I don't have a Switch 2 yet and was considering picking this up on Switch, but watching the video comparing loading times I think I might wait. Glad to hear the performance is good though.
I haven't played Wild World in years, but I remember the wait for it to release was agonising as Europe got it a few months later than the USA. A mate of mine imported a US copy, the new rotating world and being able to see the sky were great changes which obviously have remained ever since. The lack of proper holidays in Wild World let it down a bit and New Leaf improved on it in mostly every way, but I remember the excitement for that game fondly.
The amount of weeds and lost villagers if I booted my game up now would be hilarious, must be over 10 years at this point.
Gen 4 used to be my least favourite gen, (Pokemon seemed tired and formulaic by that point and I needed a break before returning to and beating it years later, after Gen 5). That lasted until Sun and Moon, (X & Y I could forgive somewhat, although it was far too easy, especially coming from the difficulty of Gen 5). To be fair, Sun and Moon did try and shake things up a bit, I just didn't jive with it or the story. Ultra Sun and Moon were definitely better.
Then the Switch Pokemon games started, Pokemon on a home console was an exciting prospect. Let's go Pikachu and Eevee were fine, but not as good as the originals. Sword and Shield were disappointing, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were the worst remakes up to this point. Arceus was promising and a good game, but it looked and still looks awful for a game released in 2022. Scarlet and Violet were not very good at all, they ran terribly, the gyms and challenges were the worst in the series, (imo), and the elite four was a joke. The whole setting was so lazy with the shop fronts, lack of themed elite four rooms etc. But there were glimpses of promise with the final area and story, if only they had the budget and time to refine it.
I've played every mainline Pokemon game to the end credits, I haven't played Z-A yet as I'd rather get it on a Switch 2 which I don't have yet, but I don't see it topping any of the pre 3DS games or even Arceus for that matter. But I've come this far, I'll buy it and play it, I'm part of the problem lol.
Beat this earlier today, last boss was a doozy. Impatience will get you killed a lot, (guilty as charged), but it's rewarding when you can see yourself improving. A couple of the runbacks are rough and the use of enemy arenas is a bit more frequent than I would have liked, but it's worth it to push through if you can. Team Cherry have a knack for worldbuilding and hiding so much content that you're likely to miss, (I got '100%' completion at the credits and I skipped one late game quest and I know that I missed at least 1 optional boss). Regarding NPCs, there are so many great characters. Sherma's song has been stuck in my head all week!
Like the original Dark Souls game, Stardew took me a couple of attempts to get into, but once it clicks, it really clicks. The early game can be rough initially, (especially the stamina), but once you overcome that, the time limit becomes a lot easier to manage and eventually it's a non issue once you get better sprinklers, a horse and other systems up and running.
I recently started another run for the Joja route so I'm going through the early stages again. Early game tips are to focus on crops early and build chests at the mines and at your farm, (try to resist grabbing the backpack too early as that money can be used elsewhere, I made the same mistake the first couple of times). If you can make a few thousand by the time the egg festival comes on the 13th of Spring, load up on Strawberry seeds and that will give you a great headstart going into Summer. Fishing is also recommended early when you're struggling for stamina and need a bit of extra money, (fishing will drop off late game for making money). I try to use foraged food when I can for energy, the Salmonberries in Spring and Blackberries in Autumn make this easier, but they only spawn for a few select days so I stock up when I can, (there are also spring onions in Cindersnap Forest, south of your farm in Spring).
I also have a habit of hoarding one of everything, (especially if you're doing the community centre), as you'll inevitably need it at some point. Winter is rough until you get the Greenhouse, (which is tough to do on year one), so I normally run the mines instead.
I have put around 400 hours into this game across Switch and PC, one of my favourite games of all time. It's not for everyone, (I normally very much dislike time limits), but once you have that under control it's very addicting.
All of the above being said, I do wish he'd get around to finishing the Haunted Chocolatier. In retrospect, I wonder if he regrets announcing it so early as now it's expected of him by fans of Stardew who are ready to move on.
@dew12333 What an absolutely awful take. Charlie Cox may not have played the game, but I'm not sure where in that interview you got the impression that he didn't care? Someone who doesn't care wouldn't have put in a voice acting performance that good, they would have just phoned it in. Perhaps you should ask AI to write your comments in the future.
I could honestly do without it, but if they decide to keep it:
Craft in bulk
Revert tools back to permanent items or only have the initial starter craftable tools be able to break, (I originally thought this was what New Horizons was going to do...)
Regarding recipes, you shouldn't be able to get duplicates until you have them all, very frustrating.
I've always been lukewarm on crafting, it always seems to be shoehorned into every game these days.
Exactly what I wanted, surprised that it was pretty much a straight upgrade from the Switch though. Nintendo haven't really done that since the Super Nintendo for their home consoles.
This game is one of the best RPGs on the DS and one of the better time travel RPGs after Chrono Trigger. My only complaint is that there aren't really enough songs to cover the length of the game, (around 25 iirc), but the songs that are there are great. I highly recommend this game, definitely one of the better RPGs that i've played.
Say what you want about the original DS, but it is comfier to hold than the DS Lite (and the GBA cartridges don't stick out). Those edges really cut into your palms after a while. Obviously the DS Lite's screen is sharper, the form factor is nicer, but personally I think the DS 'fat' had more character. Just a shame that the hinges are weak and the screens had a tendency to develop dead pixels, (happened to mine).
I grew up with DKC 1 and 2, didn't get to play 3 until years later due to the N64 releasing. Personally, I'd go 2>1>TF>R>3, (objectively I'd say that TF is better than 1, but I still think 2 is the better platformer). All are good, but 3 was disappointing after the first two, (I did love the world map idea though).
The Kingdom Hearts games are fun, but the plot after the first game isn't great and if you missed any of the non-numbered entries you'll be very confused, (possibly even if you did play them!) I wasted so many hours watching the PS4 collection videos for the non playable games, as well as a youtube summary of Chain of Memories as I couldn't stand that game. In my opinion they are best enjoyed as fun action rpgs with Disney worlds to explore, if you don't want to waste time I'm sure there are Youtube summaries that will fill in the gaps. I personally played KH1>KH2>Birth by Sleep>Dream Drop Distance>KH 0.2 fragmentary passage>KH3 and filled in the gaps. Why they decided to make it this complicated, I have no idea.
@Fizza +1 for the Yipes commentary, they should totally add that in as a voice track while you're playing. Get some 'JUSTIN WOOOONG OH MY GOD' in there as well for a clutch comeback.
I've played through all of these games, (bar PW:AA which I'd already beaten years ago), on the Switch and then played Mile Edgeworth Investigations on the DS as I wanted to play more. I'm glad that Investigations 2 is finally being localised, I can now completely catch up! No objections from me.
As much as I like old games getting remasters/remakes, I'd really have just preferred a new DKC game. One of my favourite series and it's now been....checks...over 10 YEARS since Tropical Freeze first released. Will still pick it up as this will likely be the definitive way to play it, better frame rate than the 3DS version and the forced waggle from the Wii version removed.
@VoidofLight I don't necessarily disagree with most of your points, (MHGU and World can both be argued to be better than Rise), but World did not have better monster variety than Rise. MH World for the most part had a 'dinosaur' aesthetic, Rise brought back many of the fun older monsters and I'd argue that the new monsters were much more diverse. Obviously neither can compare to MHGU as that is essentially a greatest hits game, with most of the monsters up until that point available, (although not all translated as well, rip underwater Lagiacrus). I enjoyed all 3 for different reasons, if Wilds combines the best parts of World and Rise then it'll be a certified banger.
Also I know these ratings are user ranked, but playing MH3U, (heck any Monster Hunter game), on a system other than the 3DS is preferable. The hand cramp that MH4U gives me after a while is unreal, (I'd love capcom to just port MH4U). MHFU was at least better when downloaded on the Vita with the d-pad controls mapped to the second stick. Playing MH3U on the Wii U was so much better, I wouldn't want to play it on the 3DS personally.
I was starting to wonder whether this was still coming out on Switch, good to see it still is. Finally time to take the plunge once the physical comes out.
I respect what they were going for, but the 3d remakes of FF3 and FF4 are ugly in my opinion. Not a fan of that art style at all. Also for FF3 at least, they increased the difficulty, not sure if they did the same for FF4?
This is not good for the consumer. Activision is one of the biggest publishers in the industry, it's not like Microsoft are buying out a Developer. The list of big publishers is now going to get smaller, which is only going to hurt competition and consumers in the long run. The FTC made this just about CoD and Sony's access to it, when they should have argued how it would hurt consumers by reducing competition, so they were never going to block it.
