@SanderEvers I full heartedly agree but there are a few other things to take into account that are changing in the environment. The question we have to answer lies in that this is a slightly different scenario. Mr. Whitehead mentioned that within a few weeks time it is near impossible to find a game without knowing it by name now while this may always be the case it is definitely promulgated by an exacerbated and exorbitant amount of shovelware. Nano Assault might be unrecognizable to new Wii U owners because they are flooded with information about Ava and Avior save Earth. We see this on the iOS and Play markets daily. I do feel greater definition would create an equal opportunity environment. We already see that retail games or big name publisher's do have a slight highlight or differentiation on the eShop to let us know they are a different caliber. Perhaps a little dividing will go along way? I definitely agree that one mans trash is another mans treasurebut definitely to a degree.
@DefHalan Then the game shouldn't have been released. That's really all there is to it. There are analogies and examples galore that could be made but from an actual consumer standpoint, his decision was disastrous. It may get better with time but you only have one first impression.
@Stu13 Lot check has nothing to do with quality control. They actually don't even check for bugs. The purpose of lotcheck is literally to see if the game identifies with all of the requirements set forth by Nintendo in regards to intellectual property usage (referring to things like Wii Remote instead of saying Wiimote, logo's, etc.) Nintendo allows developer's to release literally whatever they want so long as it doesn't infringe directly on copyright, contain excessive gore bordering on horrific, pornography or deep religious views. (I.e. difference between Fire Emblem God references and the binding of Isaac) Just so you don't blame Nintendo for what the developers did, lol. I feel bad for the poor lotcheck guys... can you imagine playing this kind of garbage and NOT being able to say something.
Golden Sun is my favorite RPG of all time. I just loved its execution. There were problems... like the exorbitant dialogue... but it's a gem. I have all three and pray for a new one! A 3ds entry would really diversify the 3ds' library of great RPG's.
@2Sang There we go. Agreed. It's true isn't it? I don't like being on the whiny side but they seriously crapped on their MOST loyal fans. I'm going to get lynched for this but the people who spend crap loads of money on Nintendo stuff just got pissed on... I totally hear ya.
@2Sang Couple of corrections to that example, (ironic as I just saw you did the same, lol). The posters Nintendo gave way are significantly bigger. 28x22 is just bigger than 4 pieces of computer paper taped together. That and each poster set included 3 full bodied hard high gloss mat. You might have the 100 lb right but the type of paper is far more expensive than matte. Printing the materials is just one thing as then you have the logistics of sorting members and shipping them across the world. I'm not even going to attempt to put a number on it but it's more expensive than $10,000.
All of that was just to be fair, I'm probably on your side as I hate the idea of download games but... let's give them some credit.
@MagicEmperor That's true... someone will benefit from this but you and I are the same. They just 'thanked' us for spending hundreds upon hundreds of dollars by giving us a second copy of one of those games... woopy.
@Axed84 @AlGator That's where I stand. To get the coins I had to buy the games listed above... I MIGHT get a 3ds download but I have all of the Wii U games. Ultimately, you're rewarding me with how I got here; buy 100 ice cream cones to win an ice cream cone. I'm very disappointed. For those wondering about 'why' they chose to do this, it really is simple actually. You have to remember that there is no direct cost to selling a game. The game is made and you have infinite copies of it so giving one away digitally which requires nothing doesn't 'cost' anything. Yes, yes, yes, they lose potential gain from selling the game but at the end of the day it's free to them to offer these instead of making some gift and shipping it. The free gifts might have been 'cheesy' to others but I recognize them for the incredible expense they are. This however, having been spoiled, is now lazy to me. The issue isn't even the laziness though, like I mentioned above it's the fact that it's impractical. I have these already... that's how I BECAME a platinum member.
I don't know about this case because I'm nowhere NEAR a Pokemon expert but I do feel that anyone who attempts to win using illegal Pokemon should be banned instantaneously without any further suggestions.
@wober2 I see where you're going with that. We're not talking about the actual 'business of games and making them' but that all we're hearing is 'sales this and sales that'? There I have to agree... I'm tired of talking about that 'financial state of the Wii U', I'd really just like an article to talk about "Wii U game ______ was really _______".
For the first time in my life the multiplayer sounds better to me than the single player. The 'clans' vying for territory and using propaganda to get them on your side is awesome!!!
As long as we're listing our innermost desires, I'm personally hoping for Darunia - Goron Chiec Makau - Indiegogo Zora Band guitarist Gerudo Sword Guard and honestly I think I'd like to take a go at this as Deku Link ... and it goes without saying the great Deity Link
@Jazzer94 That's what I feel. This game does not appear to have required $4,000,000. Why it could possibly need more is beyond me and I'm led to believe they are doing this simply because they could. Why not get more money if you know your fans are going to?
It is my personal opinion that if a developer wants to commit him/herself or themselves they can buckle down and put something in, not grovel for more money to support a particular expectation of financial gain.
@Yorumi I see what you're saying. I agree on the art style bit as well. That has alot to do with is, especially since we're talking about a human character not a tree or fish humanoid those traits become more prevalent.
@DanteSolablood The Wii U is in a bad spot yes but the company is not on the brink of nonexistence. Just a heads up. I'm not going to go through the rhetoric, you probably already know it, but there is a BIG difference from, "whoops I screwed the pooch" to "I'm filing bankruptcy".
EDIT: I also wanted to comment on the PC part of your post. What does an average 'gaming rig' cost? Mine was $2,000. That's a big far cry from the cost of a Wii U or a 3ds. Even so, how many people have their computer hooked up to their TV? I've only ever known one person to do that. Console's are the average Joe's way of playing games on their living room. This reminds me of a conversation I had with a guy who said 'Why buy Wii U when we can all just play together on our own ipad's"... yeah, cause everyone has $3,000 to spend on 6 iPads right?
@rjejr Its predominantly a marketing subject rather than a supply chain or finance. The beginning price is very much a COGS question but in terms of price drops gaming deviecs don't follow the same pattern as smart devices or computers in general. Take the iPhone (whatever's most current). It doesn't cost $500 to make but they know they can sell it for that price so they do. Nintendo likes to make a product, price it and keep it there for ever if possible. Because hardware looses its value much faster than software we do see price drops but not in the same pattern or time table, again, as other categories.
The 3ds is more than capable of holding a version of minecraft but what is all of this discussion on graphics anyway? The entire friggin game is a giant pixel box. I agree it's clever and fun but graphics? The 3ds can handle a few giant squares. Understandably it wouldn't have infinite worlds but that's not what 3ds users want, imo. One big open sandbox and the ability to share info cough cough dream suite in animal crossing * would be plenty fine. Majong again imo, CLEARLY has something against associating their products with Nintendo or 'children' or something. The amount of animosity they have towards the idea is overwhelming. The ease of putting minecraft on Wii U (as a developer) is as simple as one phone call. They could have it ported to Wii U in a week.if they wanted.too. That's where we get the question: Why don't they?
@Yorumi I see what you're saying but Lana's weirdness isn't unique, it's stereotypical Japanese anime girly glowy eyed. It isn't Zelda weird, it's just "Hey we don't have enough skimpy Japan porn in here, let's make a new character" weird. (cough Team Ninja) Although I will give them props for making her acceptably dressed.
EDIT: It's just how it was all derived and what it happened to be. If this were a core Zelda game and we met a side character who looked like this and that was not an overly common attribute as seen in all Japanese media than I probably wouldn't bat two eyes at it. But for me this is like adding some skinny blonde guy in swim trunks and a Hawaiian shirt who goes 'DUUUUUUDE LIKE AWWWWESOME!" and calling it a main character who stands next to link.
My favorite thing about Zelda is how close it is to other games without touching them in any way. Gorons, Zora's and Deku's compared to Elves, Orcs and Dwarves, etc. All of the weird in Zelda is really it's own quirkiness, so to see a common quirk thrown in, I feel it's like pink over a black surface.
@Warbeard Thank you. This is what I was going to get at. I don' mind new characters in the Zelda series but this gal is comletely unnecessary. She is absolutely a cheap, uninhibited Japanese anime girl and I don't think she fits in this environment AT ALL. There was probably need for her in the plot somehow but if not this was Koei Tecmo/Team Ninja's attempt at influencing the Zelda series but as per usual in a terrible way.
I definitely feel mobile gaming with TV connectivity is the 'way of the future'... now here me out before we all assume what I mean to say by only reading one sentence. The CURRENT status of mobile games is a joke. I do feel however that tablet technology is going to continue to advance. Buttons and home theaters aren't going anywhere. I wish Nintendo had made the WIi U Gamepad a stand alone feature that I could take with me and play on the go (it might have needed a different physical design for that) and then sync it to a system at home to use it for asynchronous and other more in depth gaming experiences. Tablet's currently connect to the TV for some material but no one is really utilizing the objects at hand for anything REALLY meaningful. I understand there are a few good things out there but on an industry wide level, tablet's aren't overtaking consoles/handheld gaming devices quite yet. My main point in all of this is that I feel someday my Android tablet might just sync up to a box on my TV stand that has a lot more power to play some pretty spiffy games with a command console on my lap as a control (with buttons)
@midnafanboy like you said before... hype. It's true. I have NO desire to play assassin's creed ... any of them. Or Far Cry. Both are the same mediocre games that came out 10 years ago. ANyone here remember when farcry was a joke?
@Hernandez My argument is that I don't believe there are many people out there. And your example is exactly the same as the one I gave. You have all the third party offerings and then it's just a question of what exclusives you want. That said what do we have? A Wii U exactly like what we have now with all the 'Nintendo fanboys' getting WIi U for the NIntendo exclusives and the rest of the world still doesn't have a reason. Basically what you're asking for is WIi U to garner third party support. That's really it. Even if they did get it, why would the rest of the world change systems? They don't want Nintendo exclusives to begin with so what attraction to 'real men and real hardcore gamers' have to juimp ship to Nintendo? Nothing. It'd be exactly where we are now without such abysmal support. That's how I see it at least. It would be AWESOME to have that content here as well on Wii U but I don't think it would 'save' Nintendo as you think it might.
I also want to say: I LOVE how people who like Nintendo content are all 'fanboys' no matter what age, how long they've been playing video games or any other defining feature and all 'real' gamers are those who like games with porn, violence and bad language. If you don't like THOSE games you don't really like video games and you're probably a Nintendo fan boy. I like Playstation, I do, I've always liked their first party content. I like Ubisoft's policies and how they run their organization but I don't actually care for much or any of their content. EA doesn't have a SINGLE game that attracts me in anyway and because of that I'm not a real gamer. Personally I think it's asinine. Bethesda is a joke whose ONLY skill in video games is recreating blood and comments from Bethesda employees (especially executives) in regards to what makes a game I find beyond hypocritical and moronic. It's just... the whole dynamic of society and 'what a video game ought to be' according to many, doesn't make any sense to me.
@Hernandez That poses a real question I think almost all gamers and others alike tend to disregard. If Nintendo made a system just as powerful as the PS4 and XBone with no game pad would people by it? Why or why not? That's what I really want to hear, why or why not? I want to hear reason from anyone who takes up this question. I say no because then what? We have three systems that are ALL exactly the same and offer the same content. We'd then have three systems ALL exactly the same with no difference except for each systems individual properties. The final determination would be one simple question! What do you want more? Halo and Gears of War? Legend of Zelda and Mario? Or God of War and Uncharted. Why would anyone choose the system based on anything else? At that point they'd all be priced the same, offer the same third party content across the board and any one who isn't a 'Nintendo fanboy' who likes those first party games would have absolutely no reason to buy it.
If Nintendo created a PS4 equivalent it would have no market.
@midnafanboy Thank you for pointing that out... Assasin's creed 4 took the most social media hype as graphs showed and I don't get why. "Oh my gosh look! We get to do THE EXACT SAME THING VERBATIM!!!" It's just beyond me why everyone's so excited about that game. As for Far Cry 4 exact same situation... I remember when far cry was that game series that just kept coming out but everyone wanted it to die, then 3 comes out and "OHMIGOSH! I LOOOOOVE THIS GAME AND ALWAYS HAVE!" I don't get it :/ Anyone who likes those games, awesome, I really don't care but personally I just don't get why it influences the masses so much.
The dumbest decision Nintendo could ever make with Mario Kart 8 is not including additional tracks as DLC. The game already has just as many courses as every other rendition of Mario Kart (excluding super circuit but those are far easier to make) so at this point, anyone against DLC can shove it right back down their throat. You got what you paid for now the rest of us who want more can get it. I'd be content with remakes of courses from previous titles. Banshee boardwalk!
I'm actually not to worried about the 2015 thing, I mean realistically it's a wise move. Nintendo has ALOT of press and marketing to nail from now until the holiday season and obviously December is going to be about maximizing Smash Bros Wii U and probably one or two other side titles for the crows who is actually NOT interested in SSB Wii U. Why release all of these games side by side? Then have a 6 month drought in the early next year? I think it's obvious that Nintendo is spacing these the same way the 3ds took off last year with Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem, Shin Mengami, new leaf and donkey kong returns 3d all taking a month space to keep up momentum. If Nintendo plays this card the way they have intentioned we'll see consecutive releases from now until heaven knows when. That's a positive move!
@SleepyCrossing I could see these being morphed into a future animal crossing title really well! Your villagers stats in brawl could affect a plethora of decisions in Animal Crossing. An update to new leaf would be really neat just as gaining bells by winning fights. Heck, that'd be AWESOME!
@rjejr I feel the inclusion of the game cube controller adapter as an obvious one as that is, for super smash bros circles, an obvious choice for play. As for the figurines I feel there approach could have been better perhaps using the 'trophies' as just that, assist trophies (on a smaller scale than they are currently) but I do like the idea of your amiibo character being YOUR Link or YOUR Samus, keeping stats when you change games or locations.
@Mahe You know? I actually really doubt thats the reason. In my neckbof the woods and demigraphic no one has heard about Wii U and when they do they love iit. They find the game pad to be a fun and innovative inclusion.
I played about 3-4 rounds of MP9 across a good enough gap to be consodered a fair chance. It was a shame. The title had great mini games but the car thing.... the games purpose to make it possible for a 3 yr old to beat a grown adult through absolute luck based gameplay and you know what? Ive heard nothing but great from children under 12 but for me? Im done... island tour sucked hard as well
I disagree so strongly with this article. In yhe ways of game sequels and if you like mario games thisbis tue NSMBU of kirby. An AWESOME follow up. The author feels its novelties aremt something new? I think cod's new tweeks arent new butbthat doesnt make it bad game as is being implied. It is more of the same but ifbwere being honest this is one of two kirby games to actually play out this way in the last 3 generations
I just feel vindicated at all the snobs who said PS4 is going to obliterate everything! Yes it is doing better but 6,000 units was once called abysmal for Wii U sales so now it's my turn to call it abysmal for PS4 sales. "Oh it's being outsold by last gen!" Poppy cock
@Darknyht This is where I stand as well. It's not a bad formula but if people rant and rave that Mario needs to stop because it's too repetitive, well at least each game had different gameplay and mechanics. It's just the same process over and over with a different costume. It's not bad by any means but just getting increasingly stale.
I have to give it to Mr. Whitehead, I really find his reviews to be 3 and 1/2 steps more professional than many of the others on here. I hope the others can emulate his skill in writing or he will do more reviews for us!
The only real question I want to know is what Nintendo's piss poor pathetic excuse for not having downloadable DLC race tracks is. Inconvenient and unfair? No... if they don't appear it's just plain simple laziness... bar none.
Another thought, Wonderful 101 did a wonderful job I feel of representing most of the corners of the Earth with the primary individuals representing the following countries: USA, USA, France, Romania, Russia, Japan and India. It is notable that there is no Africa nor South America there instead opting for two United States denizens.
@smashbrolink I actually have no idea what other publisher site/programs do. I try not to compare/contrast when directing comments at a particular subject or individual. I assume they do though! Especially with the sheer number of titles hitting the shelves. Same as iPhone and Android games.

Re: Talking Point: Keeping It Simple Helped Nintendo Triumph At E3
@midnafanboy like you said before... hype. It's true. I have NO desire to play assassin's creed ... any of them. Or Far Cry. Both are the same mediocre games that came out 10 years ago. ANyone here remember when farcry was a joke?
Re: Awesome New Hyrule Warriors Trailers Show Link Rocking the Fire Rod and Some Serious Swordplay
Anyone else notice at 1:00 when the ad for the game comes up there is a new blue headed girl on the right side? Any ideas who it might be?
Re: Talking Point: Keeping It Simple Helped Nintendo Triumph At E3
Re: Talking Point: Keeping It Simple Helped Nintendo Triumph At E3
Re: Talking Point: Keeping It Simple Helped Nintendo Triumph At E3
Re: Talking Point: Keeping It Simple Helped Nintendo Triumph At E3
@midnafanboy Thank you for pointing that out... Assasin's creed 4 took the most social media hype as graphs showed and I don't get why. "Oh my gosh look! We get to do THE EXACT SAME THING VERBATIM!!!" It's just beyond me why everyone's so excited about that game. As for Far Cry 4 exact same situation... I remember when far cry was that game series that just kept coming out but everyone wanted it to die, then 3 comes out and "OHMIGOSH! I LOOOOOVE THIS GAME AND ALWAYS HAVE!" I don't get it :/
Anyone who likes those games, awesome, I really don't care but personally I just don't get why it influences the masses so much.
Re: Mercedes DLC Confirmed for Mario Kart 8 in the West
The dumbest decision Nintendo could ever make with Mario Kart 8 is not including additional tracks as DLC. The game already has just as many courses as every other rendition of Mario Kart (excluding super circuit but those are far easier to make) so at this point, anyone against DLC can shove it right back down their throat. You got what you paid for now the rest of us who want more can get it. I'd be content with remakes of courses from previous titles. Banshee boardwalk!
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Successfully Wooed Some Wii U Doubters at E3
Why does everyone say Zelda, Starfox and Metroid are rehashes but COD, Assassin's Creed and halo aren't? I'm REALLY confused by that one.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Successfully Wooed Some Wii U Doubters at E3
Re: E3 2014: Amiibo Figures Will Have A Price Tag Comparable To Skylanders And Disney Infinity Toys
@SleepyCrossing I could see these being morphed into a future animal crossing title really well! Your villagers stats in brawl could affect a plethora of decisions in Animal Crossing. An update to new leaf would be really neat just as gaining bells by winning fights. Heck, that'd be AWESOME!
Re: E3 2014: Amiibo Figures Will Have A Price Tag Comparable To Skylanders And Disney Infinity Toys
Re: Wii Owners Are Upgrading To PlayStation 4, Claims Sony
@sinalefa Yeah... ww that sucks. I didn't know about that. And personally I would rather that over Bayonetta...
Re: Persona Q Gives 3DS a Boost in Japan, Wii U Takes Second Spot
@Mahe You know? I actually really doubt thats the reason. In my neckbof the woods and demigraphic no one has heard about Wii U and when they do they love iit. They find the game pad to be a fun and innovative inclusion.
Re: E3 2014: Mario Party 10 Subtly Announced for Wii U, Amiibo-Compatible
I played about 3-4 rounds of MP9 across a good enough gap to be consodered a fair chance. It was a shame. The title had great mini games but the car thing.... the games purpose to make it possible for a 3 yr old to beat a grown adult through absolute luck based gameplay and you know what? Ive heard nothing but great from children under 12 but for me? Im done... island tour sucked hard as well
Re: Feature: Our Top 10 Wii U eShop Games - Summer 2014
@HappyHappyist hereI agree. NES remix 2 was pretty cool bit the forst was an utter waste of time.
Re: Review: Kirby: Triple Deluxe (3DS)
I disagree so strongly with this article. In yhe ways of game sequels and if you like mario games thisbis tue NSMBU of kirby. An AWESOME follow up. The author feels its novelties aremt something new? I think cod's new tweeks arent new butbthat doesnt make it bad game as is being implied. It is more of the same but ifbwere being honest this is one of two kirby games to actually play out this way in the last 3 generations
Re: Mario Kart 8 and the Wii U Take Top Spots in Japanese Charts
I just feel vindicated at all the snobs who said PS4 is going to obliterate everything! Yes it is doing better but 6,000 units was once called abysmal for Wii U sales so now it's my turn to call it abysmal for PS4 sales. "Oh it's being outsold by last gen!" Poppy cock
Re: Review: LEGO The Hobbit (Wii U)
@Darknyht This is where I stand as well. It's not a bad formula but if people rant and rave that Mario needs to stop because it's too repetitive, well at least each game had different gameplay and mechanics. It's just the same process over and over with a different costume. It's not bad by any means but just getting increasingly stale.
I have to give it to Mr. Whitehead, I really find his reviews to be 3 and 1/2 steps more professional than many of the others on here. I hope the others can emulate his skill in writing or he will do more reviews for us!
Re: Review: Ittle Dew (Wii U eShop)
Im still not enthralled and I feel any game with system haulting errors needs to be dropped more than one point
Re: Interview: Mario Kart 8 Director, Kosuke Yabuki, On Key Features of the Wii U's Blockbuster Release
The only real question I want to know is what Nintendo's piss poor pathetic excuse for not having downloadable DLC race tracks is. Inconvenient and unfair? No... if they don't appear it's just plain simple laziness... bar none.
Re: Reaction: Mario Kart 8 Accused Of Poor Sales Potential, Ruining Battle Mode And Racism
Re: Miiverse Update Imposes Restrictions on Posting Comments
@Linkuini HAHAHA!!!
Re: Download Developer Hits a "Brick Wall" When Trying to Reach Nintendo Indie Executive for Interview
@smashbrolink I actually have no idea what other publisher site/programs do. I try not to compare/contrast when directing comments at a particular subject or individual. I assume they do though! Especially with the sheer number of titles hitting the shelves. Same as iPhone and Android games.
