Re: "One Of The Slowest Modern LCDs I've Ever Seen" - Digital Foundry's John Linneman On Switch 2's Display

chess227

played a friends for a bit. Could tell right away that the screen looks really washed out... like the colors don't pop at all. It could be because the screen is just not great or it could be because I've been playing on my switch OLED handheld a lot lately, so immediately it looked a lot worse. I have a feeling that Nintendo will be releasing an OLED switch 2 within 15 months. It may be $100 more, but I think that would be $100 well spent.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Banning Switch 2's Using MIG Cartridges

chess227

@SirLink I agree and I'm kind of shocked by the responses here. I dunno.... kind of seems like there should be a little more outrage when a company threatens to nuke your system just because you aren't using it the way they think you should. Fine if you don't want them on your servers, but threatening to nuke a system kind of seems like it's crossing a line and I'm kind of dumbfounded that people are seemingly...... okay with that?

Re: The Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania Team Wants Your Feedback

chess227

@BrianJL I DID TOO LOL... I was so pissed when i got this game and kept falling in the water. I went online to figure out how the eff you're supposed to fly without falling in the water and discovered they turned a fun, arcade-like game into a flight simulator. It was so freaking difficult to fly the monkey. I was so pissed because I wanted to share it with my kids that I bought a gamecube off ebay and a copy of Monkey Ball 2 just so we could play the way it's supposed to be played. They messed up so many mini games, but this one is by far the worst and most disappointing.

Re: GameStop Lists Spyro Reignited Trilogy For August Release On Switch, Then Takes Page Down

chess227

Considering how bad Activision messed up this physical release on the PS4 and Xbox One by requiring a huge HUGE chunk of 2 of the 3 games to be downloaded and not putting them on the disc and requiring a 19GB download to complete the games, I can only imagine how bad they would screw up a switch release.... Maybe a 4GB card and then make you download 63GB to your switch. Either way, I'm pretty sure it will require a huge download which pretty much negates a physical release any way. Hopefully they can reduce the size down enough so that the download isn't huge, but I'm pretty sure there will be a sizable download.

Why these companies don't just release these compilations as $20 individual games and put the entire game on a card is beyond me. Clearly the physical collectors have shown that they would be willing to pay that to have it all on a disc. I would have done that for the Mega Man Collections and Resident Evil Revelations but instead opted to get them on the PS4.

Re: Sorry North America, You’ll Also Have To Download Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster

chess227

I made the decision that for any games where they do this half physical, half download BS, I'm just going to buy it on my PS4. I ended up doing it with Resident Evil Revelations, I ended up doing it with the Mega Man collections and I ended up doing it with this game. After I saw the European version of this game was half download, I figured the US version would be as well, so I just purchased the PS4 version for literally 1/3 of the price of the switch version.

I love my switch and I love the portable aspect, but seriously... You're charging $50 freaking dollars for a game that is $15-$20 on another system.... Spend the extra few dollars it costs you in volume buying to put both games on a larger card. It's absolutely ridiculous not to do that. I don't even care if the game takes a graphical hit, but to ask me to pay 3 times as much for a game when you can't even put the whole thing on there..... That's just ridiculous.

Re: Nintendo Puts Limited Run Deal On Ice To Focus On Publishers With "Bigger Print Runs"

chess227

I like Limited Run Games and I like what they do, but Nintendo is right. Their model would be HORRIFIC for Nintendo games. PS4 and Vita don't have anywhere near the number of collectors that Nintendo does, so without question, their "limited runs" would be snatched up quickly, most likely by scalpers, and sold at insane amounts of money on eBay. Just look at the price of Breach & Clear and some of their other early release titles. Imagine if that were Blaster Master Remastered. I would welcome physical releases of those digital games, but the only way they could do it would be to produce WAY WAY WAY more than they ever have for any PS4 release and I'm not sure that would fit their model or that they are in a position as a company to do that. Heck, I'm concerned about their ability to handle the physical re-release of Night Trap. But best of luck to them. They are a great group of people and I appreciate the work they do.

Re: Here's Why Nintendo Switch Games Cost More Than Those For Other Consoles

chess227

Here's the thing. With things like amazons prime discount and best buy's gamers club, you don't even have to pay full retail for these games anymore. But, for every time my kids have put Mario Maker's disc on the hardwood floor after playing it, without putting it in the case and then "accidentally" sliding it across the floor, I'm happy to pay a premium for cards. They last longer and are much more durable. It's a fair trade off in my mind.

Now, I will say this.... Digital should ALWAYS be cheaper. Developers are saving money and should pass that on to consumers. Plus the fact they are getting a far inferior version of the game since they have no physical media, that alone should warrant a discount. I'm tired of developers justifying digital prices because they offer convenience.... Maybe so, but call me in 15 years when you wanna play that digital copy, but the game has been removed from the online store and isn't available to re-download. Digital is a huge risk for longevity, which is another reason it should be cheaper.

Re: Hyperkin's GameCube-Inspired ProCube Pad is Now Up for Pre-Order

chess227

Heck yes. Finally a pro controller that I can get behind. I stopped Playing Zelda Windwaker HD because I hate having the buttons BELOW the right analog stick. That's the worst design idea Nintendo has ever had and has made me loathe their controllers this generation. It literally made it impossible to play some games. No I can finally go back and play wind waker HD and just in time for TP. I've always said Nintendo should stick with their gamecube design and just improve on it. It was a great controller in a lot of ways... Definitely room for improvement, but VASTLY better than the pro controller they have now.

Re: Wii U Named as "The Top Selling Item on Target.com" In Black Friday Sales

chess227

Very good news indeed. It's a fantastic system and so much fun.... Too bad they will most likely be disappointed in the fact that those 2 games alone eat up more than half of the Wii U's hard drive space. I wish Nintendo wouldn't do pre-installed games on their systems if they are going to give them such small hard drives..... Another reason I will never go digital.

Re: Tomonobu Itagaki Explains Why the Pro Controller Trumps the GamePad in Devil's Third

chess227

@shani LOL sorry I misspoke. I didn't stop playing Wii U games all together, just Windwaker on the Wii U since I really didn't like the controller options. I still play games on there, including Splatoon, which again, has the same problem, because it is very difficult to press the X button to jump when you have to move down off the control stick on the right side. LOL Maybe I'm just a a controller snob, but it really is lacking for me on the Wii U. I also hate the Xbox One controller when compared to the Xbox 360 controller and that is the main reason I switched from an Xbox 360 this time to a PS4. I am definitely going to pick up one of the Hori gamepads when they come out and already have one preordered at Amazon. I just wish Nintendo would have made their gamecube adapter function with more games so that it could replace the pro controller. The good thing about this is that I have been able to enjoy some amazing gamecube games I missed when i completely skipped that generation of gaming on Nintendo because i was on a Playstation then. Hands down one of the best controllers they ever made.

Re: Tomonobu Itagaki Explains Why the Pro Controller Trumps the GamePad in Devil's Third

chess227

@gatorboi352 The Pro Controller is AWEFUL... So is the tablet controller, but the Pro Controller is a horrible horrible design. I got tired of playing Windwaker with the tablet because it just felt so huge in my hand after a while and the white screen glowing in my face in a dark room just got annoying, so I tried to switch to the pro controller and it was a horrible experience. Having the analog stick above the buttons on the right is the worst design choice I have ever seen. Your thumb doesn't naturally slide to the buttons. It's the main reason I stopped playing Wii U games and purchased a gamecube and purchased wind waker for that system. The gamecube controller is hands down the best controller they have ever made and I have had a blast playing games on it. Nintendo really should just keep that controller design, make a few minor adjustments and call that their pro controller. I absolutely hate the controller options they have for the Wii U

Re: Analogue Nt Starts Shipping To Buyers, Pitched As "The Leica Of Home Consoles"

chess227

...And that $500 doesn't even include the HDMI HD output "upgrade." That's gonna run you an additional $79. I guess considering a Framemeister is around $300, that's not a HORRIBLE price, but I feel like retro gamers would rather have the full retro experience with an original console and would really find it hard to justify the price of this, even though it is a beautiful system for sure.

Re: Splatoon Producer Inks Out Reasons For Lack Of Voice Chat And Staggered Content Roll-Out

chess227

Here's a thought... How about Nintendo let parents be parents and give them the option to disable voice chat on the Wii U totally if they want to. I have a young son.. I would totally disable online chat if he wanted to play this game... Me on the other hand, I have a brother who lives an hour away.. We would love to play this game together, but haven't purchased it because we also like to chat while we play games. Really annoying Nintendo tries to play the parent instead of giving people the option. Definitely turned me off to purchasing this game and reaffirms my belief that Nintendo is a complete failure at online experiences... Their games are still great, but their online experiences are horrible.

Re: Review: Mario Party 10 (Wii U)

chess227

God I hate nintendo so much. On one hand I love most of their games, but the fact they can't embrace online play just pisses me off. Will not be buying this game due to lack of online play. My brother and I would have had so much fun.... But alas we live an hour apart.

Re: Harmonix Explains Why Rock Band 4 Isn’t Coming to Wii U, But Doesn't Rule it Out

chess227

I think the problem with bringing it to the wii u is that the Wii U won't be around as long as the PS4 and Xbox One. If I had my choice, I would buy it on my PS4, mainly because i feel like Nintendo will come out with a new console, making this one obsolete long before the PS4 will. I just wish Nintendo would drop some money into 3rd parties and have them make some exclusive Wii U titles that people would clammer after. ..... And Bayonetta wasn't it.

Re: Video: Today's Teens Simply Cannot Handle The Insane Challenge Of Mega Man

chess227

This is what happens when you let today's "gamers" who are used to the A.D.D. gameplay of Call of Duty and silly app games play classic games that actually took thought, time, and skill to beat.

It's not necessarily a knock against them, but gamers who grew up on app games and post-playstation 1 are really used to a different type of gameplay.

"What... You mean I can't just keep running like I do in Temple Run? These things are going to kill me?"

Re: Nintendo Network Services Now Starting to "Operate Normally"

chess227

You know.... I love nintendo as much as the next person, but I am not willing to give them a pass on this. For them to set such lofty sales goals and then not be prepared for the traffic is pathetic. Since most people are already critical of nintendo's online system being so lackluster, it is disappointing that they just proved it is less than stellar. Heck, half of my friends didnt even know nintendo had online capabilities for online multiplayer games when I got my wii.... Goes to show they have a long way to go on promoting the online functionality of their system. I don't care that I couldn't log into eshop for a few days but it is a HORRIBLE way to welcome new users who may or may not have been apprehensive to begin with.

Re: Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of the 'New Gen' Environment for Wii U?

chess227

I actually skipped the GameCube and wii because I didn't love the direction nintendo was going plus my brother owned an xbox 360 and I got that to play online but like so many, I am very put off by the next gen systems. Microsoft lost me completely with their kinect required and drm even through they back peddled, but I will not ever buy a system that requires me to install games onto a hard drive... I have heard reports people with ps4 have installed 2 games and 2 downloaded games and they have 330gb left on their drive. Over the years of downloading games, that will shrink massively and I am the kind of person who likes to play multiple games at times and who wants to wait for that game to install on the hard drive and then if to need the room, you will have to uninstall the game which kind of sucks. I have kind of burned out on first person shooters online as well and you couple that with nintendos amazing first party games , I decided to purchase a wii u a few weeks ago when the new Mario bundle came out. Maybe I am an optimist, but I think people are going to get tired of gaming consoles dictating how they can enjoy their games. If nintendo beefed up their online system, it would really help expand their market. But for now, my next gen console is solely the wii u

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Ambitious Sales Targets Require Runaway Holiday Success

chess227

I may be an optimist but I ignored the wii and the GameCube and spent last generation on an xbox. I am not getting an xbox one due to privacy concerns and not getting a ps4 because I have never liked their online system. I think nintendo has a lot of shortcomings but to me it is the system I will be buying. It pushed me over the edge when I saw the new Mario/luigi bundle coming and with my son turning 5 next year, I think it will be a great system to bring him up on. I was 5 when I played the original NES for the first time and want him to enjoy the same games I did. To me, I think the lackluster launch of the ps4 and xbox one will help nintendo tremendously. I know a lot of people who are waiting to buy the next gen systems and for parents looking to buy a system this Christmas, the wii u does look nice with the new bundled software. It's also nice that so many games already released are already so cheap. I have faith in them but they have made a LOT of mistakes. The best thing that happened to them was having so many next gen titles delayed. Hopefully that will pay off
