A Boy and His Blob was a lovely game on Wii, with developer WayForward producing a smart and substantially improved offering on its NES source of inspiration; the game would go on to have HD iterations on other systems.
Nintendo players will finally get to sample the game while it's looking at its high-def best, it seems, with publisher Ziggurat confirming that it's coming to Switch this Fall / Autumn. You can see some PR blurb below.
- Experience a heartwarming story told through beautiful hand-drawn and animated illustrations!
- Feed the blob jellybeans to activate 15 useful transformations such as the Caramel Cannon, Bubble Gum Bouncer, and classic beans like the Licorice Ladder, Apple Jack, and Tangerine Trampoline.
- Traverse woods, swamps, caves, the Blobolonian Outskirts, and even the Emperor's Citadel through 40 breathtaking levels filled with hidden treasures!
- Collect treasure to unlock 40 additional challenge levels that will put your skills to the ultimate test!
If you want a better feel for its gameplay, below is a trailer for the 2016 HD re-release.

Hopefully with upgrade graphics as needed...
Awesome. I never got around to trying this. Will there be a physical release?
I wonder why this took so long?
The PS4 version has been out for a while and an LRG physical release has been announced but not yet put out for sale.
I guess I can look forward to this showing up on LRG soon.
I hope you can choose to use the D-pad. The analogue-only control on Wii was not ideal.
How about a port of the NES version?
Awesome to see the NES version's logo return
Physical pleeeeeeease.
I caved and bought the PC version via GOG, but I'll be far more likely to actually play it on Switch. (or that Steam "Switch killer" thing)
OH my god. My girlfriend and I were just talking about this literally last night. Neither of us could believe it was t already here
@Donutsavant That’s some fun serendipity! Also nice username, I love it!
NINJA APPROVED
I had this game on Wii and it was really quite good. I don't typically enjoy slower puzzle platformers but this one was engaging. I might pick this up on Switch.
YAAAAASSSS!
More games need a designated hug button. <3
It was a nice Little game, but I don't think I'll buy this again.
I played it a bit on the Wii, was a nice little game. It shouldn’t be more than £20 really
@Sinton From what I know, I don't think many people like the NES version, especially when compared to Wayforward's reimagining
This was a fantastic reimagining of an NES game I had as a kid. I played this with my son when he was quite young and we both absolutely loved it! He had a great time trying to figure out all the puzzles with me 😁 great memories! Will pick this up again for sure
I had this on Wii, has a few issues but very enjoyable up to a point, if I remember.
@Fighting_Game_Loser You're probably right. Still, the game's already made. It should've been easy money to just re-release it for every single platform every time. Makes you wonder how many needs to be sold for them to break even.
❗I tried to like the GameBoy version but could never get far.
I really loved this game on Wii. Like a sucker, I'll definitely be re-buying it for Switch.
@Sinton It's probably because to port it as well as the Wayforward version would take up too much dev time, so just porting the reimagining would be better because people know it's good
A little weird, but I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power and it seemed to review well, so, not unwelcome!
It’s about time.
It has a dedicated hug blob button. More games need that kind of love and care.
I hope the game itself is more HD than the animations in this trailer...
Sweet, this was still on my Wii wishlist. Now I can skip that.
Heard a lot of good things from different sources. I'll try it out; hopefully those folks weren't TOO nostalgia blind, haha.
not gonna lie, that game is tougher then it looks.
I tried it years ago. Did not get into it. I'll think I'll revisit it this weekend on Wii.
I adored the Wii game and would more than welcome playing it again in the Switch which it would suit. Awesome puzzle platforming and easily one of the top 20-25 games on the system
Great game and probably one of Wii's best hidden gems! I'm glad it will get more recognition now that it's coming to switch.
@Sinton I've only seen a playthrough but the NES version looks like it had a good premise, but terrible execution.
(looked like a lot of trial-and-error guesswork, and then once you're get it you're left with a game like 10-15 minutes long or something.)
I had this on Wii and it was on my list of retro purchases to pick up again down the line. I'll definitely get this. Hopefully we'll get a physical release.
@SwitchForce
Clearly you never played it. It was a beautiful hand drawn game
@Silly_G LRG is supposed to be making a physical version
I thought this was already on Switch. Maybe I'm just confusing it with the PS4 version.
Ah I loved it on Wii but I remember getting stuck and giving up on a really fiddly level with the canon power up. It was a wonderful game up to that point though, I am tempted to get it again and complete it.
I had it on the Gameboy. I don't remember playing long as I just did not understand what I was meant to do!!!
Ever since I first played this game, the "inside the caves" music has been my morning alarm tone, generally. I didn't see this coming, but I'll definitely pick up this on Switch!
I wasn't aware there was a rerelease of the Wii version at all. Glad to see it coming to Switch, I hope it supports D-pad input. won't need to use dolphin for this one anymore, if it all goes well
Great news! Hopefully we will also see Muramasa: The demon-blade and The Kore gang in the future, 2 games I couldn't get for my Switch. And I couldn't get A boy and his blob either.
