Re: Soapbox: Catching Legendary Pokémon The Old-Fashioned Way Was So Much Better

Getting a bunch of free AOL floppy disks was nice since I did not have to buy them. Just put some tape to make read-write able and I was good to go. Always grabbed a few from the displays. When they changed to CDs, I was disappointed but they became good Frisbees instead.

Crystal is still my favorite of the pokemon games because it felt like getting two games for the price of one. You’d go through Johto, do elite four and then…wait a minute…do the kanto gyms and see what to original peeps are up to. And, then elite 4 again ending the game with meeting Red and his level 70 pikachu. wish the safari zone in kanto was available as well but limitations keep that from happening. The crazy part was that pokemon stadium was able to store pokemon even after resetting you record so my friends and I had the starters along with item storage so that we could reset the save move the pokemon into the new save along with a pack of master balls due to the missing no trick LOL. Fun times

F-Zero, Xtreme-G and Xtreme-G 2 were my to go on the N64 back then. Didn’t even know that Wipeout 64 existed until way after the system’s death. Crazy thing is that Acclaim had codes so that your bike in Xtreme-G would be switched out with one of the Wipeout 64 vehicles, and they handled the same as in Wipeout as well.

Crazy fun times back then.

As for making fansites back in the day? I had made a 3rd Strike flash page for a school project in college LOL before that, it was making static pages in fortunecity, geocities and tripod. I forget the other ad-fueled free services, but I probably used them as well back in the day.

Fun times all around.

As for F-Zero GX? It’s a great game but there was something missing in the formula, but I love the soundtrack. AX was not in my area as it came out when arcades where almost extinct in the US and would only be found in the large metropolitan centers which I did not live in. I do miss quarter arcades but console is bulky and i have no room.

Re: Review: Sonic Origins Plus - Not Bad, But Sonic Still Deserves Better

@MirrorFate2 That is right. I would still be nice to have it for this collection since not many people would would have bought the Genesis collection.

Not like Sega isn’t good a re-bundling their games every console generation.

At the end of the day, what I would like to see is the Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast. The soundtrack and specials stages make it the definitive version of the game for me.

Funny enough, I never really used it to spawn pokemon but more for master ball and money cheats.

Cheating itself? When playing the Genesis with a game genie, some games actually became fun when cheating because they were impossibly hard (Atomic Robokid). Or stopping time to fully explore a level without time running out.

Cheating in single player video games can break a gaming experience, but if done right, can add a whole new level fun.

Every time I play the original Doom games (except doom 3), it IDDQD (god mode) and IDKFA (all items) on the keyboard because I play Doom for the violent mayhem. That and the camera makes me dizzy after a while of running around trying to solve puzzles.

Or, I’ll beat a game and the cheat the second time around because it will feel like I’m playing a new game plus.

Mind you, I said single player games. Cheating in multiplayer or bringing out your ‘roided shinny pokemon with the best personality, moves and impossibly high stats to a competition is going to ruin it for everyone.

It’s part of the reason I no longer play FPS in an online setting. It’s fun at the lower levels but once the ai adjust the matcaking criteria based on your record, that is when the experience goes downhill for me.
