@aaronsullivan "Even with all that, I don't expect most big "AAA" third party games to land on Switch in any form, but I do expect a decent number of attempts to bring franchises over and capitalize on Switch. I was simply suggesting that if third parties want to look at Switch as a portable machine for their games, that's fine. If they bring them over in somewhat hobbled form that's actually great for the platform. Not predicting they will."
And I think that's the problem. I disagree that bringing in a hobbled form of a game is great for the platform. Why would anyone buy a system with hobbled versions of games?
Nintendo making Nintendo games for a Nintendo machine will not save the brand.
People refuse to accept the reality that Nintendo needs third party games—good third party games—to remain in business. Even if we assume that Nintendo games alone could keep the company afloat, they don't have the resources to develop enough games to maintain a steady stream of software releases.
Just Dance and Rabbids and lesser versions of games are just going end up being a repeat of what has been happening. If companies want to know how to be successful on the Nintendo platforms, just make good games. That's all gamers want.
@PixelViking64 ZombiU was decent. And I'll admit, both ZombiU and Red Steel were genuine attempts by Ubisoft to do something unique on the respective consoles. But those were their only offerings.
I don't like Assassin's Creed, and I wouldn't play it, to be honest, but that doesn't mean the game shouldn't be on the system. What I'm getting at is when we see that they put less effort on the Nintendo console, the consumer will react to that by not purchasing your product.
Like Watchdogs. They can't say "Our games don't sell well," if they give us worse versions of games, or games that no body wants. Let's be serious, Rabbids + Mario is not going to sell well.
@PlywoodStick True, but the world is bigger than just Japan. Nintendo's biggest market is North America, the US in particular. Portability doesn't mean as much to that market as it does in Japan.
Honestly, if we look at the Switch sans BotW, the Switch would have tanked.
Doesn't matter if the game appeals or doesn't, the fact of the matter is hardware needs software, and the Switch is getting skipped, mere months after release.
@aaronsullivan But they won't. Don't you see that? It's already happening. Third parties AREN'T bringing their best games to Switch. I'm tired of spending my hard-earned money on Nintendo consoles for them to be considered "supplemental" ... oh, the Wii was a great "companion" console to either the 360 or the PS3. Everyone was either Wii60 or PSWii.
Oh the Wii U is the perfect console if you want your Nintendo fix in between playing real games on PS4 or XBO.
The Switch? It's perfect to get in those "on-the-go" gaming sessions when you can't play the real game on the PS4 or the XBO.
It's the same story we've heard for over a decade now.
@Corgi559 I didn't get a Switch, and this is the reason why, and now I'm glad I held off. I hate to say it, because I'm a huge Nintendo fan, but the Switch is going to flop just as hard as the Wii U.
Who cares if you people consider this a "true" Monster Hunter game or not? The only thing that matters is that it's coming for EVERYTHING but Switch. This was always going to be the danger with having a weak console, and we're seeing it again and again and again.
If this had been announced for Switch as well, people would be thrilled. This sort of attitude, to say "It doesn't look good," just because it's skipping your console, it isn't helping.
The MK8 DLC has been fantastic. The prices are justifiable too, because you're getting pretty much half a game (16 new tracks out, new characters and new vehicles).
The Smash DLC has been a lot ... less good. I admit it is partially because I don't think Smash is as good a game as MK (Mario Kart always > Smash), but also because ... so what? I don't care if a Mii character can dress like Sonic or Mega Man. New fighters are all well and good, but again, so what? Why not new stages?
All that being said, I like the idea behind it, but I'd rather them start on a new game, new idea, new IP. But if I had to pick one or the other, it would have to be the MK8 DLC. I couldn't care less about the Smash DLC, and it's also overpriced.
I don't mind DLC. If it's extra crap like costumes or some sort of stupid weapon that isn't necessary to enjoy the game or to succeed in it, that's fine. For people that want to collect, say, a Shulk costume or a Dunban style something-or-other, that's cool. But if the DLC is something crucial to the game, then I'm against it.
That's the problem with Activision and CoD. You can't play the game anymore if you don't have the DLC: the new maps and stuff. DLC like what Oblivion and Skyrim did ... that's ok. It's optional. It adds new quests and new items, and if you don't want them, then your game is just as fun and playable without them.
If Nintendo go with a unified system (which after a few days of thinking about, I find unlikely), I will go away from Nintendo forever. And that will be a shame. A "handheld/console" will not be powerful enough to house any of the latest/greatest games. I do NOT think it's a good idea. If they do this, it will be a risk they will regret.
I didn't forget those games. I just haven't played them. I've only played DE which is why I can only speak for that game. It used the map perfectly though.
The only game that has used the Gamepad right — that I own — is Deus Ex. That game uses the Gamepad exactly how it was meant. I hope that Zelda uses it in a similar manner. But I also hope there are options. I would rather not play with the Gamepad if I don't have to.
A sequel to the best game of 2014, maybe of the last 2 years? Yes please. It doesn't have to follow that story line anymore. As long as the gameplay stays the same.
What a joke from a joke company. They can keep their trash. To think they are arrogant enough to say "we'll hold on to this little nugget until more people get a Wii U ..." as if even if the Wii U had 100 million units sold, anyone would buy this trash.
I'm buying them simply for the collectible aspect. Nintendo stuff always ends up being worth a lot in the long run. However, as part of a game, they not only do not interest me in the slightest, but don't seem to have a real point. I probably will never unwrap mine.
I always liked Sonic, back in the 90s. But these new games are awful. I also agree that they need to take some time off, but I think they need to take a page out of Nintendo's book and release a "New" Sonic the Hedgehog side-scrolling platforming adventure. Just bring it back to classic Sonic, make it quality, and get the old fan base back in it. Not just the ones that have stuck with Sonic through the awful games, but bring in the people who have abandoned ship, like myself.
As an example, I hate 3D Mario games. Didn't like Mario 64, Sunshine, didn't really care for Galaxy (though it was better, IMO, than Sunshine), but I eat up 2D Mario games. New Super Mario Bros was, to me, one of the best things Nintendo did with Mario. I'm a fan of all of the NSMB games. If SEGA can't figure out what they're doing with Sonic, then go back to basics. Heck, let Nintendo get a crack at the game, if they're not willing to do it themselves.
I definitely feel certain ways about people who pick certain characters. I'm anti Wario, for example, and I'm usually anti Mii. Their voices are so annoying!
I agree that the collectible aspect of the figurines is more appealing than any perceived gameplay functionality. Maybe in time they'll actually be something to get for games, but for now, I have mine as collectibles.
Exactly. A review is more than a number or a letter. Plenty of games have gotten good reviews that don't appeal to me. READING the review lets me know if the game is good or not, the score just tells me HOW good.
In terms of gaming, the Wii U has the better software at the moment. In terms of mass appeal, well, that's where Nintendo are struggling. They need to get the word out better than what they've done. Why they didn't advertise the heck out of Bayonetta is beyond me. Bayonetta 2 is the best game of the year, on any console, and it barely got a mention from Nintendo, other than that weird Playboy team-up ...
Nintendo has a hidden gem in the Wii U, but it needs to come out of hiding.
@SockoMario I hope this game does so well and that it's fantastic for everyone out there, but to be honest, I'm not looking forward to this game at all. I doubt I'll buy it. I wish I had not gotten the 3DS version, or else I may be a little more excited about this one. I've played the 3DS version twice. Haven't touched it since. Huge mistake.
This would be excellent. I can think of no better way to use the Pad than this sort of thing. But a real Civ game, not a watered-down console version like Civ Rev was ... ugh.
As far as Smash, the more I read about the Wii U version, the more disappointed I am that I got the 3DS version, because I very likely won't get both.
Ubisoft has a gameplan, and it all revolves around finally stopping Nintendo support, once and for all. They're releasing the game months after the other versions; it's a port, which is probably done poorly; it is coming at a very busy game release time, probably coinciding with Smash Bros.. All of those factors are going to guarantee that this game is a commercial failure.
Don't think they don't know this. They KNOW what they're doing. They're a huge company. SOMEONE that works there has to have thought. "The release date for a delayed port of a mediocre game should NOT be during a time where Nintendo may even possibly consider releasing one of their biggest IPs."
So, they're going to use this game's poor sales as some sort of "proof", cancel all future Wii U releases, and that'll be that. No more AC, no more Splinter Cell, etc.
That said, I may get this game anyways. It looked interesting, and I own neither an XBO nor a PS4.
@gage_wolf Well, Mario Kart Wii had a great online multiplayer system, and Brawl's was broken. That may have a huge impact on sales, for people who want to play their game online. That won't be an issue this time.

@PlywoodStick Sure. Sure it will. The combined PS4, XBO and PC sales will not surpass the Switch sales. Okay.

@PixelViking64 Poor sales? Maybe because while they release real games on other consoles, we get Rabbids. Maybe that's why they get bad sales.
