Re: Review: Bayonetta 2 (Wii U)

jakysnakydx

I'm not a big fan of Platinum games either. I just don't find them entertaining; extraordinary gore, naked disproportionate women and gun heels didn't do much for me to fix that.
I am glad that this was a Wii U exclusive however. Regardless of my thoughts on the content matter I am intelligent enough to know it has its market and that this market is otherwise unrepresented on Nintendo's hardware.until now and Devil's Third up and coming.

Re: Mighty No. 9 Has Another Crowdfunding Campaign, in Addition to Pre-Orders

jakysnakydx

@Seraphna With the fact that I've been a game developer for several years and an in house financial adviser/planner for years before that.

It has been a personal creed of mine for years to cut the corporate crap and even out the income field which can only come by having modest expectations. A good product will sell and from my knowledge of game development there is more than enough money here to make a 2d side scrolling shooter/adventure title.

Re: Tomonubu Itagaki Thinks Gamers Will Buy A Wii U Just For Devil’s Third

jakysnakydx

@wober2 Yeah, until Enron. Lol but when PS4 exclusive "X" and Microsoft exclusive "Y" tanks, i.e. most of the games in that last 3 years the media doesn't discuss MIcrosoft or Sony's financial position. There are a thousand reasons for that but I just wanted to point out that I'm sick of Nintendo being a scape goat here when in regards to raw standing they are the most financially secure in the video game division. Microsoft nearly sold the Xbox brand http://www.gamespot.com/articles/microsoft-ceo-candidate-may-consider-selling-xbox-killing-bing-report/1100-6416052/ and sony has been in bad shape for years http://www.vuru.co/analysis/SNE/financialStrength
It's just really annoying.

Re: Review: The Letter (Wii U eShop)

jakysnakydx

@DiscoGentleman This is some 3 months late, but absolutely. When someone's head is so far up their own bum they think the sky is blackish red you can't argue with them. They are only defending what they see although they are looking in the wrong direction.

Re: Developer Profile: Masahiro Sakurai

jakysnakydx

@Ren It's hard to expect a company to grow with you. Reading rabbit doesn't really appeal to me, nor does leap frog but I don't hold this harboring anger that they didn't advance to post college level alongside me. Their market is their market and you've grown past it, which is TOTALLY fine but don't demand they change or say they're 'stuck in the past' because they target the same audience that you once were.

Re: Developer Profile: Masahiro Sakurai

jakysnakydx

@Senario I agree. I don't think that self proclaimed expert players have that valid of an opinion or should be heard more than others but I agree that they can be voluntarily learned from. The team at Sora, bandai namco and the big N can figure out how imbalanced the game is by watching these guys.

Re: From the Forum: To Buy or Not to Buy? SPIKEY WALLS Fires Debate as Developer Defends Project

jakysnakydx

I have nothing against continuous flight games but what bothers me are peopl who feel this infringous on flappy bird. This concept was around far before flappy bd came along. I dont feel intentionally parying the flapping bird was wise however. A few s nprites to make a new themeheme would go a long way.
My only gripe with RC MMadiax is the lack of polish and depth. I mean keep the concept bu add better UI, better artwork and variety, a little depth. Shut the box is great but 2 or 3 other laypouts would take what? An hour? Add a new song or two. Better menus. Charge an extra $1. Ill pay for polish

Re: Feature: HD Remasters That Would Be Perfect for Wii U

jakysnakydx

Nintendo has a bad habit of remaking games too son imo. Supe Mario Bros DX, Link's Awakening DX being at the beginning of the race and Metroid Prime Triology coming out IMMEDIATELY after the third entry released. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3d being another good example.
Wind Waker HD was a good time frame. Skip at least ONE generation please. OoT should have been an HD remake and WindWaker I would have personally enjoyed far more on my 3ds

Re: Interview: Eiji Aonuma and Yosuke Hayashi on Hyrule Warriors and Shigeru Miyamoto's Definitive Role

jakysnakydx

I'm still not smitten by this game. I'm getting it for the fan service (I enjoy fan service, bite me) but in regards to core mechanics (gameplay, visuals, audio) - nothing.
It looks 360 - not terrible, but going for that art style means it will get dated quick. I'm not a Musuo guy. Hack and slash has it's appeals but the base set up turns me off. I'd rather just have a huge field of baddies than a map with 'strategic' points that I have to operate through with mindless drones for allies.
Even in the fan service area I feel it falls short. I don't feel the 'balance' is quite there. I don't see any real cross over - I see Warriors Orochi 4 with Zelda skins, weapons and levels. There is no 'Zelda' here.
I was actually kind of pissed off when the guy says "what makes a Zelda game? Oh the animations da da da da!" I call horse crap on that.

Re: Feature: Hyrule Warriors - Everything We Know So Far

jakysnakydx

@Naptime85 I hear ya. I'm at the point where I don't have friends who play games like I do (i.e. people pay for cars, homes, families and other hobbies). Online is my only multiplayer.
Nintendo's choice to omit online isn't going to force me to go get new friends or coerce my current ones in to a slaughterfest - that's not fun anyway.

Re: Feature: Hyrule Warriors - Everything We Know So Far

jakysnakydx

I'm a little miffed on the roster. Warriors Orochi had some 70 playable characters all with individual move sets? Hyrule Warriors, the love letter to Zelda fans, gets 13? There are PRIMARY characters that just got washboarded... That just tickles me pink here. Even with such a sparse representation instead of throwing in a ZELDA characters we get this Lana crap? I under Cia and Wizro and Valga. Cia is a new villain (awesome!), Valga is Volvagia (come on guys... we've even seen him transform now) and Wizro is a poe of sorts; at least these fit in. Personal feelings about Lana aside - I feel cut short here on the roster overall.

Re: Dahku Creations Announces Departure From Game Development

jakysnakydx

I admire Dahku and their attempt. I often wonder however if those were games they had dreamt of building or quick shots of creativity when they found themselves in need of ideas. Neither Chubbins nor soon shine ever appealed to me as I dont boot up a home entertainment center for a 30 second experience. Both lacked the level of polish and depth they were in need of.
I just agree with many of the opinions that have been shared: Dahku marketed their games wrong - they targeted the wrong market with the wrong idea with the wrong features and not enough raw power nor presence to force it through

Re: Talking Point: Mario Kart 8's Diverse DLC Sets Up Endless Potential for the Franchise

jakysnakydx

I don't understand why people hold the notion that offering DLC is low. Why are you so satisfied by the prospect of a game ending where it lies? I personally feel games should add to themselves to retain relevancy. Everyone hated Nintendo during the Wii era because their heavy hitters came out so early in the life cycle that no new first party content emerged in the latter years. If Mario Kart Wii and Smash or heaven forbid any of the others had been attended to like MK8 is, each might have had an even longer span.
My policy on DLC is make it content that the true fans will want to add to their experience. The basic back is for those who want a basic experience but for the rest of us who actually enjoy the game and want to see more of it without waiting until Wii U 2 in 2020 allow us please to be satisfied.

Re: Talking Point: Mario Kart 8's Diverse DLC Sets Up Endless Potential for the Franchise

jakysnakydx

@Tsurii897 I ABSOLUTELY agree. Mario especially is just absolutely meant to be a packaged solid game. I rather liked Super Luigi U but as we can all agree that was really standalone, it was even sold as standalone. In that sort of a game, I'd go back to buy new playable characters (Waluigi in New Super Mario Bros anyone???) but for some reason 3D Mario... it just shouldn't have anything.
Zelda I wouldn't mind seeing fan service DLC... for example Hyrule Warriors has bonus costumes and what not, while I'm not a fan of paying real world cash for virtual outfits, those are free depending on where you preorder. But If I had the option of throwing in some retro perks just because I'm so in love with them, I would.

Re: Poll: Which Is The Best Super Mario Platformer?

jakysnakydx

64 takes the cake for me due to the way it let you learn the level piece by piece until you know all its secrets, galaxy never really let you get that familiar as you hopped around so often. The hidden stars were usually hidden not some bogus side challenge (i.e. collect coins in under 10 seconds/Mario Galaxy). I feel the simplicity of the structure mixed with the greater possibilities of HD would make for a fun, simple again, experience. Thats why I love the Banjo Kazooie games so much still, the literal sandbox explore every corner experience.

Re: Review: IQ Test (Wii U eShop)

jakysnakydx

The problem with these fames, especially one man studios, is that games have so many areas of importance. Programming knowledge does NOT give you good UI skills, design principles or marketing ability. That, the marketing, is the underlying fault: marketing entails the design amd creation of the product. "Itd be fun to have an IQ yest on the eShop" there was however no discussion of scope, scale, audience, substitutions or compliments.
Ultimately its really hard for anything to become a masterpiece without additional input and help and properly idemtifying all of the potential the market has to offer. Shovelknoght did this... that game doesnt really appeal to me but they sire as HELL knew who they were aiming for and created the game around those points. As a resultthey succeeded beyond recognition.

Re: Talking Point: The Pokémon Trading Card Game for iPad is a Smart Move

jakysnakydx

@Kaze_Memaryu This is my stance as well. This is satisfying a insert size here demand but creates a much larger one that can't be won.
For those seeking to understand, Nintendo releases this game on iPad, the iPad community now wants Mario. Does Nintendo release Mario on iPad or not? If yes, then the dedicated game base is pissed, if not the casual Apple community is pissed and Nintendo's audience is fragmented.

I personally feel Nintendo's biggest mistake was making the bargin bin basement system again. Every single one of Nintendo's systems has been such and they feel this is the unique selling point of the system. I however argue it is not. The Wii is now only ~$100. Is it selling like hotcakes? No, because the interest is gone, it sold like hotcakes back at $250+. If the people are interest price is LESS of an issue (didn't say not an issue, I said less of an issue). Nintendo holds this notion that by creating yesterday's stuff at today's more affordable price it gains traction but I don't feel that has ever been the REAL case here. It has great content that if on even better machines would probably hold better in the long run.

The Wii U is awesome but I would have happily paid an extra $50-$100 for something better. I think the right approach here is to work with the gamepad to make it its own standalone device that can be played by itself or with the Wii U. The most advanced systems might have a Microsoft Surface tablet running with the Xbox one simultaneously, either or is functional but together they make a great and unique experience.

The gamepad could easily turn into a more portable tablet with an encasement that gives it the comfort it does now. THEN, we wouldn't have this battle. While I don't think smart devices are going to rule the world (the PDA sure as hell didn't) I do think there's a bigger trend to see here, that of portability, convenience and accessibility. Multifunctional, always on and always ready.

Re: Video: Zant Shows Off His Peculiar Twilight Moves in Hyrule Warriors

jakysnakydx

Also, didn't dynasty warriors on Wii U have some 70 playable characters? If Hyrule Warriors stops here I'm going to be pissed!
Saria, Tingle, Gruse, Aghanim, Sahasrahla, Yuga, Nabooru, Darmani, Darbus, Skull Kid, Makau, Mido, Barnes Prine Ralis, Queen Rutela, Ashi, Auru, Coro, Fyer and Falbi, Captain Skipper Gulley, Irene, Oren, Osfala, Rosso, Seres, Din, Farore and Nayru (oracles). I think we could all go on.
Fierce Deity anyone?

Re: Video: Zant Shows Off His Peculiar Twilight Moves in Hyrule Warriors

jakysnakydx

@AJWolfTill I feel ya! I think it makes sense though... so I'm torn. He's this dark creepy mysterious new enemy in twilight princess and then we fight him and hes this power hungry dweeb. But that's the whole point! He was a nobody who was granted power, his oddities show that gaining power doesn't make you that much more than who you were before. Still though, his voice is pretty gay.

Re: Talking Point: Deconstructing Nintendo's Retail Releases of Wii U eShop Titles

jakysnakydx

If I have the option I always choose the physical package but in the wake of eShop releases LATER getting the retail treatment I feel slightly disillusioned. I do agree with Thomas' point however about whether or not this belittles the eShop. If Nintendo fans find out that they can hold out for a better shinier retail release we may cannibalize eShop sales. Now as Tops said if we from the get go have the option then that's a bit of a different issue, we get to choose. In the event of back tracking, I feel its a great disparity. I like the exclusivity of eShop titles... smaller pieces that are download only. I also feel cheated that I would now rather have retail copies of NES Remix and Wii Sports.

Re: Video: The 10 Best Zelda Games As Selected By You

jakysnakydx

OoT wasn't my number one but it is on my top X list. I didn't play it as a kid, I played it when I was older, I think 18 or so when I first actually sat and played start to finish. It's a genuinely great game. The combat is dated, the sit, wait, strike formula is long past but elements such as character progression, difficulty progression, the actual puzzle adventuring and other elements make it a wonderful title. OoT was also the first Zelda game to REALLY build a deeper story arch. LttP had the story but it's story telling abilities were limited. OoT also made you jump through hoops to progress but it's method of doing so allowed you to be mesmerized by this world where most areas/objects have meaning.
Getting Epona for the first time opens up paths, drastically increases progression and was just so well played that it still stands as a highlight of game progression to me. Warping was later implemented but it never really overtook traveling either (twilight princess killed this mechanic, I never walked anywhere again - warp and wolf, warp and wolf).

Re: Video: The 10 Best Zelda Games As Selected By You

jakysnakydx

@moomoo FINALLY someone I agree with on here.

In general, I finished WindWaker which meant its wasn't... terrible, I guess ... but I really don't understand why it was so much higher than other Zelda games. To further that confusion no one ever presents a reason besides story and graphics... which to me I hated and still hate the graphics and the story is as non existent as any other game but only features an interesting back story.
