).
So Nintendo has survived that. And they have 3DS sales bolstering them, they've been king in handhelds since handhelds were created (from a sales perspective).
However, you make a good point. If Nintendo screws up again (which, by the way, has nothing to do with the quality of the Wii U, it's a great console. Had they waited to release a few months and improve it's design, it would have been incredible. Bad Marketing on Nintendo's part, not a bad console) they may be forced to quit the home console industry. On the other hand, if NX is part of their plan to combine Mobile gaming and console gaming, it could be incredibly successful. (and it wouldn't truly be a home console).
We have 2-3 years before it's released (based on prior time between the Wii , Wii U and the Gamecube), so don't get too excited or worried. Even if they push it ahead to late next year, it's still a while off.
While this rumor isn't necessarily true, it's probably something started by a PS4 fanboy, it does point out one concern: That attitude is very much like the one Nintendo has expressed the last few years. That isn't a good sign. Exclusive games will only carry Nintendo so far. This console needs to be at least comparable to the next generation of competing consoles, and better than the current one.
If Nintendo has 4-6 years to make a console better than the last generation and doesn't, that is a serious concern. Unless it's a handheld, or something that competes in both markets, being inferior to the PS4 is unacceptable.
More seriously though, plaformer level creators are a dime a dozen. It's sometimes a free extra mode on a platformer. Point is, Nintendo needs to do this really well and/or add some extra metaphorical cherries on top that go the extra mile, like boss design or customizable power ups or making literal worlds. Heck, maybe having routine competitions would do it. They need to make it special, especially with the high asking price for what is, essentially, normally a cheap feature no one uses.
Basically just saying it needs to be way beyond any platform customization we've seen before
We've had way t0o many platformers lately. In general, moving backwords from 3D to 2D is really hard to pull off well.
Metroid has plenty of 2D games in the past that were great, but it takes a lot these days to make a platformer stand out. The mindbogglingly confusing world of the original metroid games would need to be brought back, and expanded upon.
It's likely to bomb. 3DS and Wii U double releases are also tricky to pull off. Either one is almost exactly the same as the other, or they are both crappy. For successes like Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Smash Bros, there are absolute bombs like the latest Sonic games.
If they do metroid 2D, it needs to be done well, and they need to add something new, like procedurally generated levels and some kind of online multiplayer done well. Frankly, they need to do some kind of good Online multiplayer for a 3D release as well, cause we are severely limited in online multiplayer games with active communities.
Look, the things that made Paper Mario great was that it was an immersive game. You can't immerse yourself in a screen smaller than your hand. They had great designs and stuff too. You just can't appreciate that properly on a 3ds, it doesn't feel right.
Look, the things that made Paper Mario great was that it was an immersive game. You can't immerse yourself in a screen smaller than your hand. They had great designs and stuff too. You just can't appreciate that properly on a 3ds, it doesn't feel right.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look, it's not that I think it can't be good. It could be great. But the keystone to Paper Mario is that it's a fairly text-heavy (for a Mario game) RPG, with an actual plot. I just don't see how they can make it work and still have it be a real paper Mario game.
@PlywoodStick Yeah. I think that if Nintendo released the game on disks in the same package, exactly the same as the older copies, I could understand people being upset. The problem is that clearly, a lot of people want the trilogy because they just want to play the games, not because of the inherent value of a limited edition copy of the game. It's like the problem with Skyward Sword or XenoBlade Chronicles. Copies of the game cost as much as if not more than the original price, despite being used. They are expensive because the game is excellent, but too few copies were made. They're hoarding the experience, not trying to get a fair price for a rare item.
For that reason, I don't think it was wrong at all of Nintendo to release digital copies of the game. Games should be like books, valuable as collectibles because of their nostalgia factor (as in playing Wind Waker on the GameCube, rather than the Wii U version) or if they were released in a limited edition case or something (like how signed copies of old, leather bound books can be valuable). The actual content should become less valuable over time, the medium being what the copies valuable. Forcing people to pay 100$ for a game so they can play it just because it's the only version of the game isn't right in my opinion.
@LtAldoRaine I agree wholeheartedly. Those two were by far the best. Super Paper Mario was okay, but it didn't have turn-based combat, and the two Pits of 100 trials still didn't make up for how easy the game was. I didn't play sticker star, but seeing as it's selling for 12 bucks on ebay New I take it it wasn't anything spectacular.
If this is legit, which is not too likely, the fact they called it an RPG is a good indication it will be more like it's predecessors, seeing as turn-based combat is almost always an element of RPGs. They also need to keep it a text-heavy game. Paper Mario is much less straightforward than typical Mario games, so kids who aren't old enough to read well would find it frustrating anyways
@OMC79 I agree. I'm sick of hearing people make excuses for it too. Wii U gets a terrible rep with "hardcore" gamers, but not for lack of first party titles. Clearly, the majority of the gaming community isn't smart enough to work past the difficulties of implementing their games to minimize required processing power. What annoys me more is that superior attitude, despite the fact it's sold like crap, and his sheer ignorance and stupidity. If there was no such thing as exclusive titles, we all would be playing on PCs with USB powered controllers. And the idea that it's ILLEGAL to only sell a game for one console? The reason Nintendo has a monopoly on the genre is because they're the only company with enough iconic characters and the guts to pull it off.
When was the last time Sony tried something new? At least Microsoft came up with the connect. Sony just ripped of the Wii motion control, then copied the Kinect with the Playstation eye.
Looks awesome. I'm torn on the whole water boss thing. On the one hand, the controls were a huge pain to get used to and you were slow to the point of being almost helpless. I'm glad that I don't have another set of tedious underwater missions to look forward too, but they did have some good bosses and if they made the controls better, it could be a very cool feature.
I'm hoping for a Wii U version. Frankly, I'd rather have stable Wifi, HD graphics and a big screen over shaky(at best) Wifi and 3D gameplay (which, albeit cool, doesn't add a ton to the game.
Ehh. I think the Wii U's a better deal, it's a lot cheaper and has quite a few exclusives. Vita is probably more powerful, but that doesn't mean jack squat. The nintendo 64 was more powerful than it's competition, had tons of amazing, breakthrough games that are being remade to this day, but still sold like crap. The key is mostly in marketing. Vita's marketing was bad, so it sold poorly. PS4 had great marketing, so it sold well. Wii U had bad marketing, so it sold poorly.
Whenever these companies assume that the console will magically sell itself it costs them a ton in potential revenue.
Well... It depends. If the low resolution won't really effect how it looks, which mathematically it shouldn't, then it's cool. On the other hand, I have noticed that some eight bit games that are in SD look inexplicably foggy. Not all of them mind you, but some...
Ehh, one the one hand, I'm sure he's been working hard everyday, and while it's doubtless a very good game, there have been a few odd or flat out bad decisions while making it. Removing the Ice Climbers, from BOTH versions, for instance, was a bad move. If the Mii Fighters are banned from online play, why not just restrict Ice Climbers to Wii U on Wii U matches? They aren't exceptionally popular characters, and it would at least make some people happy. And some of the roster choice seem stupid too. Lucina is a blatant clone, and several other characters are only slight variations of one another. Pac Man and the Dog from Duck Hunt weren't many people's first choice for new additions to smash bros.
Basically, I think he deserves a break, and they need some new people on the team who understand the gaming community a bit better.
GOSH DANGIT NINTENDO!!! Just when I resolved not to buy this because I don't have enough gamer friends to justify it, they release MORE features. If the reveiw is 9.5/10 or higher, I'll get it. Luckily, since this is a Nintendo game that has been highly anticipated, it should be in soon...
Excited about Ridley, otherwise indifferent. I get that it's nice to have an old character make a comeback, but I really would have preferred a character who has been overlooked for a long time, like Lloyd. On the other hand, it looks like DLC might be a bigger factor in this game than first indicated, so I'll hold out hope.
...Pardon my skepticism, but these look kinda cheap... All they did was change the button colors and stuff and put a sticker at the top of the controller. At least add some extra aesthetics in the design, and some of the colors don't even match the shade of the characters'...
Still nothing, also day 2. I've checked all my spam folders and stuff. sigh Why couldn't nintendo just do a plain old demo download??? If they thought it would bog down the eShop, that's not surprising, but looks at what's happening now!
Well, I think that may be a factor if they don't decide to do it, but think about it like this: Australia gets cut out of events and other promotional stuff all the time. They get releases of the games late quite often (although that may have more to do with the country's rating board, I'm not 100% sure about that). This stuff is probably intended to reassure them, and make up for the mediocre treatment they tend to get. North America will almost certainly get the codes, but Nintendo tends to release information right before or on the day the codes are released. Remember the Tomodachi life demo codes? They announced those almost the same time they sent them out, if I recall correctly. Likely North America will be no different. Just keep an eye out, and remember, October 15 seems to be the magic day for this demo.
BTW, I know this is sort of off topic, but have you noticed some of the games on the GameCube have kind of dark lighting that makes them look more modern? Maybe I'm just remembering wrong, but it seemed to me like a lot of games like Metroid, Metal Gear and other games like that are a lot darker in lighting than their more recent counterparts?
Meh, looks cool, but I don't want to fork out the extra cash. I just hope Nintendo only makes a few exclusives, because I only bought a 2ds after they were out for six months when they were on sale. I get that there are hardware things, but I really don't want to buy another console while I have a perfectly good one. I hope this will be like a deluxe 3ds rather than something to phase out the current version. Luckily, it does just seem to be a souped up version of the 3ds.
I dunno, but I'm Mega (pun intended) excited about these demos!
I just hope that I manage to lay my hands on a code... Looks like October 15 is the magic day!!! It looks like, if we play the demo, we can get two starters for ORAS without trading! And the rumors that have been circulating about it make it sound like a ton of new mega evolutions are coming our way
Hopefully North America gets codes, I don't see why we wouldn't, smash bros was an epic success, GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!

Still nothing, also day 2. I've checked all my spam folders and stuff. sigh Why couldn't nintendo just do a plain old demo download??? If they thought it would bog down the eShop, that's not surprising, but looks at what's happening now!
Re: Club Nintendo Members In Australia To Receive Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Demo Via Exclusive Email
Well, I think that may be a factor if they don't decide to do it, but think about it like this:
Australia gets cut out of events and other promotional stuff all the time.
Re: Video: Footage Surfaces of Cancelled Wii Star Wars Title
Well, it stinks that it never got released.
Re: Hardware Review: The New Nintendo 3DS Is The Best Yet
Meh, looks cool, but I don't want to fork out the extra cash. I just hope Nintendo only makes a few exclusives, because I only bought a 2ds after they were out for six months when they were on sale. I get that there are hardware things, but I really don't want to buy another console while I have a perfectly good one. I hope this will be like a deluxe 3ds rather than something to phase out the current version. Luckily, it does just seem to be a souped up version of the 3ds.
Re: Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
I dunno, but I'm Mega (pun intended) excited about these demos!
I just hope that I manage to lay my hands on a code... Looks like October 15 is the magic day!!! It looks like, if we play the demo, we can get two starters for ORAS without trading! And the rumors that have been circulating about it make it sound like a ton of new mega evolutions are coming our way
Hopefully North America gets codes, I don't see why we wouldn't, smash bros was an epic success, GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!
Re: Shiny Mega Gengar Haunting Up North American GameStops Until 26th October
Yeah, if you have an extra code and are feeling generous, please email me at [email protected]
Thanks a ton!
