Re: Video: Nintendo Shares Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Course Creation Tips

macman

Its cute that they show you the outline of the course by using blocks/cups or other little objects but in practice these items are more trouble than they are worth. If you collide into them, which happens a lot because, well, kids .... and bananas, they will of course move and cause a mess. Large and unmovable objects works much better as a barrier, plus you need to hold down those gates (cans of beans work best). Finally print out more arrow markers! (https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/10/ruined_your_mario_kart_live_cardboard_gates_dont_worry_you_can_print_more_at_home).

P.S. When creating the course make sure you take wide turns, rather than drawing it using the racing line. This tends to prevent the Koopas from 'cheating'.

Re: Video: Diving Head-First into the World of Nintendo Labo

macman

Alex thanks for your review. But as you mentioned these Labo kits are not targeted to traditional gamers nor really adults without children. From the beginning Nintendo has been specifically targeting youths who want to be creative. This should be kept in mind for any who are contemplating a purchase. Since I showed the trailers for Labo to my kids they have been counting the days till it arrives in the mail. We've even sketched out custom designs for the House and the RC cars and got some supplies from the craft store. Personally I can't wait to share this experience with my kids.

Re: Review: Batman - The Telltale Series (Switch)

macman

I picked it up already and very much enjoyed it. Playing felt like binge watching on Netflix! I actually didn't notice the graphical issues compared to the other platforms because I've never played it on them. So from a fresh perspective it looks great and was convincingly immersive. I just wonder how many different endings there are? Plus I hope that the new Batman Telltale game will also come to Switch. I really want to enjoy the follow up to this story.

Re: Smartphone Animal Crossing And Fire Emblem Will Both Be Free-To-Play

macman

I think Nintendo did mention that their other mobile entries could be 'Free To Start'. Which is different than 'Free To Play'. The former is more likely a couple of introductory levels or activities but to unlock the rest of the content there will be a price. As respected as the WSJ is I think this reveal is perhaps a misinterpretation and should not be taken as fact just yet.

Re: Rumour: New Nintendo NX Controller Images Surface and Set the Web Alight

macman

With the rate of recent leaks coming true, I do think this controllers look is likely to be real. Albeit that it may change to some degree before it is finally released. Now my question is could the controller double as a cellular device? Now I think that would be awesome. Think of it, Nintendo already has enough apps on the 3DS already to cover the basic needs of most cell phone users, with the big exception of a dedicated email app. Miitomo could cover their initial social networking needs. It could just be possible. But would you buy one?

Re: Feature: Assessing Affordable Space Adventures and Its Ongoing Journey

@Anchel She's pretty good at managing the different systems. Its too overwhelming though when you have to do quick changes on the fly though, eg. turning the engine off and then on again. But she does all the presetup without any trouble. And she can aim the sensor light pretty accurately but I better scan or shot the flare quickly as she will move the scanner to something else that looks interesting.

To all: This is a great co-op game! If you've got kids this should be a must buy.

P.S. Also, for families wanting great co-op experiences, I highly recommend these 3 boardgames:
Pandemic
Flash Point Fire Rescue
Forbidden Island

Re: Interview: Splatoon Producer Hisashi Nogami on Claiming New Territory for Wii U

macman

I personally don't find I am missing voicechat in Splatoon. When I have used voicechat in other games I have quickly turned it off (mostly racing games for xbox). I found that the vulgar and inane conversations were ruining the experience for me. I would like to chat with friends that I trust and wish this was an option that can be turned on or off. Could even come with parental controls so that a parent could allow or not allow, if they wished. But again at the same time the experience is not broken without voicechat. Lastly WiiU does actually support in game chat, try playing Splinter Cell (BTW a really good game). So clearly the system supports the tech.

Re: Humble Nindie Bundle Adds Three New Games

macman

I picked up the whole bundle when I first heard. 5 of the games I actually already had, but some friends and family were happy to get them instead. What a great deal for the consumer but I hope it is truly a positive for the developers.
