Sandbox survival title Valheim is currently causing quite a storm in the world of indie gaming, selling over 5 million copies in the space of a month to become one of the most-played titles on Steam. It's also had rave reviews, and when that happens, it's inevitable that people start talking about console ports.
Created by a five-person development team, Valheim places you in the Viking afterlife and expects you to craft, built and fight in order to succeed. As is the case with so many popular games these days, there's a social element to this challenge; you can face-off against other players or create groups of up to nine people to tackle Valheim's often brutal world as a team.
When we spoke to Respawn and Panic Button recently about the Switch port of Apex Legends, we asked which 'dream' game they'd like to bring to Switch next. Panic Button's Head of Production Dan Hernberg wasted no time in laying his cards out on the table:
I’m not sure if this is my “any game pick” but, right now I’m playing way too much Valheim and I would love to port that to Switch.
Valheim is built in Unity, so a Switch port could happen. If it does, let's hope that Panic Button is involved, as the studio rarely puts a foot wrong with this kind of thing.

I still have no clue how this has passed me by. It seems to be a thing now but I haven’t seen a single second of gameplay. I’m not old enough to be out of the loop already!
I've been having a lot of fun with this game, hopefully it comes to other platforms but it'll be a while
You think you want this, but remember the compromise will likely be muddy textures and a choppy 30 FPS.
the adoration this game gets makes me reluctant to play it. I don't have the time/ energy to get hooked on a game right now.
As far as a port? no thanks. when i get to it, i'll play on the intended platform- PC. The switch is terrific, but unless i have to, i'd prefer not to play compromised ports on it.
Well, this would be cool. We all know that Vikings love playing Nintendo Switch.
(Nice SEO on this headline)
Looks like one of those overly American N64 games. Looks fab!
Would be nice, but I don't think the community would be there on console. Part of the appeal of Valheim is dedicated private servers, mods and RP servers; I don't think those aspects would be possible or translate well over to console.
@Broosh The textures are already very low resolution. It feels lower than Minecraft sometimes. The game looks great at a distance though.
Don't know much about it as its PC only right? I've heard the PS4/X1 would struggle with it so i highly doubt the Switch could run it if that's the case.
@Broosh muddy textures in valheim. Oh god no! Lol
Unity gets a bad wrap but it made so many cool games like cuphead and now this!
@Jasonmd It doesn’t have muddy textures, just intentionally low res textures like Minecraft and then modern lighting techniques.
That’s a big MEH from me but at least the people seem to like it.
Oh no, not another Minecraft - Fortnite, Apex - Thing...
@Broosh
Unlikely as the textures are already low res and if done right should be easy too port to switch. Have it on pc and it's a great game one of the better survival games
If panic button port it , it would run just as good as on pc.
@RasandeRose
Nothing like those , it's survival game with the usual crafting and building etc with norse mythology theme
But if this article on the one on push square is anything too go by, the developers shouldn't bother with consoles as the vast majority have no interest what so ever
@WallyWest
The specs aren't impressive for pc, so god knows how you think it wouldn't run on the ps4 and Xbox one
Minimum

Processor: 2.6 GHz Dual Core or similar

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 500 Series or similar
DirectX: Version 11

Network: Broadband internet connection

The game isn't even finished, so it doesn't make sense to port it right now, they'd have to keep updating the game to keep up with the PC development.
@suikoden @Jasonmd @NorseGamerTommy I was under the impression the game wasn't already ugly 😂 Never mind, this sounds like a prime Switch port!
Definitely wouldn’t be my pick at all. Hopefully they get better chances for ports on the pro.
Its a great game and would recommend it, my brother been playing it and he enjoys it! I saw him play it and I would like it too.
I've heard that Rust is coming to console soon, would rather see a switch port of that than Valheim.
Although saying that, we all remember what happened with Arc
@RasandeRose
Don't knock this game until you try it. Seriously amazing game.
@Fighter_Hayabusa
This is a fair assessment. The game is a grind and you can play at whatever pace you want. Don't wanna advance past the bronze again, fine you can do that and like a cozy little life in the meadows. Or you can be a badass and fight in the Plains (although not recommended). The game is a big time sink but I love it.
@Mr-Fuggles777
Rust is a awful game with one of the most vile and hateful community's and it's PvP only
Thankfully got refund from steam, would rather scoop my eyes out and eat them than ever play that again
@suikoden it's the toxicity that makes it so fun, you don't have to feel guilty when you steal people's stuff as you know they are just as awful as you and would do the same in a heartbeat.
Its the only game I've genuinely heard people cry when you grief them lol.
Almost at the 3rd boss with some friends on PC. Lots of fun.
Is it a British thing that mandates an italicized word per paragraph? I love (this is where the italics should go given your programme) but, jesus , it’s so tiring! Other than that, keep up the amazing work I truly love you and your site.
Nice, would definitely give it a try, Panic Button still got my support.
i have heard of the game but dont know much about it. what type of game is it as it looks intresting
AC Odyssey was a great game. Gonna wait for this one to drop down to €25 or so before I bite. These games are a time sync.
@blockfight Agreed, Odyssey is actually the first AC game that I manage to finish despite being the longest simply because it was really enjoyable. I'm currently playing Fenyx Rising and although it's humour can make me cringe sometimes it's a really fun, beautiful, light-hearted game that seems to combine BOTW and Odyssey. It's also a great approach to greek mythology.
Now, about this game... It does seem interesting. I didn't like the music but I guess (hope) it's just for the trailer.
@blockfight
It's already less than that its around £15 which is about 17.50 euro
It’s an amazing game, exactly what I had been looking for the last couple of months. And an absolute bargain as well.
I wouldn’t mind having it on the Switch, if you can somehow cross-platform save. It would be amazing to mine ore and chop wood on the road. Local server would be fun too, if I had friends to play with.
Yeah it'll be at 20fps blurry af
@Fighter_Hayabusa why dont you have the time/energy to play nowadays?
Totally amazing game! On my way to the 4th boss now, and did everything solo. Think the port will have to wait, because even if there is already a ton of content, there is still unfinished biomes with nothing in them yet.
Huh. I'd seen this game around, but I hadn't picked up on the fact that it's published by Coffee Stain.
Explain how they got word out so fast to all corners of the internet. ^^
