Re: Yooka-Replaylee Is Now "Content Complete"

stiligFox

I’ve seen a lot of negativity surrounding this game, and I will say I’m excited for it. I enjoyed the original and I’m looking forward to playing a more polished version of it.

Impossible Lair however, was one of my favorite games of all time. One of the few side scrollers I’ve played that really nailed the feel of the SNES Donkey Kong Country physics, and I recommend it to anyone who likes those games. I actually prefer the physics feel of Impossible Lair to DKCR and DKC:TF by quite a bit!

All this is to say - I’m not opposed to the remake, but I do hope they have either a 3D sequel or another 2D sequel planned eventually!

Re: Random: Don't Worry Folks, Nintendo Says Mario And Peach Are Just "Good Friends"

stiligFox

@OctolingKing13 I agree though it depends on the Zelda game - in a lot of them, Zelda is merely the princess that Link meets to help (LTTP, TP, OOT) with no other deeper emotional connection beyond that. In others, like MC and SS, they’re childhood friends, with SS giving them a hint of future romantic potential. In TOTK, after the events of BOTW, Link and Zelda straight up live together in Hateno Village, sharing a single bed! So it really depends on the reincarnation.

Though it’s also heavily implied that Mipha and Link were supposed to be a couple when the calamity took place in BOTW as well.

That said, Mario and Peach have always been a couple in my heart. It’s the only thing that makes sense!

Re: Switch 2 USB-C Chip Might Be Breaking Compatibility With Third-Party Docks

stiligFox

The more I read about the Switch 2 the more weird I feel about it!

Has anyone tried connecting it to a portable monitor? I have an older ViewSonic and a newer OLED monitor that are both USB C with passthrough charging - I can plug my Switch 1 to them directly with a proper USB 3 type C cable, and then plug the Switch charger into the other port on the monitors, and it just works! I get to play my Switch on a bigger screen and it charges and works great.

Does this still work? If it doesn’t, that means Nintendo broke USB C alt modes and that really stinks.

Re: Zelda Fans Are Concerned About The Free Switch 2 Updates, But Don't Worry

stiligFox

I feel like Nintendo has been very careful to not state that games will run better with more stable framerate - and I feel like it’s a deliberate decision so as not to make the Switch 1 sound inferior.

It’s like they don’t want to admit that the Switch 1 is actually struggling with their first party games. I remember when they were showing off BOTW they showed off the Korok Forest and compared the two, they were very careful to say how the Switch 2 looked even better but they didn’t really mention how the Switch 1 was actively losing frames of the resolution was being pushed down.

So I bet a lot of games we see struggling on Switch 1 will indeed see better framerates and resolutions on Switch 2 but I don’t think Nintendo will mention it often.

Re: Surprise! DOOM + DOOM II Get Newly Enhanced Release On Switch eShop

stiligFox

Does anyone know how to get the new versions without paying? I have DOOM I and II on my Switch, but when I check for updates, they say they’re up to date (yet still as the Zenimax versions). When I got to the eShop it shows I’ve purchased the old ones but only prompts me to pay for the new ones. Am I missing something obvious?

Re: New Interview With Zelda Boss Suggests There Are No Plans For TOTK DLC

stiligFox

I feel that most people know by now that TOTK is not anywhere near a DLC for BOTW - but I feel that a good way to describe it is that BOTW was the prototype for TOTK. After playing TOTK, there's no real reason I could ever see going back to BOTW except to do the story, but I really doubt I'll spend more than 30-40 hours on a play through. TOTK has everything and so much more.

That said, I was really hoping for a DLC that would flesh out the Depths a bit more - I was hoping for a city, a whole race of people down there! When I first saw the concept art, I thought the people wearing the mushroom hats were going to be Depths denizens!

Re: Genshin Impact Zelda "Clone" Accusations Had Dev Team In Tears

stiligFox

@ModdedInkling I feel like - they’ve all but confirmed they’re working on a cloud version, and I feel like that cloud version is what we’ll see on the Switch. But they’re stalling any announcements as long as they can until they get it working fully. The PS4 struggles hard with Genshin - I don’t think the Switch would fare well at all. And definitely now that it’s taking 30GB+ storage on mobile and over 60GB+ on PC…

Re: Genshin Impact Zelda "Clone" Accusations Had Dev Team In Tears

stiligFox

I used to say I’d never play Genshin Impact because it was Gacha and a Zelda clone, but it’s really quite a good game on its own. You can do quite a bit if you’re playing free to play - it doesn’t truly SHOVE the transactions down your throat and you can get quite a few characters by just playing without paying. That said the gacha aspect is there and it is ruthless if you’re trying to get a specific character.

But man, it’s a really good story. I highly recommend anyone that likes a good story to play through the main Archon story quest and even a lot of the side and character story quests. It’s made me laugh, cry, this game I swear has some of the best story writing.

(And some of the blandest for a lot of the little side quests, but boy the main story is amazing)

It’s a game I definitely wasn’t expecting to like as much as I do.

And don’t get me started on the music. The full orchestrated soundtrack is gorgeous, and each region matches a real life area and the music is very authentic to those regions. (Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Arabic, etc). I recommend the soundtrack alone! You can find it on Spotify.

Not sponsored or anything at all. I just wish people would give it more of a chance, at least for the story. It’s very very different than BOTW, and so is the combat system. You play using a rotation of four characters and you rely on their interactions to deal damage to enemies. Sort of like Xenoblade Chronicles mixed with Pokémon battles but different from that, even.

Re: Time Between Switch's Announcement And Launch Was A "Special Case", Says Nintendo

stiligFox

@Cashews Out of curiosity, which would you consider to be the Switch 2? The OLED Switch is still a Switch 1 - a 1.1 if anything. It still uses all of the same hardware specs, just with a better screen/speakers/kickstand - which for a lot of people I know is not a worthy upgrade.

But for all intents - it's still a Switch. A Switch 2 would have more computing power or something that actually makes a substantial change, like the New 3DS did (although that was a flop, as far as any games that really used the extra power.)

Calling a Switch 2 a sales failure seems... disingenuous since there's not really a Switch 2 out there. Just a shinier Switch 1...

Re: Monkey Island's Creator Seemingly Shuts Down Blog After Personal Attacks

stiligFox

The internet is so full of hate these days it feels like…

I watched the new Obi-Wan Kenobi show, and watched it and immensely enjoyed it (it’s exactly what I was hoping for) and went to Reddit and other media sites to see what others thought. Scores and scores and scores of comments on articles and Reddit posts decrying how lazy and awful the show was, lazy writing, lazy acting, lazy cinematography. It made me so sad; it’s apparent people put love and genuine care into producing the show. Is it perfect? No, but it was pretty darn enjoyable.

Same for this game; so much hate for something that is being made with love and care. Why? Why the sudden turn to hatred in the internet? This is not what the internet was made for. Some things deserve anger and hatred, but people making media for people to enjoy is not one of them. Unless someone is getting hurt in the process, or a company is forcing bad practices like crunch on their employees, just let people enjoy things. Wait until it comes out, and if you don’t like the art style - don’t buy it!

It’s one thing to share an opinion; “well I don’t like the art style so I’ll pass, but maybe have a filter option for an older art style closer to the original games?” But to outright personally attack another human is downright evil.

Sad days are these, and this is why we can’t have nice things

Re: Just 10 Days Since Launch, Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Is Already Amazon's Third Best-Seller Of 2021

stiligFox

I know a lot of people are mentioning how the original didn’t sell well, but you have to keep in mind it was one of, if not the last, first party Nintendo game released for the Wii. It came at a time when 480p was very very old, and the Wii motion control gimmick had worn itself thin (even though I loved and still love the motion controls in skyward sword, then and now).

It really should also have been released for the Wii U as a launch title with 1080p visuals; it probably would’ve boosted its own and the Wii U’s sales that way, but they both turned out to be duds sales wise…

The other thing to remember is the atrocious E3 demo where they famously had to ask everyone to turn off their WiFi on their devices (at a tech gaming convention no less) to reduce interference to get the MotionPlus controls to work right. That moment is also what really killed Skyward Sword when all the media outlets picked up on that story, and people were certain it had awful controls before it even came out. It was a huge embarrassment to Nintendo, probably cost them a lot of sales, and IIRC is the reason we have Nintendo Directs now rather than demoing games live - they can control the surroundings precisely in prerecorded videos and make sure the game looks and behaves perfectly.

The motion controls weren’t perfect by any means, but weren’t nearly as bad as everyone made them out to be - the WiiMote had to be calibrated every 30 minutes or so, I found, but thankfully they’ve made it even more reliable on the Switch where resetting the cursor is a push of a button and calibrating is no longer a thing.

Re: Someone Thinks They've Resolved Nintendo's Joy-Con Drift Problem With An Incredibly Simple Fix

stiligFox

This will work for a time; the issue is that the sliders inside overtime tear up and wear down the resistive pads. I just pulled apart two joy con joysticks today and could clearly see the scraping damage. Applying more pressure will fix it for awhile until it gets damaged further and ultimately needs replacement again. It’s a design flaw of resistive based joysticks…

Re: A Resident Evil Producer Is Leaving Capcom For Bungie

stiligFox

I see a few people disliking Revelations as far as Resident Evil goes... ironically Revelations 1 on the 3DS was my first experience with RE, and Revelations 2 was my second.

I tried a mainline RE game and ended up disappointed that it didn’t seem to feel the same as those two games!

Re: Rumour: Zelda's 35th Anniversary Will See The Return Of Wind Waker And Twilight Princess

stiligFox

I know a lot of people are a little salty about everything from the WiiU getting ported to the Switch, but you have to remember that a lot of us that have WiiU’s are diehard Nintendo fans. There’s over 70 million Switches and only 12 million some WiiU’s - that’s a huge market of additional Switches and players that could access those great games from the WiiU that most never got to see - for them they are still new games. Plus this way Nintendo still gets to recoup more of those developer costs...

Re: Guide: How To Fix A Drifting Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

stiligFox

For what it’s worth - Xbox One, PlayStation Dual Shock, and the Nintendo Pro controllers all use the same mechanical Alps joystick part. The only issue is the way that Nintendo designed the cup of the joystick, it allows dust to fall into the joystick itself. Cleaning out the joystick through disassembly fixes it - nothing is wrong with the unit itself, just dust ingress getting in.

Here’s the part itself: https://tech.alpsalpine.com/prod/e/html/multicontrol/potentiometer/rkjxk/rkjxv122400r.html

Re: Dr. Mario World's Latest Update Adds Donkey Kong And Diddy Kong

stiligFox

@BoyfriendOfDeath in the Donkey Kong Country GBA remakes Donkey Kong and everyone else has lines that speak in the early intros.

In DKC 3 on the SNES, Dixie and Kiddy speak, and I know at least Diddy says something after getting released from KAOS - and I think Donkey might too. And of course with Cranky and Wrinkly being Donkey’s grandparents, I imagine being able to speak is a bit of a given if you don’t want to count the GBA remakes

Re: Super Mario Odyssey Has A Workaround For Switch Lite's Lack Of Rumble

stiligFox

@holygeez03 I imagine it was already built into the game - there are a number of third party controllers that don’t have any form of rumble built into them, so at some point Nintendo must have accounted for that and added something into the game that checks for HD Rumble compatibly. Many third party controllers would fail the check, as does the switch lite now.
