Saber Interactive had nothing to do with Arkham Knight. That port was done by Turn Me Up games. They technically helped with MK1, but I think they were more charging consulting fees. Shiver Entertainment was likely the lead developer on MK1 because they did the entirety of the MK 11 port.
Halo 4 is 30 fps and 720p according to digital foundry.
"Even the most fundamental rendering basics reveal an engine that has been significantly revised and enhanced over Bungie's swansong. The 1152x720 resolution of Halo Reach gives way to a full, native 720p, making it the first game in the series to hit the current-gen console standard."
"Despite the wholesale changes to the core rendering technology in Halo 4, it's surprising how close the new game sticks to the targets set by Bungie in the older iteration of the engine: 30FPS remains the target, and v-sync with just the odd micro-tear at the top of the screen remains in effect. The only areas where performance dips are especially noticeable is when the engine is background streaming new environmental content" https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-vs-halo-4
So you're saying it looks as good as remasters of OG Xbox and Xbox 360 games then. Prime looks good on Switch but its very much rooted in the Gamecube era with the type of visuals seen in high end 360 games. So yeah it looks great for a Switch game but compared to current gen games well it looks like a Switch game.
What high end Xbox 360 game renders at 900p at a rock solid 60 fps? That is more Xbox One or PS4 territory.
It likely won't be coming to PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. It will probably come out for PS5., Xbox Series S/X and whatever the next gen system from Nintendo is called.
"So I compared footage from PS3 gameplay of MLB the Show 16 and what we were shown from the switch version and I would still say the switch version looks worse."
I don't know, I think the top game looks better than the bottom game. But your mileage may vary.
PS3 seems to be using an anti-aliasing solution with some benefits, but also some drawbacks (for instance, I can see the faces of the crowd on the switch but not on PS3). Likely means different things if you are playing on a TV from the couch vs a monitor. Resolution is probably pretty similar but I am not a pixel counter. Beyond that, textures/lighting/models/crowd density all would go to Switch, it is just resolution/image treatment where it may be a toss up.
"CFO Tim Stuart spoke on the tech giant’s plans for ZeniMax Media – the parent company of Bethesda – at the recent Jefferies Interactive Entertainment conference, and how it’ll handle the releases of future games. He noted Microsoft does not intend to stop the developer from releasing titles on rival consoles, however, Xbox systems will likely receive preferential treatment."
-Tim Stuart, Microsoft
some time passes....
""I don’t know how to allay the fears and concerns of PlayStation 5 fans other than to say, 'Well, I’m a PlayStation 5 player as well,' Hines added. "And I’ve played games on that console, and there’s games I’m gonna continue to play on it. But if you want to play Starfield? PC and Xbox."
"Sorry, all I can really say is, 'I apologize,' because I'm certain that's frustrating to folks, but there's not a whole lot I can do about it.""
-Peter Hines, Bethesda
So, they said they wouldn't stop Bethesda from putting games on other platforms, but then Bethesda says they can't do anything about releasing games on rival platforms because Microsoft is stopping them. If this acquisition goes through, all of the Activision/Blizzard stuff that Switch got in the past is likely going to be gone and they aren't getting CoD no matter what Microsoft says. Smith can cite Minecraft all they want, but Starfield and Rare are a counter-example that proves it is an outlier.
"And no game publisher is stupid enough to pour massive amounts of cash and money to develop ports for games unless they are CERTAIN that it will sell well. Notice that all of the cloud games on this list are either niche and didn't sell massively well (like The Witcher or Doom), or would likely lose their visual identity due to the sacrifices needed to get it to run on the Switch (like Control & Guardians of the Galaxy)."
Darksiders III didn't sell massively and that got ported. If a game didn't sell well, it won't hurt to have another platform for it (with a ~100 million unit install base).
But the "switch can't run it" meme is pretty disproven. This has been said about so many games that eventually get ported over (from the Xbox One and PS4). Just a few recent examples are Ni No Kuni II, Darksiders III, Dragonball Z Kakarot. Future titles included Wreckfest, World War Z and Dying Light and Kingdom Come:Deliverance. All of these had questions asked about where the switch version was in which the reply was "it can't run it". But it could, it just took effort. Not massive effort mind you, Witcher 3 was ported in like 12 months which is a pretty short development cycle as far as gaming goes.
From this list, Kingdom Hearts III and Resident Evil 7 would be the easiest since they target 60 fps on the base xbox one and PS4. Those would be relatively easy and simple ports.
And calling the switch community entitled is way off the mark. They essentially get ignored. Playstation 2 on the other hand got a Resident evil 4 port even though the PS2 was half as powerful as the gamecube and they had to downgrade it for the system. But the switch community with a comparable install base to the PS2 in 2005 gets relatively ignored (but this is changing). The Playstation community is entitled. The Xbox community is entitled. Switch community is the last thing you should say is entitled.
@BloodNinja
"I’m saying the Switch is no better than it"
Sure, the console that suffered from "Rimlag" on Skyrim due to file sizes larger than 5.5 mb due to the 512 megabytes of RAM split into 256 megabytes of video RAM and 256 megabytes of general memory. Meanwhile, the Switch conversion is basically locked at 900p @ 30 fps, does not suffer from "Rimlag" due to a modest increase in game file sizes (no doubt helped by the order of magnitude jump in available memory).
This is like saying there is no difference between the Xbox Series S and a PS4 Pro. There are obviously advantages despite similar raw compute performance on the GPU side and addressable memory (10 GB vs 9 GB).
"I own both systems, so I can do side by side comparisons. It’s certainly not running circles around the PS3 when I compare titles that are on both systems. It’s just the facts."
Your PS3 "monster" 3.2 ghz CPU has a far worse frame rate in that game (compared to a 1.02 ghz Switch CPU or a 1.5-1.6 ghz clocked PS4 and Xbox One). The framerate is lower, it is running at below 720p rather than 900p, the frame is worse, and due to the 8x less RAM, the texture details are lower compared to Switch/PS4/PC.
The PS3 is running in some parts at 20 fps compared to 60 on the Wii U and Xbox 360 (and the Switch release is all together better than either the Wii U and Xbox 360 releases).
@BloodNinja Dumb comparison. CPUs are also clocked lower than 3.2 ghz on the Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, PS4, Xbox One S and OG Xbox One. And 768 mhz is the GPU clock speed, not the CPU clock speed. The CPU clockspeed maxes out at 1.02 ghz.
"I seriously doubt a hypothetical new Switch revision will be that much more powerful than the current flagship. Probably an upgraded CPU or a revised Tegra X1 chip like the Mariko Switch but looking at Nintendo's previous hardware iterations, especially for handhelds, I think it's super unrealistic to expect this 2nd Switch model to be any more capable of running current gen titles than it already is"
You don't know much about the history of nintendo handheld iterations then. The new 3DS had double the ram, twice as many cores and CPU cores clocked 3x higher that allowed it to run certain games from the Wii(Xenoblade Chronicles)/Xbox 360 (Minecraft) and Switch consoles (Fire Emblem Warriors). If the Switch Pro core count went from 4 to 8 (matching PS4 and Xbox One) and the RAM allocation went from 4 GB to 8 GB (matching the PS4 and Xbox One), how would it not be more capable of running "current gen games".
@westman98
"I can understand when hardware intensive Frostbite engine games like Battlefield and Battlefront don't get Switch ports"
Battlefield and Battlefront aren't really that demanding though. They usually run at pretty stable 60 fps on the lowly Xbox One. Minecraft Dungeons is more demanding. They just look demanding due to techniques like photogrammetry.
@Richnj "EA aren't worried about the Switch not being a big enough market, or Switch gamers not supporting 3rd party games. Neither of this is true. The issue for EA is that Nintendo platforms aren't as big of a ROI as the xbox and PS."
Actually, this isn't really the case anymore (depending on the game). At least in relation to Xbox. When Switch had half the install base of the Xbox One, it was a different story. Just look at Amazon top 100 sales charts.
@Unit_DTH PSN Umm, it is on the PSN store. You know, pretty standard place to buy PS4 games. Anyways, today they just released the legendary edition bundle on PSN bringing the PSN price down from $90 to $50. So, price is now the same between PS4 and Switch(wasn't before).
But yeah, the whole bundle is still cheaper on PC. You can get the Handsome collection free on Epci and then buy borderlands 1 game of the year for $30 on Steam(it isn't available on Epic store) for a total cost of $30(vs $50).
What is weird is Borderlands: The handsome collection and Borderlands game of the year edition together is $90 on PS4 store. Borderlands Legendary Collection on Switch with both is $50. And then you have this which is free for a week. Their pricing is all over the place.
Isn't the dynamic range listed here just the hard coded limits of the dynamic resolution set up? It remains to be seen whether you are likely to be looking at those resolutions in the actual game very much at all(or at all). The dynamic resolution system could scale down to 100p, but whether you actually see that is a different story.
I actually just installed the Neon Noir ray tracing demo on my pc with a Ryzen 3 2200G and 8 GB of shared ram. It ran at about 19-30 fps with raytraying set to "very high"(the lowest setting) and 800 x 600 resolution. It had some cool looking visuals even at that resolution. On paper, the pc is a bit more powerful than the switch (~1 teraflop compute compared to 400 gflops, more ram, etc.). Possibly with console level optimization and without the PC overhead, you could get similar results out of Crysis Remastered? Who knows.
@rjc-32 This blurb was leaked on a crysis website before being taken down:
"“Crysis Remastered brings new graphic features, high-quality textures, and the CRYENGINE’s native hardware- and API-agnostic ray tracing solution for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and – for the very first time – Nintendo Switch.”"
I guess they don't say Playstation 4 and Xbox One (so they might mean next generation consoles).
guys,, the game is getting delayed but is getting a physical release!
"We’re delaying @OuterWorlds on Nintendo Switch due to the coronavirus impacting the Virtuos team working on the port, to provide them enough time to finish development. We’ll now be releasing the physical version on cartridge. Once we have a new launch date, we’ll let you know!"
@Steel76 "Yeah, good luck with that. They had to delay the game, because the base models of Xbox One and PS4 are having problems running the game. And if those two can barely run the game..."
That isn't necessarily the case. The base Xbox One and PS4 is most of their console sales market, and they are going to want it to look as good as top quality Xbox One and PS4 games on the same machines(which could be the problem that requires the delay...getting them to look like the developers want). The Switch port wouldn't have the same standards. For instance, if the base Xbox One comes out at 720p dynamic like the witcher 3 was on switch, CD Projekt Red would have a major problem on their hands. On the Switch, that would be more acceptable (as it was with witcher 3). Anyways, I bet their target for the Xbox One is 900p and the PS4 is 1080p. That isn't exactly "barely running". You can go way lower than that on a handheld screen(even though it won't be great docked).
And it appears that the PS4 Pro version will be 4K as well, which isn't the case for all PS4 games (which suggests it isn't as demanding technically as it appears...just had good art and technical direction).
@NINtendo242
You know the OG Switch(not even the upgraded version) is based on the same hardware as the shield tv and that supports native 4k rendering in games (not demanding games, but still). 4K is simply disabled in software on the current Switch OS. Well, how the HDMI output hardware works might not allow for it on current hardware, but the Tegra X1 absolutely can and does output 3d games at 4k resolution.
@KBuckley27
Problem is the install base of Switch/PS4/Xbox One is going to be 200 million+. It will be very hard to ignore that for the first few years when the next Xbox and Playstation start out with a pretty small install base.
You are also assuming that the Xbox and Playstation lines will be upgraded and this platform won't be upgraded at all. Because of diminishing returns, it is almost assured that the next handheld device will deliver a more comparable experience to home consoles than the Switch has.
About $28 and Aveline isn't even available on Xbox. You would have to look at the playstation or PC side for that. For playstation, black flag is currently $30 and so is Rogue. On the other hand, you can find them physically on Amazon for ~22 each.
@ozwally "I can honestly say the CEO Andrew Wilson is probably doing a great job for investors, earning them increased profits,"
lol, not at all....
"Electronic Arts (EA) came out with a quarterly loss of $0.02 per share versus the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.01. This compares to earnings of $0.26 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items."
@Atmosfear Really, this port probably would be like porting Witcher 2 to the Xbox 360 that was 6 year old hardware when it came out. Which they did btw. Anyways, with redone character models, less NPCs, and some reduced extraneous details and draw distance...sure it could run. Modders got it running on similarly specced hardware.
"... anyone here excited to play this game... just freakin buy it on PC, Xbox, or PS4 most of the time it’s discounted to 5-10$"
Just checked on Amazon - it is $16 on PS4 and $26 on Xbox One. Just checked on Steam, it is $40. And then I went to Gamestop and it was $13-$15 for pre-owned copies. Then I checked PSN and it was $25 for the base game and the Duke Nukem Add on.
But with the spec bump that the PS5 is rumored to be getting(10 tflops, 20 GB of RAM), you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between an Xbox One X version of a game and a PS5 version. So, how does a playstation home console gain notable appeal over the Switch compared to the current crop of home consoles that have similar power levels.
On the other hand, the next spec refresh for nintendo's console likely puts a decent version of any PS4/Xbox One game on a handheld system(i.e. every game out currently or to be released in the near future).
"Switch is going to look VERY unappealing to the general public if it didn’t already once the next gen is out."
Nahh, the apparent gap between Sony consoles and nintendo handhelds will continue to narrow. Compare a gameboy color to a PS1. Now compare a Nintendo Switch to a PS4. It doesn't help that projections are that the PS5 will have less than a 2x increase in graphics horsepower over the Xbox One X and less than 2x increase in memory as well.
"yeah and they also couldn’t get the game running smoothly on an Xbox one. Outlets and industry voices who had been to trade shows always came away talking about the performance of it."
Hmm, really? Digital foundry did an analysis of the scalebound 2016 E3 demo and said it was very solid:
the frame time graph looks solid anyways. Anyways, maybe it will turn out like Dark souls on Xbox 360...drops down to 10 fps at points. Still awesome (that was the system I originally played it on).
"They had no intentions of bringing the game to a Nintendo system originally, so almost all of their tools, engine, assets, etc... would require major overhauls."
"If true, this would be the first time that a 32 GB cartridge is being used for a Switch game releasing in the west."
As far as I know, the Japanese/Asia version is all on a card. Other territories get X on a card and X-2 as a download. So, no, still no 32 GB card in the West. But I hear that the Japanese version has english options...so, you could import.
"Given that it seems to tax the base PS4 and XB1 quite severely and they struggle with the frame rate, I dread to think how a Switch version would turn out. Might be another game best left to the tethered systems."
Probably turn out similar to Woflenstein 2. Wolfenstein 2 targets 60 fps 810p on the Xbox One. This targets 60 fps 1080p on the Xbox One, but with maybe a 10 fps-15 fps lower average framerate than Wolf 2. They would probably run very similarly framerate wise on the Xbox One if RE2 was 810p.
@scully1888 "Frame rate and frame pacing aren't the same thing. That test shows it's outputting at a solid 30 but that only means the screen's updating at that rate: it doesn't mean everything on the screen is.
For example, the timer at the top corner of the screen constantly runs smoothly – something like this could cause an automated system to read it as a solid 30fps."
I just went though the first 37 seconds of the 3 minute Contra Network video frame by frame and every other frame, there is an update to the scene ( it is a 60 fps video). So, at least for those 37 seconds, it isn't just the UI with a 30 fps update.

"We’re delaying @OuterWorlds on Nintendo Switch due to the coronavirus impacting the Virtuos team working on the port, to provide them enough time to finish development. We’ll now be releasing the physical version on cartridge. Once we have a new launch date, we’ll let you know!"
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Producer Says It "Might Be Too Heavy" For Switch, But Doesn't Rule It Out
@Steel76 "Yeah, good luck with that.
Re: Rumoured Switch Pro Might Not Actually Use Nvidia's Tegra X1+ Chip
@NINtendo242
Re: The Witcher 3 Was An Absolute Mess When It Was Initially Ported To Switch
@KBuckley27
Re: Assassin's Creed: The Rebel Collection Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive
@XBontendo
Technically, the cost looks like more than that...
https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/Product/Assassins-Creed-IV-Black-Flag-Freedom-Cry/f01d3dd0-7071-4d60-91be-cb3f3fcc4df6
$9.99
https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/Product/Assassins-Creed-IV/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802555308c2
$7.99
https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/Product/Assassins-Creed-Rogue/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802555308ce
$9.89
About $28 and Aveline isn't even available on Xbox. You would have to look at the playstation or PC side for that. For playstation, black flag is currently $30 and so is Rogue. On the other hand, you can find them physically on Amazon for ~22 each.
Re: Assassin's Creed: The Rebel Collection Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive
@XBontendo "An exclusive of a collection of games already out on multiple other consoles. Neat"
Well, anthologies are often cheaper than buying the collection individually. Which is the case here.
Re: EA Looking To Bring More Of Its Successful Games To Switch
@ozwally
"I can honestly say the CEO Andrew Wilson is probably doing a great job for investors, earning them increased profits,"
lol, not at all....
"Electronic Arts (EA) came out with a quarterly loss of $0.02 per share versus the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.01. This compares to earnings of $0.26 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items."
Re: Rumour: Multiple Witcher 3 Listings For Nintendo Switch Appear Online
@Atmosfear Really, this port probably would be like porting Witcher 2 to the Xbox 360 that was 6 year old hardware when it came out. Which they did btw. Anyways, with redone character models, less NPCs, and some reduced extraneous details and draw distance...sure it could run. Modders got it running on similarly specced hardware.
Re: Team Sonic Racing Drops Opening Cutscene On Switch Due To "Cartridge Size Restrictions"
@telepathy2000
No, I downloaded the video at the maximum resolution (1080p). It doesn't look blurry. It looks fine and is 68 megabytes.
Re: Team Sonic Racing Drops Opening Cutscene On Switch Due To "Cartridge Size Restrictions"
They couldn't fit an under 2 minute video in 1.4 GBs of space?
I just downloaded this youtube video to my computer and it comes out at a whopping 68 megabytes.
Re: Pre-Orders Go Live For New Switch Controller With Integrated Voice Chat And Audio Jack
"I'm not desperate for voice chat in Fortnite while playing on the TV. Because let's face it, it is the only game we can voice chat."
I believe there are four games that support native voice chat: Warframe, Fortnite, Paladins and Smite.
Re: Random: Switch Box Art Download Warning Receives A Makeover
This is weird. This War of Mine Complete Edition is a 2 GB game. 2 GB of solid state memory costs well under 50 cents.
Re: New GRID Autosport Trailer Shows Off Its 'Freedom Of Control'
If they want to tout freedom of control, they should implement Labo Vehicle Kit and gamecube controller analog triggers(like Trials Rising).
Re: Bulletstorm: Duke of Switch Edition Set To Storm Switch This Summer
@diwdiws
"... anyone here excited to play this game... just freakin buy it on PC, Xbox, or PS4 most of the time it’s discounted to 5-10$"
Just checked on Amazon - it is $16 on PS4 and $26 on Xbox One. Just checked on Steam, it is $40. And then I went to Gamestop and it was $13-$15 for pre-owned copies. Then I checked PSN and it was $25 for the base game and the Duke Nukem Add on.
Re: Nintendo Switch Has Been The Best-Selling Console In Japan For 12 Months In A Row
@jly1987
Re: Nintendo Switch Has Been The Best-Selling Console In Japan For 12 Months In A Row

Re: Early NPD Figures Suggest Nintendo Outperformed The Competition In January
So, what are the odds that Switch beats PS4 lifetime sales? It looks like PS4 will do Wii/PS1/Gameboy numbers, not PS2/DS numbers.
Re: Rumour: PlatinumGames' Scalebound Is Being Revived As a Nintendo Switch Exclusive
@jly1987
"yeah and they also couldn’t get the game running smoothly on an Xbox one. Outlets and industry voices who had been to trade shows always came away talking about the performance of it."
Hmm, really? Digital foundry did an analysis of the scalebound 2016 E3 demo and said it was very solid:
see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFf1yRT8sgA
the frame time graph looks solid anyways. Anyways, maybe it will turn out like Dark souls on Xbox 360...drops down to 10 fps at points. Still awesome (that was the system I originally played it on).
Re: Rumour: PlatinumGames' Scalebound Is Being Revived As a Nintendo Switch Exclusive
@roadrunner343
"They had no intentions of bringing the game to a Nintendo system originally, so almost all of their tools, engine, assets, etc... would require major overhauls."
Scalebound's engine was Unreal Engine 4.
Re: Download Warning Ruins Box Art For Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster
At least have a reversible cover with this notification absent. Is that too much to ask?
Re: Feature: How Virtuos Solved The Technical Challenge Of Bringing The Final Fantasy Remasters To Switch
@westman98
Re: Capcom Has No Plans "At This Time" To Release The Resident Evil 2 Remake On Switch
@electrolite77
Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Is Being “Made From The Ground Up” For Consoles
So, why are power rangers fighting each other? This is blasphemy.

Weird, Amazon Australia lists it for $70.

Re: Review: Gear.Club Unlimited 2 - Sluggish Controls Force This Real-World Racer Off The Track
@scully1888
"Frame rate and frame pacing aren't the same thing.
Re: AAA Racer GRID Autosport Is Speeding Towards Nintendo Switch In 2019
@NEStalgia
" I agree, this announcement would have been a lot more exciting were it not for "hey we ported our old 360 game to phones, like, years ago"
Years ago? It came out on iOS almost exactly a year ago.
