We don't think anyone can deny that Nintendo Labo has caused a stir amongst the gaming community, and even far beyond. The idea of a cardboard construction toy being used in conjunction with an already versatile console is unusual, and unashamedly "Nintendo".
We were lucky enough to get our hands on some Labo at a recent event hosted by Nintendo UK, and it's the first time we've had a proper chance to really get to grips with the full Labo launch range. Overall, we were impressed with what we saw, but we'll have to wait to get our own kits to keep before we can produce a proper review.
Make sure you check out the video above to see our early impressions of the Variety Kit and the Robot Kit, and let us know which of the two you'd consider picking up on launch day in the comments below.

I think LABO has extremely high potential for programmers!
5 game variety kit - $70
1 robot - $80
Anybody who knows me at all knows where I'm putting my money.
I choose Variety Kits 01.
I have a lot of ideas for making music.
Can't wait to try to compose my own music.
Variety kit. I don't see how the Robot kit would be useful.
Thanks for the insight... I think I’ll be passing on Labo altogether.
Great video as always. I’m gonna give it a miss. Hope it does well
Pass. I want some regular games no cardboard that’ll get destroyed in a month
Super excited for Friday! Only two days away!
can't wait to see what the youtube musicians do with the piano
Alex thanks for your review. But as you mentioned these Labo kits are not targeted to traditional gamers nor really adults without children. From the beginning Nintendo has been specifically targeting youths who want to be creative. This should be kept in mind for any who are contemplating a purchase. Since I showed the trailers for Labo to my kids they have been counting the days till it arrives in the mail. We've even sketched out custom designs for the House and the RC cars and got some supplies from the craft store. Personally I can't wait to share this experience with my kids.
Utter trash, I hope this falls flat on its face like 1-2 switch did. No doubt Nintendolife will aim to give it 10/10 just so their name appears on the adverts.
@rjejr Deluxe Edition of God of War?
@Yorumi They're probably waiting to see what people think of the idea in the first place before they go more interesting places. I wouldn't be surprised if they already have a lineup of concepts to use, probably similar to what you're thinking of.
@RedMageLanakyn "Deluxe Edition of God of War?"
Well, since you asked, plan is GoW standard ed. Day 1 (unless Amazon continues it's Sony issues), finish it, then trade it in for Labo Variety pack. Amazon Prime discounts 20% off GoW but Labo is still $70. And it's not like there is going to be a big demand for Labo trade-ins.
I want Labo follow ups months in. I want to see who is still using this stuff 6, 8, 10 months from now. That's the real test.
Labo is too expensive for me. I got no problem with the product itself, but I'm not paying the Norwegian price for a non-limited edition of a game. Especially not if I'm not sure I will absolutely love it.
Can’t wait! It cracks me up how divisive the Labo is, and how those against it seem to be borderline angry about it, taking it almost as a personal insult from Nintendo. If it ain’t your bag, no worries, just move on and let those of us excited about it enjoy the moment.
I think Labo is a cool idea but the high price really puts me off. It's also going to take up too much space storing it.

Me !
I accept your Challenge !
I will use my Toy Cons regularly after i made them.
@gatorboi352
I mean, if you think Nintendo is going to go on for that long without releasing more Labo kits, then yes, I highly doubt anyone will be playing with Labo 6-10 months from now.
I think a Labo steering wheel, camera, and gun(!) were shown in the reveal trailer, but aren't currently included in the two current kits, so those will likely be the foundation for future kits.
I can't imagine why anyone would buy the Robot Kit. It's more expensive, has less variety, will likely break the easiest, and forces players to "wear" cardboard. I think anything that forces you to "wear" something other than the clothes on your back is stupid.
@Bondi_Surfer I think their concerns are a little justified in that they might be worried about going back to the days of Wii Music and the like.
But Labo is more along the lines of Flipnote and Wario Ware DIY than it is Wii Music and Wii Fit.
And unlike the second half of the Wii's life, the big games are still coming to the Switch. New Smash, new Yoshi, Metroid Prime 4, Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion, Fire Emblem... the list goes on and E3 isnt even here yet!
It's definitely one thing to not care for this, but yeah, hoping for failure is an overreaction, for sure.
@rjejr Are they even allowing for trade-ins on labo? That'd be interesting to see a gamestop full of pre-owned cardboard kits marked down to 65.99! Enjoy God of War though, quite looking forward to it myself!
The review for Labo will generate a lot of clicks, lol. And yes, regardless of the score...
@RedMageLanakyn "pre-owned cardboard kits marked down to 65.99"
That $65.99 is so spot on.
No thanks. It’s a genuinely novel and adorable concept, but I can’t justify paying $80 for what is essentially an incredibly fragile and ultimately disposable toy.
Lots of Youtubers are busy doing their LABO reviews right now. I can't wait to see their titles... 'My dog ate my LABO', 'My cat peed on my LABO', 'I let a hobo lived in my LABO'.
This is the first LABO unboxing video:
Best Buy is honoring the 20% off for Gamers Club members, and I have a 10% off coupon and a $10 off coupon, so I’ll be getting the variety kit for a great deal. Going to enjoy this with my kids. I’m hoping there will be a lot of videos like the guitar one to inspire kids to create their own programs with Toycon Garage. My kids already love to create things using cardboard, but if this allows them to take that to another level with programming that will be great.
Will be picking up God of War on the 20th. As for Labo not really interested in it, but I might pickup a pack when it's either on sale for really cheap or in the bargain bin.
@Eef because labo is fundamentally different than "regular games" at its core. It's literally hardware.
IMO Labo is the switch version of Wii accessories. Instead of premade plastics, they've swapped it out for DIY cardboard.
@gatorboi352
"IMO Labo is the switch version of Wii accessories."
It's quite obvious, you don't have any clue.
@MrBlacky please feel free to elaborate, like, at all.
