Re: Talking Point: EA and Bethesda Highlight Nintendo Switch as a Portable Powerhouse at E3

crimsoncavalier

@aaronsullivan "Even with all that, I don't expect most big "AAA" third party games to land on Switch in any form, but I do expect a decent number of attempts to bring franchises over and capitalize on Switch. I was simply suggesting that if third parties want to look at Switch as a portable machine for their games, that's fine. If they bring them over in somewhat hobbled form that's actually great for the platform. Not predicting they will."

And I think that's the problem. I disagree that bringing in a hobbled form of a game is great for the platform. Why would anyone buy a system with hobbled versions of games?

Nintendo making Nintendo games for a Nintendo machine will not save the brand.

People refuse to accept the reality that Nintendo needs third party games—good third party games—to remain in business. Even if we assume that Nintendo games alone could keep the company afloat, they don't have the resources to develop enough games to maintain a steady stream of software releases.

Just Dance and Rabbids and lesser versions of games are just going end up being a repeat of what has been happening. If companies want to know how to be successful on the Nintendo platforms, just make good games. That's all gamers want.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Ubisoft's Nintendo Switch Reveals at E3 2017?

crimsoncavalier

@PixelViking64 ZombiU was decent. And I'll admit, both ZombiU and Red Steel were genuine attempts by Ubisoft to do something unique on the respective consoles. But those were their only offerings.

I don't like Assassin's Creed, and I wouldn't play it, to be honest, but that doesn't mean the game shouldn't be on the system. What I'm getting at is when we see that they put less effort on the Nintendo console, the consumer will react to that by not purchasing your product.

Like Watchdogs. They can't say "Our games don't sell well," if they give us worse versions of games, or games that no body wants. Let's be serious, Rabbids + Mario is not going to sell well.

Re: Monster Hunter: World Confirmed for Rival Platforms, is Skipping Nintendo Switch

crimsoncavalier

@PlywoodStick True, but the world is bigger than just Japan. Nintendo's biggest market is North America, the US in particular. Portability doesn't mean as much to that market as it does in Japan.

Honestly, if we look at the Switch sans BotW, the Switch would have tanked.

Doesn't matter if the game appeals or doesn't, the fact of the matter is hardware needs software, and the Switch is getting skipped, mere months after release.

Re: Talking Point: EA and Bethesda Highlight Nintendo Switch as a Portable Powerhouse at E3

@aaronsullivan But they won't. Don't you see that? It's already happening. Third parties AREN'T bringing their best games to Switch. I'm tired of spending my hard-earned money on Nintendo consoles for them to be considered "supplemental" ... oh, the Wii was a great "companion" console to either the 360 or the PS3. Everyone was either Wii60 or PSWii.

Oh the Wii U is the perfect console if you want your Nintendo fix in between playing real games on PS4 or XBO.

The Switch? It's perfect to get in those "on-the-go" gaming sessions when you can't play the real game on the PS4 or the XBO.

It's the same story we've heard for over a decade now.

Re: Monster Hunter: World Confirmed for Rival Platforms, is Skipping Nintendo Switch

crimsoncavalier

Who cares if you people consider this a "true" Monster Hunter game or not? The only thing that matters is that it's coming for EVERYTHING but Switch. This was always going to be the danger with having a weak console, and we're seeing it again and again and again.

If this had been announced for Switch as well, people would be thrilled. This sort of attitude, to say "It doesn't look good," just because it's skipping your console, it isn't helping.

Re: Poll: Would You Like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. DLC to Expand for a Whole Generation?

crimsoncavalier

The MK8 DLC has been fantastic. The prices are justifiable too, because you're getting pretty much half a game (16 new tracks out, new characters and new vehicles).

The Smash DLC has been a lot ... less good. I admit it is partially because I don't think Smash is as good a game as MK (Mario Kart always > Smash), but also because ... so what? I don't care if a Mii character can dress like Sonic or Mega Man. New fighters are all well and good, but again, so what? Why not new stages?

All that being said, I like the idea behind it, but I'd rather them start on a new game, new idea, new IP. But if I had to pick one or the other, it would have to be the MK8 DLC. I couldn't care less about the Smash DLC, and it's also overpriced.

Re: Download Card Prompts Speculation Over DLC Quests in Xenoblade Chronicles X

crimsoncavalier

I don't mind DLC. If it's extra crap like costumes or some sort of stupid weapon that isn't necessary to enjoy the game or to succeed in it, that's fine. For people that want to collect, say, a Shulk costume or a Dunban style something-or-other, that's cool. But if the DLC is something crucial to the game, then I'm against it.

That's the problem with Activision and CoD. You can't play the game anymore if you don't have the DLC: the new maps and stuff. DLC like what Oblivion and Skyrim did ... that's ok. It's optional. It adds new quests and new items, and if you don't want them, then your game is just as fun and playable without them.

Re: Parent Trap: amiibo Packs a Hidden Family Payload

crimsoncavalier

I'm buying them simply for the collectible aspect. Nintendo stuff always ends up being worth a lot in the long run. However, as part of a game, they not only do not interest me in the slightest, but don't seem to have a real point. I probably will never unwrap mine.

Re: Soapbox: Sonic, It's Time to Talk

crimsoncavalier

I always liked Sonic, back in the 90s. But these new games are awful. I also agree that they need to take some time off, but I think they need to take a page out of Nintendo's book and release a "New" Sonic the Hedgehog side-scrolling platforming adventure. Just bring it back to classic Sonic, make it quality, and get the old fan base back in it. Not just the ones that have stuck with Sonic through the awful games, but bring in the people who have abandoned ship, like myself.

As an example, I hate 3D Mario games. Didn't like Mario 64, Sunshine, didn't really care for Galaxy (though it was better, IMO, than Sunshine), but I eat up 2D Mario games. New Super Mario Bros was, to me, one of the best things Nintendo did with Mario. I'm a fan of all of the NSMB games. If SEGA can't figure out what they're doing with Sonic, then go back to basics. Heck, let Nintendo get a crack at the game, if they're not willing to do it themselves.

Re: The Nintendo Wii U Is Better Value For Money Than Xbox One Or PS4, Says Reggie

crimsoncavalier

In terms of gaming, the Wii U has the better software at the moment. In terms of mass appeal, well, that's where Nintendo are struggling. They need to get the word out better than what they've done. Why they didn't advertise the heck out of Bayonetta is beyond me. Bayonetta 2 is the best game of the year, on any console, and it barely got a mention from Nintendo, other than that weird Playboy team-up ...

Nintendo has a hidden gem in the Wii U, but it needs to come out of hiding.

Re: Preview: Having a Brawl With Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

crimsoncavalier

@SockoMario I hope this game does so well and that it's fantastic for everyone out there, but to be honest, I'm not looking forward to this game at all. I doubt I'll buy it. I wish I had not gotten the 3DS version, or else I may be a little more excited about this one. I've played the 3DS version twice. Haven't touched it since. Huge mistake.

Re: Watch Dogs Wii U Release Dates Confirmed

crimsoncavalier

Ubisoft has a gameplan, and it all revolves around finally stopping Nintendo support, once and for all. They're releasing the game months after the other versions; it's a port, which is probably done poorly; it is coming at a very busy game release time, probably coinciding with Smash Bros.. All of those factors are going to guarantee that this game is a commercial failure.

Don't think they don't know this. They KNOW what they're doing. They're a huge company. SOMEONE that works there has to have thought. "The release date for a delayed port of a mediocre game should NOT be during a time where Nintendo may even possibly consider releasing one of their biggest IPs."

So, they're going to use this game's poor sales as some sort of "proof", cancel all future Wii U releases, and that'll be that. No more AC, no more Splinter Cell, etc.

That said, I may get this game anyways. It looked interesting, and I own neither an XBO nor a PS4.
