As previously reported, Bandai Namco has now confirmed that Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch will be coming to your favourite handheld hybrid and it's got a release date: 20th September. You can check out the full reveal trailer above.
While PS4 and PC will be receiving a 'Remaster' of the original, including upgraded resolution and 60fps gameplay, the Switch version of the classic won't quite hit those lofty heights. According to the official press verbiage:
Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch on Nintendo Switch is the first handheld iteration of the acclaimed title, letting Switch players experience the game in 720p resolution at 30 fps in TV mode at home, or in handheld mode on-the-go. The game retains its original dynamic fight system, combining real-time action and turn-based tactical elements, as well as the dozens of locations and hundreds of creatures that comprise the vast universe of Ni no Kuni.
While it's a little disappointing we won't be seeing anything above 720p on the telly, we're sure Studio Ghibli's work will still look beautiful on the handheld. Look out for our review when it arrives mid-September.

For those that haven’t played it - please do! This game is FANTASTIC, especially for Studio Ghibli fans.
This and the remake of Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening!!! Looks like September is going to be a steller month. For me though not my wallet.
I’ll get it.
Apparently that alone is not enough to comment to this article so I’m adding this sentence.
Humm it is the exact same day rumoured to links awakening and that is a shame if true as it will suffer. However I will definitely get my hands on this cartridge!
Well then, this was one of the big games I regretted missing, can't wait to finally have a shot to play it.
Great, but does it come in its original japanese. Kinda a big thing.
Looking very forward to this as I never got the chance to play on the PS3. So glad they decided to port it to the Switch too.
Just happy the franchise has returned to Nintendo.
Day one of course!!
Tried out Nino Kuni II for the PS4 and wasn't really motivated to play after about 20-25hrs. Is this one better?
I don't mind with 720p, the gameplay already covered the fun and also good looking graphics
I kinda hate it but I also can't help but feel that they should have put an S in front of the "witch" for the occasion.
I love this game. Will definitely buy it again to play the go. Links awakening first though, if the rumoured release is correct for that. Those two should keep me going until Cyberpunk comes out.
@Karsten I played both games. The first is more like Poekmon, you collect little monsters, feed them, raise them, send them out to fight. The 2nd isn't that, as you know. I liked the gameplay of the 2nd better but I think the story was better in the first. Graphics were about the same.
I'm glad it finally came, Level-5 screw us over when they made the DS version but refuse to localize it. Then when they do localize it instead of giving it a nice console port for the Wii or Wii U they opt to just leave it on PlayStation 3 which feels very scummy to me. I hope the long wait is worth it.
It was one of the few games that made me lament I don't own a PS3. Now it's not anymore. And I'm a huge fan of Ghibli. I almost bought it on Nintendo DS, but my level of Japanese isn't that high and ruled it out.
But I need them to confirm it's going to come physical. I'm afraid it's not, but this game needs it, and a collector's edition too.
Well, since I owned it at one point on PS3 (after the special edition pre-order fiasco putting me off of getting it in the standard edition), but never played it (since I just can't play games on a TV anymore, it needs to be a handheld console or PSVR to immerse me), I'll gladly give this version a go. Love Ghibli, love good RPG's, and there's no special edition, so what could go wrong...
I bought this on PS3 for £4.99 or something silly but never got round to it. It always intrigued me so I might dive in if nothing else takes my fancy.
Then again I am hoping for a Spyro release and I imagine it will be Aug/Sep. If it does come that is.
Right before my birthday! As a Studio Ghibli fan, this is a definite yes!
@FrowningCoach The Ni no Kuni english dub is generally excellent. It's like a very high quality dubbed anime (think the Studio Ghibli movies)
@justin233 I always wanted to play it but never had a PS3... AM SO HYPED FOR IT! just bought Ni No Kuni 2 on the PS4 for my cousin as bday gift and thought about how nice it would be if the first comes out again for Switch or PS4!
Great game!... Like the battle system of #2 better. But they both great. Art looked fantastic on PS3, would not worry about "only 720p" on Switch.
That said, no desire to play it Remastered or "on the GO" again.
I get it for $5-$10 if ever a Steam Sale - just to have both in my PC collection.
Wait, hold on.
All consoles/PC get the Remastered version, EXCEPT Switch? What... why... how... why is the Switch not getting a Remastered version...?
Day effing one. Can't wait!
I've been keeping an eye on Ni No Kuni 2 on PS4 but I would probably start with this one if I ever have the time.
Really can't wait. Hoping to preorder a physical copy please please please.
FANTASTIC!!! I really wanted to play this one.
This game is demanding so i do get it it won't go higher than 720p on switch. it's lacking a bit power. Come on Nintendo give a power boost to next Switch
It’s probably the same game. When there is a Switch that can handle it, all the resources and files will be in the package. In the meantime, it won’t matter to me and the Switch will be the place to check it out for me.
Wow going to be picky with what rpg I am going to buy
@NintendoFan4Lyf Yeah! I went and got a copy of that. It came with this pretty amazing book. I never played the game much, but the accompanying book was fantastic.
Noone notices 720 vs 1080 in handheld mode
I will be picking this up.
I love Studio Ghibli and I’ll never get to play my PS3 version to chew through a glorious grindy jrpg.
So having it handheld makes it my must buy game of the autumn.
Will buy, but good lord is that month stacked
Great! Maybe there's hope for #2 as well but I've always wanted to play the first one so this should be nice
After all these years, Ni No Kuni is finally coming home! <3
not one "neato" comment? for shame
@justin233 This game was the one reason I regretted not picking up a PS3.
No longer!
Engine Software are handling the port. The Dutch studio has worked with Bandai Namco in the past, they were responsible for the Switch port of Little Nightmares.
I love Ni No Kuni one of my favourite games of all time happy its coming to the Switch
Yay, Ni No Kuni is finally coming to Switch!
But wait, it's not remastered, why? It's like they made those compromises on purpose so that the hybrid advantage of the Switch version doesn't overlook the PS4 one without increasing the price... I can take it 720p, but 30fps? I don't think that will be the case, I bet it will have an unlocked frame-rate.
I hate to be "that guy" but is it all contained on a cartridge? My memory card is toppers and I'd struggle to find something I'm happy to delete (until I can justify upgrading my 256gb card).
