Update:
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Nintendo has now confirmed that the release of Pokémon Bank is delayed, contrary to the Download Update issued on Boxing Day.
Original Article:
Nintendo is yet to update its official press site, but the latest Download Update details have been released, despite ongoing Nintendo Network issues at the time of writing (via Business Wire, thanks Vernon Schleck!). This week's offerings include two new games on the Wii U eShop, some sporting classics on both Virtual Console platforms and a host of other options. This week's a good'un if you can get into the eShop, so the details are below.
Wii U eShop
Dr. Luigi (Nintendo, $14.99) — Announced just recently in Nintendo Direct on 18th December, this Luigi-themed new version of the iconic Dr. Mario franchise arrives on 31st December. There are new modes as well as online leaderboards to try, and we'll see whether this is just what the doctor ordered in our review.
CastleStorm (Zen Studios, $9.99) — Arriving on the Wii U eShop after a bit of a wait, this is a promising hybrid of tower defence and physics-based destruction, the premise of which seems perfectly suited to the Wii U and its GamePad. There'll be touch screen controls, local multiplayer with one player exclusively using the GamePad's screen, as well as a campaign on online multiplayer to check out. We'll get destructive to bring you our review soon.
Wii U Virtual Console
Super Punch Out!! (Nintendo, $7.99) — While many remember the 8-bit original with great fondness, there's plenty to be said for this entry's qualities, as it goes for an entirely different visual style and even more outlandish opponents. Full of character and challenge, you can check out our Wii Virtual Console Super Punch Out!! review while we go into sparring for the Wii U rematch.
Wii U eShop Promotion
Wii Sports Club (Nintendo) — All Wii U owners can have free access to Wii Sports Club Golf, Wii Sports Club: Bowling and Wii Sports Club: Tennis from 00:01 Pacific Time on 31st December to 11:59pm Pacific Time on 1st January.
Wii U Retail Download Temporary Discounts
ZombiU (Ubisoft, discounted 30% until 31st December)
Just Dance 2014 (Ubisoft, discounted 30% until 31st December)
Assassin's Creed III (Ubisoft, discounted 30% until 31st December)
Rabbids Land (Ubisoft, discounted 30% until 31st December)
ESPN Sports Connection (Ubisoft, discounted 30% until 31st December)
Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013 (Ubisoft, discounted 30% until 31st December)
3DS eShop
Pokémon Bank + Poké Transporter (Free 30 day trial before 31st January, $4.99 for one year of service) — See update at the top of the page.
EDGE (Two Tribes, $1.99) — This arrived on Wii U as the second of three Two Tribes Trilogy releases, and will hit the 3DS as a potentially perfect pick-up-and-play title. It's simple action of manoeuvring a cube becomes challenging and complex, with the Wii U version having a terrific audio and visual style. We'll see how this version stacks up, but in the meantime you can check out the strong recommendation in our Wii U eShop EDGE review.
Bird Mania Christmas (Teyon, $1.99) — This is an endless flyer (as opposed to runner) that follows up on the simple, fun and addictive original. The Citizen Kane of games this 'ain't, but we enjoyed the original; we'll get festive and bring you our review of this seasonal sequel soon.
Cubit The Hardcore Platformer Robot (CoderChild, $2.99) — This one-button and challenging platformer arrives with various cameos from other game characters with origins in Spain. There's an emphasis on music and rhythm, too, and we'll bring you our review soon.
3DS Virtual Console
Mario Tennis (Nintendo, $4.99) — When Mario Tennis Open arrived some bemoaned the absence of RPG-like features, so now the Game Boy Color entry in the series arrives to ease that levelling up itch, serving up a challenge to rise up the ranks and defeat Mario on the portable system. We'll let you know whether this is an Ace or a double fault in our review in the New Year.

BIRDMANIA CHRISTMAS 3DDDDD!!!!!
Yep, still no Super Mario Bros. 3.
Was expecting Mario 3 and ALTTP, but Mario Tennis GBC is nice!
I highly recommend EDGE for 3DS. The Wii U version is excellent! Great games this week, especially Dr. Luigi, BUT, eShop still unavailable tho...
Yay! New downloads and sales...... . Too bad I can't access the eshop.
Wow, a lot this week. Still missing some games previously announced, but I'll take a week like this.
My body is ready to keep soft resetting until I get a really strong celebi for pokebank.
Where's SMB 3?
If I can get into the Eshop today I will spend part of this 50.00 bucks I have in Eshop credit. So far I haven't been able to get in. The last 30 or so hours
Pokemon bank. If it comes the 27 and ninty servers are working again
Why does NA get the shaft with VC? I'm still waiting for SMB 3.
SMB3 before the year's end, huh? We're still backlogged on releases. ALTTP, MMX2, and still SMB3.
I'll still get Super Punch-Out, because it's a great game, but there's no reason we can't have more than 1 VC game per week.
Where the heck is SMB3 and A Link to the Past - already got SMB3 on my Japanese 3DS LL - would love to have that on my main USA one
so sad to see so little Wii U compared to 3DS...
All the new Miiverse communities have no player posts because of the eShop. Did the network experience anywhere near as many issues last Xmas? I can't remember any. Maybe they've actually had good sales everywhere...
I'm really hoping there are other sales besides the ones listed here (as was the case last week). I'm hoping for Steamworld Dig, Ducktales, and Cloudberry Kingdom, and I was planning on getting Mighty Switch Force 2, which just went on sale a couple days ago. If the sales aren't there, I'll probably just download Pokemon Bank, if it still comes.
Pokébank.... but I don't think it's coming. on Nintendo.com the date was changed to TBD....
I gotta stop looking at euro eshop updates on Monday. Thursday is always a let down.
At this rate, SMB3 won't come over here until Summer of 2014. Why does it take NOA forever to bring over their biggest titles when the other regions have already got them? But the worst thing is that Nintendo said SMB 3 would come out by the end of 2013.
So, they lied about SMB 3 and are witholding it for some unknown reason. This is not a game that is in development that requires a few extra months of development. Its an old NES game that only needs to be put up on the service. I doubt there are any emulation issues since Europe and Japan have already gotten it.
Nintendo has made me mad with this stunt. If you are going to announce a VC game will come out before the end of a year, then make it happen!
I like Nintendo, but whoever is in charge of the VC releases in NA sucks at their job. We have had numerous VC droughts in the past, and games come out months after they have already hit the other regions.
Mario Tennis is a good game I'm sure, but it's not something I cared about. I guess I'll go pick something up off the Playstation Store, since I don't see anything on the 3DS that I want.
But honestly, if anyone from Nintendo reads this, I have this much to say. The Universe won't implode if you put up more than one VC game a week, especially around the Christmas Holiday when people have shiny new systems and Nintendo Points cards cards that they can download stuff with.
Well, I guess they'll surprise with Super Mario Bros. 3 like how they usually do; put it out without warning, just like Earthbound.
Am I the only one who cares about Pure Chess? Wasn't it supposed to come out today?
For some reason I thought some Wii U eShop games were getting discounted, chief among them being D&D:CoM...
Guess that was Europe only or something...
Dr. Luigi looks promising, I'll convince my friend to get it.
And I can't get on the eshop...
I just managed to get on the Wii U eshop (after a long wait) and Ducktales is there for 50% off. Both Mighty Switch Force games are 25% off, and Dungeons and Dragons is 50% off. I think the other sales are all from last week or mentioned here.
No Pure Chess?
Odd that the Nintendo page has it pegged for December 26.
Oh well.
Got a review code for Cubit The Hardcore Platformer Robot, thought that Super Mario bros 3 was coming out today.
I think it's time to fire whoever is in charge of VC. This is preposterous.
I'll pick up CastleStorm whenever I can connect to the eShop. I'll lay off trying for now though.
So they re-released Super Punch-Out! for VC, now that's something I'm looking out to, this gives me hope that Little Mac may very well be reveal for Super Smash Bros. 4 soon.
@Spuratis
Been saying that for months...
Thanks for dashing our hopes of having Super Mario Bros. 3 by the end of 2013, NoA. Guess I'll pass this week. I don't really want a re-skinned version of Dr. Mario even if it does look kinda cool. Basically, I completely agree with @Caryslan at the moment.
Definitely picking up CastleStorm, Super Punch Out!, and Dr. Luigi whenever they're available.
I was hoping SMB3 would come out too, oh well.
Aside from the already made comments for no SMB3, why doesn't NA get the discount for Resident Evil: Mercernaries? I was so ready to get that along with SMB3!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! Nothing for me this week!
Saving my money for A Link To The Past and Mario 3.
Once I get my Wii U back from repairs, I'll be getting Dr. Luigi and looking into Castlestorm
Despite the network timeouts I managed to get into the eshop. SMB3 is there but I can't get to it. When go to check out I get a very persistent connection error. Will try again tomorrow morning.
I'm sure you guys in the U.S. will get ALTP and SMB3 next week.
Isn't Steamworld Dig supposed to be on sale? The developers said it would on twitter.
The Wii U vc is a joke
EO:4 for 20$ is mighty tempting...i was going to spend my money on some boxing day deals, but geting that for 20 as opposed to fighting through crowds is a tempting idea
Im so upset about no smb3.
Well i guess i can wait another week...
Please refrain from discussing things that are against our Community Rules — TBD
On News Years will be the one year anniversary of Super Mario Bros. 3 released in Japan! Geesh, Nintendo, please stop favoring Japan and give us those games at the same time! I don't honestly care about a million of your Japanese exclusives, but at least give us Fire Emblem. Please!!
I already have SMB3 for NES, SNES, (via All-stars) and my Wii, so I can wait, honestly. (Would be nice to have a portable version, I never got SMA4.) Mario Tennis GBC is definately another game I've been waiting for. Hope we get "Bubble Bobble" & "Tetris Attack" (GB) soon. (Which are out on Japan's 3DS Virtual Console.)
Project X Zone is also on sale for $14.99.
I'd be happy for A Link to the Past. Which I have high hopes we will get it here in the west However, I have had some serious issues signing into the eShop on my Wii U... So many new Wii U users xD It's a great thing, but I really want to buy NES Remix!
It's not fair. I hold out on playing a game cuz they promise to release it b4 a certain date, im willing to spend money, and all i have to do is use a wiimote on the Wii or Wii U and buy the game legally but i dont do that anymore cuz i wanna actually own the game on a nintendo portable device and play it the way its meant to be played. Grr...
@MrWalkieTalkie That's what I was wondering... I definitely read the same, so I think something should be coming. 30% off if my memory serves. Really want a second copy for my wife's XL.
@PorllM Because Mario Tennis is coming to a platform that has more units in the hands of gamers, meaning it will reach a wider audience than Castlestorm? Besides, I don't see what you're complaining about. Right now, Mario Tennis is only one point ahead of Castestorm.
And Castlestorm is ahead of Super Punch Out!! which is coming to the same platform. Only Dr. Luigi is beating Castlestorm on the Wii U. I'm sure there is much point comparing the 3DS and Wii U eshops, given the 3DS will reach a much larger audience due to its larger userbase.
Honestly, I think Castlestorm is doing very well. Its neck and neck with a Mario Tennis game, and is only being beaten out by two other things in this poll.
What's the problem?
Welp Dr. Luigi and Super Punch Out for me this week!
I hope Europe gets some of those discounts too. Specifically Atlus games.
I'll keep on saying it Pokemon Bank is the most pointless app ever and illustrates all that is wrong with Nintendo..... Charging for a Cloud storage service where access is tied to your system? Really..... I really, really, really would like to see Iwata come and try to justify that
Ready to finally make the plunge into Shin Megami Tensei IV, but I kind of need to get onto the Eshop for that . . .
@PorllM The poll is about what you're downloading FIRST.
It would make more sense to me to download the game that is smaller and takes less time.
Are people really arguing over the votes?
I'm just gonna forget about SMB3, and when it releases I'll get it then.
Im disappointed, but i dont think a classic game is worth starting a riot over.
@MrWalkieTalkie I have no idea. Gamers will complain about anything.
i wish Dr. Luigi were on 3DS
that said, it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo were saving SMB3 to ring in the new year with :3
Maybe they release it on Sunday. Isn't that usually when Nintendo releases their major games and even consoles?
Dr Luigi, if the eShop ever starts working again. Pretty soon it will be two days offline. Really this is unacceptable Nintendo. Nintendo has shot themselved in the foot by not offering retail discs in bundles or at the very least preinstalling the software downloads. I never download retail titles whenever there's a disc option. That said, I typically D/L a ton of smaller games and VC content.
For those wondering, I recieved my Wii-U deluxe last year for Christmas and transfered my Wii software on December 25th 2012 without incident. Wii-U sold out briefly during launch and there was no outage or errors that I was aware of.
I want Resident Evil Mercenaries discount like Europe got today!
Excluding sales, I'll be going for the sweep this week (Bird Mania Christmas 3D, CastleStorm, Cubit, Dr. Luigi, EDGE, Mario Tennis, Pokemon Bank/Transporter, Super Punch Out!!)
Where's SMB3 on NA 3DS eShop?
"Oh, we'll have Super Mario Bros. 3 "released before the end of the year"...
LIARS!!!
Can anyone get on the eshop and purchase anything, I can get on the eshop but I can't purchase anything, it just gives me an error message and sends me back to the eshop home menu?
Poor Luigi, his download only "new" game debuts when the eShop is down.
I'm frustrated with pricing on the Wii U eShop in general. Although I can't get on right now to check prices, I know I can buy most of these games cheaper retail. Zombi U has been selling at $30 at Walmart for ages now and it's cheaper on Amazon. The "new" Deus Ex is $5 on Steam (!) right now! I just wish they were able to be more on top of these things to help their sales. I don't have the hard drive space to download these "AAA" titles anyway. I'm saving room on my hard drive for the indies and cool VC games.
@brandonbwii I can't wait for Pure Chess! It looks so beautiful and to have a chess game on my Wii U would be the bees knees!
Why is Dr. Luigi listed as 26th download if it isn't? Should've saved it for next week's article when it's actually available.
@LunaticPandora they do that when they release a game during the week , it will release 31 december and the next update the 2 january. this is why
And NES Remix wasn't listed at all, this week or last, so it gets zero votes in the polls. Pity as it's an awesome game (I'm so glad I D/L'ed it after the Direct before the Christmas outage), but at least Remix didn't take votes away from Dr Luigi. Prolly should take the polls with a grain of salt anyway.
I really want to take advantage of some deals, but I'll at least update Super Punch Out.
SMB3 actually came out in Europe from what I heard....
@SuperiorTech Instead you get a good SNES game that hasnt been rereleased a million times. ;P
Pokemon Bank trial for me. Those discounts may tempt me into spending a little cash though.
I thought the code in bundles was a good idea. It makes people see the eshop. Unfortunately we just saw a rare downside.
almost every ubisoft titles got a major discount in europe + smb3 and a link to the past, Nintendo of america suck so much, it hurts.
@Angelic_Lapras_King
No, thanks. I'd rather have a portable version of the very first game that I ever played. I don't care for the GBA port at all.
I remember this happened when I got a Wii a couple of years ago. so its no big deal it will calm down in a day or two.
Regarding SMB3, my wife still has the GBA port on cartridge. Still play it from time to time. So it'll be nice to have it on my 3DS if it ever releases here in NA.
First, Super Punch-Out! been waiting for them to release it, still my favorite entry in the series. Second, Dr. Luigi.
I probably should have packed my 3DS for vacation regardless of the shortage of electricity of my destination.
@Caryslan
Dude calm down. If you want it so much go on the wii shop and purchase the game there. I think you drastically understate how much work is necessary to release a game on VC. I don't think they are purposely witholding this game. It really isn't a big deal and Nintendo didn't lie to you just something went wrong so they couldn't meet their goal... They don't have to put anything on VC...
Technically, they can still release SMB3 before the year is over. They have till next Tuesday to release it. Technically...just saying.
Then again, I suppose the year ain't over yet, like @Gustoff just said. Plus, I'm having a lot of fun with Super Mario 3D World and I can always play SMB3 via Wii Mode or Super Mario All-Stars if I really want to. It'll just be cool to have it on Wii U's VC.
I'm honestly getting tried of the complaining that SMB3 isn't out in NA on Wii U/3DS Virtual Console & Same for A Link To The Past for Wii U Virtual Console,
It'll come out when it comes out, Learn to have some patience people!
Wish you could select multiple games. I'll get pokemon bank, edge, Club sports, and maybe SMT4.
No SMB3 = Nothing for me this week
The super street fighter Ix is on sale for 9 something too.
No SMB 3 means I catch up on all of the other great things that I missed out on. Winning!
No SMB3 after all the hype Nintendo gave us for the end by the end of the year??? Wow, what a slap in the face. Thanks a lot; Nintendo.
Gonna get Super Punch Out and Dr. Lungi for sure. Was hoping for Rayman Legends and Duck Tales discounts that Europe got this week but I'm happy with what I got. Hoping for smb3 and link to the past soon but it's not the end of the world. Plenty of great games to keep me busy for both Wii U and 3ds
@bezerker99 Just as you and I were talking today we have problem number 2 a bunch angry nintendo fans.
@SchamMan89: I agree wtf right?
@SavoirFaire So true. I'm still waiting for ALttP, MMX and I was ready for D&D and Duck Takes discounts.
@Pianomanfreak Haha, yesss - you predicted it with stunning accuracy!!
Once the eShop is back, I think I'll get Dr. Luigi, Wii Sports Golf, Super Punch-Out!! (and I still need to get NES Remix~)
@ferthepoet
The justification is if people buy it. Just because YOU see no value in it doesn't mean others see no value in it. And judging by the votes, quite a few 3DS owners see value in it. If you don't like it, don't buy it. But why complain about something you're not buying?
I see value in it. Cloud storage for all your Pokemon, just like that game on the Gamecube that was for the sole purpose of storing Pokemon. Well, now it's cloud based. What's the problem? People obviously like storing their Pokemon, and now they can do it without taking up room on their console or SD card. That's the whole point. And from what I've heard, it will be used for exporting Pokemon in future entries. I see ALOT of value in that.
So pokemon bank is out today? Or am I missing something?
Dr Luigi, Soul Hackers, Devil Survivor Over clocked, Just Dance 2014 & Wii U Sports Club for me
and maybe EO4
One reason I supported 3DS Eshop along with its VC and retail is cause its portable, which means everything to me.....$5,000.00 dollars worth by now.....but this slow donkey VC is killing me. I have it all regaurdless threw other legal means but would like to pay for it for the mobile aspects, meh maybe it's time I just get on the Wii Shop and play them legally
The only other means that can be discussed here are Wii Shop or eShop -Lz
Me, I'm buying Dr. Luigi, but nothing on VC from now on unless it's a true classic (like SMB3, Donkey Kong Country 1-3, Zelda LttP). I'm not gonna complain about the VC. I've played all those games countless times. I'm in no rush. But, if Nintendo wants my money, they're gonna have to bring games worth buying again.
So no rush Nintendo, take your sweet time. I'll just take my sweet time spending the $350 in eShop cards and existing balance I have. Makes no difference to me, I've got plenty years left in my life, and I'll be happy to wait as long as it takes. Whenever Nintendo finally decides they want my money for VC titles, I'll be happy to oblige. Until then, nothing for me.
Is unified balance causing all this trouble?
I was going to say that I'm beginning a private protest in which I'd refuse to spend another cent in the eShop until I get SMB3, but I have absolutely no willpower when it comes to games. If SteamWorld Dig is really on sale, I'll fold and get it. I know I will.
This year Nintendo thrills new Wii U owners with:
no connection to the eShop!
Two, count 'em, TWO digital releases!
I love you, Nintendo, and I can understand server errors, but your Virtual Console lineup seems to be chosen at random by a hamster wearing a blindfold. He is also deaf to the cries of your fans.
A Link to the Past, Super Mario Bros. 3, nailing down the rights to Contra 1... I know, Clu-Clu Land!
I'm done with NOA. I'm moving to Europe.
I have no patience for NOA anymore. First their ignorance for not taking the eShop seriously in releasing games, then the result of that with the Christmas Crash, and finally with no SMB 3 here, but everywhere else, I hope many will take the appropriate action, and boycott Nintendo.
Can someone check my usually wrong time math - Sports Club free for 47:58, 2 full days Tues and Wed?
Dr. Luigi at $15 for a skin on an old game Tetris clone seems expensive next to Castlestorm for $9.99. I've played the Castlestorm demo on PS3, it was pretty good, and different, Angry birds + hack and slash. I'm sure Luigi will sell 1,000% more than Castlestorm but it just seems priced to high for what it is.
damn castle storm came out today and i cant even acess it now come on nintendo fix this.
As a totally opposite comment from my last one (and a help to my sanity), thank you Nintendolife for taking care in reviewing just about every eShop game imaginable, and rating them pretty fairly. You're the only ones out there focusing on all of them, without exception.
Continue to fail Nintendo.... Why did I bother asking for eShop points when you do not release anything good on either systems VC....?
Ubi's NA sales pretty disappointing. I was hoping they'd give NA the same deals as Europe.
ZombiU $14 in EU and around 34 in NA
lot of their games are over 50% off in Europe but NA gets 30.. I'd actually buy a few of their games if they were on sale like that here
I think my biggest issue with Rayman Origins for the 3DS is that it's a one player game. It's a lot more fun to play on a home console with friends scrambling for a platform. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great game, either solo or with friends, but making it single-player only takes away some of what made the home version awesome.
I want to get Mutant Mudds (Its priced down ) but i can't get on the eShop.
SMB3 isn't listed because it will be for free on New Years Eve!...sigh. I wish.
I just hope they fix the Nintendo Network in time for the Wii Sports Club promotion.
I'm starting to think that Nintendo wants us to buy one Wii U and one 3DS from each region, because seriously, this is getting really ridiculous.
And I do wanna get some games this week but I just can't because Nintendo doesn't let me. It's been two days that eShop is down for me on both Wii U and 3DS. And not to mention a code I've got from the Deluxe Digital Promotion, it doesn't work, the points are getting some time to process or something (it's been 4 or 5 days I can't redeem my code).
@Obito_Tennyson I would to get me some Fire Emblem, I've played 4 of them so I'd love to get some of the older ones some day, especially on Wii U.
Pretty frustrated that Reggie thinks we still don't need A Link to the Past, but the discounts on Ubisoft and Aftlus games are nice. Been meaning to give Etrian Odyssey a try and the price is right now.
Pokemon Bank.... if it comes.
Oh, and these Ubi deals are nothing compared to the Euro. deals.
@JaxonH
Because it illustrates all that is wrong with Nintendo the point of cloud storage is that you don't have the risks associated with physical storage, but with pokemon bank you have the worst of both worlds you can't retrieve your pokemon without an internet connection but if you lose or break your system you can't retrieve them either because Pokemon Bank is tied to your system even if you already paid Nintendo in advance for one year of cloud storage.... the fact that Nintendo ties your digital games to the console is bad enough but that they would dare charge for a 'cloud' storage system that is also tied to your system is beyond ridiculous
I'm still getting errors on both eShops
lol oh well I won't have any money for games until tomorrow anyways. I just want to link my Wii U to my Club Nintendo account.
@tripunktoj It's already confirmed to be delayed
Now it says that the eshop is undergoing scheduled mantinence maybe they are fixing things?
Bummer, these discounts stink. Too bad eshop service is out, but we've found other things to do until I can't download a game to my daughter's 3ds. Having it down on Christmas is a big mistake in my book.
Etrian Odyssey IV doesn't deserve $20; it's much more high quality than that. I'm still trying to beat that game...post-game is way too hard.
Well, Pokemon Bank has just been delayed in North America.
@IceClimbers
Don't worry! Pokemon Bank is supposed to be viral bright and early on December 27th.
Apparently dungeons and dragons IS on sale we just aren't allowed to get on the shop and buy it hahahahaha
@ningeek185 Nope. Nintendo has delayed it until further notice because of the Network issues.
I remember Reggie saying his favorite Zelda title is Link to the Past. It would have made sense if we got that on the Wii U VC around the same time as Europe, but it seems like NoA doesn't give a crap about the VC, especially considering that they said that SMB3 would be available by the end of the year way back in August. I'm getting real tired of the lies. We were also promised FlipNote Studio 3D, but that never happened. I understand why it was delayed, and why--if it was released--some of its wireless features would be disabled, but to delay it for this long seems downright unfair.
I'm actually in the eshop right now, been in here for over an hour. Mario Tennis is 6 dollars which I think is too pricey for an older game like that, even though it is really fun. So many games on sale, making it hard to wait for Shovel Knight's release. I just bought a $20 eshop at best buy for $16 and manged to get that money on my account. And the mario tennis video is so weird xD
@tripunktoj the promotion means that they are giving all sports for free??? If it is like that I'm getting it too!!!
why is rayman legends not on sale... origins is!!
Lots of stuff of the 3DS if I can ever get on the eShop again.
Wii shop also has connection problems
Pokebank delayed... Fack
@ferthepoet
Who says that's the only purpose cloud storage can be used for? Sure, that's one purpose. Another purpose would be how they're using it here, as I described above. Cloud storage has many purposes and uses, and should not be exclusively boxed in to only that one-sided purpose which you have mentioned.
The outlash over hardware tied accounts is a fabrication of fear, not reality. 30 years and I've never lost a console, had one stolen, or had one break. Club Nintendo is your safety net- I would advise anyone worrying about such trivial matters to be sure to use it so you can sleep at night. Contrary to popular belief, you CAN get your games replaced, and furthermore Nintendo has added the save data backup feature for digital purchases. But even without it you could always copy your SD card contents to PC for backup. Yeah it'd be nice if they didn't tie accounts to hardware, but they do, and that's just the way it is. We can whine about it for the rest of our lives, or learn to accept what is (not directing that at you, just a general statement).
It's a matter of a mountain being made of a molehill. It's just not that big of a deal. Again, yeah it'd be great, yeah I'm totally with you that internet based accounts would be a good thing, but the system they have in place has been working for decades and continues to work for tens of millions of gamers around the world. It works for me, it works for you. Complaing about something that will statistically probably never even affect you is, well, rather pointless in my opinion. And if by some small chance you do ever drop a bowling ball on your 3DS or Wii U, that's where Club Nintendo comes into play. So it may be more of a hassle, but there IS a safety net to recover your content. I sent my gamepad in for repair once and got it back in 10 days, round trip, so it doesn't take long.
Regardless, this has nothing to do with network-based accounts. This is a separate use of the cloud for a separate purpose. A purpose which has been previously served through cartridge, disc-based, and digital games sold separately. Technology advances and now we have a cloud service to store Pokemon. There is no reason for complaining. I can't rationally comprehend why anyone, tied to hardware or not, would be in favor of LESS options. The Bank is to consolidate Pokemon without using system space, and to transfer Pokemon to future titles, and to serve as a backup if you ever sold OR lost your copy of the game.
We all know Nintendo's accounts are tied to hardware. That goes for everything, and the cloud service is no different. We've debated that, we've heard the complaints for endless hours. It's time to move on and get over it. That's just the way it is, I'm sorry. This cloud service has nothing to do with accounts and hardware. It has to do with transferring all your Pokemon into one place for storage and access, transfer to future titles, and retain your Pokemon even if you sell or lose the game cartridge. And alot of people want that service provided to them, which can transfer over to a new system just like games and save data.
I guess we're not getting Flip Note studio in 2013.
@RetroRider
$6?! I take it back, I don't want Mario Tennis anymore... 5 bucks would've been fine. (I didn't even want to pay $6 for "Link's Awakening DX," even though that's one of my favorite Zelda games.) For that much money, I'd rather get something like "3D Streets of Rage."
I hate it when Nintendo gouges Virtual Console prices like that, just 'cause a game is from a popular series... They're only charging that much, because it's "Mario," and therefore people would go for it, and they knew that... (Like how the Sonic Game Gear games cost more then any of the other Game Gear games...)
Granted though, I have seen Gameboy Color game cartridges for more then $6 used... Some even as high as 20 bucks. (So I guess it's still cheaper.) Still, I don't like paying "extra" for a game that old, and especially a simple sports game. (I don't care if it does have an RPG-ish "Adventure" mode.) I hate to complain, but even GBC Mario Golf is 5 bucks... Maybe I'll get that instead. (Is that any good?) Shame, 'cause I prefer tennis over golf...
I hope they don't sucker us, and charge extra for SMB3... Otherwise I'm going to be quite upset... (It's bad enough we have to buy it separately for both Wii/WiiU, and 3DS without any kinda discount, if you already have it for one...)
If I could login into the shop would be nice for starters. Tried all day yesterday and today and have had no luck. Nice setup Nintendo your doing a great job on those you roped into buying Eshop cards for the Holidays. That would include me. I just would have thought Nintendo would be running a first class establishment. You don't see the Google play store crashing out and they have like 10 times the users logging in. Just sayin
Yeah, I got a $35 Eshop card, as my only game-related thing for Christmas, and I can't do anything with it now... I did manage to get "3D Shinobi 3" before the shop went down. It's pretty good, but difficult to "run" when using the control circle-pad, so it makes you rely more on the + control pad. (Which is a pain for me to use 'cause the + padbuttons are kinda small, and dig into my thumb... I wish they made the 3DS XL's buttons a li'l bigger personally, that's my only gripe with Nintendo's portables...)
Holy hell, I think Nintendo VC is super poorly managed, but the amount of whining for a game that everybody has played a thousand times is unreal. There's so much that came out for the 3DS this year that I still need to get to. Chill out people...
@blinkpunk02 For me, this isn't just about SMB3. It's about NoA's lack of ability to live up to their promises. FlipNote Studio 3D, SMB3, and quite possibly PokéMon Bank are going to be pushed back to 2014, despite us being promised a 2013 release.
@blinkpunk02
"There's so much that came out for the 3DS this year that I still need to get to. Chill out people..."
That's great, but what does you still needing to play games have to do with other people wanting to play SMB3?
Been waiting for some price drops. Zombie U, here I come.
I got Star Wars Pinball for 4.99. It's pretty good!
Nintendo is playing us with SMB3...they'll release it when sales of their holiday titles start to go down...yawn Nintendo. ...and get your e-shop back up, I'm about to spend my extra money elsewhere.
wow all this fuss over SMB3 LOL just be patient i mean dont u guys have it already on your old systems just play it there :/
Im excited for Dr. Luigi (^o^)/ can't wait to play online
or the Wii VC don't they have it there
@allav866 yeah, I understand that they promised it. So that is lame of them. I like owning the VC games mostly for nostalgic purposes, but I find I never spend much time playing them. And SMB3 is in my top 5 games ever so don't get me wrong. When they do release it I'll probably buy it that day. I guess I just lack the urgent need for it that everyone else has is all.
@allav866 I agree. Besides, the VC was one of the main reasons I picked up the original Wii at launch. The promise of one Nintendo console that could play it all sounded too good to be true. And unless you jailbroke your console then it WAS too good to be true. The Virtual Console COULD be NIntendo's answer to inexpensive (and often free) emulation. My smartphone can play SNES games so it seems perfectly reasonable that my 3DS should be doing the same. But a pokey release schedule and ridiculous prices aren't very inviting. At least Sega's 3D Classics are reasonably priced. At 6 bucks they're two dollars LESS than a 2D 16-bit SNES title on the Wii U VC. And yes, when Nintendo posts a listing on its main site as well as the eShop for SMB3 (months and months and months ago) and fails to deliver it to anyone in the US, yes, that's not cool.
@Beau_Skunk
Ha, I know right? If nintendo put up SMB3 for any more than 4 or 5 dollars even that is ridiculous. Mario golf is a decent game but I noticed barely any difference gameplay wise from the NES golf tournament open game.
Mario golf has been rated 10/10 by IGN (surprisingly), and Mario Tennis 9/10. I'm not sure if I can get into either of those enough for their prices though.
Since right now Cave Story & Steamworld Dig are on sale for 7 bucks, those are sounding like some pretty horrible prices right now.
@Beau_Skunk If you own a game on Wii VC and transfer it over to the Wii U, you will get a discount if you buy it on Wii U VC. NES games cost $1. SNES, $1.50. I've already done it with the two NES Zelda games and Super Mario World on the SNES. Unfortunately there's no similar deal for the 3DS.
I did not even realize that this was the last week of releases for 2013 on the eShop.
Yeah it says scheduled maintenance, I'm guessing that it might be to help with the influx of 3DS users and or more games added or something.
I finally got the Wii to Wii U Transfer to go through after trying since yesterday, its fun watching the little Pikmin carrying your stuff around.
I was also able to get on the Wii U eshop and download Ducktales and a few Demos!
Here's hoping that Shin Megami Tensei IV will someday come to European gamers also. Come on Atlus & Sega...
U.S. e-shop is back up! So I am downloading "Edge" now, and "Mario Tennis." Can't wait to play them!
Hey all, the eShop is up and running in Australia. Top of the page is SMB3 for NES, Castlestorm and a whole lot of great discount games. I just downloaded Castlestorm, it's got local multiplayer with one player on the Gamepad, the other on the TV, my favourite combination!
I managed to get on the eShop. Nothing for me from this update, but I've had my eye on 3D Sonic the Hedgehog for a while now.
alright! the eshop is working in the US! but no pokemon bank. oh well its better than nothing. i hope we get pokemon bank soon.
Just noticed Super Street Fighter IV 3D is on sale for 9.99.
Been wanting to get it but never really found the opportunity.
Eshop working this morning! Just downloaded Castlestorm! Awesome game!!! Yay!
THAK YOU NINTENDO!
Finally, access to the eShop! Now I have NES Remix, Chronicles of Mystara, and I'm patiently going to wait for A Link to the Past.
Hope Europe will get a 60 Hz Version of Super Punch Out!! too. Would be great to finally get a better version of that fine game.
And i'd totally download Code of Princess for 20 €.
Was able to add funds from an eShop card and make a purchase. For the time being, at least, things seem to be running smooth.
well i got edge but before i could get anything else i got kicked off eshop. you can get on but if u try to buy anything it kicks you off. what a pain.
Damn Americans getting Mario Tennis one week early, once again!
We (Europeans) get Super Mario Bros. 3 instead? Really makes me question why they wouldn't just release both games in the same week in both continents (f.e. SMB3 this week for both EU and American, then next week Mario Tennis for both.. or the other way around).
Just downloaded DuckTales, VVVVVV, and (even though it didn't have a discount) Kirby's Dream Land 2.
I wonder if Super Mario Bros. 3 will be released on New Years Eve?
NoA sent out a twitter an hour or so ago saying eShop services will be down for 12 hours starting at 4pm EST.
Lucky Americans, you got Dr. Luigi
@Monkeh
Man, we'd really love to trade up with you in NA.
Okay, so Ducktales remastered is half off on the NA eshop, but that "save on this adventure through 1/2" piques my curiosity. Do they mean the sale lasts until Jaunary 2nd, or is it another way of saying it's half off?
EDIT: Already bought and currently downloading the game on my system.
Hey, if anyone from Nintendo of America is reading this, this is what I have to say:
Your Virtual Console service is a joke. It started out as one of the best things in gaming - it's one of the main reasons I bought a Wii and a 3DS. So I could play all the games I missed out on growing up. Whoever is in charge of the VC Service should be replaced, post-haste. Heck, hire me and show me how to put the games in the emulators - I'll pump out at least ten games a week, especially the N64 and GBA games that were SUPPOSED TO BE RELEASED "SHORTLY AFTER" THE VIRTUAL CONSOLE LAUNCH. Seriously, you're hurting your loyal customers here. And I know you can say, "just go on the Wii Shop Channel on your Wii U", but we're sick and tired of it! We want to use our game pads as controllers, and we want to post stuff on Miiverse (which also needs more relaxed admins, by the way). This is probably going to fall on deaf ears, but this is how your fans feel! You need to make changes, and fast. PROVE that the Wii U is the best of the next generation. Tend to your customers while you have their attention now - don't wait until it's too late.
@JaxonH makes no difference to them either they already have your money.(
@unrandomsam
Maybe not, but nonetheless I vote with my wallet. The more worthy VC games they bring, the more money I'll spend. So if they want any more of my money for VC games, they know what to do.
@DarkwingLz I haven't seen anything regarding a delay in the Wii Sports Club promotion, maybe you mean the delay of Pokémon Bank.
@Jllanos22 As I understand it from the business wire wording, with this promotion they will let you use the available sports 48 hours for free (All 24 hours of both Dec 31 and Jan 1), but they wont give all the sports for free to use whenever you want.
@canadianryan82 Seems we're getting Mario Tennis on the 2nd of January, so yeah, guess I'm glad to be European. Still doesn't make sense to me why they wouldn't release the same games in both continents.
@UnseatingKDawg: I feel you 100%. It's about damn time somebody said it.
Great week.
But where's the Senran Kagura discount?
Flipnote Studio 3D!! WHWHWHWHWHWHHWHHYYYYYYYYY!!?!?!?!?!??!
do u think dr luigi will hit the eshop at midnite new years? seems most non thursday releases get the midnite treatmeant..
ZombiU - 42$ is the reduced price ????????
As well as the retail is also easy to get for under 20$. so Ubisoft, whats the "deal" here ???
Well, not surprised Nintendo is not on the ball and Wii Sports club isn't free yet.
Well, I just tried accessing Wii Sports Club on January 1st a little around 8:45 am ET (5:45 PT) and it's not letting me play anything without purchasing a day pass or a complete sport. I wanted to do some more bowling too.
@UnseatingKDawg Not to mention, we also want to customize our control options when using these controllers! I think a lot of N64 games play horribly on the Wii VC when using the Classic Controller. I don't get why Nintendo hasn't released any on Wii U yet, it truly is a joke.
@TreesenHauser @Jllanos22 @DarkwingLz @tripunktoj - re: Free Sports Club
I tired it Tues night about 8PM ET and nothing about it came up anywhere, in the game or in the eShop, same thing Wed morning Jan 1st about 10:30AM.
If Nintendo is going to offer something like this they need to do a better job saying it's been canceled. Especially as it's a holiday and people are off, it 'snot just some random Tues and they can offer it again next week. I've been trying to Google info about it and there is some info on them offering it but nothing about them canceling it.
And since it's taken me about 10 hours to break my New Years resolution to be more positive on here might as well go all out and rag on Nintendos lack of streamlining. I boot up the Wii U on the Gamepad but them I need to turn on the tv after opening Sports Club just to see it it works - even though almost every game I play is mirrored on the Gamepad, why not Sports Club? then I need the Wiimote to navigate to click on the 1 day pass, but then the Wiimote doesn't work in the eShop os I need ot go back to the Gamepad I put down to navigate the eShop? Why can't the Wiimote work in eShop?
Nintendo - great games, lousy tech work and communication
Happy New Year every one, time for Pillsbury Cinnamon rolls breakfast, that should brighten up my morning
@rjejr Pillsbury cinnamon rolls should brighten up everyone's morning
@TreesenHauser: Well, I don't think the Classic Controller was a bad controller, but yes, customization is a must too!
@UnseatingKDawg Oh, the Classic Controller wasn't bad at all. Great controller in fact. I'm just not used to using it for N64 games like Star Fox 64, it just feels... awkward. Then again I think I was spoiled by the GameCube controller when I still had a Wii.
@rjejr @TreesenHauser @Samurairu Same here, tried launching Wii Sports Club both days around 1PM EST and it wouldn't let me play, I also went to eShop to see if the passes were free for those days without luck. It was disappointing for me too, but considering last week's outage and this was only announced in an obscure business wire, I cant say this was unexpected for me. IMO it would be worst if they ran the promo and it was affected by the couple hours outage earlier today.
Happy New Year — but didn't NOA promise Super Mario 3 before the end of 2013?
Dr. Luigi = So worth it
@TreesenHauser: Well, that's understandable. I didn't have an N64 growing up. Played one once or twice, but I never grew up with one.
