Re: Review: Shovel Knight (3DS eShop)

rolLTheDice

Lovin' that tagline.

To understand Shovel Knight you have to feel Shovel Knight. It's a game that cannot be captured in screenshots, in video, or even in a review. It's a game that has to be experienced to be understood, and the experience is one that every fan of action platformers should enjoy.

How about a demo then, YCG? Seriously, i can't think of any other way to convince me before there's a sale for the 3DS or Wii U version.

Thanks for the link, @steamhare.
The achievements make this one kinda compelling over the web-based version.
i might be tempted if this ever comes out in Europe. Or wait for a sale since 1,50€ sound like a near perfect price for this on 3DS.

Re: Moon Chronicles to Hit Europe in Q4 This Year, Including All Episodes in One

So Bomb Monkey didn't get released in Europe because of these rating procedures and maybe more localisation?
Geez, i understand why they need to be there, but i speak English decently and am of legal age. Why do i have to suffer? >=o|
Even if Bomb Monkey is not affected, i do think that the extra costs and efforts are the reason for a lot of games not getting released in Europe.

Re: Talking Point: New Ideas, Not New IPs, Are The Key for Nintendo

I don't think Project Roboto and Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. really were ready to be shown yet. The concept of the latter is quite interesting but it just didn't look any fun yet.
Apart from that i thought the lineup looked intriguingly refreshing.
What was shown did fit the theme of reinvigorating the GamePad - and the Wii U in general - by giving it more of its own identity.
Splatoon's been the cart horse and the others nicely kept up with it.

Yeah, it's hard not to get excited about the prospect of a full fledged single-player mode and i hope it doesn't have to play second fiddle to the very fun-looking multiplayer. It's all got a lot of potential.
It just wouldn't have been as exciting as a new Mario game. Even though i think the use of F.L.U.D.D. in some form or another could make it even more fun.
@AlexOlney The aesthetics reminded me of DeBlob too. I really loved that game. Hopefully i'll get around to play the sequel soon.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Beware the Slippery Slope of Sponsored DLC

Great article, Tom!
So far I didn’t mind any of this being in a Ninty game and while shocked by the announcement I suppose we’ll just see how popular the Mercedes will really be in online races. Maybe it wouldn't even look so radical with a Mii in it. One thing’s for sure though, you’re not going to make any friends by using it online.
I can see that DLC being a hit with a certain demographic with migrant background here though. These people truly love their Benzes.

Re: Talking Point: Keeping It Simple Helped Nintendo Triumph At E3

Splatoon really looked ace and Project Guard like a really great thing for a new minigame collection.
I have my doubt about making the latter an integral part of the new Star Fox game though. I’ve always seen the best games in the series as strictly single-player affairs so it would’ve to be nothing but mindblowing if it goes for a more social route.
I’m also not a big fan of Wii Sports. It might be great for a few minutes of quick multiplayer fun but it doesn’t have a lot of lasting appeal to me.

Re: Nintendo Needs To Cut Wii U Cost To Capitalise On Mario Kart 8 Success, Says Ubisoft CEO

Before E3 i would've said he's right. Where the GamePad was quite neglected these last months they now seem to mean business. For the moment that's enough for me to feel a bit excited about the system's games again. It still got good games but it just didn't feel very special anymore.
How much of that message gets out to the general public is an entirely different question though.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Outlines His Work Routine and Highlights Splatoon Development Team

I don't really want my living room to be equipped with a revolving chair. So it's just not very convenient to move the GamePad more than 90 degrees away from the TV screen imo.
With virtual reality you've also got the problem that the person playing cannot easily look away from the game and no one else can see what he's doing. So i'd say virtual reality is neither ideal for the living room nor a portable console right now.

Re: Mario Kart Month: A History of the Mario Kart Series - Part Two

rolLTheDice

While snaking in Mario Kart DS made online a very intense affair it's something i'd rather not see in a Mario Kart game ever again. Same for the wheelies in Mario Kart Wii.
Missions, when done right, could be a real highlight as DLC for MK8 or in future Mario Kart releases.
I also wouldn't mind seeing a return of Double Dash's All-Cup Tour in some form.
I'd even say a return to Double Dash's mechanics could be a good idea for the next Mario Kart since really, i don't know where else they can go from here.
