Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 17th - 23rd August, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is number one once again. Was there ever any doubt?
The game sold an admittedly lower-than-usual 42,863 physical copies this week, putting it just a few thousand shy of hitting 5.6 million boxed sales in Japan alone. Ring Fit Adventure remains in second place, joining New Horizons in leading a very Nintendo-dominated top ten.
In fact, nine of the top ten games are on Switch, and looking even further down the chart, Nintendo's platform has taken 26 of the top 30.
Here are the top 10 (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):
1) [NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo) {2020.03.20} - 42.863 / 5.594.061
2) [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo) {2019.10.18} - 30.689 / 1.366.433
3) [PS4] Ghost of Tsushima (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2020.07.17} - 17.037 / 362.354

5) [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} - 13.862 / 3.119.722
6) [NSW] eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 (Konami) {2020.07.09} - 9.522 / 200.447
7) [NSW] Paper Mario: The Origami King (Nintendo) {2020.07.17} - 9.384 / 231.959

Switch hardware sales were also down this week, with the original model taking the biggest tumble. Sales were down across the board, however, so Nintendo still came out very comfortably on top. Here are this week's figures, followed by lifetime sales in brackets:
Nintendo Switch: 49,125 (12,388,400)
PlayStation 4: 728 (7,640,214)

PS4 under 1000 units sold, interessting
Also I like the fact that although the New 3DS only sold 36 units it still sold more than XBox One X+S combined
Oh I love this time of the week.
I can't wait to read a 'humorous' Xbox comment.
26 of the top 30?! Wow. NintenDOMINATION.
Awesome sales for an awesome game, the best in the series for me, and with more updates to come I am sure.
670 hours in now..
Shame that Sony and MS aren't selling that well.
Insane games sales. Insane.
Wow, that was insane ! 😲

Btw...
It Printed Money...!!!
Go Ring Fit Whoooowhoooop!!
Almost as few Playstations as XBOXes... shows the power of Big N. Now for some game announcements, Nintendo..
I really wish I could have a second island or something. I'm now done really decking out my island and I love the villagers I have. I'd love to start again without deleting what I have. It's such a shame it's one island per switch I keep hoping for an update that allows some kind of expansion
@Anti-Matter,
Ah but sales do not equal quality, everybody that bought it is unhappy.
@Kirby_Girl You could always buy a second Switch
@Kaori-chan 2 comments in. Must be a new record 🤣
I am a believer again. I took about a 4 month break from Switch around March when I sold my Switch. I backed up my saves to the cloud with the intention of buying another later in the year. I got into Ghosts of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2, but upon getting another Switch last week again I am so mad I ever stopped playing. I booted up Breath of the Wild to finish off the last few side quests I wanted to complete and that game is so freaking good. After playing many hours of Ghosts of Tsushima I can say that BOTW is so much better. Link being able to climb and move better than any other game I have played just floors me. And the world behind the game is so enthralling I want to keep exploring. Where as in Ghosts it looks pretty but the world isn't worth exploring. Bravo to Nintendo for honestly making some of the best games I have ever played. Now I am way too hyped for BOTW 2 and I am now taking a break from my PS4 to finish up all the Switch games I neglected. I may never finish Ghosts now lol. I just don't have the want or need to see that one through with Paper Mario downloaded, Pikmin 3 coming, my backlog, and who knows what else is coming.
Good numbers again for Ring Fit, long may it continue to do well.
@sanderev no i can't. I would prefer more than one profile instead of having to throw down for another console and cartridge/copy. I've resigned to the fact that the only current option is getting a second switch but that's not happening. Guess folks just gonna have to call it quits. Only reason to log in will be for events.

Well the Switch is the cheapest console and portable so no massive suprises in Japan...
@sanderev But nobody with common sense will purchase a PS4(Pro) now, for what exactly lol...
You could tell by the numbers that Japan are eagerly waiting for the PS5. They want the PS4 gone and soon.
And yet people say, "There have been no big Switch games released in 2020!"
@Kirby_Girl you could always meditate on the reality of impermanence by tearing it all down and restarting from scratch
@Ulysses no thanks but it has been interesting watching or knowing other ppl restarted or tore down their island. I like my current island too much to do that myself but ppl are doing this if they aren't satisfied. They are flattening their whole islands even.
@mariomaster96 Well, the 3DS has good exclusives. XBOX has Halo 5 (Which I've hear many people say is the worst mainline Halo), Ori (Which is on other consoles), Gears 5 (Which has a mixed on steam and I've also heard people say was disappointing), and their good exclusive: Rare Replay.
Good thing paper mario tok is pretty much a non seller at this point. It doesnt appesr on the eshop charts either. A flop all around and hopefully it's the last of it's terrible kind.
Good for AC as a positive comment. Still in love with the game even though I havent found the golden beetle 😡 and took me 5 weeks to catch a giraffe stag
Those Xbox sales still make me laugh. XD
@Mountain_Man what? There is literally one big game that launched this year in this list, and that is animal crossing. The rest are from previous years, one casual and one garbage (TOK). Seriously, sir...
Man, the Switch is running circles around the rest of the competition. The lifetime PS4 vs. Switch sales are stunning.
How much has Ring Fit sold globally? Does anyone have that total?
@Agent721
3,90 million
Switch annual sell-through in Japan:
> 2017: 3.41 million
> 2018: 3.48 million
> 2019: 4.49 million
> 2020: 3.53 million (so far)
The Switch has sold more in 2020 so far than it has in the entirety of 2017 or 2018. There are still 4+ months left in the year.
So, if I did the math right, Switch is about two thirds of the way to lapping the PS4 in Japan (double the install base)?
@SPL64 Thanks man!
Switch and Animal Crossing New Horizons continues to sell well, even with Nintendo refusal to not reveal the Holiday title of Switch for this year, at this rate,Animal Crossing New Horizons is gonna surpass Mario Kart 8 Deluxe this holiday season or in the beginning/first half of 2021 and become the highest selling game of the Switch.
@Fulgor_Astral Curious if you've actually played it 🤔
@Fulgor_Astral
There's also a fourth game on here that literally has 2020 in the title, but I'll let you find it for yourself.
@johnvboy Who bought what?
@Goat_FromBOTW,
Not sure what you mean.
@HammerKirby oh dear honey, no. Why would I give Nintendo money for a terrible game? Willingly? Again?
Nintendo laughs at our pleadings for new game announcements. They’re gonna retire on that Animal Crossing money, I swear!
Kinda funny how we still see people say "NiNtEnDo ShOuLd Go 3Rd PaRtY". 🙄
@geordie Okay, let me try... ehem...
The reason they went from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One was to reflect revised sales forecasts.
Boom.
@Fulgor_Astral paper mario tok on top of being an amazing game it's already the fastest selling game in the series and it's just a matter of time before it becomes the best selling too, but y'all ttyd elitists are not ready for this conversation
@Fulgor_Astral Just cause you think the game is terrible doesn't necessarily mean it's a terrible game to someone else. To you it may be garbage as it won't cater to your style of play but to the Japanese gamers it may be a unique title that offer something fresh for their audience. Remember Famitsu gave the game a positive score, something some of the western critics tend to not agree with and that's cause as gamers we had different taste in games.
@Goat_FromBOTW,
No I was being sarcastic, hence the symbol on the end of my post, I love the game and have put in over 670 hours, just a little dig at people who do not like the game and claim it's massive sales and popularity prove nothing.
Sorry for any confusion.
@Retro_Player_77,
I do not think the game is terrible, my initial post should show that, my comment was a reply to another of the games fans, joking about the games complainers.
My initial post in this very comment section.
"Awesome sales for an awesome game, the best in the series for me, and with more updates to come I am sure."
Sorry for any confusion.
@johnvboy Everyone? The few hundreds of people on twitter complaining do not equal everyone; and even if it did, no one really started complaining until they were several months into the game, which is pretty good considering you only get one or two days of content out of most games before you get bored of it or notice its flaws.
@KarmaGoona,
Could you just try and read my post, I never stated everybody was unhappy, or even I myself did not like the game, hence my in my comment.
I am in total agreement with you, the game has been a massive success and it's well deserved, I have sunk in around 670 hours into the game, and have loved every second of it.
My dream address is DA-0957-2799-1843
@westman98 and they managed to do this with only Animal Crossing New Horizons as a big game, Animal Crossing is gonna make Switch sell so well despite the release of PS5 and Xbox Series X and lack of a Holiday title of Switch for this year.
@Giancarlothomaz
The Mario Collection will be the big holiday Switch game this year.
@westman98 i see but i find weird that Nintendo still have not anounced the 3D Mario Collection, septembre is tomorrow and still no sign of this game, only rumors of credible Leakers and sites telling everyone this game is gonna be the Holiday title of Switch for this year and the game that gonna celebrate the 35th anniversary of the franchise.
@Giancarlothomaz
Don't be shocked if they announced the Collection on Mario's 35th anniversary (i.e. mid-September) for a release in November.
@westman98 yes i can see this happening.
