@antisumo You don't have to do the same thing over and over but if you're working on something and then have to start again you'll probably go back to where you left off. The repetitiveness is really trying different things to progress in one area, so some people will take a long time to work out the path forward and some will figure it out quickly.
@kingbk If you have an Xbox Series s/x there's really no point in waiting for the Switch version unless you have some specific reason. I can't think of a good reason to wait
I wanted a 3DS when it launched, then I wanted the 3DS XL then the New 3DS XL. It's taken a Super Nintendo model to convince me to part cash for this thing.
One thing I hated about magazines back when I used to read them in the 90's was that they were often late going on sale, which meant wasted trips to the shops looking for them. Now with the internet we can get alerted the second the issue goes on sale but there's no indication when this will go on sale! A blog post on the retro gamer site says this'll go on sale on the Thursday 7th September.
Looks like the cover is going to be a cheap matt cover rather than the slick glossy cover made from paper that had a nice rigidity to it.
If the Switch were just £30 more than I was willing to pay, then I'd probably just swallow the cost. However the games are more expensive than normal and that worries me.
Even then it's not just the price but the hope that the pound will return to its former strength and we'll see a price drop
I wish I was waiting for my Switch tomorrow but I can't justify the price of the games. Hopefully the pound gets it's value back and we have a more reasonably priced system.
I bought the Spiderman triology on Blu-ray when it came out, say 2007-ish. I saw the first one and didn't like it and a year or two ago I decided to watch Spidermand 2. Guess what? Didn't play, neither did the other two discs. I have DVDs from 97 that still play so it's not that and everything has been on a bedroom shelf.
I would have contacted Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for a replacement but it's seemingly impossible.
Did I miss the announcement about Tank Troopers? The game looked pretty cool on the Japanese direct but I haven't seen any announcement about it in the west
The biggest problem Nintendo has is Nintendo fans. Those of us who buy Nintendo consoles and handhelds don't buy third party games in enough numbers to justify making them. That's the bottom line. If you want third party games, you have to buy third party games on your Nintendo device.
Have a look at the wikipedia page for the best selling games on Wii, Wii U and 3DS, if you need proof. Other than a few titles like Just Dance third party games just don't sell well, which is why Just Dance gets multiple releases but EA doesn't port the latest Madden or FIFA
@LinkSword I can see why people would draw that conclusion from the Treehouse announcement but there's a possibility that the direct won't be about Warriors and that Nintendo were being a bit misleading here. I got the impression that Warriors was a long way off given that it's only down for 2017, which makes a direct now a bit strange. It'd be even stranger not to talk about the FE mobile title when that's weeks away from release.
I don't see any reason to suggest that the direct is about FE Warriors at all. If anything it'll be about the mobile game, which is supposedly out before April and we haven't heard anything about it yet.
Maybe we'll get a release date for SMR on Android.
@ElGrego The Switch is basically a handheld version of the Wii U, we've known this since the Switch trailer debuted. As it stands it's a very powerful handheld but it's still a handheld so it's never going to be at the cutting edge because the most advanced GPUs and CPUs have a high power consumption, and that would mean the battery would have to be huge or the battery life would be extremely short. A console that drew 150W would need a 100,000 mAh battery at 1.5v, which might weight 3kg itself.
Basically any idea that the Switch would be very powerful should have been put to rest as soon as we found out it was a handheld. Sadly people cause confusion when they say the switch is a "home" device or that it's a hybrid. It's not, it's a handheld that can be plugged into the TV
That's not to say it's a bad thing. The Wii U is plenty powerful and if this rumour is correct it means that we get an amazing handheld at a fair price. There is more to gaming than graphics, some people would rather have the portability of the switch than something more powerful that isn't portable
I think £199 is a fair price given what we've seen so far. £249 with a game and more storage seems a bit more reasonable too and after paying that much for a basic Wii U I don't want to skimp on storage again. It also matches up to what we could expect based on the US price
MyNintendo is great but they don't have anything for Wii U owners. Wii U owners have been badly let down by Nintendo and Nintendo really should do something to make up for it I feel.
I'd like to see a bit more generosity too. It's still early days but of the two launch games one (Wario Ware Touched!) has expired and quite a few people would have the second. Both are 3DS titles, and there are plenty of demos and free to play (or start) games on the 3DS. I think a lot of people assumed that WWT! would get replaced by another game and that hasn't happened but I'm hoping they either give us a game or two every year or perhaps one generous discount a year like they did with the 99p VC games.
There are some things that can help with Pokemon Go that you should do even without a battery pack:
Turn on battery saver Turn off GPS/Data if you're only collecting from Pokestops (until you get to them), Turn down screen brightness (I had my note4 on automatic, just found out that it could be dimmed even more if I deselected that) In Settings, at least on android, turn off high accuracy so that it doesn't use wifi and phone towers to improve accuracy.
I also bought a 16000mah pack from Anker and it works well. It also has QC2.0 for charging but I haven't used it enough to test it. Of course, it's not necessary to wait for it to empty completely, in fact shortens battery life if you do so.
What's cool is that the Anker, and presumably Aukey, have AA batteries inside. These are the new generation of rechargables made by Sanyo/Panasonic that don't lose charge, so you can charge them up and leave them in the drawer until needed. I use these batteries for everything now, including my Wii Fit board and Wii mote
Visit Nintendo.co.uk and then My.Nintendo.com weekly and log into eshop and Miiverse. You'll get 120 coins a week that way. In seven weeks you'll have enough points and it'll only take you five minutes each week.
If you can't wait that long you can earn extra points from Miitomo. You can get 35pts a day with the help of a friend, ideally two but if not you can still get 10pts a day.
Remember, the platinum coins start expiring at the end of the October and Picross will no longer be offered as a reward after the end of September. If you're planning on buying a 3DS in the next six months (before the end of March) you can get the code on the last day and then enter it when you get your 3DS
Hopefully they'll add some better rewards next month
I wish they wouldn't announce things and then delay them, it's so disappointing. I wouldn't care if these games came out in March if they hadn't already told us it'd be out this autumn, but they did and it's annoying.
I don't really care what 5 games would be available at launch, I think having 5 games available at launch is a terrible idea. I'd rather have one game a month for 5 months than 5 games on day one and nothing for six months. Another software drought would suggest that Nintendo have messed things up again and depress sales of both hardware and software. Nintendo need a strong launch but that doesn't mean putting all their eggs in one basket either.
It's far too early for me to judge this but 8 seems to high from what I've seen so far.
It's taken me a long while to get going, thanks to server problems, a complete lack of clues as to what I'm supposed to do and an app that froze constantly. A reinstallation fixed the latter and the other problems have been over come so I'm finally able to begin to evaluate the game but so far it seems pretty pointless, the main goal seems to be to hold as many gyms as possible for your team but the prospect of that isn't really enticing enough to get me playing. I'll carry on playing for a while just in case, but if that's all there is to the game I won't care enough to bother.
I recommend not getting a cheap android phone. My first android was a £70 ZTE and it was almost unusable. I don't know if I had a faulty model but even if the battery life wasn't abysmal it was still rubbish.
A year or two later I paid the same amount for a Samsung Galaxy S2 on ebay and it's far and away a better phone. It might have cost me £140 at the time I bought the ZTE but in the end it probably would have cost me less to buy a Galaxy S2 in the first place and would have been a far better experience.
Pokemon go is compatible with Galaxy S4's and newer. You can get a working S4 for £70. I'm sure you can get similar quality phones from other manufacturers for even less.
One thing to look out for is the memory size. I didn't think it mattered because I would store all my data on an SD card but the amount of memory effects how many apps you can install. If you own a basic Wii U you know what little space you can actually use because even though 8GB sounds like a lot most of that isn't actually available for storage.
If you're only getting a phone for Pokemon then perhaps this £60 phone is okay but I think spending a little more is far better especially when there's miitomo and the upcoming Nintendo apps.
Can't wait to play this but I need a 3DS first! Thankfully you have six months after you redeem the points so if I get a 3DS towards Christmas I'll be okay.
I do wonder what'll happen if the NX is released this year. I wonder if these games be transferable to the NX, assuming it's a hybrid system.
Should also point out that you can earn 335 coins a week, so it could take you a week to earn 1000 coins and then another three weeks to earn the next 1000.
@Daemonite I had one friend and it never suggested any friends for me until I sent requests to his friends. Tap your friends face in your friend list or one of their comments and then tap the friends tab to get a list of their friends. You can then send them friends requests via miitomo whether you are friends on twitter/FB or not.
While this is wrong, I blame Nintendo as much as the copycat. If you look at the number of stars the original people got and the number that the copycat got it's clear that they got far more stars than the original. If the levels are the same, wouldn't they be equal? Ideally yes, but because it's so hard to find popular new levels, they get propotionally fewer stars. The star ranking system is flawed because the most popular levels stay at the top for a very long time. What we need is for those levels to either disappear once they've been completed by the player, or a setting that filters by creation date. I want to see the most popular levels made this week, not the levels that have gotten the most stars this week because, guess what, it's the same stuff that was popular last week!
If we did things my way we'd have new levels on the chart every week. We could still see the levels that have received the most stars in total. I've only created one level because honestly I don't see the point in spending ten hours making a level that no one will see
Can't believe people are complaining about a free game. If the review is accurate you never have to pay and it seems like you don't have to wait too long for new turns. Are people that impatient they'd rather not play at all?
I don't have a 3DS but I'd certainly play this if I did. I've been playing Picross for years and still haven't finished so I'd be willing to play a puzzle a day or so. Apparently you can get unlimited energy for $5 too.
@outburst Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore are his two best films. It's like writing off Eddie Murphy because you saw Norbitt or Star Wars because you've only seen the prequel trilogy
They should remake games more often I think. We can go back and watch films from the 30's but it's hard to go back and play games from 20 years ago or older. Even when it's technically possible it's often not a great experience. Older games were designed to be played on CRT TV's and they don't look as good on HD monitors.
@Peach64 The Veronica Mars movie raised $5.7m and would have raised more had they not reached the goal so soon.
$70m seems like a ridiculous amount, though. They'd need to get 1m people to back $70, so if you look at it like that it doesn't seem so far-fetched given the cost of games.
Perhaps it'd be better to remake the games for a wider-audience and see if there's a demand for a sequel
@WiiLovePeace If you look at the end of the video you'll see his record lap of 11:23, so if he did 4 absolutely perfect laps and added that to his first lap time he'd get 56.95, almost a whole second faster so there's clearly room for improvement but as Sami says, it'd require an almost robotic level of performance.
I think two a generation would be the best compromise. We should get one at the launch of the Wii U and 3DS and one halfway through it's life. We'd probably have seen Zelda U last year and Link between worlds next year with a second console game two years later
So Ubisoft make an advert and Sainsbury's and Nintendo are to blame? This random bloke on twitter is an idiot. He probably works for the daily star though.
This isn't why Nintendo is interested in digital sales. They're interested because they can make a much bigger profit from digital than they ever could from physical. With a digital copy, they save the cost of producing and distributing each copy, and they get to keep the share that the retailer would usually get.
More importantly the fewer physical copies they sell the higher the price used copies will be, because there will be less supply but the same demand.
Just remember that not every Disney title was made by Capcom. I've always wanted to play Virgin's attempt at Aladdin and I'd love a remake of that but I don't think capcom would remake another companies game
@Reverandjames I thought you were exaggerating, after all cornwall is so close but the tip of cornwall is 3hrs from Taunton! That's further apart than London and Birmingham
@GiftedGimp Yes you have the choice of where to land but it's clear which way is forward but you don't have to chose it. Going slow isn't wrong, I agree but if someone gets to the "end" and stops playing they've missed the point. It's like winning the last 50cc race on Mario Kart and saying you've finished the game or rescuing Peach on NSMBU

Hang on, the Fraggle Rock theme is in this game? Which kids know that theme song?
Re: Eiji Aonuma Explains Why The Legend of Zelda Isn't a Yearly Franchise
I think two a generation would be the best compromise. We should get one at the launch of the Wii U and 3DS and one halfway through it's life. We'd probably have seen Zelda U last year and Link between worlds next year with a second console game two years later
Re: Just Dance 2014 UK Commercial Lands Ubisoft And Nintendo In Hot Water
So Ubisoft make an advert and Sainsbury's and Nintendo are to blame? This random bloke on twitter is an idiot. He probably works for the daily star though.
Re: Nintendo UK Launches Online Retail Store
@Yasume Learn what? Nintendo, I'm sure, is quite happy if people are willing to pay more than necessary to buy Nintendo products from them.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Three New Wii U Hardware Bundles for Europe
No mention of the Lego City Undercover bundle? That wasn't in the catalogue but it's up for pre-order on the new Nintendo site.
Re: Over 61% of Q2 Game Sales in the U.S. Were From Download Products
Re: Capcom Reiterates Stance On Further Disney Remastering
Just remember that not every Disney title was made by Capcom. I've always wanted to play Virgin's attempt at Aladdin and I'd love a remake of that but I don't think capcom would remake another companies game
Re: StreetPassUK Launches Tag-Finding Website
@Reverandjames I thought you were exaggerating, after all cornwall is so close but the tip of cornwall is 3hrs from Taunton! That's further apart than London and Birmingham
Re: Feature: A Weekend With Pikmin 3
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the similarities to that nameless 90's film. Not sure it was a reference but I thought it was cool.
Re: Feature: A Weekend With Pikmin 3
@GiftedGimp Yes you have the choice of where to land but it's clear which way is forward but you don't have to chose it. Going slow isn't wrong, I agree but if someone gets to the "end" and stops playing they've missed the point. It's like winning the last 50cc race on Mario Kart and saying you've finished the game or rescuing Peach on NSMBU
