The first Nintendo Direct broadcasts of 2015 weren't short of details, and one reveal that was among the quirkiest we saw was around upcoming 3DS strategy game Code Name S.T.E.A.M.

The Intelligent Systems game was confirmed for amiibo support, which will utilise the New Nintendo 3DS and, in future, an accessory for standard models. The game won't be getting its own range, but will make use of current and upcoming Super Smash Bros. series toys for Marth, Ike, Robin and Lucina. As you can see in the trailer below, these are scanned into battles as playable characters, which will give an interesting spin on the steampunk setting.

Let's not also forget that Intelligent Systems had another new game confirmed today, with a new Fire Emblem on the way to 3DS.

Code Name S.T.E.A.M was also given a formal European release date of 15th May, which is over two months after the 13th March arrival in North America.

Are you planning to pick this up, and will you scan these amiibo into battle?
