It's time to start off the week in the best possible way — the Nintendo Download Update. After what's seemed like a particularly busy few weeks this update slows us down a little, with a smaller selection on offer. We do have a terrific shooters and a Pokémon surprise to consider, along with some discounts, so let's get to it.
Wii U eShop
Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND (Nintendo, €2.99 / £2.69 for a 2 hour ticket) — This title has been available for a good amount of time, with this update confirming a new 2 hour ticket purchase option.
Wii U Virtual Console
Pop'n Twinbee (Konami, €7.99 / £5.49) — The news that this was coming West late last year was tempered by just one thing — would we be lucky enough to get the "awesome" SNES version of this cute shooter? The answer is yes, so it arrives in all of its colourful glory, with a two player mode perfect for sharing this retro delight with a friend. This is the European PAL version, for reference, and we'll bring you a review as soon as possible.
Wii U eShop Promotion
NES Remix and NES Remix 2 — If you own one of these titles you can pick up the other (on the same Wii U) for €6.99 / £6.29, offer available until 24th July.
3DS Virtual Console
Pokémon Trading Card Game (Nintendo, €4.99 / £4.49) — A surprising arrival this week, this was originally released on the Game Boy Color and gives fans of the iconic franchise an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the Trading Card Game. It has more than 200 cards from the original decks and more besides, and is an opportunity to learn how the TCG actually works; we'll bring you a review soon.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Nintendo Pocket Football Club (Nintendo, €11.99 / £10.79 until 13th July, normally €14.99 / £13.49)
Jett Rocket II: The Wrath of Taikai (Shin'en Multimedia, €4.99 / £4.25 until 24th July, normally €8.99 / £7.66)

Meh. I'm still waiting for Castlevania 3, Megaman V and X3, Super Mario RPG and N64 VC. I have high hopes we'll get more DS VC games next week when the free Brain Training ends.
Edit:
I did like twinbee a little bit on the Famicom back then. I'll keep an eye on the SNES one.
Pop N Twinbee should be worth buying. Trying to remember the game from back in the day...
Meh... no good sales for wiiU.
I'll get Pop n Twinbee, always liked that series. Hopefully they'll bring Rainbow Bell Adventure to the Wii U VC as well
Possibly Pokémon TCG but that's about it.
I would get the Jett Rocket 2 or NES Remix deals if I didn't already have both.
I would have got pop n twimbee if it was the Super Famicom version.
Nothing again. Why can't they just release Disney Magical World on the eShop? It's really the only game I want to play at the moment. I am sick of hearing about it all the time but not being able to play it.
Darn Nintendo and their region lock.
Shovel Knight ???
Pokemon TCG!? Wow, that came out of nowhere. Downloading it as soon as it goes live.
Will it have multiplayer? I don't normally download VC games so I have no idea.
Pokémon TCG is one of my all-time favourite games and I still play it every now and then. It'll be great to play on my 3DS from now on.
Pokemon TCG is one of my favourite gbc games. It is just so darned addicting.
I really think the VC games are too expensive. I'd like to try Twin Bee, but I know that I'll only play for a couple of hours at best, so it doesn't feel worth it.
Many of the games are either curiosities for me, or have nostalgia value. I'd probably collect a lot of them if they were around a 3rd of that price. But I can't justify it at £5.49
Hey, I'm happy to finally see a 3DS VC release that isn't just an NES game! Never played it before but I might check it out. It depends how much money I lose buying all the VC Mega Man and Harvest Moon games coming up, assuming they get here soon.
@chiptoon - Yeah I know what you mean. If they were on large sales occasionally or just a lower price than they are now I'd end up buying a lot more VC games just to try them out. As it stands I end up either only buying those I know I'll love from nostalgia or those that get great reviews.
Pretty p!ss poor week, again.
Nothing for me this week. And really? More PAL versions of VC games? Boo!
Erm yeah, where is Shovel Knight? Really don't want to buy it from gog.com.
Wow, really good week two weeks in a row I'm happy! What do all you moaners expect? That's a top rate VC release for both Wii U and 3DS! I'm usually the first to moan during the lean weeks but this is not one of those weeks.
@PAAppleyard Its still waiting to be localized. It sucks that I backed the project who can't play it and there are people on steam and gog are getting to play it who didn't back it.
I know my issue can be resolved by buying the pc version but I much rather play it on my 3ds.
@Nintendzoey couldn't agree with you more, at the moment would Disney Magical World, just being localized, I would be happy (since I couldn't buy right now, but I would be quite undecided between Fantasy Life and Disney Magical World).
on the subject, not much this week, if they would finally start GBA VC on 3DS, I would be happy.
Brilliant news coming out today about more and more retailers getting access to eShop codes. Competition is needed, because right now it costs about 25% more to buy an eShop title than physical, where retailers can cut prices.
I'm okay with a couple slow weeks on the Eshop, I have 9 full retail PS4,Wii U & 3DS games preordered for August/Sept/Oct period.
Wish this publishers had spaced this years releases out abit more though as July and early August is dead as far as retail goes. At least I have Destiny beta to look forward to in July I guess.
Hmm, is TCG any good? I was never interested in the whole Pokemon cards thing when I was a kid, only stuck to the show and the RPGS.
Nothing this week - I want Outrun 3d released in EU asap!!!
What happened to 90s Arcade Racer?
At least we might get Axelay and Parodius some time soon.
Hopefully the Pokémon TCG release signals that Game Freak is willing to release old Pokémon games on the Virtual Console. Having the 1st and 2nd generations there would be great.
I still have my cartridge for Pokemon TCG.
I spent a lot of time playing it but yet I never managed to finish it.
N64 where art thou
@worldstraveller Yes, Fantasy Life is also a game that I am really interested in. That is why I really wish (and hope) that they release Disney Magical World sometime soon. I would like to be playing Disney Magical World now, that way I will be ready for Fantasy Life when that is released.
GBA games on the 3DS is something that I would really like as well.
Come on Nintendo...
Will "Nintendo Pocket Football Club" ever see the light of day in the U.S. ?, it's really the only thing I'm missing out on so far as an importer ... Also I haven't bought anything since Bravely Default was released, I'd buy this for sure. I wonder if Nintendo is aware of the little event that is currently hosted in Brazil, can't remember it's title, but it is about soccer and even Americans seem to like it .... I could imagine worse timing to make this appear on the U.S. e-shop.
NES remix promotion, reminds me that I haven't complained for a physical release of the 2 games in NA for weeks.
Think I'll get NES Remix 2 this week.
Yeah. This week is poor for EU. There is so much to play that I dont even mind it's a slow week. If the same outings are for NA, alls well. Back to more shovel knight, Armillo and MK8. Some DS games would be nice though. Elite Beat Agents! Mirite?
@gurtifus
I twittered Yachtclub Games and they say that they don't have a date for the EU version yet. I can imagine that the game needs translation into French, Spanish, Italien and German and then the game has to pass through PEGI and Nintendo validation again... Like Yachtclub Games couldn't have done that earlier...
@Nintendzoey
Make that another vote for Disney Magical World to be localised. Fantasy Life sounds good too. I also can't wait for the new Harvest Moon games either. Whatever they actually release over here, I am sure there will hopefully be something good soon.
@Peach64 I hope Amazon is one of them. cdkeys.com is better than Game (Who I don't give money to unless I absolutely have to). I trust Amazon more than anyone else. (When it comes to my interests as a consumer anyway).
OMG
POKEMON TCG FOR GAMEBOY? D''''8 is throwing money at the screen
WAIT, does that hint at Pokemon VC is coming? O.o
@Jakeman I love those simulation life games too. I just wish that they could release one of them very soon, otherwise I don't think I will have the time to play all of them. Disney Magical World is definitely the game that I want the most though. Fantasy Life being a very close second.
I just bought NES Remix 2 for my collection last Friday... makes me really angry at myself now... even though it's just a 3€ difference, it felt overpriced and 6,99€ would have been a nicer price... and I also haven't played it yet, which makes me even angrier, because I could have easily waited until this week. Arrgh.
Nothing catches my fancy this week.
Looks like I'm buying NES remix at last...
@Frapp They hide the borders for SNES games. Still slower and jerky (duplicates every 5th frame to keep 60Hz on gamepad) though.
Stupid Konami for not releasing these in America in the day (there is no US version to use instead) and stupid Nintendo for thinking the game will break if it is run at 60Hz.
I've had fond memories of the TCG GB game... and I am going to get it. Now. Or well, as soon as it's out in NA eshops anyway...
Pokémon TCG alone makes this a stellar week for 3DS. I have the original cartridge and still play it on this day and age. It is super addicting, one of the best PKMN spin-offs ever. Everyone should buy it, so we just might get the Japan-only TCG 2 for VC at last.
Here's to hoping Pokémon TCG makes it to North America this week...
Oh wow! Pokemon TCG was one of my favorite GBC games when I was a kid.
@SanderEvers - No, no it is not useless. I, and plenty of others would gladly buy the old Pokémon games again on the VC, even if it meant not being able to battle other players or complete the Pokedex - because unless you're an obsessive completionist, that stuff isn't necessary.
2 things REALLY you still insist on releasing that VC 50hz JUNK on the eShop for Pop'n Twinbee and Nintendo is that really the best you can do NES Remix and NES Remix 2 with a slight discount but you already have to of owned one to get it, Surely it would of been better to just discount both of them at the very least. Drip Fed Drip Fed nonsense.
Pop'n Twinbee is a great game. But without a 60hz release I won't buy it. Come on, we are living in the 21st century. Just release the SFC version and that's it...
Nothing this week again. At this rate I say I will by getting SMt IV before I get anything from the eshop.
Pokémon TCG is great news but still no Shovel Knight?? I wish I could play it this summer...
Hopefully Pokemon TCG comes out in America too. It's definitely one of my favorite Game Boy games. Though I'm sure it's wishful thinking, it would be great if Nintendo was testing the waters for a new TCG game by releasing the classic game.
Pokemon TCG?? Holy crap. I never excepted that at all. Guess EU is the place to be if you love EU and Virtual console.
@Nintendzoey Yes, I think that Fantasy Life will be a great game. It does sound amazing.
I think some people may be hesitant to get the Disney Magical World game because it's a Disney game though. After reading the reviews and seeing some of the gameplay, it did look like a fun game.
I'll probably get Pop'n Twinbee depending on the reviews.
Not ruling out a download of Pokémon Trading Card Game either.
And the Jett Rocket II demo even though i've already got the full game.
@Hunter-D It's like my favorite Gameboy Color Pokémon game next to Yellow Version. The game has the standard Pokémon storyline but challenging gameplay to slice things up. It brings to life the Card Game like to Yugioh card games do. You should definitely check it out.
Please let the pokemon tcg come to america. I want so bad. SOOOO bad. Immakuni must live on.
Hope this comes to the US, finally will pick up the NES Remixes (as I have given up on a physical US release).
Otherwise a rather weak week. Let's hope we get some surprises this week cough Mother 3 cough
@Geonjaha funny thing to say about a game who's main slogan has always been "Gotta Catch 'Em All". I mean, I'm sure plenty of people play it to battle but a lot of fans play it to collect too.
HOLY MOLEY! YES! Pokemon TCG!!! I love that game so, so much. I can't wait to play it and finally own it legitimately (I never had a Gameboy growing up).
I hope that they will also release Pokémon Puzzle Challenge as it was one of my favourite GBC games ever.
I wonder if the Jynx card will be recoloured for this release or even… gulp removed (though I hope not).
Please tell me Pokemon TCG is coming to the Americas. Pretty please?
I played the Twinbee series on my brother's PSP which included the game that Europe is getting this week. I'll download it if it comes to America this time around.
The TGC game better be hitting NA this week too, and link battles better be intact. Now give us Pokemon Pinball!!
Slow week for Wii U owners.
But I don't care as these are the weeks where I can wrap up some of my backlog of Wii U eShop games and complete Armillo, Pullblox, Squids Odyssey, and Flowerworks HD.
Haven't even touched Child of Light or Guacamelee! yet. So that's where I need to catch up on anyway.
Pokémon Trading Card Game was a surprisingly addictive game. Dare I say it's one of my most beloved Pokémon games ever. Nintendo should really consider a Wii U HD version with more cards.
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of Pop `N Twinbee isn`t likely to be re-released also, I believe.
Here's to hoping Pokemon Trading Card Game shows up in NA later.
@ShadJV - That's part of the reason I stopped playing Pokémon in the first place though. The game tells you to "Catch 'Em All!" while giving no real incentive to do so. In other monster catching games you can actually use all the creatures to access different breeding combinations and new monsters. In Pokémon you capture them all then throw them in a box and only use 6/150 (Or ~800 given recent games). Except maybe you use some with the boring breeding mechanics.
I would love to play the old Pokémon games again on the VC just to play the game, not to collect everything in an 18 year old game that gives you no real reason to do so in the first place. If the only reason that they're holding back Pokémon on the Virtual Console is not being able to complete the Pokedex then I say just let us play it. I know some people would like to collect all the Pokémon but wouldn't it be better to please half the fans rather than none of them?
Yay! Pokemon TCG! I only have the japanese sequel on cartridge so I'm definitely buying the first one
PLEASE BRING POKEMON TCG TO NORTH AMERICA! Oh my gosh, that's not fair! I spent almost as much time playing that back in the day as I did playing RBY and GSC! GAHHHHH!
I'll pick up Jett Rocket II & maybe Pokemon TCG.
That's another week without Shovel Knight and 1001 Spikes then
Pokemon TCG is good but...
WHERE IS SHOVEL KNIGHT!?!
The Pokemon TCG game it,s just awesome, safe buy right here guys, go for it!
Holy crap, Pokemon TCG?! Bring that s**t to America! (Please)
I hope that NES remix deal comes to NA but how it works? do I have to ALREADY own one from a given date or I can buy both together
I really hope the nes remix deal will be offered in the US too.
Pop N Twinbee seems like the kind of game that would go over well as a 3D remake on the 3DS.
@whodatninja
It's either PAL or Japanese (then again it's a shooter so I guess it wouldn't matter too much).
If I had a Wii U, I'd be hoping for a NA debut of this game.
People say that TCG for GameBoy was fantastic. And I like things that are fantastic.
OH PLEASE bring the Pokemon TCG game to the States! I played the heck out of that game when I was younger.
I really hope that the Pokemon Trading Card Game comes to the North American eshop. I love that game.
Seriously hoping M2 is working on bringing the main series Pokemon games to VC with local wireless support. That would be an excellent surprise.
Pop'n TwinBee, awesome! I have that game on TwinBee Portable for my PSP, and I love it. Now all the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console needs is a rerelease of TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventure (or as it was named in Europe, Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures) and we'll be all set with 16-bit TwinBee installments (though I have that one for the Super Famicom, the not "short end of the stick" version). Though I'm not going to hold my breath if that doesn't happen.
It'd be nice if it made its official appearance in the US for the first time (via Wii U Virtual Console), but I'm not going to hold my breath.
And just for the record: the SFC/SNES game is not equal to the Game Boy title by a long stretch. The only reason people keep distinguishing the two is because when the Game Boy installment TwinBee Da!! (the remake of the original TwinBee) was released in Europe (four years after its Japanese debut) it was given the title Pop'n TwinBee, the title of which was used by the SFC/SNES game the previous year. Oh yeah, no way people will construe the Game Boy and SNES title as the same game judging from the same title they share (if they didn't know better). Sorry, it's just one of my gaming pet peeves. It wouldn't really be an issue if not for the fact that both games are in the same series!
To each their own
@shigulicious NA are getting The Letter and Plenty of Fishies for sure on the Wii U eshop, Thursday so it looks like it'll be different for NA.
Where's Infinity Runner? Wales Interactive said that it would release on the 14th of July in EU which fall's under this week's update. >:]
I want karaoke for NA, but i don´t like the ticket limited hour play.
I might just jump in on both nes remix titles
@Geonjaha it rewards you with a certificate. Which plenty of players are proud to obtain. A good half of the game is about collection, including the very reason your character sets out on their journey, to COMPLETE the Pokedex. Just because some players could care less about that doesn't mean it's not a big part of the game. Without the ability to trade, the game is incomplete.
Not to mention trade evolutions are also impossible. Want a Gengar? Too bad! Your Haunter will always be a Haunter.
Yes! I love Twinbee. What a lovely surprise for a Monday. So now in terms of classic SNES shooters I just need Axelay. The campaign starts here.
If that NES Remix promotion comes over to America, I'll be buying both, finally. $14.99 + $6.99 (?) = $21.98. I could live with that!
Well I think that discount will tempt me to finally buy nes remix 2. Not a massive saving but takes the sting out It a little! It'll be a little treat as I'm getting my cast on my broken left thumb removed tomorrow morning. I haven't played a platform game in twelve weeks.....it's been hard!!
Pokémon Trading Card Game hope that comes to the states soon
Pokemon Trading card game looks cool though at the same time, I don't really care for it because all it is is playing against computers. There is the pokemon trading card game online where you can collect cards , build decks and play against other people or computers. I guess you don't get to walk and move around though and it is only newer generation of cards.
@Tsurii897 They will never be cross buy this generation. Not on the VC and probably not ever on the e-shop in general (and don't give me that sorry excuse for the squids game. That was NOT cross buy)
Ooh. I'm coming up to another free £5 premium code. All I have to do is download NES Remix on sale and then I will only have to pay £0.49p for Pop n Twinbee myself.
I've had to rework my VC wishlist to accommodate the surprise announcement of Pokémon Trading Card Game. Here's hoping we see Pokémon Pinball and Pokémon Puzzle Challenge! I also wouldn't sneeze at Game & Watch Gallery 3, Donkey Kong Country (unlikely), Pokémon Gold & Silver (very unlikely) and/or Conker's Pocket Tales (extremely unlikely).
people were asking for a new wii u vc game, well here you have it folks. heres a new wii u vc game.
Nice Pop'n Twinbee! Konami seem to be on a roll recently with these VC releases just hope we get Castlevania 3 soon & I'm still hoping for a port of Sparkster in the not too distant future!
I saw the Pokémon TGC coming a mile away. I mean, getting Red, Blue and the like is somehow impossible, but apparently a spinoff is fair game. The good thing about this is that it's a nice throwback to the franchise's golden age, back when it was so new and charming. Not saying it's not charming anymore, of course.
Pokémon Trading Card Game better be over here real quick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got just over $5.50 on my 3DS Nintendo and isn't staying there forever!!!!!
Yes! Loved the trading card game, won't even wait for a discount on it!
About time I got the NES remixes too.
Good week!
Nice, now give us the second Pokémon TCG title as an import release.
I may had been the only vote for pocket football, game looks like a life shaver for me.
@ShadJV - Could*n't* care less.
Yes, the story gives you a reason to capture all the Pokemon, but outside of a tiny certificate that doesnt mean anything (Pretty much the equivalent of an Achievement unlock in a game) the game itself with its own mechanics gives you no reason to capture them all. Capturing them all is boring and tedious, and all amounts to nothing. As I mentioned, the reason I stopped playing Pokémon is because other franchises do it better - and actually make you want to catch all the creatures, because doing so is actually helpful to you progressing in the game, because the mission it's actually well integrated into the game mechanics. In Pokemon its just the longest side quest ever.
Finally I have the chance to play Pokemon "Black"!!!
Can't wait for thursday to come
