Hamster has confirmed that this week's Arcade Archives title is Namco's 1981 racer, New Rally-X.
Originally released in 1981, New Rally-X improves on the original Rally-X (which is also part of the Arcade Archives series) by showcasing ever-so-slightly better visuals and a new soundtrack. It also has easier gameplay and a few gameplay tweaks, all of which made it more popular in Japan than the first title.
New Rally-X will arrive tomorrow (February 3rd) and will cost $7.99. Will you be picking it up?

I've been watching some reruns of Starcade now that they are back on the new G4 and that still remains the best video game based game show in history. Nick Arcade and Video Power don't hold a candle to it. But anyways, it reminded me that there are still so many arcade games that have yet to hit the Switch, and I say that impressed with the number of arcade games that are currently on the Switch.
I have loved the Rally-X games ever since I got hooked on the Vic 20 re-skin "Radar Rat Race." Needless to say, this one is going into the collection!
I remember playing this more than the actual PSP Ridge Racer game.
Let's be honest, we're never going to see a Arcade Archive of Ms Pac-Man. Giving free money to another company for doing nothing is something B-N is never going to keep doing.
@NatiaAdamo Ms. Pac-Man is not a Bandai-Namco title. It was created by Midway who I believe sold the rights to it to AtGames, who, yes, is sitting on it and not doing much with it.
If that's the one with the tune I usually hear when playing it, you bet.
Bought the first one thinking it was New Rally-X so I'm happy we are finally getting this. That music is catchy
@kingbk @NatiaAdamo I don’t think it is Hamster, but Arcade Ms. Pac-Man is on the PlayStation 4 store ($4, currently on sale for $2).
And it is listed as Bandai Namco. That was published in 2016 (and still available).

@Tandy255 Thank you for the clarification. All I know is the original Ms. Pac-Man was created by Midway, not Namco, who has created all the other Pac-Man games. I guess at some point, Namco must have reacquired the rights to the game and then at some point they sold the rights to AtGames, which is why it's never included on any Pac-Man compilations or anything like Arcade Archives.
The Namco Arcade Collection with 11 games is currently cheaper than a single Arcade Archives title ($7.50).
I know Hamster needs to make a profit, but $4-5 is more the price I would like to see.
I’ve seen Taito games go on sale, so it must be the owner’s that determine discounts, not Hamster.
Still, I prefer the bulk collections. $8 is way too much for most individual games.
While I appreciate arcade archives, I do hope they eventually get into more 90s arcade stuff. A lot of these games are a bit before my time. That's not to say there isn't fun to be had in these older titles tho. Last time a friend and I were at a barcade we could not stop playing Q*bert.
I may get this. I love this game, but admittedly I am horrible at it.
@kingbk @NatiaAdamo
Namco acquired the copyright and trademark to Ms. Pac-Man from Midway but hadn't acquired the royalty rights. AtGames swooped in and bought those royalty rights.
I'm glad to play this on Ridge Racer. Genius that Namco actually made loading times fun.
Once it's 50% off, like any I've bought before. These games, as fun as they might be, are usually for nostalgia and don't offer much long term play and are priced too high.
@OldManHermit
Q-Bert is a legit great game! I played the %#%@! (Q-bert pun intended) out of that on Colecovision back in the day.
But it grieves me to hear someone with a user name like yours say the 80s arcade games were before your time. I played in arcades in the 80s as much as I did in the 90s, but no no no I’m not old, nope, NO WAY. 😅
PS. Please kindly change your user name to “Youngster Hermit” or maybe “Hermit Jr.” lol
@Teksetter Haha, that's fair enough, I was born in 84 so I ain't that old yet! Old man hermit is a character my cousin and I came up with when we were kids. We tried to develop a game based on the character, (side scrolling arcade style incidentally), but life got in the way unfortunately. Maybe one day we'll make it happen, but until then he lives on as my user name, haha.
@HalBailman I totally agree. To summarize my earlier post, the Namco Arcade Collection with 11 games is currently cheaper than a single Arcade Archives title ($7.50).
Namco must believe that they will make more money with Hamster than doing an Arcade Collection 2 (or DLC packs).
SOLD! One of my favourite games of all time and I was so annoyed it wasn't included in the recent Namco Museum titles! Litearlly going online to see it its available to buy yet!
I really enjoy the Arcade Archives series.
I own 6 of them but would probably own 15+ if they were about half the current price.
@OldManHermit
Hehe you whippersnapper you! I had no idea you weren’t literally Old Man Hermit till now. 😁
That game idea of yours and your cousin’s sounds like it could be fun! Maybe someday you can get it done, indies style. I guess I picture a side-scroller like those SNES caveman games but with stealth elements, maybe the hermit could sneak around avoiding dangerous wildlife and sabotaging big box franchisees’ efforts to commercialize his country town. 😄
3.5hrs into the 3rd and it not available yet... booo. Ok, bed time & I'll try again when I wake up. (Yes, I am that keen to play it!)
@Teksetter Hah, give me a few more years, I'll be old man hermit for real soon enough!
Thanks for the encouragement! Yeah, you essentially get it, something like Joe and Mac or Super Adventure Island. Our idea was to have him perpetually running from the encroachment of urban sprawl, but I like your idea that he can fight back in some way.

"Namco Arcade Collection"?

There are two other Namco collections, but they are NES ROMs.
@PLATINUM7 ...That's what I said.
@NatiaAdamo
Yeah, probably didn't need to quote you there.
