Re: Ubisoft: Players "Don't Get" What Makes NFTs So Beneficial

turbotri

Very strange... I am pretty certain that bartering, or buying and selling has existed for centuries without the need for blockchains or NFTs
I mean I concede that much of the human species is comprised of people with just average intelligence and these newer technologies may prove a challenge to grasp but at the end of the day the bottom line is that human greed, selfishness and the desire to take advantage of the weak or weak minded is driving much of the madness I have witnessed in my 40+ years of existence. Crypto, blockchains, NFTs, mass purchases of GPU hardware.... makes no difference what the initial purpose was at the inception of these technologies or stock market like behaviours, even if it was purely innocent. Everything is about personal selfish gains more so now than ever.
These companies used to shepherd the sheep(consumers) in order to collect the wool(money) periodically. Now they and others are trying to lead many of us as lambs to slaughter(poverty, homelessness, sickness and actual death)
I guess they figure there are enough dumb humans around constantly reproducing that in the end the thousands that get culled will be replaced by younger just as stupid sheep.
One must be careful about the road we choose to go down, sometimes when we go too far there is no turning back and a reckoning awaits us.

Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)

@zool
Keep in mind that more complex and proprietary hardware also comes with higher development and build costs so yes they could potentially be making more money when they sell each unit but what's more important than that is the profit from each unit and profits from each game sold.
Microsoft and Sony have powerful systems but they're both selling them at a loss. if the Nintendo switch pro is $399 but cost Nintendo $350 to make or worse $400 versus a Nintendo switch that they sell for $299 and probably cost them about $120 or $150 now that they are in mass production again it's hard to convince your investors to jump on something that isn't going to show as many returns on profits. Nintendo has it's own user base and ecosystem which does not have to complete with either Microsoft or Sony. Try not to look at them as competitors. Yes they are all the business of making video game entertainment systems but they appeal to different sections of the gaming community with some spillover here and there.
If you want the type of games that Microsoft and Sony offer you are free to invest in their systems and game titles.
Having a very powerful portable system comes with trade-offs that you may not want to live with such as noticably shorter battery life, heat and weight. You can't get double the power for free without affecting things that could make portability problematic. Even if they use RTX technology to do DLSS upscaling it still needs power to do that which will generate heat that a small device will have trouble dissipating without a complex and expensive cooling system.
Sorry for droning on, I am not trying to be a naysayer, I am just trying to be realistic about the various factors that are going against a more powerful portable being released right now.

Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)

turbotri

@zool
This then creates a brand new sku with its own parts and support requirements.
It's just not cost effective when the current system is still financially viable as is.
As much as Nintendo loves creating entertainment they still have stakeholders to answer to and bills to pay.
Both Microsoft and Sony are feeling alot of pain right now by releasing new systems in this current climate.

Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)

turbotri

Do we really want an Apple model where our Switch models are made obsolete on an almost yearly basis and we are enticed to pay another $300 for some incremental additions or upgrades, where if we refuse to upgrade the software titles that are released don't work on old models because they just happen to use some aspect of the new models that is not really important to the enjoyment of the game?

Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)

turbotri

If my U.S. $299 device was selling like crazy why would I introduce a refresh model that would incur higher manufacturing costs and I would have to sell at a higher price so as not to alienate previous customers?
If you want a new Nintendo System then all you have to do is convince all the current non Switch owners to not buy one and have sales tank so that Nintendo thinks the public interest has reached WiiU levels.
Once the investors think the cash cow is dead they will scream for a newer model to be released. If you want more advanced games then do the same thing which will force them to make more demanding games since they will believe their current releases to be rejected.
It's simple supply and demand. They won't release something new unless they see a good reason to and all us consumers are speaking loudly with our wallets.
Personally I don't see the point of a new more powerful handheld that's gonna burst my wallet. Power costs money, you can't get 2x powerful a device without paying for it. If I wanted a powerful handheld I would have bought one of the many options out there. I buy Nintendo for the ecosystem and I accept whatever limitations that brings with it.

Re: Nintendo's Share Price Drops 6% Following E3 2021 Direct Broadcast And Switch Pro No-Show

turbotri

Nintendo's share price drops after the New Super Nintendo Switch 2.0 Pro Advanced that was never promised or spoken about by the company was not announced.
Bill Gates says he loves the switch and the share price jumps by 5%.
Elon Musk tweets "Switch? I dunno guys..." and Nintendo share price drops by 15%.
Meanwhile I see share prices change and I just DGAF.
Basing the value of a company on the 'feelings' of a bunch of materialistic gamblers seems nonsensical to me but maybe my intellect is not advanced enough to fathom the wisdom of it.
Oh and dont get me started on the practice of using the 'feelings' of those same gamblers to measure the health of a country's economy.

@Slowdive The DNS changes might not work for some people due to the fact that some routers used at home override user set DNS and redirect requests to alternate servers. Sometimes this is done to bypass region blocks

Re: OLED Display Firm Mentions 'Switch Pro' During Its Q1 Investors Call

turbotri

As a person who has had multiple experiences with Samsung cellphones with OLED screens I hope the new switch will not be using the same panel tech because after a couple years I have seen quite a bit of burn in and flickering issues across different models of high end Galaxy phones. This is just my experience in the company I work with in dealing with multiple users and hopefully across the globe with a larger sample base it's a different story.

Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Monster Hunter Rise Demo Revealed

turbotri

I'm beginning to realize that some of the people who are complaining about low resolution output looking crappy on their televisions should not be quarreling about the consoles themselves but the fact that their televisions or audio systems have very terrible upscaling.
Crappy upscaling can definitely make a game look blurry and muddy. In addition if the TV has some sort of image processing features turned on It could also cause strange artifacts or stuttering with some games as the television tries to add frames to the content.
Content can look vastly different across different models and makes of 4K TVs especially cheaper LCD models

Re: Reggie on How Nintendo Handles Announcements and Responds to Fan Input

turbotri

@chriiiiiiiiiis
I think some people have a "give me what I want when I want it" mentality and forget that their needs are not the only needs in the universe. Nintendo is a company first and has to strive to make a profit to stay in business, having said that they also clearly care about the products they deliver to their customers and strive for reliability, quality and yes entertainment. They make mistakes and misjudgments all the time but it's the intent I care about. They don't come over like they just want to milk our wallets dry. Even the way they are handling saves on the switch is not born from a desire to screw over the customer or make managing saves hard, it comes from them trying to prevent cheating, sharing saves and possible hacks to the device. Some people see a measure like that implemented and quickly assume it's because they have no foresight or they don't care about the players. I think many of the decisions that were "inconvenient for the players" were actually made to protect their property and the long term enjoyment of the systems they sold. Would we be better off if the Switch was left wide open to piracy, sold for less than it was manufactured for, hardly anybody bought the games due to them being widely available for download and the built in chat service was rampant with abusive individuals? How would Nintendo be expected to survive? Critics are free to critique but in the end unless you have a suggestion to solve each issue you are raising that does not come with it's own equal caveats then really how is that a solution, you are basically trading one set of problems for another set to facilitate what works better for you. It's kinda selfish to think like that since what works for us as individuals wont work for the rest of the world. Nintendo tries to strike a balance for the section of the world's population that enjoys their product. For those who don't there is no need to be upset, just go and enjoy what the other manufactures provide that caters more to your personal sensibilities.

Re: Reggie on How Nintendo Handles Announcements and Responds to Fan Input

@samuelvictor
The thing is reporting people is one thing but it can't undo the abuse my child would have already faced. Also reporting can be abused to target non offenders and possibly get people who have done nothing wrong banned. Honestly for me it's been said to death but Discord already exists and works for most people's gaming needs so I don't see why Nintendo HAS to make a me too voice chat app.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Breaks Down DOOM On Switch In A Unique Way

@PlywoodStick
I think you are thinking back when Nvidia was still working on their Vulkan compatibility. If you look at more recent tests things have changed a bit. Plus Vulkan was not so much about pushing more pixels to the gpu as much as it was about removing the API overhead that would overwhelm a low spec cpu as is the case of the switch. In any case this is not about AMD vs Nvidia and which tribe's spears are sharper. The real applause goes to the team that ported DOOM and did such a fantastic job of maintaining the core of the game and most of the visuals intact.
This is an example of what I mean. Look at the difference with a low spec Intel Celeron with OpenGL vs Vulkan

Re: First Impressions: Hell in a Handbasket - DOOM on Nintendo Switch

turbotri

For those giving the game a chance like myself I say I hope we all have fun. For the rest who in their comments and opinions come off cynical, elitist, bitter, ungrateful and generally miserable I say to you I truly hope you find peace, happiness and enjoyment in that which you choose to play. We all have choices and nobody is forcing us into anything we don't want to do. I get the feeling some of us take pleasure in complaining and decrying the things that others seem to be enjoying or want to enjoy. It's kinda sad when you analyse it.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Breaks Down DOOM On Switch In A Unique Way

turbotri

@DJKeens
Yes the confusion that people seem to have about the difference between something running at one fixed frame rate whether it be 30 or 60 and an unstable frame rate where it jumps between say 10 to 40 or 50 usually muddies these discussions.
As long as I have a mostly constant frame rate working with my brain automatically adjusts to it.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

turbotri

Big time Publishers and Companies have investors to answer to and deadlines to meet which can cost a whole lot of money when missed. They get the product to a reasonable working state and then get it out the door and plan fixes later. I am not excusing the behavior but in the end for the people working on these games it is sometimes literally their necks on the block to not delay past the release date which would then see them incur all the costs associated with that scenario. If you have ever done a major programming project or hell any big project in general, things usually go wrong and delays happen even when you give 100%. From what I have seen many of the people who actually bought the game are actually enjoying it. The most bitter complainers did not purchase it and more hilariously some of them never planned to.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey's File Size is Only a Little Bigger Than an NBA 2K18 Save File

turbotri

I have been mulling over the save file size issue and the conclusion that I come to is one that some other people have that the space might be just reserved memory possibly for things like replays. I am hoping at some point publishers will be allowed to place their saves on the SD card or else there are going to be major issues down the line. I know why Nintendo is concerned about a setup like the wii or wiiu regarding copying saves to the sd but it's a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. My advice to them is if a game like nba2k18 needs a large save file then the cart better come with its own built in 8gb flash to keep save data. As for people who do digital only there is not much that can be done right now with the current security restrictions in place. I would love to hear from somebody who bought the digital only version with an sd card installed what happens if they setup multiple users in their switch and examine the memory usage

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Direct?

turbotri

@SLIGEACH_EIRE

EDIT Ok I just saw a message where you said you think that carts can work but they should have been larger in size hence cheaper. In the tech sector it works the other way around. The smaller the wafers use to create memory, chips etc is the cheaper it is to manufacture so that theory does not fly. We cant expect to get something for little or nothing. Carts are more robust than other mediums and fit the portability well. Unless the real issue is that you wish the Switch was not a portable which is fine as opinions go but try not to cry down the aspects of the system where Nintendo clearly tried to do what made sense based on the needs of the design.

Ok so I missed the times you voiced what medium you thought the Switch's games should be released on. Please remind me since it is crystal clear on an almost daily basis that you think the use of carts on the switch is a sin that Nintendo should repent for endlessly. Seriously though, how would you have handled the software distribution on the Switch so that consumers such as yourself would have had one less thing to complain about?

Re: Poll: Buying Bayonetta 2 - eShop Convenience or Battling for Copies in Stores?

turbotri

@Drawdler
I figure there is no 'not buying' selection because it is safe to assume that anyone NOT selecting any of the other options is a no buy. This poll is about
HOW you are acquiring Bayonetta not about whether you want it.
@rferrari24
Well I preordered mine from Amazon and I selected ordered from an online retailer, how exactly does that make the poll innacurate?
