Publisher SNK has announced a brand new entry to its Fatal Fury / Garou franchise, the first in 23 years after the launch of Garou: Mark of the Wolves back in 1999 for the Neo Geo and Sega Dreamcast.
The announcement was made during EVO 2022 after the King of Fighters 15 final, with SNK stating that the new entry "will mark a new turning point in the history of fighting games".
Fatal Fury stars Terry Bogard first and formost, who has also featured prominently in the King of Fighters franchise as well as guest appearing as a DLC character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The teaser trailer also cheekily revealed that the key art was created by Tonko, the pen name of artist Aki Senno, who previously worked as a character designer and illustrator for the aforementioned Garou: Mark of the Wolves, along with entries to the King of Fighters and Metal Slug franchises.
As the game is in early development, target platforms have not yet been announced; here's hoping the Nintendo Switch is in the running!
We rounded up a whole bunch of news from EVO 2022 which you can check out right here.
What do you make of SNK's Fatal Fury announcement? Are you happy to see the series return? Let us know in the comments!

I want to be excited d for this but most of the charm for Garou was the beautiful sprite work and animation. This will likely use the KoF engine which isn't great. It also likely won't be on Switch. And that's not even thinking about the MBS/politics of current SNK.
I'll get excited when I see the game but SNK are making some decent stuff at the moment.
I really would want Garou 2 to be on Switch, but knowing SNK, it wouldn't be coming over, or we have to wait longer after it comes out on the main consoles
Holy smokes, that is the worst trailer for a game that I’ve ever seen!
It'll probably come to Switch, every Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown main games had always been on Nintendo platform so there's no reason this one will skipped Switch. KOF games nowadays missed Nintendo platform cause the series did not start on Nintendo anyways and it was not that good compare to the actual Fatal Fury series. Even if this one missed Switch it'll probably be released on a collection for Nintendo in the future anyways.
King of Fighters: Garou Edition is what this will probably be. The hardcore fans will tear it apart. I don't think anything other than 2D artwork will fly.
Fingers crossed for it to be sprites/hand drawn.
@BinaryMessiah If it took the Guilty Gear Strive and Dragon Ball FighterZ route then it'll be fantastic but if it goes the Street Fighter 6 or KOFXV route in that it'll be another ugly 3D fighting game in 2D planes then yeah the die hard fanbase will probably tear it to shreds. There's a reason they tear apart the garbage that was Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition on the PS1.
I've always been interested in the Fatal Fury games after playing Terry in Smash, but this combined with me getting into fighting games as a whole thanks to Street Fighter makes me 100% convinced that I need to grab Special and Garou off the eShop sometime soon because I....I just can't believe it! A brand new Fatal Fury/Garou game after 2 decades without one! WOW!
@Li_Bae It's not really a trailer, just an annoucement teaser.
@Li_Bae you didnt like a minute of one art still from different angles? The intern working in this nailed the light effect.
@Serpenterror If it's not fully 2D sprites I feel there will be a large crowd that will still tear it apart. Garou fans are a bit prissy.
YES! MOTW was/is a masterpiece!
last blade 3 next!
@Li_Bae : "Video editing is my passion."
@BinaryMessiah I want a new mortal Kombat with digitalized graphics yet here we are.
@Li_Bae Actually it is a teaser and not a trailer as they had written. It's normal though because now begins the development. They don't have ready the material to have a full trailer. There is not content yet.
I wonder if Terry's success in Smash had anything (even a tiny bit) to do with this 🤔
Loup Garou! I hope the original fighters return. Khushnood Butt!
About time
Bit like streets of rage
@Serpenterror There is no Samurai Spirits Tenkaichi Kenkakuden/Samurai Shodown 6 on Nintendo platforms. It remains exclusive to Atomiswave arcades, PS3/PSN, and PS4. So, there is not "every mainline" SamuSupi/SamSho game on Nintendo platforms. Most of Atomiswave games remains arcade exclusives with/without PlayStation exclusive ports(KoF XI, The Rumble Fish...), sadly.
Edit: Nope, I'm wrong. There was Samurai Shodown Anthology for Wii. And SS6 was in this anthology. Sorry.
@Serpenterror might skip Switch and go for the next Nintendo platform. But who knows. It could still come to Switch but we don’t know for sure.
But maybe they should the female Terry Bogard in the game but who knows
I guess they need an excuse to have Terry Bogard as the "mascot" of SNK, despite not having new games in his original series.
Anyway, I just hope my man Tizoc/The Griffon stays as such and not as The King of Dinosaurs.
It’s a miracle I tell ya. Never thought I see the day a sequel would be made.
I don’t need this. Nobody needs this. Garou: Mark of the Wolves, is still a relevant, top-notch fighter. So are the older KoF/FF games.
If they made something new, that might get my attention at this point.
In this game...the star is Rock Howard.
Garou has one of the best fighting system. Great news!
I'm glad a new FF/Garou title is coming. I don't expect this on Switch though, but who knows.
Expecting my favorites from MotW to return; Gato, Jenet, Tizoc and Marco (the first three should be easy as Gato and Jenet are DLC in KoFXV and Tizoc is in the latest two KoF titles under his heel persona).
Anyone else find it somewhat amusing that Smash got a legacy character from this series, so it made sense to capitalize on the renewed interest of the series, only to come out with a trailer like THAT?
@Li_Bae It's literally not a trailer. It's a teaser.
Hoping for good things.
@Paraka Sometimes a still image is all that’s needed to rekindle the hype. Check out Maximillian Dood’s Max Reacts: Garou 2 video, for example. (I won’t link due to the amount of F-Bombs in there, but the Garou part starts at the 4-minute mark) Heck, even listen to the crowd going nuts.
@masterLEON - It being a still image isn't the problem. The teaser attempts to make that same image appear to hold more in it than it actually does with sudden jutting from side to side only to rest on the addition of the character they fade in.
It would've made sense if that background carried a couple teasers, but it has not shown much than just an alley.
Max loves the idea they're coming back, but that trailer isn't what he got stoked over.
@sinndec Aren’t trailers teasers? Seems just arguing semantics at this point.
@Paraka Yeah, they didn’t even stop to focus on Billy and Kain in the BG. That said, at least we know they’ll follow on from Rock’s ending. Maybe he’ll pick up a move or two from Kain? Maybe Billy is keeping tabs on Kain for someone… we’ll have to see.
I'd love it to be the Garou 2 that was already 70% finished, meaning continuing the heritage of pixelart, maybe throwing a couple of new characters on top of that, but i seriously doubt they'd be able to do that, even Yasuyuki Oda himself has stated this.
These days they would probably have to make it 3d for the larger market. Which is a damn shame.
Too bad SNK is owned by that murderous Saudi prince so I will never buy anything of theirs again.
Better hope for this to come to the Switch successor, because it definitely ain’t coming to the Switch.
@BloodNinja "teaser" is a broader category that encompasses trailers. all trailers are teasers, not all teasers are trailers.
@Branovices oh boy have I got some bad news for you about capitalism and buying literally anything
@sinndec Like I said, semantics at this point.
@sixrings That will never happen. That's even less unlikely than 2D sprites. Digitized graphics are awful and Mortal Kombat just so happened to nail a look and feel that fit. 99% of all games with digitized graphics were bad.
